Last night, my wife and I made the trek 2 hours north to the tiny little town of Wapakoneta, Ohio to catch American Dog and Rhino Bucket live. Rhythm and Brews, the Club where the band played is an old World War II roadhouse that seats/stands less than 200 people. The club was easily at capacity last night, and the only way to see a show here is to arrive early to secure a seat. Surprisingly, this tiny club has hosted many national touring acts, and comedians over the years. It was pretty difficult to shoot pictures and take video in the club, without having a bobbing head, or a dancing girl in the way, but I managed to get a few.
American Dog took the stage around 9 P.M. This was my first experience seeing this band live. I have heard a few of American Dog’s tunes before, but I was not aware that American Dog was a three piece band. I was extremely impressed with how tight the band was, and AD guitarist Steve Theado was pretty amazing. This band plays great heavy party rock that is perfect for listening on a Saturday night, with your choice of cold beverage. I definitely would like to catch American Dog live again. Once was not enough for me.
Check out the video below!
Rhino Bucket hit the stage at about 11 P.M. or so. This was the first time for me to catch George Dolivo and company live. My only regret is not catching Rhino Bucket sooner. Rhino Bucket features George Dolivo on vocals and lead guitar, Brian Forsythe (Kix) on guitar, Reeve Downes on bass, and Simon Wright (AC/DC, DIO) on drums. I have always thought that Rhino Bucket was one of the better bands out there that had an AC/DC like sound. Saturday night, they proved me right. The band played plenty of their great cuts including, Beat To Death Like A Dog, One Night Stand, She Rides, Ride the Rhino, Ride With Yourself and I Was Told.
George Dolivo was in fine vocal form all night. It amazes me that after all these years, he is still able to scream out these vocals the way he does night after night. I have seen Brian Forsythe a few times in Kix. His guitar playing is an excellent addition to Rhino Bucket. George mentioned that Ronnie James Dio was gracious enough for Rhino Bucket to borrow Simon Wright to play drums. Simon was excellent on the skins last night, and I was glad to catch him with the band.
It was a great night of Rock and Roll in this small Ohio town. Rhino Bucket is on tour in the U.S. through early November. Don’t miss them if they come to your town! Enjoy the videos below!

Victory Pill, featuring ex-Pitchshifter and Prodigy guitarist JIM DAVIES and ex-Prodigy drummer KIERON PEPPER, have uploaded the video for the track “Worst Case Scenario” from their forthcoming Corporate Punishment debut below:
“The video was shot by DOSE PRODUCTIONS who did a few Pitchshifter videos. I have worked with them before and they were our first choice,” says Davies. “The video was shot in France in a bunker complex. The concept was just meant to be quite dark and grainy like the song and the guy in the video is basically slowly flipping out after taking a pill of some kind, it’s very claustrophobic. I wanted something quite moody to suit the song, although the end isn’t as uplifting as the end of the song as he blows his head off. Oops!”
“‘Worst Case Scenario’ was one of the first tunes I wrote for this band, it’s the most live sounding too,” continues Davies about the album’s lead single. “We used almost all live drums for this and it’s very bass heavy, not an amazing amount of guitar; in fact it’s quite sparse. Lyrically its very tongue in cheek; it’s about going through life and becoming very cynical about everything where you used to always expect the best outcome. This song is about always expecting the worst, which is almost a way of protecting ourselves from being constantly let down. I think anyone in a band knows what I mean. You have to put your faith in people that very often let you down completely and the music business is a very unfair place. I had quite a dark period musically several years ago when all I did was plan for the worst outcome so I wasn’t surprised when it came. But, I have to say the song isn’t meant to be all doom and gloom; the third verse is meant to be uplifting and to have you stop dwelling on the past and get on with it, it’s all good from now on. I’m not a miserable git, I promise!”
Victory Pill is the brainchild of JIM DAVIES of The Prodigy. His guitars shaped the group’s breakthrough album, Fat Of The Land, which included “Firestarter” and “Breathe”. Jim toured worldwide with the band including a headline slot at Reading 2001. Davies was also a contributing member of electro-metal outfit Pitchshifter who toured alongside Incubus and on Ozzfest. Davies contributed to the groundbreaking album, http://www.pitchshifter.com, as well as co-wrote the subsequent Deviant and PSI records. Davies last gig for Pitchshifter was immortalized in the Bootlegged, Distorted live album.
With that pedigree, it is no surprise then that the result is a mammoth debut album of inventive and infectious sounds, like the explosive songs, “Downfall” and “Another Clone,” as well as the critically acclaimed first single “Worst Case Scenario.”
Victory Pill will release their self-titled debut in North America on October 23rd, 2007 on Corporate Punishment Records. Fans can preview material from their forthcoming debut at
The band is currently offering a 1 of 2 free limited edition t-shirt designs to anyone who pre-orders the album through the Corporate Punishment website at the following location:
When I Was A Planet is a somewhat entertaining fusion of Punk and Metal.
This sound of Invitro kind of reminds me of Suicidal Tendencies at times. There is a lot of humor in the lyrics which will certainly crack a few smiles with even the toughest hard rock fan.
The heavy sound of this record may not appeal to everyone. Fans of the genre will probably like this, but those looking for a more mainstream hard rock effort, are probably not going to enjoy this record. This album does however have a noteworthy moment.
When I was a Planet is pretty good. The video below is pretty funny! This is the least heavy song on the record, and I like this one quite a bit.
As a whole, I found the album, When I Was A Planet a little too heavy for my taste. If you like your music on the heavier side, check out Invitro. You can find more info on Invitro at this link.

Alter Bridge have launched the world premiere of their new video for “Rise Today” on Yahoo! Music. The video was shot in Alter Bridge’s hometown of Orlando, FL back in September. Director Dale “Rage” Resteghini captures the explosive nature of Alter Bridge’s live show, filming the video in the band’s rehearsal space while they practiced for their headlining tour. Resteghini’s gritty video and use of lighting effects and vibrant colors conveys the power and emotion of “Rise Today.” Alter Bridge will release their new album Blackbird next Tuesday, October 9th.

Canadian rock band Evans Blue does not have a name that would necessarily bring Hard Rock or Heavy Metal to mind. The band has crafted a very good modern hard rock release that sounds like a cross between Tool and Atreyu.
Singer Kevin Matisyn has a strong and very good, clean singing voice. His voice drives the tunes on “The Pursuit” which range from heavy rockers like Red Dress, Shine Your Cadillac and The Pursuit to more mainstream sounding tracks like Q, Kiss the Flag, Pin-Up, and Fear. It is a nice variety of songs that make for a very good listen.
The bands’ sound has matured quite a bit since the debut record, The Melody and the Energetic Nature of Volume. I will be anxious to see how the bands’ sound continues to evolve on the next release.
Until then “The Pursuit Begins When This Portrayal Of Life Ends” is another release that these Canadian rockers can be proud of.

Recently Drowning Pool traveled to Washington DC, to deliver a petition to support the Lane Evans Mental Health Reform Bill. The petition was meant to encourage congress to fast track the bill to a vote, so that the troops returning home from battle can get the care they desperately need. While in Washington the band met with Presidential candidate Barack Obama to educate him on the bill and to get his support. Check out the video of Drowning Pool in Washington, DC with Obama here: http://www.ivpnewmedia.com/10thst/dpvideo/pc.htm
The band had a bunch of leftover songs in the Godsmack writing sessions and thus Another Animal was born.
Another Animal also features the perilous pipes of former Ugly Kid Joe singer, Whitfield Crane.
It has been quite a while since I have heard Whitfield Crane sing, and I must admit that after hearing this CD, it made me want to seek out the W.C. discology. Whitfield’s voice is in top form here.
Broken Again is the first single off of this record, and if you have checked it out at the previous article at the Hard Rock Hideout, then you already know it is killer stuff. Chances are if you like the song Broken, Again you are going to love this CD.
Some of my other favorite cuts off this record are Left Behind, Black Coffee Blues and Fade Away. Fade Away is the least heavy song on this record, but Whit Crane’s voice really shines on this tune. This is going to be a massive hit for the band with a little bit of luck.
If you are a Godsmack fan, you are going to enjoy this disc. Fans of Whitfield Crane out to check this disc out as well!

Another Animal’s self titled debut album is in stores today. The album features the single “Broken Again.” This is the first record for Another Animal, but not for the members of the band. Whit Crane from Ugly Kid Joe joins Tony Rombola, Lee Richards, Robbie Merrill and Shannon Larkin from Godsmack to become Another Animal. When Shannon and the guys from Godsmack needed a singer for their new band, he called on his old friend Whit Crane to step in. Shannon and Whit had previously played together on Ugly Kid Joe’s album Menace to Sobriety.
Another Animal’s name is a perfect description for what the new band has become. By incorporating elements of hard rock, metal, punk, and grunge, Another Animal is an eclectic tribute to the sounds the members grew up with. “It was so organic and fun to do,” says Rombola. “It was a great experience because there were no preconceptions. We just did what we felt like in order to create some really cool songs without worrying about what audience it was for.”
With the new record in stores today and the first show of their US tour kicking off tonight, Another Animal are playing the music they love and enjoying the ride. For more information on the tour or to check out the bands single, “Broken Again,” go to the Another Animal Myspace page. www.myspace.com/anotheranimalxxx
The new record is on sale at Best Buy this week for the paltry sum of $7.99. GO GET IT!! Hard Rock Hideout will posting a review of the new disc tomorrow!
The Cult returns in 2007 with a different band lineup. That really shouldn’t surprise anyone. The Cult has more former members than Bang Camaro has singers.
The Cult in 2007 is Ian Astbury vocals, Billy Duffy on lead guitar, John Tempesta on drums, Mike Dimkitch on rhythm guitar, and Chris Wyse on bass guitar.
Personally, I am glad to get some new hard rock tunes by the Cult in 2007. It has been far too long since 2001’s Beyond Good and Evil. There are quite a few stand out tracks on Born Into This including the title track Born Into This, Dirty Little Rockstar, I Assassin, Illuminated and Savages.
Ian Astbury’s vocals are as strong as ever, and Billy Duffy’s playing on this record is excellent.

LILLIAN AXE TO SUPPORT SHOCK ROCK LEGEND ALICE COOPER – IN SUPPORT OF NEW ACCLAIMED RELEASE, ‘WATERS RISING’
Think of ‘theatrical rock legend,’ and Alice Cooper immediately comes to mind for many. And the shock rock godfather couldn’t have picked a more deserving band to support him on a string of upcoming southern dates – Lillian Axe. After an extended hiatus, the group – which is
comprised of Derrick LeFevre (lead vocals), Steve Blaze (lead guitars/vocals), Sam Poitevent (guitars/vocals), Eric Morris (bass), and Ken Koudelka (drums) – recently unleashed their first new studio album in nearly fifteen years (and first for the Metro City Records label),
Originally formed in 1983, the New Orleans-based group soon caught the attention of Ratt manager Marshall Berle and MCA Records, leading to the release of the group’s self-titled 1988 release (produced by late Ratt guitarist Robbin Crosby), 1989’s ‘Love and War’ (produced by Tony
Platt, who previously worked with AC/DC), 1991’s ‘Out of the Darkness Into the Light,,’ 1992’s ‘Poetic Justice,’ and 1993’s ‘Psycho-Schizophrenia’ (the last two of which were produced by Leif Mases, who previously worked with Led Zeppelin). Additionally, such Lillian Axe tracks as “Dream of a Lifetime,” “Show A Little Love,” “True Believer,” and a cover of Badfinger’s “No Matter What” received attention from rock radio and MTV.
By the middle of the ‘90s, Lillian Axe opted to take a break, although a collection of previously unreleased material was issued in 1999, ‘Fields of Yesterday.’ With metal once more ruling the charts and the airwaves by the early 21st century, Lillian Axe was back in business with live shows, resulting in the release of their first-ever live album, ‘Live 2002,’ recorded in Houston, Texas. Roadwork has continued for the band – including playing to 27,000 fans at Germany’s Bang Your Head Festival in 2004, as well as an extensive European tour a year later. With new singer LeFevre recently replacing longtime frontman Ron Taylor, ‘Waters Rising’ sees a whole new metallic chapter
unfolding for Lillian Axe.
Despite the long break between studio albums, ‘Waters Rising’ has been steadily receiving its share of accolades, including a write-up by All Music Guide, which raves “If ‘Waters Rising’ were released in the late 80s, there’s little doubt that its video clips would have done battle – and held their own – alongside Iron Maiden and Queensrÿche on
Headbangers Ball.” Additionally, KNAC.com gave the album a four and a half star rating, saying “[Steve Blaze] is the visionary of what he wants the band to be, and as long as he’s a part of any musical endeavor, you KNOW to expect nothing but the best!”
Dates for the Alice Cooper/Lillian Axe tour:
10/20 Birmingham, AL Alabama Theatre
10/21 Mobile, AL Saenger Theatre
10/22 Houston, TX Verizon Wireless Theatre
10/23 Dallas, TX Majestic Theatre
Nick Oliveri is no stranger to Ozzfest. He first took the stage in Ozzfest as the bassist for Queens of the Stone Age.
On Dead Planet, Nick handles the lead vocals and bass playing. Nick Oliveri’s razor sharp voice is one that takes a couple of listens to get used to, but I find his sound refreshingly different from so many of the singers that I have listened to as of late.
Mondo Generator has a punk/metal sound that I describe as Motorhead meets Velvet Revolver. The music on Dead Planet is extremely tight. The dual guitars of Ian Taylor and Spud are far better than I could have imagined.
Dead Planet gives you a wide selection of tunes. 17 songs averaging about 3 minutes in length. The cool thing about the short song length on Dead Planet is, if you find a song not to your liking, chances are 3 minutes later you will.
Stand out tracks are All The Way Down, Lie Detector, So High, Take Me Away, and Paper Thin.
I had no expectations when I first listened to this CD, and surprisingly liked this one a lot. If you are a fan of Nick’s former work in Queens of the Stone Age, get Dead Planet, you will love it. If you like the video above, for Lie Detector above, check out Mondo Generator, I think you will like them! You can hear more tracks at the band’s myspace page here.

The Rock of Love finale was earlier this evening. Poison front man Bret Michaels made the decision between Heather and Jes.
Who did he Pick?
The winner is Jes. At the last minute, Bret sent Heather packing. Jes seemed to be the popular choice based on people’s comments at the Hard Rock Hideout. I am sure there are quite a few people happy in TV land tonight!
Next week, VH1 will Air the Rock of Love Reunion show!
