So far my live music experiences in 2008, have been nothing short of a debacle. I was hoping that Sunday night would turn that trend around. It wasn’t a particularly good night, to start with, as my Green Bay Packers got beat by the New York Giants in their effort to move on to the Superbowl.
Before the game ended, I headed to the Deadwood Saloon to check out Chavis recording Artist, Asphalt Valentine. The band seems to have a good start going for them in 2008. They were recently signed to Chavis Records. They will be on the road touring in support of their new record heavily this year. Their single, Strip Rock Roll is starting to hit the airwaves across the U.S. I really looked forward to this show, to see what this band was about.
Singer Joe Flynt, apparently had a touch of Bronchitis, and his vocals on Sunday night were inaudible. After the first song started, the sound guy was scrambling to find out what was wrong with the microphone and amp, but Joe wasn’t able to sing loud enough for anyone to hear him. The rest of the band rocked pretty hard, but without being able to hear the vocals, it was too hard to discern how good Asphalt Valentine really was.
I am not sure why a band would choose to honor a live date when a member of the band is ill, but with Asphalt Valentine starting to tour on the national circuit, they probably don’t want to acquire a bad reputation. I hope they will make good on their promise to return, so I can truly hear what they sound like, in their top form.
