Following on from his two hugely successful Christmas shows, HardRockHouse is pleased to announce that Danny Vaughn’s Standing Alone EP is now available. Featuring stripped back interpretations of both Tyketto & Vaughn classics the EP, which has been unavailable since the 2002 pressing very quickly sold out, should be a “must have” for any classic rock fan.
From the beginning of his career Vaughn, the Tyketto & former Waysted vocalist, had always been the token acoustic guitar player who added a little extra flavour to the sound of the bands with which he was involved. The idea for Standing Alone came about following a UK tour which saw Vaughn taking to the stage alone every night to play a song acoustically. Such was the reception that these interludes received that soon after he invested in some home recording equipment and Standing Alone began to take shape. As Vaughn states: “The idea was to see how some songs from my near and not-so-near past would sound reinterpreted”. And the result is nothing short of spectacular. Emotional and honest Standing Alone is the sound of vocal and guitar working together at their best, the simplicity of the arrangements proving just how good Vaughn’s songs truly are.

Anthony Iommi, lead guitarist of the rock band Black Sabbath, is suing Live Nation Inc. for trademark infringement, alleging a subsidiary of the music promoter has illegally sold merchandise using images of the band.
The guitarist alleged that Signatures Network Inc., purchased by Live Nation in 2007, has continued to sell merchandise with images of Iommi and Black Sabbath’s trademarked symbol after the expiration of a licensing agreement, according to a complaint filed today in a U.S. District Court in New York.
Iommi co-founded Black Sabbath in 1968 along with vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward. The left-handed guitarist behind songs such as “Iron Man” and “Paranoid” has retained control of the band’s trademarks as the other original members left, according to the complaint.
Live Nation, the largest U.S. concert promoter, purchased Signatures for $79 million in 2007 and tapped its chief executive officer, Dell Furano, to take over its merchandise division.
The purchase gave Live Nation control of the rights to license and market merchandise for artists such as The Beatles, U2, Bruce Springsteen and Barbra Streisand. The company, based in Beverly Hills, California, also competes with Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc. for concert ticket sales.
Live Nation rose 15 cents, or 4.1 percent, to $3.80 on the Nasdaq Stock Market. The shares have lost 74 percent this year.
Iommi, 60, has registered the Black Sabbath trademark in the U.K, U.S. and European Union. The band’s contract with Signatures expired in 2006, according to the complaint.
The lawsuit alleges that Signatures continued to sell the band’s merchandise after Iommi sent a letter in April telling the company to stop. The gear included about 100 items of clothing, jewelry, posters and fashion accessories.
Iommi is seeking damages of at least three times Signatures’ profits from the merchandise, as well as a halt to the product sales.
Live Nation doesn’t comment about ongoing litigation, said spokeswoman Liz Morentin.
The case is Anthony Iommi v. Signatures Network Inc., No. 1:08-cv-10904, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York (Manhattan).
Four days. More than fifty bands. Two stages. Multiple genres of rock. It’s time to get wild. Workaholics Candlebox will rock the main stage at Rock Gone Wild. British Metallers Saxon and the Gypsy Pistoleros have agreed to cross the pond just to party with you at the festival. Rock Gone Wild is slated for August 20-23, 2009 in Algona, Iowa. Tickets are available now by visiting www.rockgonewild.com.
Forming in the early 1990s, Candlebox immediately broke from their Seattle brethren. While many bands from the region followed the grunge path, Candlebox made their own way. Blending modern sound with classic guitar rock, Candlebox created their own unique sound – and gathered an army of fans along the way. The band’s self-titled debut became a near instant success, spawning several hit singles including “Far Behind” and “You.” Candlebox are currently supporting their newest hit album Into the Sun, released earlier this year. Candlebox is Kevin Martin (vocals, guitar), Peter Klett (guitar), Scott Mercado (drums), Adam Kury (bass) and Sean Hennesy (rhythm guitar).
Leading the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Saxon formed at the end of the 1970s and created a signature sound that new bands still attempt to imitate today. Saxon released their self-titled debut in 1979, but it wasn’t until 1980 and Wheels of Steel that the band really began to take hold. Since the early years, Saxon has weathered several lineup changes and continued to tour heavily and record new music. Lead singer Biff Byford has remained a constant force in the band, bringing a balls out in-your-face Metal show to each and every paying customer. Be warned! Stand close to the stage when Saxon plays and you will be rocked. Saxon is Biff Byford (vocals), Doug Scarratt (guitar), Paul Quinn (guitar), Nibbs Carter (bass) and Nigel Glockler (drums).
The Gypsy Pistoleros are the world’s greatest flamenco glam band! If you’ve never seen the Gypsy Pistoleros perform live…get ready: you’ll never be the same again. The band is a mix of Brit charm, Spanish flavor and glam swagger. Lee Pistolero (vocals), Iggie Pistolero (guitar), Nasty Pistolero (bass) and Harri Pistolero (drums) are the Gypsy Pistoleros.
Bands already announced for Rock Gone Wild include Puddle of Mudd, Saliva, Skid Row, Tantric, Kix, Great White, Hardcore Superstar, Saigon Kick, Tigertailz, Lizzy Borden, Dangerous Toys, Helix, Rhino Bucket and Junkyard with many more to come!
Rock Gone Wild will take place at the Freedom Park festival grounds, located at 2507- 160th Avenue in Algona, Iowa.
If you build it, they will rock.
Only Human is Poley/Rivera’s debut but in name only as the two have worked together on Poley’s previous solo albums “Collateral Damage” , which could have very easily been called Poley/Rivera also. On Poley’s release “Smile” Rivera was not as involved in the recording process but he did write two of the best songs on the album.
If you are familiar with Ted Poley or Vic Rivera’s other projects, namely Danger Danger and AdrianGale then it should be no mystery as to what you are going to get with “Only Human”. Pure unadulterated melodic rock filled with hooks, harmonies, great solos, and sing along choruses.
“Keep on Fighting” starts the album off and it is a straight up rock anthem, hopefully Rivera’s name and talent will get a lot more exposure with this album because he is an outstanding guitarist. He plays this song like he is having the time of his life. Poley’s voice sounds as great as it ever has, this song should go over great live.
“Top of the World” is the kind of radio friendly melodic rock song that made Poley famous. Head bobbing, foot tapping, roll the windows down and sing a long lyrics. This song deserves some radio airplay. Rivera shines on this song also and he does it without a big flashy solo.
The title track “Only Human” is a mid tempo ballad that would easily fit on any Danger Danger album filled with keyboards, huge background vocals and huge guitar sounds. The solo is outstanding with classic 80’s feel.
“Did We Just Have A Moment” is another radio friendly rocker. Poley/Rivera work so well together on every song it just seems like they click perfectly.
The rest of “Only Human” is filled with more radio friendly rockers “The Bigger They Come” and “Delirious” really stand out. “Crossing This Ocean” is a classic ballad you would expect from Ted Poley. “N.W.S.” will appeal to fans of heavier melodic rock.
Danger Danger’s new album may not come out until 2009 some time but the Danger Danger family has been well represented with two very good albums this year. First Marcello/Vestry’s debut earlier this year and now Poley/Rivera’s debut. If you are not a fan of Danger Danger or other similar bands “Only Human” is not going to do much to change your mind. But if you are a fan of Danger Danger, Firehouse, etc. etc. Poley/Rivera will be a great addition to your collection, definitely worth the price of admission.
