We like to invite certain guests to join us a couple of times for each album, if it’s warranted, of course. Having a successful album will go a long way toward making that happen. Hey, we’ll even go three deep if there’s a live performance involved. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. It’s hard to believe it was last March when Theory of a Deadman joined us for the national radio debut of “Scars and Souvenirs”. We must have been having fun because the time has certainly flown.
During that time, Theory has enjoyed the most successful period of their rapidly growing career. It took a band the caliber of Metallica to recently knock “Bad Girlfriend” out of the number one slot on the rock radio charts. It now occupies the number two hole (behind some heavyweight company) and has charted for 20 consecutive weeks. All this comes on the heels of “So Happy”, which enjoyed similar success and a top two chart posting. But chart numbers are only a tiny measure of what an album is all about and “Scars and Souvenirs” shows the depth and breadth that are the hallmarks of good old Rock & Roll.
The album is perfectly balanced with a range of emotions: anger, humor, betrayal, turmoil, resolution and resolve, just to log a few. And if there’s anything Theory has gotten better at with each release it’s making sure their music sticks in your head. On this third album, they’re making the creation of good songs seem like anyone could do it, because their music feels natural and just right. But if anyone could we’d all be doing it, right?
Theory is in the midst of a full blown tour right now…they’re full fledged headliners now. You can find all of the dates at TheoryofADeadman.com and on their My Space site as well. We will catch up with the Vancouver, BC based band in the Midwest, Michigan specifically, and see if there have been any major changes since they joined us half of a year ago. We’re expecting the entire band to join us to talk about their music, take your calls and play some songs on the radio for you. We’ve welcomed Canadian bands to ROCKLINE for as long as we can remember and there seems to be a common trait, they’re all polite and tend to be stand up guys. (They must hate hearing that but it’s true.) We had one of the most legendary “north of the border” bands of all time join us and they were asked about exactly that and simply replied, “We’re nice Canadian lads, we’re taught to be that way”. They apparently learn well, but just because the guys in Theory are decent folks doesn’t mean they’re boring or uninteresting. It just means it’s highly unlikely you’ll be seeing them on the police blotter or on the next TMZ, which means we can talk about their music. That’s why we’ve invited them back, they make good music and that’s reason enough.
Join us for Theory of A Deadman, the whole band, exclusively on the next ROCKLINE! Click below for your local schedule!

On Sept. 23rd 2008, a rock band took matters into its own hands and released a record on its own imprint. Black Sun by Ra, a band that has scanned over 350,000 CDs since 2002, has made waves both in the quality of the new album and the efficient way it was produced and promoted.
With the lead single, “Broken Hearted Soul”, Ra and its new imprint, Sahaja Music Records, managed to get a double feature on the iTunes rock homepage and downloaded 8,000 singles by album launch.
Please explore the truly dramatic back story of a band that has fought to be heard for 6 years at:
Ra features PJ Farley (Trixter) on bass.
The names Poley / Rivera should be very familiar to all. This special pairing of two very talented guys ensures the delivery of some classic melodic rock moments. The ‘Poley’ of course belongs to Ted Poley (vocalist for Danger Danger) and ‘Rivera’ belongs to Vic Rivera (guitarist for Adriangale/Crunch).
The duo teamed up in late 2005 for the album Collateral Damage which was released as a Ted Poley solo record by Kivel Records in 2006.
Now the guys finally get to do it again, under the Poley/Rivera moniker for the first time since previewing one of the demos from this album on the MelodicRock Volume 2 sampler in late 2006. The album is named after that very track. Only Human is everything one expects from a Ted Poley release, with the added “crunch” of Vic Rivera, showcasing an extra special set of songs.
Says Ted Poley: “I am very excited and honored that Poley/Rivera has been chosen as one of the initial signings to Angelmilk! Vic and I are very proud of the new CD and happy that Andy and Andrew and their team will be handling it! I wish Angelmilk much success with all of its new signings and look forward to being part of a new adventure in melodic rock!”
Vic Rivera joins in: “Ted and I are absolutely thrilled to be working with Messrs. McNeice and Bramhall and Angelmilk Records for the release of this CD. We’re very proud of the work we’ve done on this project and are honored that the classy label in Angelmilk has endeavored to bring this great bunch of songs to the melodic rock fans. It was a labor of love every step of the way, and to finally see it fully realized is a dream come true for us. Thanks, Andrew, Andy and Angelmilk! And a big thanks to all of our fans who make this possible!”
Track Listing for Poley/Rivera “Only Human”: 1. Keep On Fighting 2. Top Of The World 3. Only Human 4. Did We Just Have A Moment 5. Insanity 6. N.W.S 7. The Bigger They Come 8. Delirious 9. Fire At Will 10. Breathe Deep 11. Crossing The Ocean.
The release of Only Human is currently scheduled for November 3rd. Check out Poley/Rivera on myspace at this link.
Forever More is easily one of the most highly anticipated albums of 2008 for this listener. I am a big fan of Tesla, and have been for many years. Their cover albums from 2007 Real to Reel Volume 1 and 2 were really good, and I have had high hopes that the band would put out a CD with some new kick ass tunes for me (and everyone else) to enjoy.
Forever More finally hits stores October 7th. It has been over four and half years since their last studio album, Into the Now. I can gladly say that this album was worth the wait.
The title and opening track “Forever More” has more of a modern feel to it. It reminds me a lot of the sound from the Into the Now record. Frank Hannon’s trademark sounds show up often on this song. This one grows on me each time I hear it.
“I Wanna Live” is a great new rocking tune from Tesla. This is their first single, and it ought to be a hit.
Believe it or not, “One Day At A Time” rocks even harder than “I Wanna Live”. This song ought to be a new concert staple for Tesla.
The first time I heard the song “So What” was right here at HRH. I liked this song the first time I heard it, and still do. (Click here to listen to “So What”).
Each time I hear “Just In Case” I think to myself, man this ought to be a monster hit. This song sound is more similar in sound to The Great Radio Controversy. This song ought to be huge, if radio picks it up. Great stuff!
There are so many good songs on this disc, it is hard to call them all favorites, but “Fallin’ Apart” is definitely one of mine.
“Breakin’ Free” is a very moody sounding tune by Tesla. In fact, I don’t recall hearing them do a song anything like this one before. This song has some modern bass tones, and guitar sounds that initially reminded me of Tool in the beginning of the song. It then morphs into a sound that is more reminiscent of Into the Now. This isn’t my favorite song on Forever More, but isn’t bad either.
“All of Me” also has a very modern sound to it. This is a very mainstream rocker that ought to draw some new fans to Tesla.
I think the song ‘The First Time” should have been named “Extraordinary”, but aside from that, this is a pretty cool tune. Dave Rude breaks out the slide guitar on this bluesy rocker.
Tesla has been performing “Pvt. Ledbetter” during their live shows in 2008, so I was already very familiar with this song. This is also on Tesla’s new DVD, Comin’ Atcha Live. This is another solid tune and is also one of my favorites on Forever More.
“In A Hole Again” has more of that modern sound to it. I love Hannon’s solos on this song, but as a whole (no pun intended) this is my least favorite track on this disc.
The closing track “The Game” has a heavier edge to it, and sounds like it could have been a left over track from the Bust A Nut record. Dave Rude and Frank Hannon really jam on this killer song. This is a really cool tune to close out the album.
Forever More is every bit the album that I hoped it would be. Is it Tesla’s best work? No, not by any means, but it is really good. Forever More is better than their last studio effort Into the Now, and will please Tesla fans everywhere. Forever More has stellar guitar work, great production, and the fantastic vocals of Jeff Keith. What more could a fan want? This is highly recommended listening!
