The classic rock band Yes, which was forced to cancel their 40th anniversary tour this year due to the illness of its lead singer, has decided to relaunch the tour with an “understudy” — a Yes tribute band singer.
Benoit David, who sings in several Yes tribute bands in Montreal, will replace Jon Anderson on the “In the Present” tour, which kicks of Nov. 4 in Ontario, Canada, according to bassist Chris Squire. “I think it’s all going to work out fine,” Squire told The Associated Press on Wednesday. “Of course, realistically, there’s an element of risk, but there always is.”
Yes, which consists of Squire, Anderson, guitarist Steve Howe and drummer Alan White, scrapped their anniversary tour in June after Anderson suffered acute respiratory failure and was ordered by doctors to rest six months.
Squire found David on the Internet after a friend sent him a YouTube clip of David’s tribute band, Close To The Edge. Squire liked what he saw and called David to offer an audition.
“The first thing he said to me was, ‘Well, I’m looking around to see where the cameras are in case I’m being punked,’” Squire said. Yes has taken a page from another classic rock group, Journey, who selected Arnel Pineda, a sound-a-like of old lead singer Steve Perry, to be their singer after the group discovered him singing Journey songs on YouTube. Pineda sang on the group’s successful comeback album this year and has also been touring with them.
It’s not the first time Yes has had a singer besides Anderson. Trevor Horn sang on the 1980 Yes album “Drama” when Anderson briefly left the band. Squire hopes to work songs from that album into the set for the upcoming tour, plus a few songs he said were not Anderson’s favorites to perform live but the rest of the band likes.
“You can’t ever really replace Jon Anderson, because he’s been such a force in the music business,” Squire said. “We look upon his replacement as more of an understudy.” Squire said he is hopeful Anderson will be well enough to do shows next year.
Yes’ hits include “I’ve Seen All Good People” and “Owner of a Lonely Heart.”
The majority of the hard rock loving public are probably not aware their was a band called Sleeze Beez. Hair metal fans know them, (most of them love this band) but very few are aware that Sleeze Beez put out a fourth studio album in 1994.
The hair metal scene was on life support by this time, and new releases such as this one, got very little, if any mentions in the press.
The tunes on Insanity Beach have a much harder edge than the Sleeze Beez previous releases.
Many hard rock acts from the late 80′s and early 90′s tried to update their sound in an effort to keep going. The change in the Sleeze Beez sound isn’t quite as drastic as the updated sounds from Warrant, Shotgun Messiah, or Asphalt Ballet. It may be a harder approach, but its very listenable.
My favorite cuts on this disc are “Human Zoo“, “Sacrifice“, and the title track “Insanity Beach“. While I don’t think this CD is as good as Screwed, Blued & Tattooed, it is better than previous effort, Powertool.
This disc has been out of print for a while, but you can still find copies of it on eBay. Happy Hunting!

I stumbled on this band, Black Mountain, by complete accident. I thought their song “Wucan” was interesting enough. Let me know what you think about this. Should it SINK or SWIM?

After this, Patrick Fuchs (vocals) and Carsten Kettering (bass) concentrated on recording the debut CD of Ross The Boss. Now it’s time to focus on both bands and IVORY NIGHT will start recording their new CD very soon with an expected release in the first quarter of 2009.
“Pub Rock” must be an entirely Australian term because the only time I have heard it used is in describing Australian bands. AC/DC, Rose Tattoo, the Angels (aka Angel City), Jet, and Airbourne are just a few of the known “Pub Rock” bands. So being a fan of all five bands I was looking forward to listening to what newcomers Fallen Silver had to offer and needless to say this 5 piece band from Sydney did not disappoint in the least bit.
It all kicks off with “East L.A.” which has a great bass line from Mick Garside and while you can definitely hear an AC/DC influence both this song and the second song “Loaded Gun” automatically made me think of Johnny Crash. I can’t compare singer Matt Chambers to Vicki James Wright but the songs lyrics and groove made me want to hear “Neighbourhood Threat”. I can’t forget guitarist Doug Nekic, he delivers two smokin’ solos for these songs.
Not to stand on AC/DC’s influence alone. The title track “Blood In Blue Eyes” starts out acoustically with Chambers trying to channel a little Robert Plant before the song kicks in to a Bad Company feel. Really how can you go wrong when one song makes a person think of both Led Zeppelin and Bad Company.
Mick Garside shines in the spotlight again on “Fire Walk With Me” with more great bass lines, while the song has a more alternative feel it took me a while to get into it but after a few listens I found myself loving it.
Snake Eyes and Sunset are the other two tracks that really stood out to me more great blues based rock and the album closes the same way it opened with guns blazing on the track “Pissin’ on the Poor Man“.
Without a doubt Mick Garside and Doug Nekic are the stars of this album with great playing from start to finish. Drummer John Duffy and rhythm guitarist Tony Vulic are also solid throughout the album. In all honesty it took me a while to get used to Matt Chambers voice but once I did. I saw how well it fit with the songs.
If you want flashy pretty boys prancing around Fallen Silver is not for you. But if you want sweaty, beer and cigarettes blue collar rock-n-roll they definitely deliver that and more.

Forged in the furnace of the European rock scene, BADMOUTH has captured the attention of fans around the world, and the eye of industry pros even before the release of their first album. The guys wanted to write rock tunes that stood out from the rest, drawing on the classic rock roots of bands like Dokken, AC/DC, Guns and Roses and Aerosmith, that have been lost in the drone of today..s rock music. Tom, Chris, Randy, Mike and Rick realized that their job didn..t end with writing their music, it had to be recorded and produced by the right people. Their self-titled debut album was produced at Fortrocks Studio in California by the renowned producer Paul Sabu. The end result? An album that hooks rock and roll junkies with an addictive mix of driving beats, rich vocals and tons of attitude.
Here is the track listing for Badmouth’s self titled CD.

02 Kick it up

Metallica has just released another song off of their upcoming record, Death Magnetic.
The new song; “The Judas Kiss” is the fourth, and final song to be made available before the album is released in its entirety this Friday.
Rounding out the preview of the album, “The Judas Kiss” joins “The Day That Never Comes”, “My Apocalypse”, and “Cyanide”, to give fans a full understanding of what Metallica has in store for them.
Go to their iTunes.com page to listen to clips, and purchase all four songs, but be sure to head back on Friday, Sept. 12th, to complete your copy of Death Magnetic.
Spread Eagle’s Debut Album has been been reissued by Lovember Records. Originally released in 1990 by MCA/Universal it has been out of print for ten years. Regarded by many as being a “classic” this album has been digitally remastered and contains all 11 songs.
“Switchblade Serenade” and “Scratch Like A Cat” received strong airplay on rock radio and their videos were in heavy rotation on MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball. Other album favorites are “Broken City” and the dramatic ballad “Thru These Eyes”. The band built a strong international following supported by non-stop touring. Many in the industry considered Spread Eagle to be the Guns ‘N Roses of New York. In 2006 the group reunited for a U.S. tour.
Metallica’s “Death Magnetic,” the entire album, available for Guitar Hero too!
The simultaneous release of the album and “downloadable content” for your Guitar Hero game. Anytime after 2:00 AM PDT on Friday, September 12, you can get “Death Magnetic” for GHIII at the Xbox LIVE Marketplace for a cost of 1,440 Microsoft Points and in the Playstation store for PS3 at a cost of $17.99.
Each download contains two different versions of “Suicide & Redemption.” One version is James only solo, and the other is Kirk only solo. The download will be forward compatible with Guitar Hero World Tour when it comes out in October.
“Gettin’ Better” is the second single off of Tesla’s excellent debut record, Mechanical Resonance.
Check out the video for “Gettin’ Better” below.
Much like many of you, my first exposure to Dragonforce was through the Playstation 2 version of Guitar Hero, and their song “Through The Fire And Flames“. (I gave up trying to play that song in the game a long time ago.)
I recently met the band at the Mayhem festival in Indianapolis and decided to give their new disc, Ultra Beatdown a try.
If you haven’t ever heard Dragonforce before, the one thing you have to understand is just how fast these guys play. I am not sure if Speed Metal would be the appropriate title for these guys, but name a band, any band, and I doubt they play as fast as Dragonforce.
There are only 8 songs on Ultra Beatdown, but each song averages over 7 minutes in length.
After spinning Ultra Beatdown a couple of times, I felt like I was listening to a heavy metal, science fiction movie soundtrack. The music is pretty amazing stuff, but the writing is definitely suspect. I don’t know if it has anything to do with overall rhythm of each song, but it is hard for me to develop a passion for this music. ZP Theart has a very good melodic voice, but his vocals are robbed by the insane pace of the music.
There are moments where Dragonforce slows it down, and shows moments of brilliance. There just aren’t enough of those moments to keep me very interested.
Dragonforce fans will probably eat this stuff up, but I found Ultra Beatdown lacking. I hear a lot of flash in their playing, but I don’t hear enough substance to back it up. There is no doubt that these guys are extremely talented, but they need to slow the pace of their music below light speed if they want some career longevity in Dragonforce.

I don’t make it a secret that Buckcherry is one of my favorite bands out there so of course I jumped at the chance for the opportunity to interview guitarist Keith Nelson. I thought it was a great interview, there were a lot of questions I didn’t get to ask because there wasn’t enough time but that is ok I will save them for the next time. Here is what he had to say, Enjoy!
HRH: Buckcherry recently wrapped up the inaugural Cruefest, how did you think the tour went
Keith Nelson: I thought it was phenomenal, a lot of fun
HRH: What were some of the other bands on the bill that you watched when you had a chance?
Keith Nelson: Papa Roach they are a great live band and of course the Crue they were just over the top.
HRH: Do you think Buckcherry will go out with Cruefest next year?
Keith Nelson: Definitely if we get the chance.
HRH: Buckcherry did over 300 shows in support of 15 are you looking at the same kind of tour for “Black Butterfly”?
Keith Nelson: We were thinking of maybe 600 or 700. Just kidding, Yeah you know we are a live band and that is what we do so going out on the road and living out on the pirate strip as they call it and making rock-n-roll 6 nights a week is kinda what we do.
HRH: 15 was recorded in 15 days how long did it take to record “Black Butterfly”?
Keith Nelson: 21 days on this record
HRH: When it comes to writing is everyone involved or is it you and Josh?
Keith Nelson: Everyone is involved, every song ultimately ends up in the room with all 5 guys weighing in regardless of where it starts. A lot of times Josh and I will come up something, get it pretty much completed, take it in and start rehearsing it. I want to hear what the other guys in my band think of it and see if they have any ideas.
HRH: Is there a story behind the title “Black Butterfly”?
Keith Nelson: Not really, well I guess the only story is there was a song called “Black Butterfly” that we all loved but ultimately didn’t make the record. Not because it was inferior to anything else but in the big picture of the record that piece just didn’t seem to fit, we loved it and certainly it will see the light of day at some point. But when we were coming up with concepts for the cover the image of the Black Butterfly was kind of stuck in my head so I proposed that as the title of the record and everyone seemed to like it.
HRH: So far there are 3 songs available for the fans to hear with, Too Drunk, Rescue Me, and Don’t Go Away, what are some of the other songs you like off the album?
Keith Nelson: Well there is a song called “Cream” that ends the record that is a pretty special song. It was written and rewritten and left for dead and then rewritten again and that is one of my favorite songs on the record. There is a song called “Imminent Bailout” which I think is probably one of the best rock songs I’ve ever written as far as sheer rock-n-roll intensity. There are so many songs, there is a song called “Rose” that I think is a great stretch for us as far as sonically in our approach to songwriting. Man there is a lot of great songs on the record.
HRH: Was the band surprised by the reaction of “Too Drunk” when it was leaked?
Keith Nelson: You know it is crazy how that all went down cause we actually finished mixing the record on a Sunday and 3 or 4 days later we left to start Cruefest, while that was all kind of going on while we were out of the road. Obviously it is in our best interest to present our record in a very structured, you know thought out way and with all the songs being passed around to different people for mastering, remixing, and what not unfortunately that song leaked. In this day and age we just kind of make the best of what we got so once the song was out there we just kind of had to follow it but it wasn’t our first choice for what the single was going to be.
HRH: You always have extra songs on the singles and imports, has there ever been any talk of putting out a B-sides album?
Keith Nelson: Yeah, I mean there hasn’t actually been any talk but it’s funny because early on the B-sides were very much, well you could tell why those songs weren’t on the record and now the left over tracks are as good as anything on the record but you can only put so many songs on a record. You never know I’m sure at some point after we have more of a discography behind us there will be some more special stuff.
HRH: After “Time Bomb” Buckcherry went on hiatus and you and Josh end up recording some songs with the guys from Velvet Revolver. The story goes there were 10 or so songs recorded is there a chance they will ever be made available to the public?
Keith Nelson: Well what happened with those songs is they were actually live recordings that we would make in a rehearsal room, they were multi-tracked. We didn’t make a record but we did do a very detailed recording of them in a live situation. They do exist, I do have them but they will never see the light of day.
HRH: In the past you played with Huck Johns and now he is playing with JB, Devon, and Yogi in a project called Black Robot. Is that something you helped put together?
Keith Nelson: I have no knowledge of that and know nothing about it.
HRH: Legend has it that you and Josh started Buckcherry because you both love AC/DC. Have you had a chance to hear their new single yet?
Keith Nelson: No but I am so excited about the new AC/DC record you have no idea.
HRH: With Cruefest finished and “Black Butterfly” tour starting up who are some of the bands you are looking at opening for you?
Keith Nelson: Well we start this next leg of the tour in a few days with Avenged Sevenfold, Shinedown, and Saving Abel, which are all great bands that is going to be a fun, fun tour. Airbourne is awesome, I would love to have Airbourne and we are actually going to do some dates with those guys in Japan.
HRH: If you could put together a Cherryfest and you could have any 5 bands past or present on the bill who would it be?
Keith Nelson: Well we would have AC/DC close the show for us and we would go on right before them. Right before us or maybe flip flopping every night we would have Stone Temple Pilots and Rage Against the Machine and I would probably get Muddy Waters to start things off.
And with that we wrapped the interview up, like I said earlier I think it was a great interview, very relaxed and laid back Keith was extremely easy to talk too. I definitely look forward to talking to him again if and when I get the chance.

Succubi’s are defined as demons who take the form of beautiful women, in order to seduce men. If the band Black Succubi are demons, they have taken form as metal heads who will tear your world apart with heavy guitar riffs, powerful vocals and hard crashing rhythms.
When I first read about this Scandinavian metal act, I knew they could be something special, but I had no idea they would be this good.
Not only is Black Succubi’s new disc a great new metal album, it will compete with Testament’s The Formation of Damnation for best of 2008. On this CD, I hear heavy riffs that remind me of Pantera, Halford and Black Label Society. I love all of those bands so I found this album very much to my liking.
Jan Lundstrom is one of the best new metal singers that I have heard in a long time. When you hear the combined guitar might of Thomas Pedersen, and Michael Larsen, you will think you have died and gone to metal heaven. Black Succubi has some great guest appearances on this record as well. Mercyful Fate’s Hank Shermann adds a guitar solo on the tune “Cry For Your Brother”, and Iron Fire’s Kirk Bacharach on the song “Psychotic Meltdown”.
Bottom line, this album is heavy as hell, and absolutely killer. No metal fan should be without this!
Go to the Black Succubi myspace page to preview some of the music on this album. For more information on the band, check out their website at this link. You can buy this album from iTunes and Prefueled. Go get it! You will be glad you did!

Warrant posted the following bulletin this evening: It is with the deepest regret that we have to announce that Jani Lane will no longer be performing with Warrant. From the beginning of our reunion talks to the last note of our last show together in Houston this past weekend we have had nothing but good intentions of bringing a quality original Warrant show to our fans and friends. We wish Jani nothing but the best and remain friends.

Multi-Platinum Artist 3 Doors Down adds Lancaster rock band Negative Space to their lineup on their September 13th performance at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD. They will start the night of rock off at 6:30pm followed by other chart toppers Finger Eleven, Hinder and 3 Doors Down.
Negative Space has been touring to promote their recently released album “Storylines.” With increasing exposure from playing with other major acts Alter Bridge (Former members of CREED) and Breaking Benjamin, this small town band from PA are ready for the big time. They are profiled in Revolver Magazine and the first single “Honestly” has received regional radio spins as well as rotation on Music Choice and AOL Radio.
Negative Space has reached the pinnacle in their songwriting with songs that deliver guitar-driven rock with the lyrics of maturity that reach fans young and old.
