Surefire Machine is based out of Toronto Canada. Comprised of Rail Road Wilson vocals/guitar, guitarist Zeke, Bones Bowman on bass, and Jonny Fantastic on drums. The roots of Surefire Machine go back to 2004 when Rail Road and Zeke got into a fight with each other. After releasing two e.p.’s and touring Western Canada with their former band Tarbender, the guys decide to head east to Toronto where they eventually hooked up with Bowman and Fantastic and Surefire Machine was born. The guys released their debut self titled album late last year and an ass kicking it is.
If you are looking for soft and sweet ballads you’ll need to keep on looking because you will not find that with these guys. But songs like “Blue Bloods”, “Hot Leaded Woman”, “Trucker’s Trade” and “69 Nova” are guaranteed to get your blood pumping and your head banging. The best way to describe Surefire Machine’s sound is ZZ Top meets Lynyrd Skynyrd with Lemmy from Motorhead on vocals. You can check out songs from their debut and download their album for free by visiting www.myspace.com/surefiremachine.
You can also visit http://www.surefiremachine.com/to get all the latest news for the band. If you like your rock n’ roll loud, in your face, with plenty of attitude, Surefire Machine is just the band for you.

The Grammy Awards recently chose The Mars Volta, over established hard rock acts like Disturbed, Judas Priest, Motley Crue and Rob Zombie for best Hard Rock Performance. The Mars Volta? Seriously? I have heard of this band, but haven’t heard a tune by these guys. Considering how many bands we cover at HRH, I found this pretty amazing.
I decided to check out the Grammy Award Winning “Wax Simulacra” to see what it is about. Check out the video below, and tell us if The Mars Volta and “Wax Simulcra”, should SINK or SWIM!
Pennsylvania-Based Rock Outfit to Herald Release With Full-Tilt, Non-Stop Live Schedule, Including Major Tours Alongside Shinedown, Saliva, and Black Stone Cherry; “HALESTORM” Arrives in Stores and Online on April 28th
Atlantic Records has announced the upcoming release of the self-titled first album from Halestorm. The new rock outfit’s full-length debut — which includes the single, “I Get Off” — will be available in stores and via all online retailers on April 28th.
“HALESTORM” will be available at the band’s live shows and for pre-order via the Pennsylvania-based band’s official website, www.halestormrocks.com, and official MySpace page, www.myspace.com/halestorm, beginning on February 24th. All fans pre-ordering “HALESTORM” will immediately receive a digital download of the complete album with the option to receive the physical copy on the release date.
Produced by Howard Benson (Daughtry, My Chemical Romance, Flyleaf), “HALESTORM” is an explosive collection of infectious hard rock anthems, a fiery flurry of sexy hooks and rough and tumble grooves. Steering this runaway train is dynamic singer/guitarist Lzzy Hale, who brings a hypnotic intensity to such tracks as the sensual “I Get Off” and “Bet U Wish U Had Me Back.”
“This album has been a long time coming,” says Lzzy. “There’s been a lot of dirty work that went into making it. Creatively, we went to rock ‘n’ roll college through the experience. It was crazy, raw, down and dirty. Our blood, sweat, and tears went into this thing.”
Halestorm has slated an all-out tour schedule to herald the album’s release. The dates kick off on February 19th with a performance alongside Avenged Sevenfold at Indianapolis’ Egyptian Room (see itinerary below). From there, the band will take to the road alongside Shinedown, beginning February 25th at The Music Farm in Charleston, South Carolina, and then running through an April 4th tour finale at Hampton Beach, New Hampshire’s Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom.
Formed in 1998 by Lzzy and her brother, drummer Arejay Hale, Halestorm has made its bones as a major league hard rock outfit via countless North American gigs alongside such like-minded artists as Shinedown, Seether, Flyleaf, and Trapt. 2006 saw the release of Halestorm’s debut Atlantic EP, “ONE AND DONE,” which expertly captured the intensity and energy of the band’s live show.

Live Nation (NYSE: LYV) and Ticketmaster Entertainment (“Ticketmaster”) (NASDAQ: TKTM) today announced that they have entered into a definitive merger agreement to create the world’s premier live entertainment company. The combined entity, which will be called Live Nation Entertainment, joins Live Nation’s concert promotions expertise with Ticketmaster’s world-class ticketing solutions and artist relationships to improve the live entertainment experience and drive major innovations in ticketing technology, marketing and service. Live Nation Entertainment will have the tools to expand access, improve transparency and deliver artists and fans more choice – driving greater attendance at live events and bringing more value to all major constituents in the industry.
The companies will be combined in a tax-free, all-stock merger of equals with a combined enterprise value of approximately $2.5 billion. Under the agreement, Ticketmaster shareholders will receive 1.384 shares of Live Nation common stock for each share of Ticketmaster they own, subject to certain adjustments defined within the agreement. Live Nation and Ticketmaster shareholders will each own approximately 50 percent of the combined company. The new company anticipates generating approximately $40 million of operating synergies through the combination of their ticketing, marketing, data centers and back-office functions. The merger agreement was approved by both companies’ boards of directors.
Barry Diller, Chairman of Ticketmaster Entertainment, said, “It was less than two months ago that Ticketmaster ended its 10-year partnership with Live Nation, and I’m extremely glad we could reunite with this combination. No different from any other industry, the challenges are all around every aspect of live entertainment. Being able to put Live Nation and Ticketmaster into an equal partnership will allow the companies to get through this difficult period and be able to expand live entertainment options to audiences throughout the world.”
Michael Rapino, CEO of Live Nation, said, “This combination will drive measurable benefits to consumers and accelerate the execution of our strategy to build a better artist-to-fan direct distribution platform. As every industry observer knows, too many tickets go unsold and too many fans are frustrated with their ticket-buying experiences. The current inefficiencies in the system result in higher costs and confusion over access to seats. Together, we will work to simplify the ticketing process and ultimately increase attendance at live events. This is also a logical step in the evolution of our business model, creating a more diversified company with a stronger financial profile that will drive improved shareholder value over the long term.”
Irving Azoff, CEO of Ticketmaster Entertainment, said, “This merger, and the resources of these combined companies, will create a new dynamic and unique creative platform of choice for fans across all levels of the live entertainment experience. There is nothing more magical than the bond and the intimate relationship of fans to artists. It is truly an experience that needs to be embraced and nurtured with both integrity and respect. One of the mandates of the combined company will be to develop that bond to unsurpassed levels. Additionally, the Live Nation and Ticketmaster relationship will allow the live entertainment community and their respective venues to reach fans on unparalleled platforms. I look forward to working closely with Michael Rapino and the Live Nation team during this exciting and industry changing time.”
By integrating these two businesses, Live Nation Entertainment can work to:
Improve Access and Transparency
By uniting an artist, promoter and ticketing company under a combined banner, the new entity will be positioned to address the challenges of serving fans better at the point of the initial ticket sale with more options and better access.
Improve Ticket Pricing Options
The merger will enable more innovative and dynamic promotion arrangements that create more choice and a more fan-friendly purchasing experience. As an example, the Eagles’ recent all-inclusive pricing initiative was favorably received by the public as well as the broader industry.
Invest in Better Ticketing Technology
The combination will enable increased R&D investment and the sort of technology advances that improve the ticketing experience for consumers and deliver best-in-class solutions to artists, other content owners and venues. Live Nation Entertainment will be better positioned to deliver technological advances such as paperless ticketing as well as interactive seat access and mobile delivery.
Increase Event Attendance
A very substantial portion of the tickets put on sale to the public for live events goes unsold. The new company will be positioned to take full advantage of its combined online resources, databases and promotional operations to strengthen and enhance the direct connection between artists and fans. This will create opportunities to improve attendance at events, benefiting venues and supporting a healthier live entertainment industry.
The combined company will be led by Barry Diller as Chairman of the Board, Michael Rapino as CEO and President of Live Nation Entertainment and Irving Azoff as Executive Chairman of Live Nation Entertainment and CEO of Front Line. Live Nation Entertainment’s board will consist of 14 directors, seven from each company. The companies will continue to operate independently until the transaction is completed and will work together to determine where the combined company’s headquarters location will be as well as to determine additional management appointments prior to closing.
The transaction is subject to approval by both companies’ shareholders, consent of Ticketmaster bank lenders and the satisfaction of customary closing conditions and regulatory review and approvals. The companies expect the transaction to be completed by the second half of 2009.
Goldman, Sachs & Co. acted as financial advisor and Latham & Watkins LLP acted as legal counsel to Live Nation. Deutsche Bank provided advisory services and delivered a fairness opinion to the Board of Live Nation. J.P. Morgan acted as financial advisor and Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz and Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP acted as legal advisors to Ticketmaster. Allen & Company delivered a fairness opinion to Ticketmaster.

Having trod the stages of such events as Lollapalooza, Woodstock 94, Redding, Bonnaroo, Ozzfest, etc. I’ve come to realize that there really hasn’t been an event that truly represents the type of idiosyncratic performers that I am kin to. In my youth I was always scouring the radio, clubs, record stores and concert halls for that group or individual that had new and unique perspectives to music. The freaks.
THE ODDITY FAIRE: A MUTATED MINI-FEST, is just the event where one will encounter such diverse and unique artists. The notion of the festival is to bring together folks that naturally dwell outside the box so that they may perform before a collective audience that is looking for something that hasn’t been cultivated by American Idol or crammed down their throats by the Disney Corporation.
THE ODDITY FAIRE: A MUTATED MINI-FEST is a multi-medium event that will play in intimate environments around the country. The musicians and performers will rotate from region to region. Importantly, the ticket price for a 3-4 hour event will be well within reason given the current state of the economy.
THE ODDITY FAIRE: A MUTATED MINI FEST, a “brain-candy bargain for a recessed age”, promises to be a smorgasbord of irregular and unconventional entertainment for all.
Come on down,
Do you know who Alex Beyrodt is? His name may not ring a bell with most hard rock fans, but it probably should. This criminally under rated guitar player has been playing in the bands Sinner and Silent Force for years. His neo-classical style of play is quite similar to guitar god, Yngwie Malmsteen.
When I first got word of his new side project with David Readman from Pink Cream 69, I knew I would have to check it out. I have been a fan of Readman’s for years, so picking this CD up was pretty much a no-brainer. Alex Beyrodt’s Voodoo Circle is fleshed out with Beyrodt’s band mate from Sinner, Matt Sinner on bass, keyboardist Jimmy Kresic, and Mel Gaynor (Simple Minds) on drums.
If you have ever listened to Pink Cream 69 (shame on you, if you haven’t), you know that David Readman is one of those singers that could sing the phone book and make it sound good. His vocals augment the music from a very talented group of musicians on this disc.
Alex Beyrodt is the true star on this disc. His masterful six string work is the driving force behind these fantastic tunes. There are guitar parts in these songs that are so good, that they will raise the hairs on your arms. Yes, they really are that good. Thanks to the keyboards of Jimmy Kresic, Voodoo Circle’s sound has a classic 80’s metal feel, in the vein of such acts Whitesnake & Rainbow.
There really isn’t a bad song on this disc, and guitar fans like myself will certainly eat it up!
You can preview songs from this CD at the Voodoo Circle website, and the band’s myspace page. If you like what you hear, you can purchase a copy of this CD, at this link. Check it out. You will be glad you did.

Heaven And Hell, the band featuring the post-Ozzy Osbourne members of Black Sabbath, will release its first album under that name, “The Devil You Know,” April 28 on Rhino.
The set is Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice’s first studio release since the 1992 Sabbath album “Dehumanizer,” and was preceded by three new songs on the recent compilation “Black Sabbath: The Dio Years.”
Song titles include “Bible Black,” “Rock & Roll Angel,” “Breaking Into Heaven,” “Atom & Evil” and “Eating the Cannibals.”
Iommi told Billboard last summer that “it really is Black Sabbath, whatever we do,” but said the artists had chosen to tour as Heaven And Hell “so everyone knows what they’re getting [and] so people won’t expect to hear ‘Iron Man’ and all those songs. We’ve done them for so many years, it’s nice to do just all the stuff with did with Ronnie again.”
I have been a fan of England’s Heaven’s Basement from the beginning, when they were known as both Hurricane Party and Roadstar. But I think the music they have created as Heaven’s Basement is by far superior to anything they have released in the past. Their self titled 6 song e.p. is simply excellent, it has everything a fan of hard rock would want, killer songs, killer hooks, and solos with enough attitude to fill a large room.
Everything gets started with “Tear Your Heart Out”, this song is like a punch in the face that turns into a beating. Bassist Rob Randell lays down a great groove with drummer Chris Rivers as Sid Glover and Jonny Rocker are assaulting you with their twin guitars. Richie Hevanz’s voice sounds like he lives on a steady diet of whiskey and cigarettes and it is a perfect match for the band. This song is a classic example of drop the top, crank the stereo, and sing along at the top of your lungs as you are flying down the road.
“Executioner’s Day” keeps us in the same frame of mind, it may be a little heavier than “Tear Your Heart Out” but it still has a killer groove and Sid Glover absolutely smokes this solo.
If you have been paying attention you should have noticed how many times the word groove pops up and while all six songs on this release are filled with groove but none as much as “Graduation”. Randell and Rivers are absolutely awesome on this song with Glover close behind.
“Saint Routine” and “Fear of Getting Off” both follow the same recipe as the first three songs with the same outstanding results. To wrap up the guys go out just like they came in with all guns blazing with “Reign on My Parade”.
The only complaint I have about this release is there aren’t more songs, especially “No Pity” and “Can’t Let Go” which you can hear on both the band’s myspace page and the official web site. But I understand them not being included because they were written and recorded after the e.p. was released. If this was a full album it would be amazing. But some songs are better than none and this e.p. makes me more excited about the release of a full album from Richie Hevanz and the fellas.
You can BUY the e.p. at this link http://www.backstreet-merch.com/bands/hvnbt/product.asp?item=hvnbt03 and you can check out all of these songs and more at http://www.heavensbasement.com/jukebox.php or the band’s Myspace page www.myspace.com/heavensbasementofficial
You can add Heaven’s Basement to the list of bands that are bringing hard rock back to the spotlight and of the bands on that list Heaven’s Basement may damn well be the best of the bunch.
- Tear Your Heart Out
- Executioner’s Day
- Saint Routine
- Fear Of Getting Off
- Reign On My Parade
Heaven’s Basement is:
Richie Hevans – Vocals
Sid Glover – Guitars
Jonny Rocker – Guitars and Background Vocals
Chris Rivers – Drums
Rob Randell – Bass
Backstagelivemagazine.com has posted an interview with Freakshow’s Tony Franklin and Frankie Banali. In case you haven’t heard Freakshow is a new project made up with vocalist Markus Allen Christopher (Miss Crazy), guitarist Jeff Labar (Cinderella), bassist Tony Franklin (The Firm & Blue Murder), Frankie Banali (Quiet Riot) on drums. Here is a portion of BSL’s interview.
TFL: ‘Freakshow’ is your latest musical project – how did your part in this project come to fruition?
FB: My initial musical involvement was a very straight forward affair. Markus asked me when I would be available to come in and lay down drum tracks and I let him know what my available times were. Once we sorted the time frame out, he sent me I think three or four songs that he had as drum machine demos that were very well done. I flew up to San Jose4 where Markus is based out of and started to work. He had budgeted three days for pre-production and three tracking days. We completed the pre-production in one rehearsal, just he and I, and then I recorded the 10 tracks in two evening sessions. One was a seven hour session including set up, miking, getting drum sounds and tracking the drums for seven of the songs. The next evening I recorded the next three songs in about 2 hours. There was a problem with the recording drive which wiped out the very first song I did on day one, so early the next morning before flying back to LA I had to go back in to the studio, set up the drums again and re-cut the first track. The Pro Tools system can sometimes be Pro Fools! There was one additional track, the eleventh one, which was just Markus singing and playing acoustic guitar. I had him send me a MP3 of it and I took that into a studio in LA and added congas, shakers, tambourine and a timpani and sent the files back to him. He liked it and added it when he mixed the record.
TFL: When I spoke with Tony Franklin he mentioned that you contacted him to participate in playing bass for the album. What is it about Tony’s style of bass that drew you to him?
FB: Well, I think it’s a matter of record that Tony, that is MR. FRANKLIN, is my favorite bass player to work with and record with. He is the total package. Great player, very inventive, knows just what to play on every song; you always know it is Tony when you hear him because he is that distinctive and he is a wonderful person. There are four bass players that I have always admired and wanted to work with. Jaco Pastorios, John Paul Jones, Glenn Hughes and Tony Franklin. Since I did actually play one song with Jaco when I was in a south Florida club band and he came up and sat it, I played with Glenn Hughes on the Hughes/Thrall album and a few live shows & having had the opportunity to play live and record numerous sessions with Tony, three out of four has been great for me!
TFL: When I spoke with Markus, he mentioned that there is talk of taking the album on the road to play some live shows. Tony has clearly stated that he will not be playing bass on the road – will you be on the drums Frankie?
FB: It was always understood that Tony would only do the record and not tour. There were no surprises there and no issues. I am very interested in touring with FREAKSHOW. The question really is with the music business being in the state that it’s in, there are a lot of factors that will determine if it will be possible to tour.

Since reuniting in January 2007 to perform a benefit concert, GREAT WHITE has moved forward with the successful release in the summer of the same year of their return album “Back To The Rhythm”, a record which was hailed by critics and fans as a return to the heydays of the band. After a world tour that celebrated the first 25 years of GREAT WHITE and that brought them for 14 concerts to Europe, bass player Sean McNabb opted out and was replaced by Scott Snyder (ex-RAMOS,ACCOMPLICE).
The band (which of course includes longtime members by Jack Russell,Michael Lardie, Audie Desbrow and Mark Kendall) went back to the studio and produced the brand new album “Rising”, once again a tribute to the GREAT WHITE root sound with rock, blues and strong melodic elements.
The soulful, blues-based signature sound that turned songs like “Face The Day”, “Rock Me” and “Save Your Love” into international hits, can also be found on the new songs which are currently being mixed by the band’s keyboard player Michael Lardie.

Ron Keel, the frontman of the band Keel, will be the special guest on Hard Rock Nights on Saturday, February 14th, 2009. Ron will speak about the reunion, the tour, and the new record.
Hard Rock Nights is a weekly radio program on WMWX in Cincinnati, which can be heard online at http://www.classxradio.com. Hard Rock Nights airs on Saturdays from 9-11 pm EDT.
The co-founder of the rock group Saving Abel and another employee of the band are facing charges after authorities say they forced a 17-year-old girl to perform a sex act following a concert in Oakland.
Thirty-three-year-old Jason Null and 21-year-old Brandon Danger were arraigned Friday on charges of forced oral copulation and forced oral copulation on a minor.
Null, a founder and lead guitarist with the group, pleaded not guilty. His attorney says the charges are “baseless” and his client will be exonerated. Danger has yet to enter a plea.
Police say the girl was lured onto the band’s tour bus Tuesday night thinking she would be in a rock video. Once inside, they say she was forced to perform the sex act.

Silver Mountain is a legendary Scandinavian heavy metal group hailing from Malmo in Sweden. They appeared on the scene in late 70’s, only to dominate the 80’s with their original and inspirational music. Over the years they released four LPs and one live album, forever carving their name in heavy metal history. Metal Mind Productions presents the set of exclusive re-releases which brings back a true metal icon:
“Shakin’ Brains” (1983)
The debut album brought a huge dose of electrifying hard rock/heavy metal, clearly inspired by Rainbow, Deep Purple and Iron Maiden. Brilliant guitar work was the key feature of this release, instantly putting Silver Mountain on the top of the list of Swedish metal artists. Such songs as the organ-fueled “Spring Maiden”, the powerful “Destruction Song” and the enchanting piano ballad “King of the Sea” are to this day considered as timeless classics. With “Shakin’ Brains” Silver Mountain proved that Scandinavia has much to offer when it comes to traditional heavy metal. New edition includes 1 bonus track.
Their second album didn’t gain a huge success in Europe, but surprisingly it became a big hit in Japan. The amazing response enabled the band to play an excessive tour over the entire country, which ended in recording a live album called “Hibiya – Live in Japan’85”.
“Roses & Champagne” (1988)
Their third LP did not manage to become as successful as the band expected it to be. Recorded with two new members – Johan Dahlstrom (vocals) and Kjell Gustavsson (drums) – the album was a solid release with a bunch of memorable songs like “Forest of Cries”, “Paradise Smile” and “Not You Baby”. New edition includes 2 bonus tracks.
“Breakin’ Chains” (2001)
In 2000, the original line-up which recorded “Shakin’ Brains” got back together for a couple of shows and eventually decided to make one last album, containing left-over songs from the debut LP’s recording sessions. All songs were rewritten and recorded from scratch, brilliantly joining the old-school feeling with modern technology. “Breakin’ Chains” was released in 2001, immediately becoming a long-awaited metal classic, especially with such amazing songs as “Maniac”, “Axeman and the Virgin” and “Dance Around the Fire”. New edition includes 2 bonus tracks.
Silver Mountain’s re-issues will be available in a new digipak edition, digitally remastered using 24-Bit process on a golden disc. Each title is limited to numbered 2000 copies. The release date is set up for 16th February in Europe and 10th March in USA (via MVD).
The band was first assembled in 1978 by Jonas Hansson (guitar, vocals), Ingemar Stenquist (bass), Morgan Alm (guitar) and Marten Hedener (drums). Taking their name from a song by Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow, the group begun crafting their own style, eventually releasing a single called “Man Of No Present Existence” in 1979. Unfortunately the single didn’t gain much popularity and the band begun to suffer from constant line-up changes. Over the next three years, a large number of local musicians fronted Silver Mountain (including none other than the Swedish guitar hero Yngwie Malmsteen!), until finally in late 1982 a solid line-up has emerged. The group, consisting of Hansson, guitarist Per Stadin, keyboardist Jens Johansson and his brother Anders on drums, played together for almost two years to eventually sign a record deal with the acclaimed label Roadrunner Records. Thus, in March 1983, Silver Mountain’s debut LP – “Shakin’ Brains” – was finally released. The album brought a huge dose of electrifying hard rock/heavy metal, clearly inspired by Rainbow, Deep Purple and Iron Maiden. Brilliant guitarwork was the key feature of this release, instantly putting Silver Mountain on the top of the list of Swedish metal artists.
Unfortunately, soon after the release of the debut LP, Jens and Anders Johansson departed to join Yngwie Malmsteen for the recording of his LP “Rising Force” (later on Jens went on to Stratovarious, while Anders joined Hammerfall). Hansson and Stadin re-employed the band’s original drummer Marten Hedener and along with new vocalist Christer Mentzer and session keyboardist Erik Nielsen they recorded their second album – “Universe” – in 1984. The LP didn’t gain a huge success in Europe, but surprisingly it became a big hit in Japan. The amazing response enabled the band to play an excessive tour over the entire country, which ended in recording a live album called “Hibiya – Live in Japan’85”. The album brilliantly captured the outstanding energy that emerged on that historical night (October 10th, 1985) at the Hibiya Yagai Ongaku-Do. The concert was a major success and brought the band many hopes for the future. Unfortunately, their third LP – “Roses & Champagne”, released in 1988 – did not manage to become as successful as the band expected it to be. Recorded with two new members – Johan Dahlstrom (vocals) and Kjell Gustavsson (drums) – the album was a solid release with a bunch of memorable songs like “Forest of Cries”, “Paradise Smile” and “Not You Baby”. Nevertheless, the poor sales forced Silver Mountain to disband in 1989…
After splitting up, most of the musicians went on to different projects, while founder Jonas Hansson concentrated on composing soundtracks and his solo career, forming the Jonas Hansson Band. But the legend of Silver Mountain was not forgotten – in 2000, the original line-up which recorded “Shakin’ Brains” got back together for a couple of shows and eventually decided to make one last album, containing left-over songs from the debut LP’s recording sessions. All songs were rewritten and recorded from scratch, brilliantly joining the old-school feeling with modern technology. Finally, “Breakin’ Chains” was released in 2001, immediately becoming a long-awaited metal classic, especially with such amazing songs as “Maniac”, “Axeman and the Virgin” and “Dance Around the Fire”. The band called it quits after this release, officially closing the last chapter of Silver Mountain’s history. Or did they?…
Whatever the future may bring, it is still good to look back at the past from time to time. This collection of re-released Silver Mountain albums brings a truly epic dose of prime classical heavy metal and captures all the best moments of one of the few Swedish legends who managed to make a difference in the metal world. So sit tight and buckle your seatbelts, as Silver Mountain takes you for a ride of your life!
Band Welcomes Back Original Guitarist Wayne Lozinak; Splitting With Guitar Player Sean Martin
Hardcore metal pioneers HATEBREED are set to release their long-awaited new covers album, “FOR THE LIONS,” on Tuesday May 5th, 2009 via E1 Music (formerly KOCH Records). This new release is the follow-up to the band’s #1 Billboard charting DVD, “LIVE DOMINANCE” (released September of 2008) which left fans “Picking their teeth up off the floor” and “sounding immense” according to Outburn.
The songs on “FOR THE LIONS” were carefully selected by HATEBREED to represent a panoramic view of some of their favorite artists and greatest musical inspirations. Having completed the album in 2008, the band felt their work wasn’t done yet and just returned to the studio with original guitar player Wayne Lozinak to record additional tracks for the album. The 4 new covers are among the most bludgeoning the band has yet to record. These include, “Ghosts Of War” (Slayer), “Supertouch/Sh**fit” (Bad Brains), “Thirsty” (Black Flag) and “Suicidal Maniac” (Suicidal Tendencies).
“FOR THE LIONS” was produced, engineered and mixed by long-time band associate Zeuss.
For a preview of “Suicidal Maniac,” please click on www.myspace.com/hatebreed.
In additional HATEBREED news, the band announces the departure of guitar player Sean M. Martin, welcoming back to the fold original guitarist Wayne Lozinak.
Front man Jamey Jasta says, “I speak on behalf of all of us and we support Sean’s decision to leave and want him to be happy and successful at everything he does. There are no bad feelings at all and you’ll probably see him hanging on stage at some of our local shows. We’re family and he will be missed but HATEBREED will forge on.”
Sean M. Martin comments, “After 10 years, I’ve decided to leave HATEBREED. This in no way reflects my personal relationship with Jamey, Chris, Matt and Frank; they’re four of my closest friends and I’ll always love them with all my heart. I want to thank all of the fans as well as the guys in the band and crew, past and present, for giving me some of the best times of my life.”
HATEBREED will play a special one-off show on May 1st at Toad’s Place in New-Haven, CT, performing songs from the forthcoming covers album and of course, long-time favorites.
HATEBREED will also be kicking off a short world tour appearing at the following European Festivals:

Edsel Dope and Company to Release E1 Music Debut on March 10th; Dope Hits the Road With Black Label Society March 3rd
In the ever-changing world of rock music, one band has held a steady hand. Living in a world of their own design, and made for their fans, DOPE has managed to lay waste to comparisons, musical or otherwise, since their creation a decade ago. The Chicago-based rockers have, in the words of their frontman and band namesake Edsel Dope, “seen it all.” And it’s this attitude from which the band draws upon on “No Regrets,” their fifth album, and first for E1 Music (formerly known as KOCH Records). “‘No Regrets’ is not only a commentary on where we have been, but also where we are headed,” says Dope.
Layered with the signature sound that defines the band, “No Regrets” is a showcase in musicianship and songwriting that the band has honed over the years. The songs on “No Regrets” encompass the “kick in the rear and dare you to have fun” vibe that DOPE fans have come to expect. The sex, dope, and rock n’ metal energy oozes through “No Regrets” — much like the pentatonic scale runs through modern-day guitar hero Zakk Wylde’s fingertips. Wylde, who first met the band when they supported his Black Label Society tour in 2007, makes an appearance on the first single, “Addiction.” Other tracks like “Violence,” “6 6 Sick,” and “We Are” take us back to the root of the band’s sound, but with an obvious shot of technical adrenaline. The dark and gloomy “My Funeral” and raunchy “Dirty World” are a somber change of pace, while “No Regrets” and bonus tracks, “Nothing For Me Here” and “I Don’t Give A…,” continue to showcase the wide spectrum of influences that DOPE drew from when creating this album.
First single, “Addiction,” is garnering praise on the airwaves with early adds at KXXR in Minneapolis, KUPD in Phoenix, WIIL in Chicago, KHTQ in Spokane, KXFX in Santa Rosa, KBRE in Merced and at WJJO in Madison. In Madison, “Our third hometown — after New York and Chicago,” says Dope, the track is getting top 5 phones. The track impacts radio on Tuesday, February 10.
Enlisting video directors, Dale “Rage” Resteghini (MudVayne, Shadows Fall, Trivium, Unearth) and Kevin Custer (Kingdom Of Sorrow, Gas Light Anthem, Hatebreed) for “Addiction,” the video is “an aggressively shot film that we are placing just about everywhere, so look for it now,” says Dope. If that isn’t enough, the band rolls out across North America on Black Label Society’s “Black Label Bash,” alongside Black Label Society and Sevendust beginning March 3rd in San Francisco.
With all the early praises, it’s clear asking if DOPE indeed has no regrets is flat out unnecessary. As a musician this immersed in what he lives and breathes, he would never in a lifetime be so disingenuous to actually affix his latest and greatest work with that moniker if he indeed had. DOPE’s mission with “No Regrets” is simple — “to release a record for the fans but also has enough hooks, energy and good times to engage a new group of disciples with each and every listen,” says Dope.

When I received the news of a new Saxon CD coming out last fall, I put “Into the Labyrinth” onto my must purchase list of 2009. Saxon’s last album”The Inner Sanctum” was one of my favorites of 2007. Needless to say, I have been anxiously awaiting this CD.
“Into the Labyrinth” has everything I would expect from a Saxon release. It has a good balance of power and classic heavy metal. Biff Byford and company do not reinvent the wheel with this release, and quite frankly, I wouldn’t want them too. Saxon’s sound hasn’t changed much over the years, and I am grateful that they can still put out a heavy metal album of this caliber.
Saxon has always managed to create some huge stadium anthems that always hit home with me. On Inner Sanctum, there was “Need For Speed” and “I’ve Got To Rock To Stay Alive”. On Into the Labyrinth Saxon has created some new treasures with the songs and “Live To Rock” and “Slow Lane Blues”. The fun doesn’t stop there though. “Into the Labyrinth” is full of headbanging good tunes that are likable on the first listen.
Saxon blasts out the quality metal with cool songs like “Battalions of Steel”, “Demon Sweeney Todd”, “Valley of the Kings” and “Crimes of Passion”. Paul Quinn shreds like crazy on this disc, and Nigel Glockler’s drum work shines on this album. He proves to be a very under rated drummer. Why don’t we hear more about this guy? Biff Byford is one of those great metal singers who’s voice has aged well. He hasn’t lost much if anything off of his voice, and sounds great once more.
These stalwarts from the NWOBHM have released the best new metal CD of 2009 so far. If you have been a Saxon fan in the past, this CD will not disappoint you. I believe Saxon has topped their last CD, “The Inner Sanctum”. Like a fine wine, this band only seems to get better with age. I can’t wait to see these guys at the Rock Gone Wild festival in 2009!
- Battalions of Steel
- Live To Rock
- Demon Sweeney Todd
- The Letter
- Valley of the Kings
- Slow Lane Blues
- Crime of Passion
- Premonition in D Minor
- Protect Yourselves
- Come Rock of Ages (The Circle is Complete)
- Coming Home (Bottleneck Version)
Biff Byford – Vocals
Nibbs Carter – Bass
Paul Quinn – Guitars

Axl Rose has said that there is no chance that he and his former Guns N’ Roses bandmate Slash will reunite – saying that one of the pair will “die” before such an event could occur.
The frontman told Billboard that the dispute between the pair would never be healed. He went on to say that Guns N’ Roses, in its current guise, could tour in the near future.
“In regards to Slash,” he said, “I read a desperate fan’s message about, ‘What if one of us were to die, and looking back I had the possibility of a reunion now’. My thoughts are, ‘Yeah, and while you’re at the show your baby accidentally kicks a candle and burns your house down, killing himself and the rest of your family.’
“Give me a fucking break. What’s clear is that one of the two of us will die before a reunion and however sad, ugly or unfortunate anyone views it, it is how it is. Those decisions were made a long time ago and reiterated year after year by one man.
“There are acts that, once committed between individuals, they are what they are. To add insult to injury almost day after day, lapsing into year after year, for more than a decade, is a nightmare. Anyone putting his own personal entertainment above everything else is sickening.”
Speaking about a possible Guns N’ Roses tour, he added, “No plans, but there’s talk. Management and our promoters are really excited with the offers coming in both here and worldwide.”
