Judas Priest – Angel of Retribution
The Metal God has returned to Judas Priest, and we can all be thankful of that!
I was beginning to lose interest in Judas Priest. I did not enjoy the Ripper Owens releases, so I was quite happy to see that Rob Halford returned to front JP.
Judas Priest Angel of Retribution seems to take off where Painkiller left off, and that is a great thing. Judas Priest shows no sign of slowing down with age.
This CD is full of excellent guitars aka Glen Tipton and KK Downing, and pounding double bass drums ala Scott Travis, and of course the excellent vocals of Rob Halford.
There are some great tracks on this CD. The heavy Judas Rising, the crunching guitars of Deal with the Devil, the wailing Halford on Revolution, the rocking Wheels of Fire. Hellrider sounds like it could be the cousin to Nightcrawler. Even the slower numbers on this CD, Angel and Worth Fighting For are very good. It is hard not to find something to love on this CD.
This is a very strong release from Judas Priest. If you haven’t picked this up, you need to get this today!! One of the best Metal CD’s to come along for a while!

Yikes….I am scared of that RhodeIsland. A Judas Priest concept album…..on Nostodamus. That sounds like something Maiden would do, not JP. I hope it turns out well. I read there is going to be a new Halford disc in 2007. I will be keeping my eye out for that one!
I really enjoyed the album except for ‘Lochness’. That song gets skipped everytime I play it. Is this album better than Halford’s RESURRECTION? No. Is it better than the 2 ‘Ripper’ Owens albums? Yes.
I think everyone will appreciate ANGEL OF RETRIBUTION if their new concept album based on Nostrodamus is a turd.
I wanted this album to be good because I sure didn’t like the two Ripper Owen’s albums. Yes, there were elements of Defenders, Painkiller and Sad wings of destiny here and there. However, it just sounded very forced to me. Overall I just thought it was an okay album and it should have been more. I found Halford’s solo releases more enjoyble. Here’s hoping the new album is better.
angel reminded me of some of the early stuff they did. the album seemed to cover a wide range of priest, from the roots to the present, showing they could revisit their past and use it as inspiration, while looking forward.
the next step after painkiller? i could believe that. overall, it does go down as one of their best albums ever, IMHO.
let me tell you what … i saw them on tour last year, and i could have died and gone to heaven. i can’t wait to see them on the road again – hopefully next year!
Yes, realy a great comeback album after RIPPER SHIT OWENS. I was very happy when RIPPER SHIT OWENS left the band. I realy think that this album is great, maybe i would give it a 8 out of 10. I can hardly wait for their next studio album.
Hi T-Bone,
I don’t disagree with you regarding Lochness. It is my least favorite track on the CD. I like the rest of them pretty well though. They could have added two more tracks and left Lochness off IMHO.
I can’t say I agree with your review, as I really do not like this album, and I have tried. Lochness is laughably bad. There are some good tunes here, but I was disappointed.
