Faster Pussycat – The Power and the Glory Hole (2006)

Faster Pussycat PowerFaster Pussycat returned in 2006 with their first new studio disc in 14 years, The Power and the Glory Hole.

The only remaining original member is singer Taime Down. The rest of the band is filled out by Xristian Simon on Guitar, Danny Nordahl on Bass, and Chad Stewart on Drums.

I have to be honest. I hope the songs that Faster Pussycat performs at Rocklahoma are from their late 80’s and early 90’s catalog. I do not think The Power and theRRRSmall Glory Hole is a glorious return for Faster Pussycat at all. This new CD has elements of sleaze, glam and industrial type of music. Some songs almost work, and some are so noisy, I could not enjoy them at all. At times, it almost sounds like band is trying to venture into Marilyn Manson territory. If you like that style of music, you may enjoy this, but this was a little to different from original releases for my taste.

A couple of the songs on this disc, if reworked with less industrial style bass, could have been very cool. Unfortunately, distorted bass over powers most of the songs on the The Power & The Glory Hole.

If Faster Pussycat’s Rocklahoma set consists of songs mainly off of this disc, I would recommend getting in line for a beer, and some food. This disc will likely disappoint most fans of 80’s style hard rock. I found this disc unlistenable.

If Faster Pussycat started as an industrial act, I would probably enjoy this record too. The band has always had a hard/sleaze rock sound. Not that I would expect for them to rehash their old tunes from the early 90’s, but they used to be able to write catchy tunes, and this album is far too different from the sound they used to possess.

Glad you like it Rylee. It isn’t an album for everyone though.

I just think that 90% of the reviews of this album are by closed-minded 80s metalheads, stuck in the decade of decadence. It’s 2008. it’s time to move on. i love the 80s to, but i’m also a huge manson fan, pretty much any trash gothy industrial stuff (Undercover Slut, Dope Stars Inc.) and this is so Hollywood it’s amazing. Really great industrial Sleaze Rock album, IMO

Glad you like it Sixx. This one just didn’t do it for me.

Come on guys, being a tad harsh arent we? Ive just got a hold of this album and love it. Ok, granted, it isn’t as glamy as their earlier stuff, but I reckon it still rocks. Yes, it does sound very Newlydead-ish, but definatly still sleazy feeling. And, after all, thats what these guys are famous for. Being from Australia, I haven’t been fortunate enough to see these guys live, and to see them with Poison and Cinderella would be a dream come true. Rock on people.

It sounds like Taime’s goth project, the Newlydeads, may have played a big part in what he’s doing now.

Dude i saw them a few years back open up for Cinderella and Poison and man they SUCKED SO MUCH, their sound was all muddy and just plain awfull, not to mention Tanie was dressed in fishnet stockings and high heels and looked like a prostitute, they crowd hated them. Not heard this album yet and probably won’t. I think they had maybe one good album in them and that was the debut, i’ve seen em maybe 4 times and the only time they were good was the 1st time when they opened up for Ace Frehley.

Ughh, then who knows what they might at Rocklahoma. Although they would likely get booed if they play too much of this album and not enough of the first three records.

Actually, its Taime Downe’s version at Rocklahoma.

Yeah, I agree with you on this one. I was really disapointed to. I am a big fan of Faster Pussycat from the late 80’s & early 90’s…just not this one. They could do a lot better than this. But, I bet their set at Rocklahoma will consist mostly of the good stuff.

It’s the Brent Muscat version that’s playing at Rocklahoma right? So they should be playing a set of the band’s classic songs since Taime isn’t there.
