Tarsha is new band led by former Adler’s Appetite singer Sheldon Tarsha.
Prophecies is a good dose of raw in your face Rock and Roll. Sheldon’s time in Guns and Roses must have influenced him well. I can hear some of the G N’R influence in his music, and this hard rock effort has a raw heavy sound that gets better with each listen. Sheldon Tarsha’s vocals are raw, throaty and very cool.
The first track Dirty, has had moderate success on internet radio. This is a heavy track that instantly contagious from the first listen.
Ten Stars Away goes in the complete opposite direction. It is an acoustic driven tune that is one my favorites on Prophecies.
I love the groove to My First Hit, however the chorus is a little too raw for me vocally. I still think this a descent song, and sounds good when played loud.
The guitar work on Skeletons is great. I’m not too sure about the mix of the harpsichord (at least I think that is what is) in the track. As a whole, it is a very cool sounding track.
Galilean Eyes slows the pace down just enough to keep Prophecies interesting. Something about this song and the following track, Let You Go has a Nine Inch Nails feel about it, at least to me.
Why Fight has a similar to sound to Dirty, and includes a guitar riff that sounds as if it was ripped from an 80’s hard rock track. It has a good beat, and I found myself headbanging to this one.
Cynical Christ has an infectious beat with a heavy guitar. This is one of those tracks that needs to grow on you. I could almost hear this track played in some alternative music clubs out there. It is one of those tracks that could go either way.
Apostle has some interesting lyrics, but is not one of my favorites on Prophecies.
Buried on the Inside on the other hand, is an upbeat rocker, with a drum beat that is contagious. This one sounds great loud.
I swear that I have heard the guitar riff on Modern-Era Exodus on the Batman Beyond animated series. It is an ok track, but not one of the best offerings on Prophecies.
Generation H is one of the lesser heavy sounding tracks on Prophecies. I like the guitar sound on this track a lot. This is an upbeat track with a nice beat, and a solid way to close out this disc.
Prophecies is a pretty good modern rock album that crosses between hard rock and alternative metal. It may take a couple of listens, but it has a pretty cool sound that doesn’t really mimic the work of any current artists. You can hear more of Prophecies at Tarsha’s myspace page and at CDBaby.com.

In doing a little bit of research on this flick, I found that it only did 37 million worldwide, which in Hollywood terms, means a flop.
The cast of the Covenant is a great looking bunch of girls and guys, but it basically a no name cast, so there was no star power to bring anyone in to the Theater.
I wont tell you too much about the story, other than this movie is about a Covenant of witches (or Warlocks) if you prefer. It is kind of like the Craft, and the Matrix, all rolled into one.
The ratings and reviews on this movie have been poor, but I honestly enjoyed this flick. The special effects were good, and the story was just solid enough to be likable. The horror elements are on the light side (this movie is PG-13), but this more about the story than being horrific.
The Covenant is brought to you by the producers of Underworld. If you enjoyed either of the Underworld flicks, you will probably like this on as well. It it certainly a movie that is worth a rental.
I have included the trailer below, in case you are interested.

Part Two of my Friday the 13th Creature Feature, was an episode of the Masters of Horror TV Show. This episode, called Pro-Life was directed by the legendary John Carpenter, and features actor Ron Perlman (Hellboy).
The gist of the story is this, a daughter of a Pro-Life family seeks help after being raped. The father and his family is hell bent on stopping the doctors from hurting her.
What they quickly find out is there is more than meets the eye with the pregnancy of this young girl.
Without telling you anymore, there is plenty of horror fans to love. Plenty of gore, intense drama and………… ah, but that would be telling. It is only an hour long, and another flick that is worthy of a rental. Check it Out!!
Check out the trailer below if you are interested.

Ozzy’s new single,”I Don’t Want to Stop” can now be heard on Ozzy.com. Move your crucifix over to the book case and give the new track a listen. It is pretty good!
Simply said, this is the state of hard rock music in the United States. Only the die hard rock fans know who this band is. It is a real shame considering the strength of some of their previous releases (Hellfire Club, and Mandrake).
For those of you that don’t know EDGUY, this is a German Power Metal band that began in 1992. Their style has matured over the years into a NWOBHM type of sound that 80’s rock fans are sure to love.
Lead singer Tobias Sammet has a powerful set of pipes, and has a vocal style similar to Bruce Dickenson of Iron Maiden. The band features a dual axe attack of Jens Ludwig on lead guitar, and Dirk Sauer on Rhythm Guitar. Tobias Exxel handles the Bass guitar, and Felix Bohnke is the skin basher.
Rocket Ride is the 8th studio disc for EDGUY, and is a damn good one at that.
This disc starts off with an 8 minute melodic monster Sacrifice. This song is full of great vocals, heavy guitars and harmonic keyboards.
The title track Rocket Ride, is a tremendous rocker that falls somewhere between Judas Priest and Accept in style. There is plenty of guitar noodling and pounding drums in this song. Great stuff!
Wasted Time is a very cool Iron Maiden style tune, with plenty of back up vocals for good measure. Tobias Sammet sounds a lot like Bruce Dickenson on this track.
Matrix should have been a hit for EDGUY. Check out the video below for this track.
Return to the Tribe feels a little too much like filler to me. It is a nice jam session, but not the best of songs.
The Asylum on the other hand is a superb cut off of Rocket Ride. The music and vocals are first-rate on this song.
Save Me is a hellaciously good ballad. This disc needed a break from the mid to high tempo rockers and Save Me comes at the perfect time to break it up a little bit. This is another song that screams hit.
Catch of the Century is a fun headbanger. It kind of reminds me of a heavy Pink Cream 69 song. It is very cool and the music is top notch!
Out of Vogue is an ok high speed rocker. I like the music on the track but the lyrics need a little bit of work.
Superheroes should have been another hit for EDGUY, but once again got shafted by U.S. Radio. Check out the video below for this song!
Trinidad has to be the closest thing to Pop Metal that EDGUY has ever tried. It is a very upbeat and happy sounding song. This is one that grows on you after a while.
You just have to love the title, Fucking With Fire (Hair Force One). This is another song that just rocks. This track is more hard rock than metal, but it very good.
The bonus track, Land Of The Miracle is nothing to get excited about. (How many bonus tracks are?)
Rocket Ride is another great hard rock/metal offering from 2006 that will hopefully find itself in a lot more people’s hands before it disappears into obscurity. If you are a fan of NWOBHM type of music, you need to check out EDGUY’s Rocket Ride. This disc will likely appeal to fans of bands such as Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Accept.
Don’t miss this!

BW&BK sources have confirmed that MIKE TRAMP’s WHITE LION will be part of this summer’s POISON/RATT North American tour. However, it will not be the original band, only Mike and some hired hands.
As previously reported, GREAT WHITE is “in talks” to join this tour. Furthermore, DOKKEN has been confirmed for selected shows.
A full itinerary is still being confirmed, but the trek starts June 13th at the Bi Lo Center in Greenville, SC, and wraps August 19th at the Coors Amphitheatre in Denver, CO.
Former Home To DEF LEPPARD, KISS, RUSH – Mercury Records Resurrected
According to Reuters/Billboard, Island Def Jam is reviving the legendary Mercury Records imprint in the United States, eight years after it was mothballed in the wake of a corporate merger.
The label continues to operate overseas, serving as the home for many Island Def Jam acts, such as BON JOVI, ELTON JOHN and LIONEL RICHIE.
The resurrected Mercury will be headed in New York by David Massey, a former executive at Sony Music, where he worked with the likes of SHAKIRA, OASIS, FRANZ FERDINAND and TRAVIS.
Mercury – which over the years has served as the U.S. home to such acts as JOHN MELLENCAMP, DEF LEPPARD, KISS, RUSH, ROD STEWART, CINDERELLA, FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS and TEARS FOR FEARS — ceased operating as a frontline label in North America in 1999 in the wake of Seagram Co.’s purchase of Mercury’s PolyGram parent. The deal led to the formation of Universal Music Group, which is now controlled by Vivendi Universal.
Mercury was founded in Chicago in 1945, and found success with such acts as SARAH VAUGHAN, DINAH WASHINGTON, THE PLATTERS and LOUIS ARMSTRONG.
Just how many releases come out this year under the Mercury banner remains to be seen, but the number figures to be a handful. Massey said the plan is to build the imprint slowly.
ADLER’S APPETITE: Previously Unreleased Song Posted Online
A previously unreleased song by ADLER’S APPETITE, featuring former GUNS N’ ROSES drummer Steven Adler doing “what he does best — kicking ass on the drums”, has been posted online at this location. The music for “Sadder Days” — which was recorded in April 2005 — was composed by the “wickedly talented” Keri Kelli (ALICE COOPER), who also engineered and produced the venture. The vocals and lyrics for “Sadder Days” were performed and written by Sheldon Tarsha, whose own band TARSHA is currently promoting its single “Dirty”. This exclusive recording also includes the bass talents of Robbie Crane (ex-RATT, VINCE NEIL).
This disc features the vocal talents of Tony Martin, the expert bass playing of former Whitesnake bassist, Neil Murray, guitarist Rolf Munkes, and ex-Silent Force drummer, Andre Hilgers.
I have always thought that Tony was one of Black Sabbath’s most under rated singers, so I could not resist checking out Raven Ride. I am glad I did. This is a pretty good melodic metal offering by Empire.
The title track, Raven Ride is one of the better tracks on the disc. This song has a DIO feel about it. Killer vocals and music to match. Breathe is a heavy but cool track in the vein of Black Sabbath.
Carbon Based Lifeform is a throw away track to me. I didn’t care for this one very much. Satanic Curses on the other hand sounds like Dio era Black Sabbath. This is a very good track.
Al Sirat – The Bridge To Paradise is a great follow up to Satanic Curses, and also carries that heavy Sabbath feel to it. Neil Murray’s heavy bass compliments Rolf Munkes guitar greatly, and Tony Martin‘s vocals are excellent here.
What Would I Do? is a heavy low to mid tempo keyboard driven number with more great vocals by Martin. This song is slowly growing on me.
Changing World is great except for this electronic drum beat that goes on through half of the track. I could live without that extra beat. It reminds me of something that Genesis has done in some of their songs.
Tony Martin growls as well as sings on Maximum. I didn’t like this track at first, but once I got over the growling, I found this song kind of catchy.
I will let the track, I Can’t Trust Myself do the talking for itself. This could have been a hit off of this record. Give it a listen below, and see what you think.
I Can’t Trust Myself
The Devil Speaks, The Sinner Cries closes this disc with a very doomy Sabbath style track. Martin’s vocals are great, but this track is a little too slow for me.
Empire is a pretty good listen from beginning to end. Tony Martin’s vocals shine more often than not, as does the music. Fans of Tony Martin’s previous work with Black Sabbath, Tyr and Headless Cross, will love this disc.

Former EXTREME/VAN HALEN frontman Gary Cherone has resurfaced with a new band, HURTSMILE.

Black Sabbath: The Dio Years hits the Billboard Chart
BLACK SABBATH – “Black Sabbath: The Dio Years” Sold 21,000 copies in its debut week to hit #54 on the Billboard charts.
Shelter is the third offering by the band Trixie. This band features the lead vocals, lead guitar, production and song writing skills of Ronnie Borchert. Judging from the sound of this disc, Ronnie Borchert had got some mad talent. This is a disc that fuses the sound of Def Leppard and Motley Crue, and has a production value that could easily meet the last few efforts by Def Leppard.
If you took the time out to check out Miss Crazy’s debut release you will already have a taste of Ronnie’s song writing and production skills. Both discs are a kick ass throw back to that 80’s hard rock sound, and well worth checking out!
Highlights on this disc include the opening track, Hell Yeah, Day and Night, Inside of Me, You That I’m Wanting, Lookin’ For Love and the cover of the Def Leppard tune, Wasted.
This is one of the better 80’s hard rock sounding discs that I have heard as of late. If you enjoy bands like Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Cinderella and Faster Pussycat, you ought to give Trixie’s Shelter a listen.
Trixie’s Shelter is a great CD worth discovering.

LIZZY BORDEN Shoot Cover For New Album; Enlist JACK FROST For New England Metal And Hardcore Festival
“Lizzy Borden has shot the cover of the as yet unnamed new recording, due out the end of summer.
Lizzy is working with special effects wizard and make-up artist Ralis Kahn (www.ralisfx.com). Although no details have been revealed, Ralis has designed the set and the look of the band based on the characters in the storyline of the new recording.
Famed ‘Metal’ photographer Alex Solca took well over 1,000 shots in a two-day marathon, involving extras as well as the band (Lizzy, Joey Scott, Marten Andersson and Ira Black). At the end of the two-day shoot the set was literally set a blaze!, with flames shooting 30 feet into the air! And all captured on film.
“Because a lot of music is going straight to itunes, we thought we would pay special attention to both the cover and the back cover and fill the inside of the CD booklet with tons of fun shots from this specialized photo shoot. As we all know, very soon there will no longer be an actual CD to have a cool booklet for. Everything will go straight from the studio to your ipod, so we thought we would really do this one up right!”, commented Lizzy.
Fifteen hours worth of video footage was also filmed during the two day shoot. Stay tuned to http://www.Lizzyborden.com for the ‘Making of’ as well as the cover to be posted soon.
In other news, Lizzy Borden has enlisted the ‘metal guitar’ services of Jack Frost (SEVEN WITCHES, ex-SAVATAGE). Jack is coming on board to play the New England Metal And Hardcore Festival (April 28th) with us as the second guitarist with Ira black. Jack is also one of the ‘special guest’ guitarists playing on the new record due out the end of summer.”
Eddie Trunk interviewed Stephen Pearcy on the Eddie Trunk show last night. Stephen was holding his cards very close to his chest, and would not leak any details about the pending RATT reunion, but did say further details would be breaking within the next week or so.
Also, Eddie debuted one of the new tracks off of the upcoming covers disc by Tesla, Real to Reel, the old Tempations track, Ball of Confusion. Anthrax has covered this tune before, but the Tesla version, was done very well. This has me excited over a covers disc for this first time ever. I found some interesting info online regarding this disc. See below!
Tesla’s Real to Reel CD to be Released June 5, 2007
Tesla’s new CD Real to Reel is a covers
CD that is gonna BLOW YOU AWAY!! There are 23 tracks in all so this will be
released as a “volume 1 & 2” but there will be a catch. If you ask me, the
marketing strategy that they are using is brilliant. Here’s the deal.
Volume 1 of Real to Reel will be available in stores on June 5 so make sure you
go and buy it. Tesla will be out on tour this summer…possibly late spring in
support of this CD and they will be performing what they are calling “Two Night
Stands”. Each city will have two back to back performances of Tesla, one night
electric…one night acoustic. Make SURE that you buy tickets to BOTH shows
because your ticket to the FIRST show is also buying you Real to Reel Vol.2!!
That’s right…..Real to Reel Vol.2 will be included in the price of your ticket
and will be handed out as you enter the show. Is that COOL or WHAT?? Now here’s
the kicker…..on the SECOND night of this adventure there will be a BONUS CD
handed out!! That’s right….your ticket for the SECOND night will include a
BONUS CD of acoustic material. These songs were taken from 5 Man Jam and
recorded in the studio so they won’t have the sound of the live audience behind
them. They will have favorites from 5 Man (Signs, Paradise) as well as selected
acoustic versions of songs from the 2005 Five Man Acoustic Jam Revisited Tour (Hang
Tough, etc.) Now, I must report that this is NOT an official press release so
this info is still subject to change but this announcement was made by Mr. Brian
Wheat himself during a radio interview with Rock 94 in Albuquerque, NM last
The track listing for Real to Reel is as follows:
Bad Reputation (Thin Lizzy)
Ball Of Confusion (Temptations)
Beer Drinkers, Hell Raisers (ZZ Top)
Bell Bottom Blues (Eric Clapton/Derek And The Dominoes)
Day Of The Eagle (Robin Trower)
Dear Mr. Fantasy (Traffic)
Do You (Feel Like We Do) (Peter Frampton)
Honky Tonk Woman (Rolling Stones)
I Want To Take You Higher (Sly & The Family Stone)
Is It My Body (Alice Cooper)
I’ve Got A Feeling (Beatles)
Make It Last (Montrose)
Not Fragile (Bachmann Turner Overdrive)
Rock Bottom (UFO)
Saturday Night Special (Lynyrd Skynyrd)
Seasons Of Wither (Aerosmith)
Shooting Star (Bad Company)
Stealin’ (Uriah Heep)
Street Fighting Man (Rolling Stones)
Thank You (Led Zeppelin)**FIRST SINGLE
Walk Away (James Gang)
War Pigs (Black Sabbath)

How does the sequel compare to the original? Just like most sequels, this one is not as good as the original. The dual guitars of Michael Wilton and Mike Stone don’t quite meet up to the great sound of the former dynamic duo of Wilton and Chris DeGarmo. They do sound very good, but maybe not quite as powerful or melodic as the original guitar tandem.
Once upon a time, Geoff Tate’s voice could reach notes that most rock singers could only dream about imitating. Watch the video below; if you aren’t blown away by his amazing vocals, you are probably reading the wrong website:
In 2006, and beyond Geoff Tate can still sing well, but those amazing high notes has moved out of his vocal ability. With that being said, the last few Queensryche releases have been mostly disappointing to me, so my approach to Mindcrime II was timid at best.
Amazingly, I would consider Mindcrime II is the best disc that the band put out since 1994’s Promised Land. Mindcrime II continues on with the story of Nikki, and the infamous Dr. X. It may take you a couple of times to absorb the story from the music, but I am betting you will want to listen to this a few times anyway.
Some of the highlights of this disc are I’m American.
One Foot in Hell is a very cool, heavy progressive number. Hostage is a dark and heavy track that seems to grow on me more with each listen. The Hands is one of those tracks that you will need to listen to over and over a few times. The guitar work is superb, and sounds pretty close to classic Queensryche.
The Chase, featuring the combined vocals of Geoff Tate and (Dr. X) Ronnie James Dio is one of the better Queensryche tracks I have heard in a while. Tate’s and Dio’s voices sound great together.
Fear City Slide has a killer bass groove, and is a very good listen.
Every time I listen to this disc, I hear something different, and tend to like the songs a little more each time. The first time I listened to this disc, I was disappointed, but my opinion has changed with time. This is one of those sleeper discs that needs to grow on you.
This may not be the stellar effort that Operation Mindcrime is, or the hit cranking machine of Empire, but is a solid listen, and certainly essential to every Queensryche fan.

“I wish to express my sympathy to Mark St. John’s family and friends. Though Mark was the guitarist I replaced, I respected his talent and contribution to Kiss. May he rest in peace.”

Great White Members Ask To Be Dismissed From Station Fire Civil Suits
According to ww2.wpri.com, Great White band members, whose pyrotechnics ignited a deadly fire at The Station nightclub are asking to be dismissed from lawsuits stemming from the blaze.
The band members say they weren’t involved in the decision to use pyrotechnics and had no role in setting them off the night of the 2003 fire.
The blaze at the West Warwick club killed 100 people and began when the band’s pyrotechnics ignited flammable soundproofing foam.
The band was sued in federal court by fire survivors and victims’ relatives.
Mark Kendall (guitar), David Filice (bass) and Eric Powers (drums) filed court papers yesterday seeking to be removed from the case. Lead singer Jack Russell is among the defendants but did not join in the request.
The band’s tour manager is in prison after pleading guilty to igniting the pyrotechnics.

If you have been wondering whatever happened to Kix, look no further than the band Funny Money. Funny Money features former Kix members, Steve Whiteman on vocals, and Jimmy Chalfant on drums. The band has gone through some line up changes over the years, but Funny Money has formed a solid four piece lineup with former Centerfold bassist, Mark Schenker and Rob Galpin on lead guitar.
Stick It, is the third studio album by Funny Money, and may be the best one yet. Legendary producer Beau Hill, mixed this disc, and all of the songs flow well as a result of it. Stick It should give Kix fans everything they have been wanting. This is a very strong offering full of AC/DC style, blues infested hard rock.
Check out a couple of tracks below:
About Women is a live video performance by Funny Money.
Slow to Blow is a great track that will give you an idea of what you will hear on Stick It.
If you like either of the tracks above, you need to pick this up. This is a disc that will appeal to 80’s Hard Rock fans, Kix fans, and probably quite a few AC/DC fans as well. It is solid all the way through, and well worth checking out.
Buy It! You will be glad you did!

Here is a little Easter Humor for you!
The Evil Easter Bunny!
Coming up at the Hard Rock Hideout this week…..
In the tradition of Easter Leftovers, I will be doing 2006 Leftovers at the Hard Rock Hideout. Music that is so good, that it deserves to be reviewed, but never got its chance in 2006. Stop back each day for some fairly new tunes still worth hearing in 2007!
Rob Zombie is remaking the John Carpenter classic, Halloween.
The new trailer was just released. Check it out! It looks awesome!
Before the beginning of the 2007 American Idol Season, I read that the shows’ producers were not looking for any rock singers for this year’s competition. Quite frankly, it has made the 2007 show a stale and a somewhat boring Pop music competition.
Over in Finland, where the rock scene has not died. The following news has come over:
22-year-old Finnish heavy metal singer Ari Koivunen was crowned the winner of the the national TV talent show “Idols” Friday night (April 6) after singing four songs — including SCORPIONS’ “Still Loving You”, SOUNDGARDEN’s “Black Hole Sun” and SONATA ARCTICA’s “Full Moon” — during the competition’s final. The performances — which were broadcast live on MTV3 from the Helsinki Ice Hall are available for viewing on YouTube:
Scorpions – Still Loving You
Soundgarden – Black Hole Sun
Sonata Artica – Full Moon
Led Zeppelin – Rock and Roll
Deep Purple – Perfect Strangers
Billy Joel – Piano Man
Stratovarius – Hunting High and Low
Iron Maiden – The Evil That Men Do
Whitesnake – Here I go Again
Ari Koivunen may not be the best singer in the world, but he is a good singer and I can only expect that he will continue to get better over the years. I am sure we will see this kid in another great Finnish hard rock band soon.
Sadly, Ari is the shot in the arm that American Idol badly needed. A rock singer of this caliber would have made the show interesting again.
Maybe 2008 will be better……..

The first single, ‘I Don’t Want To Stop’, will premiere next Friday, April 13. You can hear a clip here.

“While while the CD release of Snakes & Arrows is still set for May 1st, the much anticipated DVD Album Limited Edition has been delayed yet again. The new L.E. release date is now June 5th. No details have been given at to why, but there have been rumors of production delays with the DVD Album. in addition to the CD and Limited Edition offered elsewhere, Walmart is offering a CD version ‘with Exclusive Video Download’. According to their website, ‘this package will include a video clip from the upcoming VH-1 Special on Rush.’ This upcoming VH-1 Special is obviously news in itself, but it has been confirmed that the ‘exclusive video’ is a video of Geddy (Lee) and Alex’s (Lifeson) appearance on XM’s ‘Artist Confidential’ from 2004. The video is obtained via a special code which is included either in the Walmart packaging or embedded in the CD itself, which allows the purchaser to download the video. Lordi is postponing North American Concert Dates
Finnish metal monsters LORDI have postponed their previously announced North American tour dates to coincide with the band’s appearance at this summer’s Ozzfest. However, the group is still expected to go through with its two-night stint at the Bamboozle music festival in East Rutherford, New Jersey on May 5 and 6.
The affected dates are as follows:
Apr. 20 – Anaheim, CA @ House of Blues
Apr. 21 – Hollywood, CA @ Avalon
Apr. 22 – San Francisco, CA @ Slims
Apr. 24 – Denver, CO @ Gothic Theatre
Apr. 27 – Chicago, IL @ Metro
Apr. 28 – Detroit, MI @ Harpo’s
May 01 – Montreal, QUE @ Le Spectrum
May 02 – Philadelphia, PA @ Trocadero
May 03 – Baltimore, MD @ Recher Theatre
Since winning Eurovision (the song contest that previously was a springboard for mainstream artists such as ABBA and CELINE DION) by its highest score ever, LORDI‘s popularity has grown to gargantuan heights, with the band conquering numerous European charts and a six-week sold out tour of Europe. The band’s latest album, “The Arockalypse” has been certified triple platinum in Finland and is now also among the Top 60 best-selling Finnish albums ever. In addition to gracing the cover of dozens of Finnish publications, news features on LORDI‘s groundbreaking Eurovision win appeared outside of Finland in media outlets such as The New York Times, The Guardian and Spin.
White Tiger is the band that Mark started up after he left KISS. His band mates are one time Black Sabbath singer, David Donato, Mark’s brother Michael Norton on bass, and Brian James Fox on drums.
White Tiger has a heavier sound that falls somewhere between KISS and Black Sabbath.
Rock Warriors is a very cool track that was not mixed very well. Donato’s vocals get washed out by the guitars and bass on this track. The remixed version of Rock Warriors on this disc, takes care of this problem, and is a much better sounding version.
Love/Hate is an upbeat song with a great guitar sound. Bad Time Coming is a mide tempo song that has a heavy bass groove by Norton, and great vocals by David Donato. This is a good song, and could have been a potential hit for this band.
The production on Runaway sounds a little muddy to me, but the song is good, and its style kind of reminds me of Savatage. Mark St.John has some excellent soloing on this track.
Still Standing Strong is a very good heavy track. The mixing on this track was heavy on the guitars and bass, Donato’s vocals get a little washed out, but its still a good song.
Live to Rock is a catchy track with simple lyrics. Mark St. John has more excellent solos on this song. Very cool!
I love Mark St.John’s guitar sound on Northern Wind. It reminds me a great deal of John Sykes guitar work on the Whitesnake album. This is another cool song.
On Stand & Deliver, David Donato’s vocals stand tall, and Mark St.John plays great thoughout.
White Hot Desire is a good ass kicking track that reminds me some of RIOT.
You can still find White Tiger’s CD on the net in a few places. This CD does have its production issues, but itt is a solid listen, and worth picking up to discover the work of fallen rock warrior and guitar hero, Mark St. John.
Rest in Peace, Mark!

LISTEN TO THE NEW OZZY TRACKS!!
A number of audio clips from OZZY OSBOURNE’s forthcoming album have been posted online at Ozzy.com (Note: You have to scroll over and click on the books and other images on the main page to hear the audio).
The first single, “I Don’t Want to Stop”, from the upcoming CD will receive its online premiere on Friday, April 13.
Ozzy Osbourne recently told Rolling Stone magazine (web site) that the war in Iraq weighed heavily on his mind during the recording sessions for his first album of new material in six years. “Bombs are falling and tears are falling,” Ozzy reportedly sneers across what Rolling Stone described as “a modern metal anthem,” entitled “Countdown’s Begun”. But Osbourne told the magazine that he didn’t set out to write another “War Pigs”, the BLACK SABBATH classic inspired by an earlier generation’s unpopular war. “I don’t want to get political,” said Ozzy, who has visited maimed soldiers in military hospitals during recent tours. “I try to mask it so you can think what you like. The things around you affect you but you don’t realize it. You look at CNN and a fucking car bomb has gone off.”
Among the eleven new tracks Osbourne has recorded is “Not Going Away”, which Rolling Stone describes as “a fiery rocker with ominous riffs from guitarist Zakk Wylde,” and “Lay Your World On Me”, which was inspired by Ozzy’s wife and manager’s recent battle with cancer. Other songtitles set to appear on the CD include “The Almighty Dollar” and “Not Going Away”.
The follow-up to 2001’s “Down to Earth”, was recorded with the same band that backed Osbourne on his scattered 2006 Ozzfest dates — Zakk Wylde on guitar, Mike Bordin on drums, and former ROB ZOMBIE bassist Rob “Blasko” Nicholson. The album has no official producer, although longtime Mutt Lange protégé Kevin Churko is serving as the engineer.
“Kevin’s working the machines and helping me with the songwriting,” Osbourne recently told Revolver magazine. “He really knows what he’s doing with the ProTools, which is good because I can’t work the fucking thing. I can barely work a light switch!”
The new CD is the first to be recorded in Osbourne’s home studio, located in the newly soundproofed guest house behind his Beverly Hills mansion, which he’s outfitted with a mixing desk and a ProTools rig. “If you ever have inspiration, you can put down an idea,” Osbourne told Rolling Stone of recording at home. “The bad thing is your wife can get ahold of you all the time for whatever she wants you to do.”
Former Kiss Guitarist Mark St. John Dead at 51
Acccording to KissFAQ.com, Mark St. John was born Mark Norton, in Hollywood, California, on February 7, 1956. His parents moved in the early 1960s to Garden Grove, CA where Mark was initially more interested in sports than music. In an interview with KISS Strike, Mark recalled, “I played all sports, in fact I played sports before I got into music. Especially basketball, I mean I tried all sports but basketball is what I excelled in. And when I got into high school we started playing CIF with other teams from L.A. and they were all black and I felt that I wasn’t a very good basketball player. I mean they just slip and slide all over you, they jump higher and they run faster and you felt belittled after the first five minutes and I gave it up after that.”
Growing up in Southern California, Mark didn’t start playing guitar until he was a sophomore in highschool in 1972 when he also started to grow his hair longer, undoubtedly part of that age-group’s rebellion from their parents and society. Initially guitar playing started as a hobby, but within a year Mark had become quite serious about it.
As to why he started plaing guitar, Mark recalled, “I guess because the guitar was the new thing happening — it was the sound. I’m from a generation that went through a whole different thing in music, like a culture-type thing. It was the voice of the people. It was a source of rebellion and the guitar was one of the biggest things. I remember watching television and seeing THE BEATLES and THE ROLLING STONES on the ‘Ed Sullivan Show’. They didn’t have tubas, they had guitars and everyone was going crazy and that put a spark in my mind… The guitar is rock ‘n roll. That’s what it’s all about. From the ’50s on, the emphasis was on the guitar sound. Everyone was trying to make the guitar sound like other instruments, but it’s not so easy to make other instruments sound like the guitar. The guitar is what’s happening”
Mark has a brother, Michael (born 1964), who plays bass. The two would be in bands together following Mark’s tenure in KISS. They also have one sister (born 1960).
Mark replaced Vinnie Vincent as lead guitarist for Kiss in April 1984, following Vincent’s falling-out with the band (Mark was suggested to Paul Stanley by Grover Jackson of Jackson Guitars). St. John played on the majority of the band’s 1984 album Animalize (Bruce Kulick was featured on the song, “Lonely Is The Hunter”). During work for the album, St. John clashed with the other members of the band, and eventually developed arthritis (Reiter’s Syndrome), which caused his hands and arms to swell. He was all but unable to perform live as a member of Kiss, and only played three (one in full) shows during the “Animalize” tour, with Kulick filling in for the rest. He was officially replaced by Kulick in December 8, 1984.
St. John’s only video appearance with Kiss is in the video for Heaven’s On Fire”.
After leaving Kiss, St. John formed his new group White Tiger with one-time Black Sabbath vocalist David Donato and released one LP in 1986.

Vince Neil to open DR. FEELGOOD bar in Palm Beach, Florida
According to Florida’s Palm Beach Post, MÖTLEY CRÜE frontman Vince Neil, former Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Todd Wade and former Florida Gator southpaw quarterback Bob Hewko just signed a partnership with M&M to open a rock ‘n’ roll themed bar-restaurant in West Palm Beach named Dr. Feelgood’s Rock Bar, after the 1989 album by Neil‘s band. The joint, in the space currently occupied by MonkeyClub, will be stuffed with Neil memorabilia and his Harley collection. The bar area will be designed to look like a pharmacy, the liquor bottles will be displayed between oversized pharmaceuticals and the bartenders will wear sexy nurses’ uniforms.
“Vince has a condo in Miami Beach and we met through a mutual friend,” Mash said. “We’ve been talking to him about this for a while. He wants to give a free concert for the grand opening. He loves the location.”
Next door, former Bravo cable network “Top Chef” star Stephen Asprinio, 24, is scheduled to open Forte Di Asprinio, an Italian joint, with his uncle, Palm Beach moneybags Bob Cuillo. He is founder of the nearby Cuillo Centre for the Arts.
“They’re both putting money into that project,” Mash said. “People go to dinner there, then go for a drink at Dr. Feelgood.”
A third new place with the feel of an NYC-style club, Rebar, and a fourth, Lost Weekend, are also planned at the complex.
Thunderstone is no exception. This is one kick ass Finnish power metal band.
Thunderstone features Pasi Rantanen on vocals, Nino Laurenne on guitar, Titus Hjelm on bass, Kari Tornack on keyboards and Mirka Rantanen on drums.
Pasi Rantanen has a vocal style similar to that of Johnny Gioeli of Hardline, and the band has a sound that reminds me of a heavy Dream Theater. Thunderstone’s Evolution 4.0 is one kick ass, heavy, melodic metal disc.
If you like the music in the two videos below, you are going to love Evolution 4.0. It is an all killer, no filler disc.
Face in the Mirror
This disc is full of great vocals, excellent guitars, kick ass double bass drumming, and is a amazing listen from beginning to end. This disc will be one to compete for the top 10 metal discs of 2007 at the Hard Rock Hideout. Yes, it is that good! Check it out!

Mitchell Peters of Billboard.com reports: A full itinerary is still being confirmed, but POISON and RATT will join forces for a summer trek starting June 13 at the Bi Lo Center in Greenville, S.C., and wrapping Aug. 19 at the Coors Amphitheatre in Denver.
The tour, which brings POISON and RATT onstage together for the first time since 1999, will visit amphitheaters, festivals and fairs in such cities as Boston, Detroit, New York, New Jersey and Los Angeles, says Troy Blakely, who books POISON with the Agency for the Performing Arts.
“Generally we’re going to play 50-60 dates,” Blakely tells Billboard.com. “I’d say 30-35 are sheds. The rest are various festivals, fairs and indoor shows.”
Confirmed festivals thus far include Birmingham, Ala.’s City Stages (June 16), Bay City, Mich.’s Bay City River Roar (June 22), Pryor, Okla.’s Rocklahoma (July 13) and Sturgis, S.D.’s Buffalo Chip (Aug. 5).
Together for a short but memorable time—a trio of studio albums, a couple of tours, and countless thundering riffs—the second coming of Black Sabbath began in 1979 when founding members Tony Iommi and Terry “Geezer” Butler were joined by Ronnie James Dio. The former singer of Elf (and later Rainbow and Dio) added his fiery, demonic howl to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group’s crushing mix of iconic riffs, gloomy grooves and doom-soaked imagery.
In late 2006 Dio, Iommi and Butler, joined by drummer Vinny Appice, reunited to record three new songs for Rhino Records’ era-spanning collection The Dio Years. These recording sessions went so well that the quartet—billed as Heaven And Hell—launched a highly anticipated world tour in the spring of 2007.
Released just weeks after The Dio Years, this single-disc Rhino Handmade edition of the original double LP, Live At Hammersmith Odeon, features Dio, Iommi, Butler and Appice getting hot one December night in London during Sabbath’s 1981 tour for Mob Rules. Previously unreleased, the concert spotlights Sabbath as they storm through 14 of the Dio-era’s best, including “Neon Knights,” “Heaven And Hell,” “Children Of The Sea” and “Country Girl.” The band also performs several pre-Dio classics including “Paranoid,” “Children Of The Grave” and a white-hot version of “War Pigs.”
Live At Hammersmith Odeon is available as an individually numbered limited edition of 5,000 copies.

Fast Forward to 2007! Danny Vaughn has experienced mild success with his previous offerings in Waysted, and later Tyketto. 21 Years later, Danny is off on his own and has released a solo disc under his own name. He is joined by his band mates, guitarists Tony Marshall (Contagious) and Pat Heath ( Brave New World), plus Steve McKenna (Ten) on bass and Lee Morris (Paradise Lost) on drums.
If you enjoyed the Tyketto disc, Don’t Come Easy, you may want to give Traveller a listen.
This disc starts off out with a very catchy, Journey like track right out of the gate, Miracle Days. Badlands Rain has a great guitar sound and excellent vocals to boot.
The title track, Traveller is a very positive, upbeat song, and is one of this disc’s highlights.
Restless Blood sounds as if it could have been a leftover Tyketto song, I couldn’t be happier with its sound. This is another great melodic rock song.
Thats What She Says is an acoustic based number that Danny Vaughn shines on vocally. The video below for the song was taken from the acoustic set, where Danny was opening for Journey in London on March 14th, 2007.
The Touch of Your Hand is a low tempo number and to me, Traveller’s first snoozer. Some people may like this song, but it was a bit too slow for my tastes.
Lifted is a good piano based number. This song may be a little too light for some, but it isn’t a bad song by any means. This song comes across to me as a Christian rock tune. That is the vibe I get from this one.
The Warriors Way is much heavier than the last two offerings, and is a much needed change, at this point on Traveller. This is another solid track on Traveller.
The Measure Of A Man has a very country feel about it. Either you like country, or you don’t. I don’t hate it, but I don’t want it on my rock albums either. (HINT HINT BON JOVI!) I usually skip this track.
Think of Me in the Fall made me want to smack the hell out of the person playing the triangle. (At least that is what I believe it to be anyway.) I skip this song as well.
Death by the Tiger and Better By Far failed to excite me and felt like more filler.
Traveller as a whole is not a bad effort by any means. Danny Vaughn still has one of the better voices in the business, and the songs here reflect this. Traveller starts off strong, but about mid way through begins to take a tail slide. A couple more heavy tracks could have helped this disc out quite a bit. It was a bit too light for my tastes in a few places. While not all of the songs appeal to me me, fans of good melodic rock will probably eat this disc up. You can hear more of Danny Vaughn’s tunes at his myspace page here.

POISON, one of rock’s most iconic and enduring bands, has recorded a new album of cover songs, featuring many of their favorite rock classics. “Poison’d”, the band’s first new studio album since 2002, will be released June 5 on CD and digitally by EMI America Records/Capitol.
Featuring POISON’s original members, Bret Michaels (vocals), C.C. DeVille (guitar), Rikki Rockett (drums) and Bobby Dall (bass), “Poison’d” presents the band’s first new studio recordings since 2002’s “Hollyweird”. Produced by Don Was at Hensen Recording Studios in Hollywood, “Poison’d” packs 13 explosive tracks, including new recordings of DAVID BOWIE’s “Suffragette City”, THE CARS’ “You’re Just What I Needed”, THE ROMANTICS’ “What I Like About You”, SWEET’s “Little Willy”, THE MARSHALL TUCKER BAND’s “Can’t You See” and THE ROLLING STONES’ “Dead Flowers”. Some of POISON’s best previously recorded covers are also featured on “Poison’d”, including KISS’ “Rock and Roll All Nite”, GRAND FUNK RAILROAD’s “We’re An American Band” and LOGGINS AND MESSINA’s “Your Mama Don’t Dance”.
“POISON is one of the greatest rock ‘n roll bands in the world and, after 20 years, they can slam better than ever,” says “Poison’d” producer Don Was. “They’re powerful musicians and very cool guys. We had a lot of fun making this album and I think you can hear it in the grooves — it’s got the jive and is truly alive! I urge everyone to listen to it!”
Following the release of “Poison’d”, POISON will hit the road again on June 12 for a major North American summer concert tour. Tour dates and details will be announced and posted to the band’s official website as they are confirmed.
In July, VH1 will premiere a new reality show, “Rock of Love with Bret Michaels”. VH1’s description of the show has “the hard-rockin’ POISON front man looking for a woman who can truly keep up with his rock-n-roll lifestyle and not become jealous of his one true passion — performing, which has been the reason for and destruction of most of his relationships.”
“Poison’d” (CD and Digital Album) (not final sequence) track listing:
01. Little Willy (SWEET)
02. Suffragette City (DAVID BOWIE)
03. I Never Cry (ALICE COOPER)
04. I Need to Know (TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS)
05. Can’t You See (THE MARSHALL TUCKER BAND)
06. What I Like About You (THE ROMANTICS)
07. Dead Flowers (THE ROLLING STONES)
08. Just What I Needed (THE CARS)
09. Rock and Roll All Nite (KISS)
10. Squeeze Box (THE WHO)
11. Your Mama Don’t Dance (LOGGINS AND MESSINA)
12. You Don’t Mess Around With Jim (JIM CROCE)
13. We’re An American Band (GRAND FUNK RAILROAD)
Personally, I do not like cover albums, but I question Poison’s need to re-release covers that they have had on past discs. So if you buy the new disc, you are getting covers of covers that have been covered. What the Hell! I think I may have to pass this one up.
Mick Mars giving Dilana a hand
According to ChartAttack.com, Dilana Robichaux — known to most as the runner-up to Lukas Rossi in the “Rock Star: Supernova” television series — is collaborating with MÖTLEY CRÜE guitarist Mick Mars on a song called “Time is a Wound”, to be included on Dilana‘s debut album.
“I immediately ‘fell in love’ with my new adopted Dad, Mick,” Robichaux wrote in a recent post on her MySpace page. “We instantly had a chemistry and a connection so special that I’m still totally dumb-founded by it!
“I’ve never met someone so beautiful, funny, giving, caring and talented and I’m sooo excited to work with him some more!”
The pair, who got together in mid-March to jam, recently got “pact” tattoos — Mars on his hand and Robichaux on her chest — of the African voodoo symbol for Mars at Sunset Strip Tattoo in Los Angeles. Mars also gave the singer one of his guitars, an ’80s white and gold Gretsch with a penguin on it.
Robichaux made a guest appearance on the recent self-titled album by ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA and former GUNS N’ ROSES member Gilby Clarke.
New Queensryche CD and DVD on the way
QUEENSRŸCHE brought the group‘s acclaimed “Operation: Mindcrime” albums to the stage last year performing the original and its 2006 sequel in their entirety during the group’s successful North American tour. The marathon shows included a full theatrical production complete with Surround Sound, video imagery and actors portraying the concept albums’ characters onstage with the band. Rhino captures QUEENSRŸCHE‘s epic performance in front of the quintet’s hometown crowd at the Moore Theater in Seattle with “Mindcrime at the Moore” . The DVD features the same performance expanded with bonus material including a tour documentary, a featurette on the band’s “Rock & Ride Across America” charity motorcycle ride for the VH1 Save The Music Foundation, and a live performance of “The Chase” from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, featuring Ronnie James Dio‘s only public appearance as Dr. X.
“This concert is the realization of an idea that began nearly two decades ago,” says Tate. “The story and music of ‘Operation: Mindcrime’ is very dear to the band. We are thrilled with this performance and proud to share it with our audience.”
QUEENSRŸCHE released “Operation: Mindcrime” in 1988. Praised by critics and certified platinum, the album was an acclaimed success remaining on Billboard‘s Top 200 for more than a year. In 2006 the band released a long-awaited sequel to their magnum opus to critical and commercial success. The album debuted at #14 on the Top 200, their highest debut in over a decade.
The concept albums follow an intriguing and complex plot that revolves around Dr. X, a political puppet master who brainwashes Nikki — the story’s main character — to assassinate corrupt public figures. The story also includes Nikki‘s lover, Sister Mary. A former teenage prostitute who becomes a nun, Sister Mary is murdered mysteriously, leaving the cliffhanger “Who Killed Sister Mary?” Set 20 years after the original, “Operation: Mindcrime II” explores Nikki‘s fate after being released from prison and reveals the identity of Mary‘s killer. The album centers on revenge and what it does to people, their emotions and the choices they make.
