1 Video – Warrant – Bourbon County Line

Former Black N’ Blue front man, Jamie St. James replaced Jani Lane as singer of Warrant in 2006. The band released one album, with St. James, Born Again. This appears to be the last recording with Jamie, as all of the current news points to a Warrant reunion (to be announced on March 4th) with Jani Lane.
3 Quiet Riot – S/T (Release Year – 1988)
Back in 1988, Kevin Dubrow got fired from Quiet Riot. Carlos Cavazo, and Frankie Banali carried on with former Rough Cutt singer Paul Shortino.
If Quiet Riot had any momentum left in the 80’s, this CD probably killed it. Paul Shortino’s singing style was a radical departure from the metal screams of Dubrow. Shortino is more of a bluesy style of singer. His vocals on this self titled album are actually pretty good, as they were on the Rough Cutt records.
This disc is certainly heavier than the previous album with
Dubrow, QRIII. This album is less keyboard centric, and more of a guitar rock album.
Some of my favorite cuts are Stay With Me Tonight, King of the Hill, and The Joker.
In 2008, this album is solid enough to stand on its own. It will never be my favorite Quiet Riot album, but I am still able to play this one, and get a little enjoyment out of it. If you can get over the fact that this is a Quiet Riot album, you might actually like this.
This disc is out of print, but you can still find copies on Amazon.com and Ebay.

0 SiX Frontman Breaks Down New Album
SiX Frontman Lauren Boquette (ex-Drown, Famous) Breaks Down New Album Lyrics Track By Track
New Album “Between the Warning and the War” Features Members of Suicidal Tendencies And Static-X
SiX frontman Lauren Boquette, formerly of alt-metal act DROWN and Famous who opened the Tattoo The Earth Festival for Slayer and Slipknot, has discussed his group’s recently released third album, “Between The Warning and the War“, and given the following track-by-track analysis of the album:
1.The Day I Died - In relationships you can try and try to make things right, but in the end sometimes that just isn’t enough. This song is about that end and when there’s no choice but to walk away. The old part of me that loved her had to die so that a new me and a new chapter of my life could be born. It is my rebirth out of a very turbulent time. Thanks to Tony Campos from Static X for playing bass on this one.
2. A Guide To Living Alone – Growing up the way I did, it’s really easy to feel alienated and alone in the world. I did feel that way for a very long time, but then I realized there are a lot of us out here and we are not alone. I wrote this one as sort of an anthem for the ones who understand.
3. The Beautiful Things – I was in a relationship for quite a few years that ended painfully. Unfortunately, when these things happen part of our love and our faith in love dies. This song is about the end of love.
4. Forgiveness – Once again a song about growing up the way I did. It sucked to go through, but it taught me about the dark and painful side of life. It bothered me for quite a while, but now I wear my “misfit” badge proudly and I know that’s all behind me now. We really can forgive, forget and move on, if we want to. Thanks to Mike Clark from Suicidal Tendencies for blessing this track with the sickest guitar solo modern metal has heard in a long time!
5. Perfect Life - A remake of a song I wrote in 2000 when I was doing the Famous project. We all seem to want more or wish we could be something or someone else. We don’t realize the power to do anything we want is in our own hands. Stop blaming anyone or making excuses for why your life isn’t what you want it to be. Just get off your ass and make it happen.
6. Inside Out – When you’ve held in enough, for long enough. When your inner voice comes out and you finally let them know what’s really on your mind.
7. Warning – Where I come from the underground music scene is a lifestyle not a trend. This song goes out to the bands and people that just jump on what’s popular because it’s the cool thing to do at the moment. Quit all the frontin’ people and just be who you are. Another song killed on bass by Tony Campos (Static X)
8. Broken Girl - I’ve known a lot of girls that have gone through a lot of intense and painful things, my own sister included. I’m tired of the most beautiful creatures on this earth turning to drugs, hatred and bitterness just to deal with the pain. This one goes out to the broken girls worldwide. You’ll be ok, just keep your head up.
9. Throwing Away the World – Reworked from an unreleased song that I originally wrote for my old band Drown. It’s about the willingness to detach from people whenever necessary.
10. Had Enough – Look around at the society we’ve created for ourselves, the title says it all,
11. Circles – I was living in Irvine, CA amongst the yuppies and track homes. I realized that in that world, people constantly run around in circles trying to impress and keep up with each other. It’s a weird way to live, but one day on the freeway a yuppie in a BMW looked at me driving our bands van as if he was better than me. I laughed at him, went home and wrote this song.
12. Just Outside Of Barstow – Barstow, CA is a town most people drive through on their way to Vegas. We discovered it to be a place to be full of amazing shows, great people and some strange characters. In a weird way it’s sort of our home away from home. This song is about living on the road as a touring band and the crazy life that comes with it.
13. 5AM – Late nights, beautiful girls, too much booze and a need to purify. Some people go to church; I find heaven in the darkness somewhere around 5am.
9 Video – Vinnie Vincent Invasion – Boyz Are Gonna Rock

On the Vinnie Vincent Invasion video below, Mark Slaughter does his best Robert Fleischman imitation, as he lip syncs to Robert’s vocals on the tune, Boyz are Gonna Rock. Mark Slaughter joined the band after the first album was recorded.
3 Dream Theater – Images and Words (Release Year – 1992)
I still remember the day when I heard Pull Me Under on the radio for the first time. I was out of town for business in Detroit. The DJ didn’t say who it was, but I was immediately blown away. I had to know who this was, and quickly.
Images and Words was the release that opened up the world of progressive metal for this listener. At the time of this album’s release, glam metal was on the decline. Progressive metal offered listeners something new, and Images and Words, quickly put Dream Theater on top of the progressive metal scene.
Images and Words is Dream Theater’s second release, and the first for singer James Labrie. The first CD, When Dream and Day Unite, didn’t take off, and the band’s singer Charlie Dominici was fired. The band didn’t start gaining success until James Labrie joined the group.
I did not start paying attention to this genre of metal until I heard this album. Images
and Words offers a somewhat unique style that was certainly ground breaking to me, and many others. The musicianship on this record is nothing short of stellar. John Petrucci showcases his awesome guitar skills, and Mike Portnoy proves to be one of the best drummers out there. James Labrie’s great voice ties it all together for one nice package.
There are a few songs that blend well with mainstream metal including Pull Me Under, Another Day, and Take the Time. It isn’t until later in the album where you find gems like Metropolis Part 1, a nine minute monster of a song that seems to fly by. Dream Theater can craft heavy tunes, and turn on a dime, and create music that is AOR quality. They back up their tunes with incredible live performances. For this listener, Images and Words is still an extraordinary listening experience. This release is essential for all progressive rock and metal fans.

14 MÖTLEY CRÜE World Tour Will Kick Off July 4
MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee has revealed that the band’s world tour will kick off on July 4. The trek is expected to coincide with the release of the group’s ninth studio album, titled “The Dirt”, which is tentatively due on July 8. A yet-to-be-named single will arrive at radio stations on May 7.
The record is based on the band’s 2001 memoir of the same name and will be its first all-new studio effort since 2000’s “New Tattoo”. 1997’s “Generation Swine” was the last to feature the group’s original lineup, which reunited for a successful world tour in 2005.
Although it was reported last fall that drummer Tommy Lee had again quit the CRÜE over legal issues, he and the group have apparently reconciled.
“Nope! I never quit! Silly rumors! We’re all together!” Tommy wrote in a February 25, 2008 online posting. “We’re goin’ on a world tour starting July 4th!!”
Bassist Nikki Sixx wrote in a recent online update, “10 songs done for the new CRÜE album so far, I’m very proud of the songs. I think we’re onto some of the better songs we’ve had in years…Time will tell, of course. A couple of song titles on the CRÜE album are called ‘A Scar On Hollywood Boulevard’ and ‘The Saints Of Los Angeles’… The chemistry in the studio as we’re writing is unbelievable.”
The CRÜE recently denied a post at Robin Leach’s Las Vegas gossip blog which suggested that the band had signed a three-album, three-tour deal with Live Nation for $100 million. Although the source of the rumor was reportedly singer Vince Neil, bassist Nikki Sixx said in a statement, “MÖTLEY CRÜE has not signed any deals to tour or record whatsoever. Any information to the contrary is 100 percent incorrect.”
0 EDEN Signs With Z RECORDS

Z Records has announced the signing of EDEN to a worldwide deal. The UK outfit, which features Nick Workman (KICK) and Vince O’Regan (BOB CATLEY), has produced a solid melodic hard rock album which bears no resemblance to band’s previous outing, “Open Minds”. According to a press release, EDEN has progressed and produced an album, entitled “Oblivion”, which features influences from WHITESNAKE, LED ZEPPELIN and QUEENSRŸCHE, to name but a few.
Vocalist Nick Workman commented: “EDEN are very happy to forge a partnership with Z Rock Records. With EDEN being a gigging band and not just studio-based, it made perfect sense to sign to a label that supports its bands on the live front. This album is very different from our first album, ‘Open Minds’, in that it has a more melodic approach but still maintains the grooves and edge. When we wrote that first album, me and Vince had only just hooked up so it was all new. This time round we had more time to work on the songs.”
Vince O’Regan, EDEN’s guitarist, had this to say: “Having had negative comments regarding albums that I had recently recorded, me and Nick decided to hand over mixing duties to someone else. Nick is good friends with Steve Newman and Steve was more than happy to take it on and he has done a fantastic job and given us a huge-sounding album.”
“Oblivion” will be released April 28.

1 Video – Black Sabbath – Computer God (Live)

Ronnie James Dio has to go the head of the class, when it comes to being That Other Guy!
In the case of Dio, his vocals improved the sound of Black Sabbath when he joined the band in 1979! I am looking forward to the band’s new release in 2008, with RJD on vocals.
The video below is from the 2007 Heaven and Hell tour, featuring Ronnie James Dio, Vinny Appice, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler.
0 Judas Priest – Jugulator (Release Year – 1997)
When Judas Priest announced former Judas Priest Cover Band, British Steel singer, Tim “Ripper” Owens as the new singer in 1996, I had high hopes the band would beable to maintain the same level of intensity the band had on the Painkiller disc.
The first time I heard the Jugulator disc, I was completely let down. Owens came off like a bad Halford clone. I thought maybe the band has been too far removed from the recording process to recapture their classic metal sound. It was 7 years since Painkiller was released after all.
I haven’t played Jugulator for quite a while, but a couple of songs off this disc have made their way onto the Boneyard playlist on XM Radio. Strangely enough, the songs started growing on me. I decided to give this album another chance. I may have been a little too quick to write this one off.
Looking at the track listing, one must quickly garner that the band is quite angry on this release. The subject matter is certainly heavy and on the depressing side. Is their a rule that says that a metal band has to write all doom and gloom tunes? Judas Priest has quite a few upbeat, catchy tunes in their repertoire. You won’t find may of those on Jugulator.
A quick run down of the tracks:
Jugulator is high speed sonic attack that at times almost ventures into the Power Metal category. Owens is quick to establish that he has a multi-faceted voice, but this song does nothing to excite me. Whoever mixed this album picked the wrong song to open up this album.
Blood Stained is a much better tune. I actually like this one a lot. It is a little different from the classic Priest sound, but I like Owens growly vocals on this one. Judas Priest should have done more songs like this one on Jugulator.
Dead Meat is a heavy tune that resembles the Painkiller sound somewhat. The one thing that is missing from this song, is a catchy chorus. This song just doesn’t work for me.
On Death Row, Ripper tends to scream more than he sings. It is a heavy driving tune, and the chorus is a little better on this one, but it takes a little too long to get it. The lyrics are a little cheesy but it is a tune that has grown on me.
Decapitate doesn’t have a whole lot of redeeming qualities. This tune comes across as a moody, noisy metal track. I find this one, a hard song to listen too.
After the migraine causing Decapitate (no pun intended) Burn in Hell is a move in the right direction. The band slows the rhythm down long enough for the listeners to catch their breath, and then blast off into what is one of Judas Priest’s better songs with Ripper Owens.
Unfortunately, I felt the migraine returning with Brain Dead (maybe it has something to do with head related songs). This is more metal noise with little replay value.
Abductors is more of a mid tempo metal song. It isn’t a
great song, but it is better than many of those that came before it.
I had high hopes for the song Bullet Train. After all, this seems like a cool subject matter to write a good metal song about. Sadly, once again, this is another tune that does not deliver. Chalk this one up to poor song writing.
Does any one really need a nine minute song? Their are some rare exceptions to this rule, but Cathedral Spires is not one of them. Judas Priest should have learned their lesson with this extremely lengthy metal migraine. Sadly, they went on to do another 9 minute stinker Lochness on Angel of Retribution.
As a whole, my first reaction to Jugulator was the right one. There are two or three songs with redeeming qualities, but this does not make a good CD. Ripper Owens debut with Judas Priest was a flawed one for sure. It may not be completely his fault. Very few vocalists can overcome a poorly written song, and Ripper just didn’t have the
experience to save most of those badly crafted tunes. After listening to Jugulator, I am glad that Rob Halford is back with the band. I am going to go take some Excedrin now!
Jugulator is a disc that will appeal to die hard metal fans, and those wanting to complete their Judas Priest collections only.

1 An Unexpected Pairing…..Ripper Owens and….
Former JUDAS PRIEST/ICED EARTH singer Tim “Ripper” Owens has now officially joined YNGWIE MALMSTEEN’s band. The legendary Swedish guitarist announced the news to the Guitar World staff today when he came to the magazine’s New York headquarters for an exclusive interview and photo shoot.
Malmsteen and Owens are hard at work on a new CD, which is currently scheduled for a July release.
Owens and Malmsteen previously collaborated on a cover of OZZY OSBOURNE’s “Mr. Crowley”, which appeared on the “Flying High Again: The World’s Greatest Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne”, released in March 2006 via Magick Records.

1 Joan Jett Leads All-Star Chorus Supporting Jimmy Kimmel Video
Legendary Rocker Sings Unprintable Lyrics, Offers To Sing At Wedding
Perhaps you’ve heard the musical news that Jimmy Kimmel is “f*cking Ben Affleck.” He told the world on his post-Oscars show Sunday in a video available below!
Front and center (and first) in the “We Are the World”-style
vocal session contained in the video is legendary rocker Joan Jett, who sings in a loud and proud solo that “you can’t stop this love affair,” then lets loose with a barrage of pelvic thrusts and bleeped lyrics. The video also stars, among others, Robin Williams, Cameron Diaz, Don Cheadle, Rebecca Romijn, Pete Wentz, Macy Gray, Joel and Benji Madden, Lance Bass, Huey Lewis, Meat Loaf, Christina Applegate, Dominic Monaghan, Brad Pitt, Harrison Ford, Josh Groban (possibly the only time Jett and Groban are likely to appear together on a stage) and, of course, Kimmel and Affleck.
The video was created in response to Kimmel’s girlfriend Sarah Silverman’s similar assertion that she was “f*cking Matt Damon,” which as of Sunday had garnered more than 8 million YouTube views, and Jett was one of the first to agree to participate.
“I support all people’s rights to love whomever they choose,” said Jett, who will be releasing a greatest hits album and DVD this August. “If Jimmy and Ben can find lasting happiness together, I’d be glad to sing at their wedding. Good thing Ben’s from Massachusetts.”
1 Video – Asphalt Ballet – Angry Youth

In 1993, Asphalt Ballet was pushed by their record label into adapting a more grunge style and look, in order to stay current. Gary Jeffries left the band. He wasn’t interested in the new modern sound or look. New singer Tommy Dean was brought on board, and the band’s second album, Pigs was recorded. The album tanked, but I thought it was kind of cool.
The video below, Angry Youth, is a track off of the Pigs album.
1 Rock on T.V. – 2/27/08 – Bullet For My Valentine

Bullet For My Valentine will make their U.S. network TV debut on Wednesday, February 27 when the group rocks ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” The band will play the title track of its brand new album, Scream Aim Fire, as well as “Tears Don’t Fail” from the The Poison.
“Jimmy Kimmel Live” airs at 12:05 a.m. ET/11:05 p.m. CT.
9 Motley Crue – S/T (Release Year – 1994)
The successor to Motley Crue’s Dr. Feelgood, the self titled album in 1994, is the only Motley Crue disc without Vince Neil on vocals. There are different stories on what happened with Vince Neil. Vince says he got fired, Nikki Sixx says he quit the band. Either way, John Corabi from The Scream joined the band, and provided the vocals for Motley Crue’s sixth studio album.
This album seemed doomed for failure from the very beginning. It was released in 1994, after the fall of hair metal, and this type of music was no longer trendy.
John Corabi’s vocals did add a new dimension to Motley Crue’s music, but it wasn’t enough to help push this disc. This record did chart at # 7 in the United States, but its stay near the top was short lived.
I recall when this album first came out, I was on the side of the fence that could not adjust
to John Corabi singing with Motley Crue. Several years later, I have found this CD much more to my liking.
I enjoyed Corabi’s singing in his previous band, The Scream. Today, I enjoy his vocals with Motley Crue as well. His raspy style of vocals, puts a new spin on the Crue’s music, and helps it sound fresh.
There are several strong cuts on this record. Some of my favorite tracks are Hooligan’s Holiday, Smoke the Sky, Poison Apples, and Misundersood.
Why is this CD worth exploring again in 2008? It was a new sound of sorts for Motley Crue. Less hair metal, and more straight forward rock. Corabi is a very good singer, and their are enough good tunes on this disc worthing giving it new spins today.

9 Van Halen – 5150 (Release Year – 1986)
I still the remember the day I heard the news when David Lee Roth quit Van Halen. I was in a state of disbelief when I first heard this news.
When Van Halen announced Sammy Hagar as their new singer, I had high hopes. Sammy Hagar is a better singer than David Lee Roth, and also has some very good guitar playing skills (although the band Van Halen hardly needs them).
5150 is the first Album with Sammy on vocals. With this release being 22 years old, it seems like an eternity ago. Listening to this album again today, I realize how big of a departure this CD was from the classic Van Halen sound.
5150 is more of a main stream pop rock record, than it is hard rock. Sammy’s vocals are
good, but this music is a lot more pop than their previous records. The tunes on this record rely on the keyboard far too heavily. Some may say that Van Halen’s sound matured, but I didn’t really care for this new direction.
I am a Sammy Hagar fan, but I can not deny, I prefer any of the David Lee Roth era of Van Halen albums to the tunes on 5150. I also prefer Sammy Hagar’s solo work to this record. Van Halen has had a ton of success with this record, and continues to sell copies of it today.
I don’t hate 5150, but I don’t love it either. When this album came out, I liked it fairly well, but today, I find this a lot harder to listen to. I believe some of their later work with Sammy Hagar was far better than this. The best cuts on 5150 are Good Enough, Best of Both Worlds, and Dreams.
Dust this record off, and let us know what you think of 5150!

3 The Heavy Hitters Tour 2008
The bad boys of Suburban Noize Records returned to the stage for The Heavy Hitters Tour 2008-headlining the show, (hed) p.e. and Kingspade also featuring Subnoize Souljaz and Insolence. An array of fans showed up for their show at the Gothic Theater in Denver, CO. A younger crowd, some with their faces painted, gathered for the show with intentions of partying and making a nice mosh pit. Stoners Reekin Havoc!
Dirtball and Big B of SubNoize Souljaz hit the stage and rocked the crowd with their songs “White Trash Renegade” and “Droppin Bombs”. These guys know how to party!
The Notorious duo Johnny Richter and D-Loc hit the stage as Kingspade, after a long microphone check by the Antihero TAXMAN. The guys took a break from their normal counter cultural music with the Kottonmouth Kings and instead took it back to their roots of Orange County. They still kept their political outlook and involve it in a lot of the songs, a killer mix of head bobbin hip-hop.The one that really got me dancing was DJ Bobby B, spinning for over a decade now. He kept the beats going throughout the night and works the vinyl like no other!
(hed) P.E. aka (hed) Planet Earth, deliver an intriguing mix of punk rock, hip hop, jazz, reggae, heavy metal, and thrash. As you watch vocalist Jared Gomes take over the stage with great energy, its hard to believe you are listening to the same band. Their performance was full of major attitude, which is heavily infectious. I found myself jamming to the beat a few songs in, which gets pretty heavy at times! Jared rants about politics and sell out bands in between songs, which I find keeps it interesting.
The set was pretty basic, which is unusual for most Suburban Noize concerts. The Kottonmouth Kings and Tech N9ne seem to always have an array of eye candy on stage. The night ended with a room full of sweaty enthusiasts, including Jared, who gets a definite work out on stage during his performance. Which I would call PSYCHOTIC !!
The Tour continues on until March 1st 2008, where it ends in Ventura, CA. Don’t miss out on the Suburban Noize 4/20 Xperience in Anaheim, CA 4-20-2008 featuring the Kottonmouth Kings w/ Hed PE, the Expendables, and the Dirtball!

10 Tesla – Mechanical Resonance (Release Year – 1986)
One of my favorite CD’s of all time is Tesla’s Mechanical Resonance. I remember the fateful day I picked the cassette (Remember those?) of Mechanical Resonance up, the day this was released. I got it from the now defunct Record and Tape Outlet (RTO) store. Once listen later, I was calling all of my friends, telling them that they needed to pick this one up pronto.
This disc was released when the whole glam metal scene was about to peak. Tesla often gets lumped together with many of the other bands in the hair metal era. I don’t think Geffen Records knew what to do with Tesla at the time, and were wrongly catagorized as a hair metal band.
Tesla was a never a band about hair spray, and glam clothes and makeup. They were,
and still are about great hard rock music. Mechanical Resonance is the band’s first offering into the rock world, and it is a damn good one. Twenty two years later and Mechanical Resonance always finds itself at the top of my play list.
Going over the track list, I can’t find one song, that I do not enjoy. Jeff Keith’s vocals always put a smile on my face. Frank Hannon and Tommy Skeoch are easily one of the best guitar tandems to come out of the 1980’s.
I have been fortunate enough to see this band perform these songs live several times, and I haven’t ever been disappointed. Mechanical Resonance is simply an incredible piece of rock, that no fan should be without.

10 New Motley Crue Record in July?!

The Pulse of Radio reports that MÖTLEY CRÜE has set a July 8 release date for its ninth studio album, titled “The Dirt”, according to sources close to the band.
1 Video – Crash Kelly – She Gets Away

Check out the Crash Kelly video, for the tune, She Gets Away. This song is on the band’s 2005 release Penny Pills.
4 Erotic Suicide – Abusement Park (Release Year – 1994)
A four piece sleaze metal band, Erotic Suicide from Oklahoma released their debut CD in 1994. Sleaze Metal
was already dealt its crushing blow from the release of grunge music. Rock music of the glam/sleaze genre released after 1993 is largely unknown by most hard rock fans.
Sadly, Abusement Park is one of the CD’s that was released way too late in the game. If this CD, was released 5 years earlier, this band could have easily been a household name in the hair metal scene.
Erotic Suicide has a sound that I describe as Faster
Pussycat meets Poison. It is a sound that was quite common in the late 80’s, and early 90’s. Although the band’s sound is nothing original, it is a disc that I still enjoy from time to time.
This CD is one of the more rare ones in my collection. Finding this one is virtually impossible
withough paying high dollars on EBay. Is it worth the hunt? If you like this style of music, it most certainly is. My favorite cuts on this disc are Can’t Remember, Goin Down and Sweet Summer Nights.
Check out the video below for Can’t Remember and decide for yourself! Happy Hunting!

3 Iron Maiden – DVD – Live After Death (2008)
My first choice for the Top Hard Rock DVD of 2008 so far is Iron Maiden’s Live After Death DVD.
In this two DVD set, you get one disc that is a full concert from the 1985 Powerslave tour. This was originally released on VHS several years ago, but I never got a copy of it. This new version, is released in 5.1 Surround Sound. This is the way to listen to Iron Maiden Show!!
The Concert Video is worth the price of admission by itself, but this is a two CD set and you get more.
Disc Two bring you the History of Iron Maiden, Part 2, (Part 1 was on the Early Years disc). You also get the Behind the Iron Curtain Documentary, and Live Footage from the 1985 Rock In Rio show.
All in all, this set is over three hours of Iron Maiden for you to enjoy. You will definitely want to replay these DVD’s over and over again.
Live After Death is a must own DVD release for all Iron Maiden Fans! Watching this DVD Set has me anxious for the 2008 tour. I can’t wait to see Iron Maiden Live again! Until then, I will be watching the Live After Death DVD’s.
