58 – Diet For A New America (Release Year – 2000)

Before Sixx A.M. ever saw the light of day, Nikki Sixx had another side project called 58. The name of this group came from Nikki’s year of birth. The band members also had Sixx’s former father-in-law, Dave Darling, session drummer Bucket Baker, and Steve (Son of Barry) Gibb.

Those of you looking for something Motley Crue like, or even Sixx A.M.- like for that matter, you wont know what to think about 58.

One quick look at the song titles and it isn’t too hard to figure out who wrote the majority of the material on this record. Sixx and Darling penned most of the material on Diet For A New America.

Quite honestly, this is more of the type of release I would expect from Tommy Lee, than Nikki Sixx. This music is a radical departure from the hard rock tunes that I am used to hearing Nikki Sixx play on.

I am not a fan of this style of music, but I hear little bits and pieces of Nine Inch Nails type of industrial rock fused with an odd mixture of alternative, and pop music.

This CD is an interesting listening experience, but would likely serve fans of alternative music more so than the hard rocking fans of Motley Crue.

You can pick copies of this disc up from Amazon.com for very little money. Die hard Sixx fans may want to check this out. All others will probably want to avoid this disc.

You know, it’s kind of funny how hard it is to find this album…even Hip-O records, who supposedly produced it (according to Nikki Sixx’s site) says it doesn’t exist…like a phantom in the musical world haha.

I’m a HUGE Nikki Sixx fan and Motley Crue fan, and I had no idea this even existed. It’s a good thing I read your blog! 😉 Thanks for the info! I’m definitely going to check it out…even if I’ll probably end up hating it. Haha!
