Unhappy with the direction Britny Fox was heading in, singer “Dizzy” Dean Davidson, left that group to form a brand new band, Blackeyed Susan.
From a musical perspective, Blackeyed Susan was probably a couple of steps above Britny Fox. The band had more of a bluesy rock sound in the vein of Aerosmith, that the hair metal sounds of Britny Fox. The metal screams that were commonplace on the Britny Fox albums were also gone. Dean Davidson sings in his natural voice on “Electric Rattlebone”.
Blackeyed Susan did have a song that was a minor hit called “None of It Matters”. This song incorporates a middle eastern flair in the guitar sound, which is kind of cool. Check out the video “None of it Matters” at this link.
“Sympathy” is a bluesy rocker that has a very cool slide guitar, mixed with some funky ragtime style piano playing.
“Ride With Me” reminds me a lot of the more acoustic bluesy numbers that Cinderella was doing on their album, “Heartbreak Station”.
“Old Lady Snow” is one of those songs with simple lyrics, but it is upbeat enough for it to get in your head and stay there.
“She’s So Fine” should have been a hit for Blackeyed Susan. It has catchy lyrics, good guitar work, and a very good beat. This song is one of my favorites on this record.
Even though the music on this disc was superior to anything else Dean Davidson had done previously, this album was a commercial failure. Mercury Records pulled the plug on their tour, and Blackeyed Susan crashed and burned. When this album originally came out, I expected this to be another hair metal CD, and this is nothing of the sort. I didn’t enjoy this very much back in the 90’s, but over the years, my taste has changed. I have grown to appreciate the music on “Electric Rattlebone”.
If you enjoy good bluesy hard rock, “Electric Rattlebone” is a disc you will want to pick up. This under rated gem has been out of print for years. You can find used copies of this CD, for next to nothing in the HRH music store.

Supergroup Big Noize, featuring vocalist Joe Lynn Turner (DEEP PURPLE, RAINBOW, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN), bassist Phil Soussan (OZZY OSBOURNE, VINCE NEIL), guitarist Carlos Cavazo (QUIET RIOT, RATT) and drummer Simon Wright (AC/DC, Dio) has been forced to cancel their South American tour this month.
On December 4, 2008 Big Noize and booking agent Sullivan Bigg released the following statement:
Although there were several promoters involved, all of them were in breach of contract by failing to make arrangements and provide the funding as agreed, despite repeated requests from band management and agent. Big Noize waited to cancel until “the last minute” in good faith that flight/hotel arrangements and funding would show up. As of today, neither flight/hotel arrangements or funding has been sent to band management nor their agent. The members of Big Noize were looking forward to playing to fans on this tour. The band, management and booking agent are all sad and disappointed that this has happened but they are looking forward to an opportunity in the future to reschedule a tour to with more reputable promoters.

German power metallers PRIMAL FEAR entered the studio on November 28 to begin recording their new album, “16.6”, due in early 2009 via Frontiers Records. The band is in the process of laying down the following 14 tracks for the new CD (working titles; in no particular order):
01. Six Times Dead (16.6)
02. Smith & Wesson
04. Riding The Eagle
05. Black Rain
08. Night After Night
10. Don’t Fuck With My Life
11. No Smoke Without Fire
12. The Exorcist
Commented PRIMAL FEAR frontman Ralf Scheepers: “It’s very unusual for one band member to see and listen how the other band member is delivering the goods on his instrument. When we perform together live, you can also judge what’s going on each instrument but not as clear and obvious as in the studio where you can concentrate on each tone or note or beat from your mates. From what I have heard so far, I can really say it’s the best performance I have ever heard from Randy [Black] on the drums and also from Henny [Wolter] on the guitar. Of course, some people might think, ‘What else should he say, he has to promote the new album and that’s what every musician would say just to keep the ball running.’ But these words are my true impression and I really can’t wait for Magnus [Karlsson, guitar] and Mat [Sinner, bass] to nail their parts to see the whole building growing and growing.”
PRIMAL FEAR earlier in the year parted ways with guitarist Stefan Leibing and replaced him with Magnus Karlsson (ALLEN/LANDE, STARBREAKER).
The band’s latest album, “New Religion”, last year landed on the Swedish chart at No. 67. It also entered the German chart at No. 60. The CD was released in the U.S. on January 29 via Locomotive/Ryko. Guest musicians on the album include Kai Hansen (GAMMA RAY, ex-HELLOWEEN) and Simone Simons (EPICA).
Like everybody else I am waiting the release of the new Danger Danger album, which will hopefully see the light of day in 2009. But if you think Ted Poley is just sitting around doing nothing you would be sadly mistaken. Not only is he preparing for the release of Poley/Rivera’s Only Human in the middle of November, he also found the time to record the debut album “For Your Personal Amusement” with his band mates in Pleasure Dome. Poley teams up with David Tsien (guitars), Charlie Calv (keyboards), Ed Avila (bass) and John Hummel (drums) in what amounts to a melodic rock supergroup. Some of the bands the members have been involved with in the past include, Shotgun Symphony, Arcara, Shoot the Doctor, Skin Tag and Melodica.
After a short musical intro everything kicks off with “Trapped” which is a heavy melodic song filled with some great bass lines from Avila and keyboards from Calv. For someone known more for party rock Poley does a great job of handling the vocals on this song and Tsien completes the song perfectly with his guitar work.
“One & Only” could easily pass for a Danger Danger song or a song off Poley’s solo albums. It is a catchy sing a long song with great vocals and even more great guitar work from Tsien. I hope some radio station gives this song a chance because it deserves it and has hit written all over it.
“the Aura That Surrounds You” is another heavy melodic song with some haunting keyboards and great bass from Calv and Avila. With every song Tsien’s playing impresses me more and more. His playing along with Poley’s vocals shine throughout the album.
“Praying For A Miracle” is an acoustic based mid tempo rocker, which I believe was first recorded for Liberty N’ Justice’s “Independence Day” album that Poley also sang a track on.
“Always Tomorrow” follows the same formula as “Trapped” and “Aura That Surrounds You”. “Love Is A Game” is a duet between Poley and unfortunately an unknown female singer. She also returns to join the band again on “I Won’t Cry”.
“Seems Like A Dream” is an unusual song as it is mostly an instrumental but it does have about a minute worth of vocals in the middle of the song but there is some great playing nonetheless.
“Return To Zero” is by far the heaviest song on the album, while it is a decent song I could live without it and it wouldn’t leave a hole in the album.
Comic book fans should all love (Who Will) Save the World as this rocker talks about how the world needs a new super hero as all the well known heroes from D.C. and Marvel alike are all busy with their own problems. This song gets my vote for best song on the album.
“For Your Personal Amusement” is a good album and a great introduction to the band. Hopefully we will get a chance to hear their work again. I believe the guys just started scratching the surface of what they are capable of doing together.

Original KISS guitarist’s official web site, AceFrehley.com, will launch on December 15, 2008 at noon. You can currently visit the site — which will contain music, videos and news, as well as art and graphics from Acehimself — to sign up for a mailing list which will give you access to “exclusive information from Ace Frehley.”
In an early 2008 interview with Billboard, Frehley stated about his forthcoming solo album, “Basically, I’m trying to get back into the mindset I was in when I did my first solo record [1978’s ‘Ace Frehley’]. That record seemed to have all the elements everybody liked — a real cool instrumental, a hit single, some real heavy rockers, a nice variety of different genres of music.”
Among his favorite new tracks are “A Little Below the Angels”, hard-rocking “Pain in the Neck” and an instrumental called “Fractured Quantum”, which is a follow-up to his previous instrumentals “Fractured Mirror” and “Fractured Too”. Another favorite is “groove song” titled“Genghis Khan”, which he likens in tone to LED ZEPPELIN‘s “Kashmir”.
Frehley told MyrtleBeachOnline.com that he’s shooting for 12 tracks on his next album, his first in 18 years. Studio work has spanned several months, and some of the songs go back 12 years.
Frehley recently spent time on the road fronting a band that featured second guitarist Derek Hawkins, drummer Scot Coogan (ex-BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION) and bassist Anthony Esposito (ex-LYNCH MOB).

Film-maker Eddie Martin is working on a movie about AC/DC legend Bon Scott.
The yet-to-be titled movie is in its early stages. “We’ve been working heavily on it for a couple of months. It’s early days,” Martin tells Undercover News. “We are in the writing process. We’ve been meeting with Gaby, Mary, Irene and The Valentines crew, people like Vince Lovegrove, Bon’s early friends”. (Irene was Bon’s former wife).
Eddie says he is still looking for people from the era who knew Bon. “It is at research stage,” he says.
Casting is also being considered. Tom Budge (Three Dollars, Australian Rules, The Night We Called It A Day) is the front-runner for the part of Angus Young but Bon is still to be cast. “We have been considering casting and we are not going to contain this to Australia,” he says.
One of the things that has come out in his research is that despite the numerous books written about AC/DC, he feels no-one has actually nailed the real story yet. “Obviously we have gone through most of them, but talking to Bon’s friends they aren’t happy with the books and feel they have been misrepresented. We want to go much deeper with the movie,” he says.
The person Eddie is desperate to find went by the nickname Silver. “She is definitely the one person we want to find,” he says. “She was an Adelaide girl who lived with him in London after he broke up with Irene”.
It will be a number of years before we see the Bon Scott movie on the big screen. “We’d love to be shooting in 12-18 months,” Eddie says.
Ronald Belford ‘Bon’ Scott was born on July 9, 1946 and died on February 19, 1980.
Bon was born in Scotland and the family migrated to Australia in 1952.
Bon formed his first band The Spektors in 1964. Next came The Valentines, then Fraternity, and in 1974, he joined AC/DC, replacing original singer Dave Evans.
Bon died before ever really reaping the rewards that AC/DC would later bring. At the time of his death, the current album at the time, ‘Highway To Hell’ was just reaching Top 20 status in the USA.
Bon Scott was 33 when he departed the planet. He died after a night of drinking in a car outside 67 Overhill Road in East Dulwich in South London

Breakout rock band Saving Abel will join Seether as openers for Nickelback on their North American tour beginning February 25th in Nashville, TN (full schedule below). Saving Abel’s largest outing to date will hit arenas in over 30 cities across the continent. Tickets go on sale beginning Dec. 5th at www.LiveNation.com.
“We’re thrilled to be opening for Nickelback. It’s crazy, a year ago we were playing small bars and clubs around Memphis and now we’re touring the country in a bus and will be playing with one of the biggest touring rock bands in arenas,” said Saving Abel frontman Jared Weeks.
Saving Abel have been on the road non-stop since the March, 2008 release of their self titled debut from Virgin records and have played with rock heavy weights such as Buckcherry, Avenged Sevenfold, Puddle of Mudd and Shinedown. The band has enjoyed impressive success with their chart-topping, multi-format smash debut single “Addicted,” which hit #1 at mainstream rock radio, spent 11 consecutive weeks at #2 on the active rock chart and reached #7 at alternative radio. At press time, the track is the most played song of 2008 at the active rock format. “Addicted” found a whole new life in July when it impacted Top 40 radio. The run away hit is now sitting in the top 10 at the format and is top 15 at Hot AC. While “Addicted” is topping the pop charts, Saving Abel’s second single “18 Days,” a huge rock ballad dedicated to the troops, is heating up at rock radio where it is already top 10 at active rock and top 20 at alternative radio. Videos for both tracks have witnessed major play across all video channels including MTV2, VH1, Fuse and Music Choice where “Addicted” is currently the #1 played video an their “Hit List” channel.
Saving Abel continues to reach new heights on the sales charts as well. The album spent 3 consecutive weeks at #1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart before debuting on the Billboard 200 in July. It has sold over 240,000 copies to date. ”Addicted” hit #20 on the digital singles chart and is approaching platinum success with over 800,000 singles sold thus far.
Saving Abel – named after the Biblical sibling of Cain – was formed by Jared Weeks and guitarist Jason Null in 2004 in their hometown of Corinth, Mississippi. Now based in Memphis, Tennessee, the band’s lineup includes guitarist Scott Bartlett, bassist Eric Taylor and drummer Blake Dixon. Combining influences of southern rock, hard rock and alternative music, the band was first heard on a 2005 EP, produced by Skidd Mills (12 Stones, Saliva, Submersed).

Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy one of the most exciting shows and performers of nowadays Hard Rock scene!
I must admit that I wasn’t very impressed with the last couple of Yngwie Malmsteen albums. Yngwie’s playing was never the problem. It just seemed like the last couple of discs lacked good enough songs to keep me interested.
When the news came out earlier this year, that Tim “Ripper” Owens (Judas Priest, Iced Earth) became Yngwie’s new singer, I knew I would not be able to resist picking up Yngwie’s new disc, Perpetual Flame.
When I first listened to Perpetual Flame, I thought Malmsteen’s playing sounded more inspired than normal. Initially I thought Ripper’s involvement may have lifted Yngwie’s spirits to a new level, which in turn, helped this album shine. After a recent interview with Yngwie at HRH, I learned that the music was completed before Ripper came on board. No matter what the reason is, Perpetual Flame is easily one of the best new albums by Yngwie in many years. Ripper Owens voice seems to complement Yngwie’s frenzied fret work better than most singers that have fronted Malmsteen’s Rising Force.
The first four songs (previews available below) on this disc are excellent slabs of metal. Ripper’s voice sounds great, and Yngwie’s guitar work is amazing as always. These are easily some of the best songs of Malmsteen’s long career.
This wouldn’t be a Malmsteen album without a couple of instrumental tracks, and on “Perpetual Flame” you get three, “Caprici Di Diablo”,”Lament” and “Heavy Heart”.
Malmsteen’s guitar licks on “Caprici Di Diablo” will certainly amaze you, and if anything will have have offering up a metal salute to this guitar god. Yngwie even steals the microphone away from Ripper, and sings the lead vocals on the song “Magic City”.
Without question, the perpetual flame still burns inside of Yngwie, and he given us one of the better metal albums of 2008. Highly recommended!

Swedish rockers Fatal Smile, who were scheduled to open for Motley Crue’s Vince Neil, have confirmed that the European tour has been cancelled through their website (www.fatalsmile.com).
We’re really sorry to inform you that the rumours are true: Vince Neil of Motley Crue cancelled the whole European tour just one day before the tour should kick off… And since we’re in this rock’n roll business we’re not really surprised…Shit happens!!!
But this can’t stop FATAL SMILE from kicking ass in Europe, so please check the “Tour” dates at www.fatalsmile.com for latest update regarding this. More dates to come…
Many thank’s for all your mails and support and we really hope to see ya all out there!!!
Love & Rock’n Roll!!!
// Y, Blade, Alx & Zteff
As we have learned this morning, the European tour of VINCE NEIL got canceled!
The offical statement for the tour cancellation refers to as the rejection of the Spanish promoter for the three scheduled shows in Barcelona, Bilbao and Madrid. For organizational reasons this has affected the whole European tour. The management of VINCE NEIL thereupon decided to cancel the tour.
This decision at short notice has hit us like a hammer stroke! All involved parties have tried their best to still let the tour happen, even the tour promoter didn’t give up until the very last minute! Thanks for that!
Since FATAL SMILE were already on their way to Spain for starting the tour at this time, there was nothing they could do, but to take notice of this sad news.
We are very sorry for all the FATAL SMILE-fans out there. At the moment, we are trying to reschedule or extend the confirmed solo-shows of FATAL SMILE in Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and Holland. Thanks to the great feedback of the local promoters we will be able to add some shows and to prepone others!!! Please take the updates from our websites www.b-musik-management.de and www.fatalsmile.com
To all winners of the meet & greets: Wir are very sorry for the inconviniences and we are working on making the meet & greets to happen on the next European tour of FATAL SMILE, which will take place early 2009. FATAL SMILE won’t disappoint any of their fans!

With the recent #1 independent release from MÖTLEY CRÜE (the label scored the #2 position last year with SIXX: A.M.‘s “The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack” and BUCKCHERRY‘s platinum and Grammy-nominated“15”), Eleven Seven continues to build on its model of research-based marketing strategies targeted directly to the fans and building out from that base. At rock radio, SIXX: A.M.‘s “Life Is Beautiful” was the most played song of the year. Helmed by President Nikki Sixx, the label’s roster includes MÖTLEY CRÜE, BUCKCHERRY, SIXX: A.M., TRAPT, DROWNING POOL, MARION RAVEN, THE LAST VEGAS, CHARM CITY DEVILS and THE EXIES.

“It’s so gratifying to see that iTunes‘ critics agree that Eleven Seven Music rocks as we continue our commitment to creating great rock music,” notes label President Nikki Sixx.
Eleven Seven Music has proven to be the leader in creating lucrative partnership deals and identifying new ways to distribute content. As one of the first companies to offer a single for download simultaneously on the popular video game, Rock Band as well as through traditional retailers, earlier this year Eleven Seven Music released “Saints of Los Angeles”,MÖTLEY CRÜE‘s first single from their new album of the same name. The track sold more than five times the number of downloads through Rock Band as it did on iTunes in its first week. Through persistence and innovation, Eleven Seven Music has become the #5 mainstream rock label and the #2 overall independent rock label.
EW.com has posted Stephen King’s Top 10 albums of 2008. The author of such horror classics as “Cujo”, “Carrie”, and “the Shining” definitely saved the best for last in his Top 10. While the majority of his list is filled with musicians such as Lindsay Buckingham, Coldplay, and Randy Newman. King picked AC/DC’s “Black Ice” as his #2 pick and Buckcherry’s 4th album “Black Butterfly” tied for the #1 slot with the Pretenders “Break Up the Concrete”. Concerning “Black Butterfly” King wrote “Black Butterfly was the best hard-rock album I heard this year (with one sweet and unforgettable song called ”All of Me”)”. America’s most diverse hard rock festival just keeps getting better. That’s because national recording artists Saliva and Tantric have joined the already impressive Rock Gone Wild lineup. Classic Glam rockers Tigertailz will also bring their unique presence to the festival. Rock Gone Wild is slated for August 20-23, 2009 in Algona, Iowa. Tickets are available now by visiting www.rockgonewild.com.
Mainstream rock stars Saliva are no strangers to the Billboard charts. As the band prepares to release their new album Cinco Diablo on Island later this month, Saliva will look to repeat past album success. Five albums, platinum records and many sold-out shows later, Saliva promises an in-your-face set on the main stage at Rock Gone Wild. Saliva is Josey Scott, Wayne Swinny, Dave Novotny, Paul Crosby and Jonathan Montoya.
Tantric rock harder with each passing year. Forming in 1999, the band has released three albums, reaching the much-coveted platinum status. Fans love the band’s self-titled debut, featuring the hit single “Breakdown.” Around for about a decade, Tantric has evolved and now embraces a heavier sound and invites an active pit at shows. The band released The End Begins earlier this year on their new label Silent Majority. Tantric is Hugo Ferreira, Richie Monica, Joe Pessia, Erik Leonhardt and Marcus Ratzenboeck.
Tigertailz bring an international flair to Rock Gone Wild. The Wales-based band formed in the 1980s and instantly gained fans, thanks in part to their image. Heavy make-up and wild hair became the calling card of Tigertailz. It doesn’t hurt that the band creates songs with memorable hooks. Tigertailz has released eight albums, with Bezerk spawning the band’s signature tune “Love Bomb Baby.” Tigertailz are Kim Hooker, Jay Pepper and Matt Blakout.
Thousands are expected to attend the inaugural Rock Gone Wild festival, bringing significant revenue to the state of Iowa. Bands already announced for Rock Gone Wild include Puddle of Mudd, Skid Row, Kix, Great White, Hardcore Superstar, Lizzy Borden, Dangerous Toys, Helix, Saigon Kick, Rhino Bucket and Junkyard with many more to come!
Rock Gone Wild will take place at the Freedom Park festival grounds, located at 2507- 160th Avenue in Algona, Iowa.
If you build it, they will rock.
Yesterday (Monday, December 1st) was the 15th Anniversary of the death of singer Ray Gillen. I remember Ray best for the time he spent with Jake E. Lee in the band Badlands. I am still very fond of the three albums released by Badlands and I still listen to all of them today.
Rest in Peace Ray! You are missed!
The following videos are from Ray’s time as singer in Badlands.

Limited Edition Package Contains Early 1997 Bonus Concert From Hollywood’s Famous Whiskey On Sunset Strip
Los Angeles-based metal quartet Static-X have just announced the release of their first full-length live concert DVD, entitled Cannibal Killers Live, which will be released by Reprise Records on October 7th, 2008. The footage was shot during a show in Spokane, WA, on June 2, 2007, shortly after the release of the band’s latest studio album Cannibal. The 17-song set compiled from the tour includes material from Static-X’s entire 14-year career, showcasing old favorites like “Push It” and “Bled For Days,” along with newer songs from Cannibal, like the album single “Destroyer” and everything in between. Wayne Static, who dubs his brand of metal “evil disco,” posted the following message to fans on the band’s website: “Cannibal Killers Live looks and sounds absolutely awesome and I can’t wait to share it with you!”
A complete video history will also be included in the special package, with every video Static-X has ever made, along with an audio CD of the concert (track listing below). In addition, a limited-edition package will be released on October 7th that includes a bonus DVD featuring the band’s 1997 concert at Hollywood’s famous Whiskey A Go-Go club, which was recorded two years prior to the release of Static-X’s platinum-selling debut Wisconsin Death Trip. Pre-order details will be announced shortly on the band’s website.
Static-X garnered rave reviews for their appearances on the mainstage at Ozzfest 2007. The Los Angeles Times praised them for pumping out “a tight, ultra-loud set of rhythm-obsessed ‘evil disco’.” The Seattle Post-Intelligencer noted that their “straight-up sonic brutality through feverish riffs and rhythmic bombasts cast shrapnel-like grenades into the audience,” while the O.C. Register raved: “Static-X found its groove early on, amping up the crowd with its brand of hyperactive dissonance.”
Cannibal, which was released April 3, 2007, debuted at Number 36 on Billboard’s Top 200 album chart, selling more than 30,000 its first week out. The album has gone on to sell more than 160,000 copies, solidifying the band’s place as one of the metal’s pre-eminent artists.
Static –X, which is Wayne Static (vocals, guitar, programming), Tony Campos (bass, backing vocals), Koichi Fukuda (lead guitar, keyboards, programming) and Nick Oshiro (drums) will go into the studio this fall for work on their sixth studio album, to be released in 2009.

In case you don’t know Syrym is a Bay Area based band made up with former Babylon A.D. members Ron Freschi on guitars and Jamey Pacheco on drums, along with vocalist Jeffrey Winslow and bassist Rich Talley. Back in the day I was split in my opinion on Babylon A.D. I loved their debut album but “Nothing Sacred” had a few good songs but nothing special. I really wasn’t sure what to expect with this album. Much to my surprise Syrym has a pretty damn good album on their hands. Let me say first that Freschi’s guitar playing on this disc all the way through is outstanding.
“Foul Mouth Blues” gets us started with a heavy throbbing groove from the rhythm section of Pacheco and Talley with Winslow singing in a slow almost growl. Freschi’s solo here is the first of many impressive solos on this album, a good way to open the album up.
The guys pick up the pace a little bit more on “Warpath”, once the song kicks in it has a great hard driving groove. I think you’ll find it very hard to resist playing a little air guitar or drums on this song.
“Torn in Two” finds us getting a little more heavier but still maintaining the ability to sing along with the band. Freschi puts on another great display of his guitar skills.
While the first three songs remind me a lot of early Lynch Mob songs “Ugly on the Inside” drifts more in Babylon A.D. territory and it is easily one of the best songs on the album. It has great sing a long chorus and the whole band sounds in sync with one another. I hope this song finds it way to radio
“30 & Dirty” has a sleazy groove to it that hearkens back once again to Babylon A.D. and you can’t help but want to tap your foot along to it.
“Foul Mouth Blues” was a good song to open the album but “While America Sleeps” would’ve been a great song to open this album up. If Freschi never got to flex his guitar playing muscle on any Babylon A.D. albums he definitely does with Syrym, he definitely earned my respect for his playing here.
“What I’m Trying To Say” is a ballad that not only closes the album, it completely changes the direction of this album. It is a pretty emotional song about a parent trying to explain to their child that the parents divorce is not the child’s fault. Acoustic guitars and piano fill this song and it has a very Journey like feel to it. Another very good song.
As far as the rest of the album is concerned “Brokedown”, “the Sky is Falling”, “Alive in the Real World”, and “Bring It On (Go Down Fighting)” are all good songs with “Bring It On” being my favorite.
Any fans of Lynch Mob, Babylon A.D., or Lillian Axe will find plenty of reasons to love Syrym, but fans of heavy and melodic late 80s/early 90s rock will also find plenty of reasons to pick Syrym up. Definitely worth the price of admission.

RECORD label bosses are fuming after GUNS N’ ROSES frontman AXL ROSE went missing for two months – costing the band a No1 album.
After spending 15 years and £15million recording their big comeback Chinese Democracy, only top spot was good enough.
But they lost out to THE KILLERS’ Day & Age in Sunday’s UK album chart rundown — with BRANDON FLOWERS’ group notching up sales of 200,000 during the week — 80,000 more than Guns N’ Roses.
Bosses at label Geffen are blaming unpredictable Axl for the disappointing sales after he went AWOL for two months before the release date.
Despite all the effort put into one of the most extravagant rock albums of all time, staff could not contact Axl to get him to promote his rock epic.
In fact, they failed to make contact with him from the day he delivered the final cut.
Chinese Democracy’s first week US sales are between 300,000 and 500,000. Yet their 1987 debut album Appetite For Destruction went on to sell a staggering 28million, so they have a long way to go with their new effort.
An insider said: “Everyone knows Axl is a bit of a maverick genius and won’t do anything he doesn’t want to do.
“The label is really glad to have him back. But it is frustrating because the album would have had a much better chance of going to No1 if he had only been prepared to show his face.
“People have been trying to contact him for two months and he’s been completely AWOL.
“You would have thought after spending 15 years on an album you might do a few weeks promotion.”
Better news for the label’s bean counters is the elusive Axl is rumoured to be trying to get the band’s first line-up back together.
Guitarist IZZY STRADLIN has said he is keen to see the original members back together and axe legend SLASH’s involvement in his current band VELVET REVOLVER looks shaky after they were dropped by their label.
If Axl has been spending the last two months of his time reuniting the original members for a world tour, I think Geffen might just forgive him.
As long as they don’t have to wait another 15 years.
Late ’80s/early ’90s hard rock band CIRCUS OF POWER will have its classic 1988 self-titled debut album reissued through Rock Candy Records. The LP, which was originally issued through RCA Records, will be remastered and will include a 14-page booklet as well as a 4,000-word essay about the band.
Swedish rockers VIOLENT DIVINE will release their new album, “In Harm’s Way”, on January 31, 2009 via Misty Recordings. The CD was mixed and produced by Pontus Norgren, guitarist of Swedish metal act HAMMERFALL. It was a natural choice to work together with a highly acclaimed sound engineer and musician like Pontus Norgren, with his extensive experience both live and studio with bands like EUROPE and YNGWIE MALMSTEEN. VIOLENT DIVINE and Pontus Norgren share a lot of musical influences like OZZY OSBOURNE, MÖTLEY CRÜE and ACCEPT, to name just a few.
According to a press release, “In Harm’s Way” is “a massive hard rock album, mixing heavy metal, glam and classic hard rock, featuring 12 strong tracks in the true spirit of VIOLENT DIVINE.”
A single and video, “Blackheart”, will precede the album release on January 8, 2009.

Billboard.com is reporting that Creed is hammering out details for a lucrative 2009 reunion tour, sources tell Billboard. The Scott Stapp-led group, which was one of the top sellers of the past decade, has not performed since a rancorous split in June 2004.
Stapp promptly embarked on a solo career, while guitarist Mark Tremonti, drummer Scott Phillips and original bassist Brian Marshall formed Alter Bridge with vocalist Myles Kennedy and released two albums. The 2004 Wind-Up debut, “One Day Remains,” sold 496,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan; a 2006 follow-up for Universal, “Blackbird,” has moved 227,000.
However, Kennedy is rumored to be the top contender to replace Robert Plant for a tour with Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones. And following a recent USO tour performing for American servicemen oversees, Stapp is said to be in prime physical and mental condition.
As such, there are “significant dollars” on the table for a Creed trek, according to sources close to the situation, who say an official announcement could be imminent. A spokesperson for Wind-Up tells Billboard, “There have been some talks, but it would be premature to comment on them at this time.”
Creed has sold 26.1 million albums in the United States since 1997, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The group was also a significant touring presence, having grossed more than $70.3 million from 220 shows reported to Billboard Boxscore between Nov. 1997 and Dec. 2002.
