Joey Belladonna Cincinnati Concert Review
Joey Belladonna returned to Cincinnati’s Blue Note Sunday Night.
This metalfest featured eight bands on which Belladonna was the headliner. I arrived late, and caught the band’s Session 9’s set.
Session 9’s brand of Nu-Metal energized the small crowd, before Joey and Company took the stage.
Before the show, I ran into the man with a million faces, Seven Witches guitarist Jack Frost. I had no idea that Jack was playing in Joey Belladonna’s solo band, so I was quite happy knowing that a guitarist of his caliber was playing live with him. I also had the opportunity to meet Joey Belladonna, as did many others.
Belladonna took the stage a couple of minutes before midnight, and played a healthy dose of 80’s Anthrax tunes, and Belladonna solo material. The set list included the following tunes:
Madhouse, Antisocial, (Efilnikufesin) N.F.L., Time, Two-Faced, Caught In A Mosh, I Am the Law, Medusa, and Indians
The band was ultra tight all night, and Joey Belladonna’s voice was damn near perfect. Jack Frost was fun
to watch, and seemed to enjoy what he was doing. If you have ever seen him play before, you will already know, that you will see hundreds of different expressions on his face while he is playing. He is truly entertaining to watch.
RC Ciejek, was one of the most energetic bass players that I have seen in quite some time. Drummer Paul Marciano was kicking ass behind his massive drum kit! Belladonna made his best efforts to keep the audience fired up, and he succeeded. A mosh pit broke out for one of the songs, (This has to be the first time this has happened at the Blue Note in ages.) of course the Blue Note Bouncers put an end to that quickly.
It was a very small turn out for this excellent show. I don’t know where the metal heads were in Cincinnati Sunday night, but they weren’t at the Blue Note. They missed a great show, and a chance to meet a metal legend!
There are plenty of dates left on this tour! Don’t miss them when they come to your town!

In response to Evan Hmel’s comment above – Zilch was not horrible by any means! The sound system there was bad & it was not Zilch’s normal equipment that they normally play with. I know the band but am not close freinds with them or anything. They joked weeks before the show about the fact that they probably couldn’t play “Only” from Anthrax since it was a Bush cover – a song they normally play on any given gig. But in fact that night before the show it was brought up that the only Anthrax song they knew was “Only” and Joey said that would be cool for them to play it & there would be no hard feelings. Now there’s stand up guy! Try that with some other former members of other bands that have replacements & it won’t fly! Just due to sheer immaturity among others… So Zilch played the song in a round about tribute to Joey & the fans reacted huge to the song – biggest audience participation of the night before Joey! So apparenently Evan you were in a drunken stupor in some tiny corner of the Lighthouse. Oh, and the caps lock key is on the far left side – middle of your keyboard.
[...] are a few more videos posted at the site from the Belladonna show, as well as other bands like Tesla, Jackyl, etc. Be sure to check out Hard Rock Hideout [...]

I saw Joey about four years ago. There were maybe 30 people in the audience including club staff and members of the opening bands who stayed around for Joey’s set. He put on a great show though and he was playing drums and singing at that time.
I’m going to watch these videos as soon as my ears stop ringing from Endeverafter/Airbourne…LOL
I agree 100% with the performance review.. Belladonna undoubtedly kicked serious ASS!!! We were front row i n front of Jack Frost all night and He was spectacular… fusing the 2 guitars of Scott Ian and Dan Spitz with ease. He was as entertaining to watch as being up close and personal with Joey Himself. Not to take anything away at all from RC’s killer Bass and Paul Marciano killin the drums.. All around awesome show! Some songs forgotten on the set list above were Blunt Man, Power Trip, Rob you Blind, Perfection
THERE IS ALSO A SHOW ON MAY 7 AT DOUG’S PLACE IN AURORA, IL FYI
ZILCH WAS HORRIBLE IN IMPERIAL, PA. THEY PLAYED A JOHN BUSH ANTHRAX SONG AND IT WAS INSULTING AND IN BAD TASTE WHILE OPENING UP FOR BELLADONNA. THE POSTER ABOVE IS PROBABLY FROM THE BAND. IT WAS IN VERY BAD TASTE PERFORMING “ONLY” WHILE JOEY BELLADONNA SAT AT A TABLE AND WATCHED. BELLADONNA SHOULD HAVE SAID SOMETHING TO THOSE GUYS BUT THE MAN HAS CLASS AND JUST RUBBED IT OFF HIS SHOULDERS. THE FANS LET THE BAND KNOW IT THOUGH.
Saw Joey 2 nights before the Cincy show in Imperial, PA and they rocked the house! Joey’s voice seemed flawless compared to his most recent reunion with Anthrax where it broke up a bit. He hung out the whole night with fans & even watched the 2 opening bands! RC & Paul hung out with him as well! Jack Frost was a little more private but hung out after the show & was also very cool to talk with! All members were more than happy to sign autographs! What a small venue the Lighthouse was but a definate treat for the fans to see Joey in such a tiny bar! Bouncers were your typical bouncers looking for anyone to drag out the front door if you started to mosh. DJ / Announcer was a Ricky Rachtman wannabe and looked like Udo Dirkschneider! lol – what a tool! Zilch was one of the 2 opening bands… might I add much better than the other opening band Ashes to Ashes who have seen better days. Zilch is nuthing but METAL… they were worth the price of admission alone! Can’t say enough good things about this up & coming band! Check them out at http://www.zilchmetal.com
I am the promoter for the Minneapolis, MN tour stop on 5/5. This is a fantastic review! I’ve seen Joey Belladonna twice before on his own and he is just as amazing as he was with Anthrax. I hope everyone will make a special effort to see this show!
We (Piranah) are opening for Joey in Nashville on 4/30. Check us out at http://www.myspace.com/piranahrocks
Later,
