Mondo Generator – Dead Planet (Release Year – 2007)
One of the acts that took the stage at the 2007 Ozzfest was Nick Oliveri’s band, Mondo Generator.
Nick Oliveri is no stranger to Ozzfest. He first took the stage in Ozzfest as the bassist for Queens of the Stone Age.
On Dead Planet, Nick handles the lead vocals and bass playing. Nick Oliveri’s razor sharp voice is one that takes a couple of listens to get used to, but I find his sound refreshingly different from so many of the singers that I have listened to as of late.
Mondo Generator has a punk/metal sound that I describe as Motorhead meets Velvet Revolver. The music on Dead Planet is extremely tight. The dual guitars of Ian Taylor and Spud are far better than I could have imagined.
Dead Planet gives you a wide selection of tunes. 17 songs averaging about 3 minutes in length. The cool thing about the short song length on Dead Planet is, if you find a song not to your liking, chances are 3 minutes later you will.
Stand out tracks are All The Way Down, Lie Detector, So High, Take Me Away, and Paper Thin.
I had no expectations when I first listened to this CD, and surprisingly liked this one a lot. If you are a fan of Nick’s former work in Queens of the Stone Age, get Dead Planet, you will love it. If you like the video above, for Lie Detector above, check out Mondo Generator, I think you will like them! You can hear more tracks at the band’s myspace page here.
