New Lynch Mob Album in 2009
Cameron Edney from Inside Out Australia spoke to LYNCH MOB’s George Lynch (guitar; ex-DOKKEN) and singer Oni Logan about a number of topics including their new album. An excerpt from the chat is below:
Inside Out: You recently went back into the studio to begin work on the next Lynch Mob album; after so many years of recording what are you hoping to achieve in the studio this time around?
Oni Logan: “We hope to deliver a solid recording, one that will be up to snuff with the first album so to speak.
George Lynch: “Revisiting the wonderful chemistry that Oni and I shared…and building upon the legacy of that first record Wicked Sensation and doing it without the drugs and egos.”
Inside Out: What can you tell us about the new tracks you are currently working on… can you share any working titles with us?
George Lynch: “The album is tentatively entitled Smoke And Mirrors, and some of the track titles are ‘The Phasist’, ‘Mansions In The Sky’ and ‘Hollywood Heroes’. It’s got a nice old-skool four on the floor vibe to it… very honest, bare and raw!”
Oni Logan: “So far the songs that have been written are all different from each other, in some ways it’s been a bit of an adventure, it’s really too early to tell what will end up on the recording.”
Inside Out: Although you are still in the early stages with Smoke And Mirrors, has there been a release date set?
George Lynch: “We’re hoping for early summer 2009.”
Inside Out: When it comes to writing for the new album, have you approached it in the same way as you have done albums in the past or are you guys looking at this from various different angles?
Oni Logan: “The writing process is the same as ever… George comes up with a few riffs we arrange it together then I take it home and write the lyrics and melodies for it.”
Inside Out: George, I have heard that next year you are planning on doing various secret shows and releasing some limited edition albums to commemorate your 30th anniversary, can you shed any light to what it is exactly that you have planned?
George Lynch: “There’s a company called Scenefour that been working on a year and half campaign to commemorate the roughly 30th anniversary. First up is a limited edition art piece that’s really amazing, only two hundred pieces and they’re all unique. One hundred of them will be on display at art shows and the other hundred will be for sale through some retail outlets and the website.”

Seriously the Wicked Sensation is one of the best records of all time. I was at the show at the hollywood palace right after the record came out. Magical times on stage. Please give us something like that again.
I am really looking foward to this cd and telling a lot of folks to give it a listen.
I’ve also been a huge fan of the first Lynch Mob release. As well I’ve asked for the reunion. I certainly hope Marcos can remain in the line up for the tour.
Peace
Oh my. Please God, let the stars align and this album actually see the light of day. And not be another Smoke This. Or another collection of remakes. Or detunes. Or greatest hits. Or instrumentals.
Please George, do the right thing.
And no drugs or egos? Booo. Whaddya think makes albums like Wicked Sensation so unique? (Half joking…..only half).
I couldn’t agree more. That first Lynchmob album rules. I’ve asked Oni 100 times to do it again with Lynch, I hope they deliver. I don’t understand George, all that talent and nothing to show in 17 years? Next he should jam with Rillins and tour with Chickenfoot. Put youself on the map for christ sakes!
Drugs/booze in a controlled amount give you an edge and longevity for the show. Let’s you see yourself as you look in public, not your self protected image. Sober music generally sounds drab, predictable and plastic. Have a beer and please your fans George. This is probably your last chance. Not joking.
