Warner Music Group To Pull Their Videos From Youtube
From RollingStone.com:
Warner Music Group said they will pull all of their music videos and related content off YouTube this weekend as negotiations between the label and the video site hit a stand still. WMG was one of the first of the majors to align itself with YouTube. “We are working actively to find a resolution with YouTube that would enable the return of our artists’ content to the site,” the label says in a statement. “Until then, we simply cannot accept terms that fail to appropriately and fairly compensate recording artists, songwriters, labels and publishers for the value they provide.”
While WMG has withdrawn their videos from YouTube, the videos are still streaming at YouTube’s biggest challengers, MySpace Music and MTV Music. “Sometimes, if we can’t reach acceptable business terms, we must part ways with successful partners,” YouTube responds in a statement. Despite the reports and threats to pull their catalogue from YouTube, pretty much every WMG video we looked up at YouTube is still streaming. Madonna, Van Halen, T.I., Led Zeppelin… all still there, their “official video channels” still intact.
HRH Comment: This seems like it would hurt the artists more than it would help them. What do you think?

Yeah, I’ve heard that WMG is trying to kill off the audio of music videos that bands have uploaded themselves. Everyone here is right, free advertising for them and they want to fuck it up now. I do gameplay videos on youtube and I’m particular with Killzone 2. Disturbed is one of the best bands to represent the game and I’m positive that they would agree, since I’ve spoken to the lead singer himself. WMG needs to pull their head in.
I’m hoping WMG pays big. I just removed 38 videos from youtube.
I do all the music as I re record songs. I haven’t yet written any although I am trying. I play my keyboard and guitar and sing songs by the eagles, credence and country. I dont do an “remixes.”
I wonder what they call a musician that re record the whole song.
I don’t usually copy the original song much except the word
Thanks MajorSteele
This is bull shit! Bunch of F***ING morons! I looked up “Souls of Black” from Testament I haven’t seen it in YEARS!!! Video, no sound! Pull your head out of you ass! FREE ADVERTISING! For instance, someone that just got turned on from the latest video from Testament ” More Then Meets The Eye” might come across “Souls OF Black” & want to BUY that one too. How can they IF THEY CAN”T HEAR IT YOU DIPSHITS! My goddess you record ecxt dipshits are idiots! If my band ever gets signed I hope to goddess its Roadrunner Records!!
Roadrunner is owned by Warner Music so you might want to rethink that.
This is going to hurt the artists since in a lot of instances they are being blamed. some people assume the bands are behind the pulling of the audio and are now anti not just the label but anti some great bands too.
After hearing of this I went and looked at my teenagers latest itunes and CD purchases and none were WMG. They had no idea about the disabling of WMG audios-however 95% of the music they buy they have found on youtube, under currently being watched or highest view count-guess what’s not currently being watched, nor having high counts-therefore remains unknown to them and thosands of other kids. I’d heard other labels sales were up and I’m thinking this is probably why.
i have a account at youtube and tons of my videos are getting blocked! at least one every day! and i think its wrong for one and really not a smart thing for another because it free advertisement i mean really how smart do you have to be to know that for example i love linkin park but five months ago i only had two of there songs on my ipod till one day i found the song what i have done on youtube i absolutely love the song now and have gotten a lot more of there songs! hmm lets see person songs buying omg money! until WMG can see what they lossing they are headed for a lot of business problems!
I think the music industry deserves every problem that it has. YouTube is a good way to have people watch your videos and expose your music to people who normally wouldn’t hear it. They want paid for that? It’s FREE advertising!!! I can’t even list all the bands I NEVER would have bought cds from had I not heard them (or seen them in this case) cause a friend sent me a link to a YouTube video.
Why doesn’t the music industry just kill itself off and be done with it? Just stop having your bands do anything. Why bother? Besides, it’s Warner Brothers, does anybody on this site, or who listens to Hard Rock and Heavy Metal buy any of their artist to begin with? I’ve bought hundreds of cds this year, not one of them was on Warner Brothers.
In the end, YouTube will not suffer. Warner Brothers will loose a place to expose their bands to the public and music sales will continue to decline.
Christ, I remember when they were PAYING MTV to play music videos.
Does this mean the artist “themselves” cant have their own video on their own website/myspace & facebook?
