Video – Twisted Sister – Leader of the Pack

Bad Career Move? Twisted Sister’s cover song of the Shangri-Las #1 hit from 1964, Leader of the Pack, was certainly one of the worst cover song/videos of the 80’s.
Check it out below.
The original version wasn’t much better…….

I’ll give you that Twisted Sister’s cover was awful, but the Shangri-Las original is fantastic. This video from the Steve Allen show is silly (much like Elvis singing to the hound dog a few years earlier), but that was just the era. The Shangri-Las also recorded “Remember (Walking in the Sand)” which was later covered by Aerosmith.
Twisted Sister had been doing Leader Of The Pack since probably about 1980. If you can dig up their 1982 EP called rough Cuts you can hear their first studio version of the song. Back then, they really played up the irony that they were a bunch of big tough guys from Long Island singing a girl group song, and it was actually pretty funny. the problem was that when they resurrected the song for the come Out And Play album they played the whole thing too seriously and it was a big swing and a miss!
Never cared for the original or ‘Sister’s cover.
Interesting Bob. I didn’t know about that ‘EP. I would like to hear their earlier version of this.
Is this part of the “Sink Or Swim” saga?
Gonna hafta sink this one….before someone’s ears get hurt! LOL
I just want to know what woman talked Twisted Sister into doing this track and convincing them this was a cool idea?
Hey Rob. I’d be happy to email you a copy of the original Twisted Sister version of leader of the Pack, as well as a live recording of the song from their early days. Is there somewhere I can send it to?
