Which Ulster band is supporting the Stones? Here’s The Answer
Ulster rockers The Answer today told of their amazement at securing their biggest concert to date – supporting The Rolling Stones in front of 80,000 people in Serbia.
They also supported Aerosmith at Hyde Park in London.
The Stones gig is the latest in a series of successes for the band, who count tennis legend Pat Cash among their fans.
The re-release of their album Rise shipped over 10,000 in its first few weeks.
Speaking from Wimbledon, where he was planning to meet up with Australian star Cash later, The Answer’s frontman Cormac Neeson said he was still pinching himself about the massive support slot.
“It’s just amazing. The Rolling Stones are just about the best rock ‘n’ roll band of all time and so many of their albums have influenced The Answer, so to be asked to support them is such an honour,” he said.
“We were in Dublin supporting The Who at the weekend when we got word of the gig.
“We’ve been buzzing ever since.”
Cormac said the band had enjoyed a brilliant summer so far.
“The album sales are doing well and we’ve had great feedback on our MySpace page,” he said.
“And the Aerosmith gig was great. We played in front of about 60,000 people and the weather held for that one hour that we were on.
“The crowd stretched for as far as the eye could see and the atmosphere was brilliant.
“I decided just to relax and enjoy it and not get too nervous and that’s the attitude I’m going to take with the Serbian gig.”
As yet, the band hasn’t been approached about supporting the Rolling Stones when they play Slane Castle in Ireland later in the summer.
“I’ve been to Croatia before but never to Serbia and I’m really looking forward to taking in the sights and sounds,” Cormac added.
Will Pat Cash be joining them on tour? “Who knows, he might have some tennis legends event to attend but we’ll see,” he said.
“Myself and Paul (Mahon, The Answer’s guitarist) have been invited to Wimbledon by Pat. We don’t know who we’re going to see, but it’ll be great catching up with Pat later.”

ROADRUNNER RECORDS SIGNS AUSTRALIAN ROCKERS AIRBOURNE:
Press Release / New York, NY- Roadrunner Records is proud to announce the signing of Aussie hard rockers, Airbourne. Forming a genuine brand of fist-pumping, beer-slinging rock ‘n’ roll, Airbourne have established a respectable name for themselves in their native country. Although still very young, the band sonically tears pages from the bible of anthemic rock of the 70’s and 80’s, taking us back to a time where music was loud, fiercely genuine and hook laden. Their dynamic and energetic live performances offer a much-needed cure for the downtrodden vibe of popular music. Much like their forefathers, Airbourne offers nothing but a good time! Airbourne is: brothers Joel O’Keeffe (vocals/lead guitar) and Ryan O’Keeffe (drums), David Roads (guitar) and Justin Street (bass).
Forming out of the musical connection of two brothers, Airbourne was conceived by Joel and Ryan O’Keeffe, and was vested in their mutual love for bands such as Rose Tattoo, Van Halen, Motörhead, AC/DC and The Angels. Later joined by David Roads and Justin Street, the quartet set out to make straightforward rock ‘n’ roll, complete with catchy choruses, decadent themes and the driving rhythm to match.
“It’s hard to explain,” vocalist/guitarist Joel O’Keeffe states, “but that’s what I always wanted to hear – straight-ahead Aussie pub rock.” The resulting product was a stripped down approach to rock with song titles to match the party oriented sentiment. Investing time and money for the love of the music, the band spent years working the local circuit, eventually graduating to national tours and exposure. Years of hard work paid off, catching the attention of music fans throughout Australia and the world.
Roadrunner senior VP of A&R, Ron Burman, instantly fell in love with “their brand of anthemic, catchy, hard rock-n-roll.” He states, “I am so excited that we signed Airbourne. They are a young, fists in the air, high energy, in-your-face type of hard rock band. I saw them play a few times in Austin at South By Southwest and they blew me away.”
Sharing national stages with the likes of the Rolling Stones, Motley Crüe and The Living End, the band has honed in on its performance Zen. A live show is sure to include bursting energy, rowdy crowds singing their hearts out and free-flowing beer. “We always go on-stage and try to prove a point,” O’Keeffe directs, “about how GOOD rock ‘n’ roll is!” The band takes on the mission to spread that infectious love of rock, even performing at Australia’s biggest rock festival in 2006, Big Day Out. They are currently playing dates throughout Australia.
In June the band released Runnin’ Wild, a red-blooded collection of rallying rock anthems with undeniable choruses and feel good momentum in Australia. Scheduled to be released in the US and Europe through Roadrunner Records in early 2008, the album channels the endearing qualities of classic rock while breathing new life through modern production and arrangement. Boasting an all-star team, Runnin’ Wild was produced by Bob Marlette (Black Sabbath, Quiet Riot) and mixed by Andy Wallace (Guns N’ Roses, Nirvana, Linkin Park). With lead tracks such as “Runnin’ Wild,” “Stand Up For Rock n Roll,” and “Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast,” Runnin’ Wild will be the new soundtrack to all-night partying. Airbourne have risen to the challenge and are ready to bring their authentic brand of power rock to the US in 2008!

Dark Ride is one of the 8 movies that was part of the After Dark Horrorfest last November. I caught a couple of those films on the big screen last year, so I felt compelled to track the other ones down once they came out on DVD.
Dark Ride is a story starring the Sopranos’ Jamie Lynn Sigler. It is about 5 college kids who decided to spend the night in the Dark Ride amusement ride that has been shut down, but soon to reopen after nearly 20 years. A gristly murder shut down the attraction years ago, and the 20 something cast decided they wanted to spend the night there (before they were privy to this info). The killer from the original murder escaped from the Asylum and also decided to take refuge at the scene of his crime.
Dark Ride has plenty of scenes that will make you jump, and their is plenty of gore. The story is kind of weak, and somewhat predictable, but it is a fun little horror flick that is worthy of a rental.

Queensryche Releases Live CD & DVD Capturing Epic ‘Operation: Mindcrime’ Saga In Its Entirety
Queensrÿche brought the group’s acclaimed Operation: Mindcrime albums to the stage last year performing the original and its 2006 sequel in their entirety during the group’s successful North American tour. The marathon shows included a full theatrical production complete with surround sound, video imagery and actors portraying the concept albums’ characters onstage with the band. Rhino captures Queensrÿche’s epic performance in front of the quintet’s hometown crowd at the Moore Theater in Seattle with Mindcrime At The Moore. The double CD and double DVD versions will both be available July 3rd at all physical retail outlets and www.rhino.com.
The CD includes singer and chief songwriter Geoff Tate along with guitarists Michael Wilton and Mike Stone, bassist Eddie Jackson and drummer Scott Rockenfield performing all 32 Mindcrime tracks plus a two-song encore featuring their signature hits-“Jet City Woman” and “Walk In The Shadows.” The DVD features the same performance expanded with bonus material including a tour documentary, a featurette on the band’s “Rock & Ride Across America” charity motorcycle ride for the VH1 Save The Music Foundation, and a live performance of “The Chase” from the Gibson Amphitheater in Los Angeles, featuring Ronnie James Dio‘s only public appearance as Dr. X.
“This concert is the realization of an idea that began nearly two decades ago,” says Tate. “The story and music of Operation: Mindcrime is very dear to the band. We are thrilled with this performance and proud to share it with our audience.”
Queensrÿche released Operation: Mindcrime in 1988. Praised by critics and certified platinum, the album was an acclaimed success remaining on Billboard’s Top 200 for more than a year. In 2006 the band released a long-awaited sequel to their magnum opus to critical and commercial success. The album debuted at #14 on the Top 200, their highest debut in over a decade.
The concept albums follow an intriguing and complex plot that revolves around Dr. X, a political puppet master who brainwashes Nikki– the story’s main character– to assassinate corrupt public figures. The story also includes Nikki’s lover, Sister Mary. A former teenage prostitute who becomes a nun, Sister Mary is murdered mysteriously, leaving the cliffhanger “Who Killed Sister Mary?” Set 20 years after the original, Operation: Mindcrime II explores Nikki’s fate after being released from prison and reveals the identity of Mary’s killer. The album centers on revenge and what it does to people, their emotions and the choices they make.

Stuck Mojo has released a new video for their song, I’m American. The powerful message in this video comes just in time for Independence Day.
If you like what you see here, you can download the new Stuck Mojo album, Southern Born Killers, off of the band’s website here.
When I initially purchased a copy of The Answer’s disc Rise, I downloaded it off of ITunes to save the expense of importing the disc. When the news came across that the Answer was re-releasing the CD in June of 2007 with a 2nd Bonus CD, with B-Sides and 5 new songs, I knew that I would not be able to hold off on buying this disc any longer.
I reviewed the initial release here. After a few months of listening to this first CD, I probably should have rated this disc higher. Rise continues to stay in my play list months after I first purchased it.
The thing that is completely mind-boggling to me is, the United States has not yet got to know the awesome band, as they do not have a U.S. distribution deal. Any band that is armed with so many great songs and videos should be playing on U.S. soil. This collection of tunes is strong enough to garner multi-platinum success for this band.
Under the Sky
Never Too Late
Come Follow Me
Be What You Want
This new release only solidifies what I already knew. The Answer is one of the best new rock bands out there.
The new songs are great, and the inclusion of Keep Believin’ from the 2005 EP is extremely cool.
I Won’t Let You Down is another Answer style rock anthem that could easily support another single and video. The cover of Aerosmith’s Sweet Emotion is fantastic. While staying true to the original, Cormac Neeson handles the vocals of Steven Tyler quite well. The track Doctor has plenty of bluesy swagger, and So Cold has such a good beat that it could get the ladies out on the dance floor.
The songs Not Listening and Take it Easy have plenty of Led Zeppelin influence on them and are equally great.
If you haven’t picked up The Answer disc Rise yet, pick up the Special Edition version. The second disc gives you plenty of new tunes to listen to, on top of the superb original release. If you like classic hard rock, The Answer has the rock cd for you. Classic Rock Magazine calls this the “Best Debut Rock album of the decade“. I don’t disagree with that statement. The Answer has out done themselves with this collection! You can find the Rise – Special Edition at CD Universe. Go Get it! You wont be disappointed!

The daughter of British musician ROD STEWART has been romantically linked to notorious bad boy rocker TOMMY LEE. Socialite Kimberley was photographed leaving a Los Angeles nightclub this week (ends29Jun07) with Pamela Anderson’s ex, 44-year old Lee, who is famed for substance abuse and shooting a homemade sex film with his ex-wife.
Lee – who was also once married to blonde Heather Locklear, went to jail in 1998 for physically abusing Anderson. A friend of Stewart says, “Tommy Lee makes Calum Best look like a saint. It won’t be long before Rod’s on the phone.”
Comment: Does Tommy Lee certainly has a thing for famous blondes? At least Kimberly Stewart isn’t a household name yet.
VAN HALEN is preparing to hit the road in the U.S. beginning in September. The group’s lineup for the trek is expected to include David Lee Roth (vocals), Eddie Van Halen (guitar), Alex Van Halen (drums) and Eddie’s 16-year-old son Wolfgang Van Halen (bass).
Wolfgang Van Halen, the projected replacement for VH bassist Michael Anthony, told People magazine in April 2007 that he wasn’t disappointed there wasn’t’ going to be a VAN HALEN tour this summer following his father’s decision to check himself into rehab. “My dad’s taking care of himself,” he said. “I also think I’m too young for the experience, because I know there are a lot of bad things out there.”
Eddie Van Halen issued a statement addressed to fans in early March announcing that he was seeking treatment because “at the moment I do not feel that I can give you my best.
“That’s why I have decided to enter a rehabilitation facility to work on myself, so that in the future I can deliver the 110 percent that I feel I owe you and want to give you,” the statement said.
Back in January, Eddie Van Halen told Rolling Stone magazine about Wolfgang, “Wait until you hear this kid play. I pick him up from school every day and we jam. We’ve got a shredding bass player now that’s laying down the law for Alex [Van Halen, drums], so I get to weave in and out.”

Mustasch is a heavy metal band, that started in 1988 with members Ralf Gyllenhammar on vocals and lead guitar, Hannes Hansson on rhythm guitar, Mats Hansson on bass and Mats Johansson on drums. In 2007, this Swedish metal band has released their 4th full studio disc, Latest Version of the Truth.
I haven’t heard anything from this band before 2007, but one listen and I was hooked. Ralf Gyllenhammar sounds a lot like Ian Astbury from the Cult, however this disc is a lot heavier than anything from the combined might of Astbury and Duffy.
Watch the video for Double Nature one time. I bet that you will want to find more tunes by this band immediately.
The Heckler starts off with the swirling guitars of Gyllenhammar and Hansson. Gyllenhammar’s vocals were a little rough as first, reminding me of Lemmy from Motorhead, but after a few more guitar licks he settles back into his own sound. Cool song!
The Heavy Bass and tribal drum beats of I Wanna Be Loved is extremely cool. I don’t think I have heard a song with this cool of a metal rhythm since the first Phil Anselmo led Pantera disc.
Spreading the Worst is a song that I could hear making the transition to U.S. rock radio if given a chance. This song has a heavy Black Sabbath like bass rhythm, and a jangly guitar riff that is slow enough to show off Ralf Gyllenhammar’s great voice.
Bring Me Everyone is a super-cool,head-banger that changes the sound up between heavy guitar and bass riffs, and to acoustic guitar parts. This song has a definite Sabbath influence on it, and is one of my favorites on this disc.
Forever Begins Today is kind of a bizarre track for me. For some reason, this song has the feel that it should be in a James Bond Movie. It has this keyboard part that brings memories of the 007 flicks, but it has this really cool drum rhythm that helps the song out immensely. It is the least heavy track on this disc (not counting the Scyphozoa instrumental piece), but is still worth listening to.
Once again, Mats Johansson has me playing the air drums on I Am Not Aggressive. Gyllenhammar’s voice jumps out at me a few times, and cracks a few smiles on this reviewer’s face.
The End was a throw away track for me. It completely lacks the cohesion the other songs have and feels like a waste of time. It is just weird, and mixes all of the other songs together with a bunch of odd sound effects before revealing a piano based number six minutes later. This is a very strange way to close a disc. One more good song could have pushed this disc up a couple of notches and The End isn’t it. I probably will not listen to this song again, and it is too bad.
As a whole Latest Version of the Truth is a very solid Hard Rock/Metal offering, and one that I hope people will check out. This is one of the first bands I have heard out of Sweden that wasn’t a glam metal band, and just a straight up hard rock group.

Update: If you haven’t seen the official video for I Don’t Wanna Stop, I have added it below!
Have you heard the new track from Ozzy, I Don’t Wanna Stop? Eddie Trunk and Hairball John have both played this track on their radio shows, and it in the regular playlist at XM Radio now.
The last two weeks, Eddie Trunk has referred to the track as goofy several times. He thinks it is poorly written, and has ripped on it pretty bad.
On the other hand, Hairball John has played it and loves it. Personally, I agree with Hairball John. I think it is pretty cool.
Watch the official video and let me know what you think!
