Whitecross – Nineteen Eighty Seven (2005)

Whitecross Before 2008, I have not heard any songs by Whitecross. I do not know how this band managed to slip by me. I do not usually pick up CCM releases, and that may be why. Nonetheless, I got a hold of the new Whitecross CD Reissue by Retroactive Records.

Nineteen eighty seven is a 2005 re-recording of the songs on the Whitecross debut record by Rex Carroll and Scott Wenzel. This reissue has a few outtakes thrown in as bonus tracks. The Bonus tracks are nice and the Re:Animate instrumental is cool, but the added tracks don’t really add to this releases. As far as Nineteen Eighty Seven goes, they don’t have to.

What does Whitecross sound like? Think Stryper meets RATT. Guitarist Rex Carroll sounds like a Warren DiMartini clone. His playing on this record is superb. Of course with this being a CCM release, some of the songs have a message, and some listeners may frown upon this, but I don’t.

Not all songs have to be about Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll (but that is o.k. too). I think hair metal fans that give this CD a chance will be greatly surprised by the quality of music here.

There are some very good tunes on this disc, including, Enough is Enough, He is the Rock, No Way I’m Goin’ Down. Check out the clip below and decide for yourself. I like this disc, and I think you will too.
