0 Twisted Sister’s “Stay Hungry” Gets 25th Anniversary Reissue Treatment

TWISTED SISTER guitarist Jay Jay French has posted the following message at the band’s website:
“A couple of years ago, while playing to 80,000 fans in Quebec after not playing there since 1984, it struck me just how important our album Stay Hungry had become. It broke sales records in 8 countries and the videos made us international stars. Canada especially had gone crazy for the album and bought it at a much greater proportional rate against US sales then any album in recent memory.
We had just released our re-recorded version of it called Still Hungry. While talking to our fans in Canada, it struck me how many still preferred the original Stay Hungry. Maybe, as band members, we were just too close to the whole thing. Maybe we just weren’t seeing it and, more importantly, hearing it through the eyes of the fans who had spent the last 23 years with their ears tuned in to the sound of the original record. I knew that in two years a milestone was approaching. In May of 2009 The 25th anniversary of Stay Hungry would arrive. I started to think of a way to recognize and celebrate the music and the times which had become so important to the lives of not only our millions of fans around the world, but also to acknowledge the importance and relevance of all of the music created by the hard rock bands of that period. What became obvious to me was that just re-mastering the original record was not a reason to re-release it. The only way this could be ‘special’ was to locate any material that was recorded by us at the time and never released so as to make a truly great 2 disc package.
Much to the band’s surprise, Atlantic/Rhino discovered a series of cassettes that comprised almost a whole extra albums worth of material. This original music was part of the ‘demo’ process used in making Stay Hungry. These tapes were recorded in December 1983 at Nino’s studios in Baldwin, LI along with all the songs that wound up on the finished album. I completely forgot that these tapes ever existed. The band barely remembered these songs ever being recorded. Most of the songs, upon fresh listening are shockingly good. Remember, these are demo’s which means that they are unfinished versions of songs. Maybe some day we will actually fully finish and record some of them if you, the fans, yell loudly enough. Don’t ask me why some didn’t make the record, the politics of that question are too deep to get into. Suffice it to say, we are proud of this material and, to make the re-release really special, we also recorded our first new song in 10 years – a song called ’30’.
A remastered Stay Hungry
– ten never heard before songs originally demo’d for Stay Hungry
– five early demos of songs from stay hungry
– one brand new song
– one rare radio spot using ‘SMF’ as the music bed
That is a reason to celebrate an important milestone.
The release date is Tuesday, June 23rd.
We hope you love this package as much as we do.”

1 Bad Company Reuniting For Summer Tour

After gathering for a one-off reunion last August, the surviving members of the original Bad Company — vocalist Paul Rodgers, guitarist Mick Ralphs and drummer Simon Kirke — will play a 10-show tour this summer.
The mostly East Coast dates, which kick off June 17 at the Seminole Hard Rock & Casino in Hollywood, Fla., will herald the release of Bad Company’s “Hard Rock Live” DVD, which was recorded at the same venue in 2008. The DVD will be sold at this summer’s concert, then released to retail on Aug. 8.
Lynn Sorenson, the bassist from Rodgers’ solo band, will step in for the late Boz Burrell, who passed away in 2006. The Doobie Brothers will be opening some of the shows.
Announcing the tour, Kirke said that “we had such a ball playing together again (in 2008) that we have decided to do some selective shows this summer.” Rodgers explained that the shows “are to thank the fans for keeping the music alive” and that the Doobie Brothers were invited to open “because I’ve always loved their music and them as people.”
Ralphs, who will also be playing reunion dates with his previous band, Mott the Hoople, in October, said that “it’s great to be back with Paul and Simon. We made great music together and had the time of our lives doing it. I’m really looking forward to getting back out there this summer.”
There’s no word on whether more dates will be added to the itinerary or not. Rodgers is expected to be on the road later this year with Queen + Paul Rodgers, continuing to support the group’s 2008 release “The Cosmos Rocks.”

June 17: Hollywood, FL (Hard Rock Live)
June 19: Atlanta, GA (Chastain Park Amphitheatre)

1 Tommy Lee Getting Frisky With Reality Star?

Typically, I don’t care who is going out with who in the band scene, but I found a little humor in the following article from the New York Post:
ROCK stars get older, but their groupies hardly age. According to insiders, Tommy Lee (above), 46, is getting frisky with sultry punk rocker and former MTV reality show contestant Natasha Komis, 24.
“Natasha was backstage with Tommy at the Motley Crue concert” at Madison Square Garden the other night, said an eyewitness. “Tommy had kegs of Jagermeister everywhere, and Natasha was all over him.
She was following him around like a puppy dog.” A spokesperson for Lee could not be reached.
I have never seen Natasha Komis before, and I have no idea which MTV reality show she was on, nor do I care. What I found funny was the picture of her that I found online with a quick google search.
In the picture to the left, Komis looks a lot like Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx.
Things that make you say hmmmm.

0 Dope – No Regrets (Release Year – 2009)
“No Regrets” is the long awaited follow-up to Dope’s ’05 release “American Apathy” and the Dope Army have reason to rejoice. The band which is now made up of guitarist Virus, Tripp on bass, Angel on drums, and the mastermind of it all, Edsel Dope on vocals haven’t changed their sound but are definitely working to perfect it. “No Regrets” takes the best parts of the band’s four previous albums and combine them into a sleazy, heavy, hook-laden homage to sex, drugs, “Violence”, and rock-n-roll that will have you moshing and singing along at the same time.
After a 38 second intro called “Flatline” Edsel and the guys get down to business right from the start with the thrasher “6 6 Sick”. Angel beat the drums on this track like his life depended on it while Virus lays down some thick heavy guitar. For track #2 “Addiction” Edsel enlisted some guy named Zakk Wylde to play lead guitar and for his efforts he got the catchiest song not only on the album but the catchiest Dope song I have heard in a long time. “Addiction” should definitely be getting some major radio airplay.
“No Regrets” and “We Are” are two more heavy songs that have Edsel and the guys raging from start to finish. “My Funeral” and “Dirty World” are both great catchy songs with “Dirty World” being the heaviest of the two. Other stand out tracks include “Best For Me” and “Scorn”. You can also get a bonus tracks edition of “No Regrets” which has an awesome cover of Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell”, which the band released a few years ago as a website download. There is also a live track called “Die Boom Bang” which is three songs in one and one more new song “Nothing For Me Here” with a damn good solo from Virus.
One thing I have always liked about Dope is the fact they don’t give the listener time to get bored listening to a 6 or 7 minute opus. Edsel gets in your face says what he has to say and moves on to the next subject. The same holds true with “No Regrets” all of the songs and in the 2 1/2 or 3 1/2 minute range with the title track being the longest clocking in at 3:32 but the energy the guys put into that short time span is amazing, they go from 0 to 150 and never let up til the very end.
Dope will not revolutionize the music world but I don’t think that is Edsel or the band’s intentions. What they will do is give the world some heavy and catchy music that will leave you wanting more and more and who said Dope isn’t addictive?

1 Family Reunion For Metallica?
Metallica is using its upcoming Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction to stage what drummer Lars Ulrich calls “a sort of family reunion.”
“I don’t think there’s a better time to come together than when it’s about celebration,” Ulrich tells Billboard.com. “I think everybody is proud of their association (with Metallica), so we’re reaching out to everybody who’s been a part of this, both inside the band on and on the periphery of the band over the years. And there’s a big group of people coming to Cleveland for the weekend, so I look forward to seeing a lot of people I haven’t seen for a long time.”
The Metallica guest list for the April 4 induction includes staffers from the band’s previous labels, Megaforce and Elektra, journalists and photographers who have been supportive over the group’s career, producers and musician friends. Metallica also invited founding guitarist Dave Mustaine, who is unable to attend, and former bassists Ron McGovney and Jason Newsted, who will. Newsted is also planning to perform with Metallica during the ceremony. Ray Burton, father of the late Metallica bassist Cliff Burton, will accept on behalf of his son.
Guitarist Kirk Hammett says Metallica was inspired to be all-inclusive after it witness Blondie’s acrimonious induction during the 2006 Rock Hall ceremony. “There was so much politics and so much drama,” Hammett recalls, “that we collectively said to each other that if that ever happens and we get inducted…we don’t want any of that, because it kind of really puts a whole bad, sour note on the celebration itself. We said to each other, ‘Let’s celebrate the fact and let’s not turn it into something negative.”
Hammett calls Metallica’s induction “pretty huge,” and both he and Ulrich say they’re pleased the group is being honored while it’s “still a vital band, still somewhat relevant and somewhat active in making records and touring,” according to Hammett. “To be in a position where we are simultaneously being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and putting out a video game (“Guitar Hero: Metallica,” coming out Tuesday), it’s a very, very cool thing.”
“Sometimes,” Ulrich adds, “especially with younger people, one has a tendency to quickly, when accolades come your way, kinda go the cool way and say it doesn’t mean that much, ‘Try me again in 10 years, dahling…I’d much rather be inducted into the Hall of Fame while I’m still conscious enough to experience and enjoy it and certainly more interested than it being 65 years from now or whenever.”
Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea will induct Metallica during the ceremony, which will be broadcast live by Fuse TV. Metallica is taking a break from the European leg of its Death Magnetic tour to attend the ceremony and recently announced a new set of North American dates, starting Sept. 14 in Nashville.

7 The Scream – Let It Scream (Release Year – 1991)
John Corabi where are you now?!? The Scream’s debut “Let It Scream” was my first taste of John Corabi’s excellent vocals. In my opinion, “Let It Scream” was way ahead of its time. The CD was released towards the end of the hair metal era, and The Scream was unfortunately lumped in with a bunch of bands that was not nearly as good. Even when playing this CD today, I can’t really consider this hair metal, as it is so much better than that.
Every song on this disc is very good. From the killer opening cut “Outlaw”, to the rocking “Man In The Moon” to the excellent closing cut, “Catch Me if You Can”, there are plenty of songs to rock out to. Even the ballad, “Father, Mother, Son” is a stand out tune.
Listening to “Let It Scream” in 2009, it makes me wonder what would have happened if John Corabi stayed in the band, instead of joining Motley Crue. His vocals on “Let It Scream” are great. The guitar work of Bruce Bouillet is so good, it surprised me that we haven’t heard more from this guy over the years. I have to buy more of RacerX’s stuff so I can hear him play
more.
Out of all of the projects and bands that John Corabi has been involved in over the years, The Scream remains my favorite out of all of them. “Let It Scream” is a CD that you should seek out if you can find it.
This disc has been re-released a couple of times and is out of print again. It is a shame as it is a great disc, and definitely worth picking up. You can still find some copies at Amazon.com & Ebay. Happy Hunting!

0 New Primal Fear CD “16.6” in June! Audio Samples Available
Frontiers Records proudly announces the release of PRIMAL FEAR new studio album 16.6 (Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead) on May 22nd in Europe and June 9th in the USA.
Anticipated by a successful listening session held in Cologne, Germany, attended by the cream of the European Metal press, the new album is about to bring back Primal Fear to the throne of Heavy Metal. 16.6 is easily the most powerful, ambitious and interesting album in the band’s history. The vibe of songs like the opening track “Riding The Eagle”, “Killbound” or “Under The Radar” are reminiscent of the “Nuclear Fire” album but eh whole album features all the trademarks of the Primal Fear sound a the total dedication to pure Metal. There is also a new approach mixed with the trademark PF riffs in tracks like “Six Times Dead (16.6)”, “Soar”, “Smith & Wesson” as well as the epic stories, consummate musicianship, courage and fantastic melodies in songs like “Black Rain”, “No Smoke Without Fire”, “Torn” and the stylistically new ballad “Hands Of Time” with 4 band members all sharing the lead-vocals.
“Our target was to write and produce the most diverse and interesting album in the history of Primal Fear and combine our past with the future” says Mat Sinner. ”The result went truly beyond our expectations and it will be a huge challenge to play these new songs on stage! The entire band is very proud of 16.6 and we hope all our old and even new fans will be totally satisfied!”
The album was recorded the House Of Music studios with engineer Dennis Ward, mixing engineer Achim Koehler and producer Mat Sinner. Once again Primal Fear display a very high standard of song writing, sound and production. New guitarist Magnus Karlsson and Henny Wolter shine with a new dimension to the guitar work, and lead vocalist Ralf Scheepers reaches a new level to his vocal performances. Nothing can go wrong if you’re backed by one of the best rhythm sections in metal with Randy Black and Mat Sinner and you can hear the result on Primal Fear’s outstanding new message called 16.6!
Some of the feedback gathered from the press after the listening session include:
“Primal Fear top themselves one more time again with their unique mix out of traditional Metal sounds and modern melodic power metal. How can do they that again and again?” – Andreas Schöwe (HAMMER magazine, Germany)
“First impressions: more variety without losing the Metal balls! Fresh blood and ideas combined with the Primal Fear trademarks, outstanding vocal performance by Ralf again and great guitar work by both Magnus and Henny. Some immediate live favourites, other tracks definitely need time to grow, but sound more than promising and won’t disappoint any metal fan that wants more than easy listening stuff” – Martin RömppHEAVY magazine, Germany) (
“To date “16.6.“ is Primal Fear ‘s most diversified record; containing a spectrum from Hard Rock up to double-bass driven Power Metal Songs. But one thing is always consistent – the quality!!! – Gerald Siebenmorgen (ROCK IT magazine, Germany)
“Primal Fear manages to take at least one step forward, one backward and still stand for what Primal Fear always has been standing for – pure metal.” – David Bergström (SWEDEN ROCK MAGAZINE, Sweden)
“As the cover artwork shows, Primal Fear ride fiery bullets, play with demons…and fly on butterfly leaded wings. ‘16.6’ marks the evolution of groundbreaking hard rock and power metal, filled with open-minded styles. The Devil knows they’re alive!” – Filippo Pagani (METAL HAMMER magazine, Italy)

Sami Alho (vocals), Pasi Koivumäki (drums), the original founding members started Free Spirit with the idea to bring melodies, harmonies and breathtaking songs back to rock music instead of being one of those bands where a group of angry men try to shout out that they have “the attitude”. The current line-up also consisting of Vesa Yli-Mäenpää (guitars), Sami Hämäläinen (bass), Marko Haapamäki (guitar), and Timo Alho (keyboards) has been together since 2006.
With such songs as Strangers, Far Away From Heaven, Preacher Man, and Moonlight Ride, “Pale Sister of Light” take you through the real world, dream and illusion, with a sound that is filled with melodies, harmonies, and tight musicianship as it brings you to the roots of nature and its mighty scenery.

1 New Video – AC/DC – Anything Goes
0 Free Download From Marilyn Manson Today!
Marilyn Manson’s anticipated reunion with longtime friend and foil Twiggy Ramirez inches closer with the release of “We’re From America,” the first listen from the forthcoming The High End of Low. Available as a free download March 27th, exclusively on MarilynManson.com, the song will be available as a digital single on April 7th and will preview Manson’s forthcoming seventh studio album landing May 26th.
The album’s official first single “Arma… geddon” will arrive at radio April 13th. Manson’s new lineup including Ramirez (for the first time in close to a decade), plus keyboardist Chris Vrenna, and drummer Ginger Fish, will close the main stage at the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, this July through August. Manson will also kick off his world tour with a headline festival run this June in Europe.
Produced by Manson, Vrenna and Twiggy, The High End of Low was recorded in his Hollywood Hills studio and also features the track, “I Want to Kill You Like They Do In The Movies.” Manson says of the new album, “I think my life definitely ended and began. The record sounds very final, but it’s almost optimistic – though that feels like a strange word to use. It’s a phoenix from the fire and a redemption resurrection.”
Since emerging from South Florida in the early 1990s, Marilyn Manson has continued to upend the mainstream with each new release. The tumultuous relationship Manson has cultivated with the public worldwide has resulted in multi-million records sales, sold-out tours, protests, legal battles, hate, adoration, award-winning distilled spirits (Mansinthe) and most importantly, a long list of some of the most enduring and genre-defying music in the rock era (“Lunchbox,” “Sweet Dreams,” “The Beautiful People,” “Tourniquet,” “The Dope Show,” “This Is The New Shit,” “Mobscene,” “Heart-Shaped Glasses,” etc.)
The first one’s always free… Beginning with a small, slow dose on March 27th with “We’re From America,” the new era of Marilyn Manson and The High End of Low begins now.
0 Warrant’s Joey Allen on Hard Rock Nights Radio Show Saturday Night!
Warrant axe-slinger Joey Allen will be the special guest on Hard Rock Nights this Saturday, March 28. Warrant was one of the biggest party bands in the land in the late 80s/early 90s, and they are still rocking out hard on the road in the 21st century with new singer Robert Mason (formerly of Lynch Mob, Cry of Love, and Big Cock). We’ll speak briefly about Jani Lane’s return to the band and how Robert Mason came to replace him. And can we expect to hear new studio recordings from the band with Mason on vocals? Listen on Saturday to find out!

0 BIGELF ADDED TO PROGRESSIVE NATION TOUR THIS FALL!!!
DREAM THEATER TO TAKE THEIR “PROGRESSIVE NATION 2009” TOUR TO EUROPE / UK IN THE FALL WITH SPECIAL GUESTS: OPETH, BIGELF AND UNEXPECT
New York progressive metal veterans DREAM THEATER will take their PROGRESSIVE NATION tour overseas for the first time with a run through Europe and the UK throughout Sept, Oct and Nov 2009.
PROGRESSIVE NATION founder and mastermind, DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy, once again hand-picked the bands based on musicianship, originality and diversity…not necessarily by popularity and marquee value. He comments: “After the excitement of putting together two very cool PROGRESSIVE NATION packages for North America, I knew it was time to bring the concept overseas and share some of these other great bands with our amazing fans throughout Europe and the UK”.
Joining the tour will be DT’s tourmates from PN08 (and Roadrunner Records labelmates), the legendary OPETH from Stockholm Sweden. Vocalist/Guitarist Mikael Akerfeldt was excited to partake in another PROGRESSIVE NATION experience: “Once my man “The Port” suggested they’re going to bring PROGRESSIVE NATION over to Europe, I more or less begged him to get us on it, haha! We had such a great time doing it in North America and it did many great things for us as a band. It’s fair to say that I can’t wait to get going with this one. It will be a blast, believe me!!”
Los Angeles band BIGELF will bring their unique brand of psychedelic, progressive hard rock to PN09. Vocalist/Keyboardist Damon Fox adds: “When I first met Mike Portnoy, I felt like we were cut from the same cloth, a brother from another mother. We could talk rock & roll for eons (we probably will on tour, hell yeah!). Being added to the PROGRESSIVE NATION tour feels like the planets have aligned for us and the elves have finally come home to Rivendell. The mentality of Dream Theater and PROGRESSIVE NATION reminds me of a quote from the great Willy Wonka, “There is no life I know to compare with pure imagination. Living there, you’ll be free if you truly wish to be…” We eagerly await our return to Northern Europe and on a special note, we have never performed in England. This has driven us completely mad over the years. We are just brimming with passion and excitement to be able to bring our music back to the homeland which has inspired us so deeply.”
2 Great White To Release “Rising” on Shrapnel Records April 21st
TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED
Multi-Platinum rock band Great White, celebrated the 25th anniversary of the band’s inception with the release of BACK TO THE RHYTHM in 2006. The band’s new record RISING is a no holds barred, all original LP that is among their strongest releases to date. The bands new CD is their second studio recording in 10 years and features 11 brilliant new compositions penned by the band.
An international phenomenon, Great White has been reported to have sold in excess of 10 million units internationally, including the double platinum “…Twice Shy,” which spawned the Grammy-nominated Ian Hunter cover of “Once Bitten, Twice Shy.” With other hits such as “Rock Me,” “Face The Day” and “Save Your Love” cranked up around the world, Great White established themselves to the masses as a classic rock band with memorable riffs, steeped in the hallowed tradition of blues and rock and roll.
Eschewing an 80’s production in favor of a retro/modern one, long-time band producer and keyboardist Michael Lardie captures the essence of Great White with a sound that has more in common with the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin than that of their contemporaries. Unlike many bands of the era that are making new records, Great White consists of nearly all original members. The guitar and vocal team of Jack Russell and Mark Kendall are stronger than ever on this explosive new CD and have a unique synergy, not unlike Plant/Page, Tyler/Perry or Jagger/Richards.

0 Anthrax To Perform at 2009 Rocklahoma Music Festival
The celebration of Anthrax’s 25th anniversary is about to begin in earnest, as Anthrax, recognized as one of the founders of thrash metal, with worldwide sales in excess of ten million copies, will bring its brand of New York metal to Oklahoma when they kick off the third annual, four-day Rocklahoma Festival set for July 9 – 12 in Pryor, Oklahoma. Anthrax will headline the festival’s July 9 opening night.
“We want to start the HEAVY DAY at Rocklahoma,” said Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante, “and after we play nothing but heavy f%#*ing metal, Oklahoma will never be the same.”
Anthrax’s Rocklahoma 2009 Festival appearance will be in support of the band’s first new studio album in six years, “Worship Music,” scheduled for a summer release, and the May 12 release of the limited edition, three-record vinyl reissue of the band’s first album, “Fistful of Metal,” which originally came out twenty-five years ago. “Worship Music” will mark the studio debut of new singer Dan Nelson who joins long-time members Benante and Scott Ian (rhythm guitar), Frank Bello (bass) and Rob Caggiano (lead guitar).
The Rocklahoma festival will be Anthrax’s only North American concert appearance until they launch their own major trek here later this year. The Rocklahoma organizers will announce the full July 9 talent lineup next week.
0 Got An Extra $15,000 to Spend?
The original and one of a kind, analog audio master tapes from the Jake E. Lee Solo Record entitled “A Fine Pink Mist” are up for auction on Ebay with a starting price of $15,000 dollars.
There are a total of four (4) 2 inch 24 track Ampex 499 master tapes and also 2 Stereo DAT tapes, which contain rough mixes of the content on the audio masters. Also included, are all the track sheets that describe each audio track on the 24 track masters as well as tempos, etc.
This record was recorded at Juan Croucier’s The Cellar recording studio in 1995, over a six-month period. It was engineered by Juan Croucier and produced by Jake E. Lee. There is a considerable amount of money, hard work and time invested in these masters. They are original and in excellent condition. This recording session was never totally finished and the studio was never paid for the studio time incurred. Therefore, we are offering these masters to anyone who would like to invest in a very rare piece of rock music history.
Jake E. Lee, when on to quickly rerecord this record with another producer and studio. The other version of this record was released sometime in 1996 on Pony Canyon. This is the original version of his “vision” for the record. These tracks were methodically and painstakingly put together before he went over budget. He used over one hundred individual guitar effects peddles on this record – some of which, he built himself.
Jake E. Lee, programmed the drums, played bass, rhythm guitars, lead guitars and more.
There is also a bonus track; a cover version of a Jeff Beck song called Rice Pudding that was recorded for a tribute record to Jeff Beck called Jeffology and features Ray Luzier on drums and Jake performing all the other instruments. This track was engineered and mixed by Juan Croucier.
Check out the auction on Ebay here.
