Unfortuantely one of my favorite bands Thunder will be calling it quits later this year. In honor of the guys who have given me and the world so much great music over the years I give you “Dirty Love” from their album “Backstreet Symphony” and appropriately “Fade Into The Sun” from “The Magnificent Seventh!” and from the DVD “Thunder Go Mad In Japan”. Danny, Luke, Harry, Ben and Chris will be sorely missed.
Call Tora Tora hair metal or southern rock or whatever title you think fits them. One thing is for sure, their debut album “Surprise Attack” is one kick ass record. No matter what genre or label you slap on them, chances are you will love them.
I had the luxury of seeing these guys in their prime, shortly after their record hit the stores, and my god did they kick ass. I have always had a soft spot for “Surprise Attack” since I have seen the band play live in support of this record. It was great when it was released, and it still stands up well today.
Anthony Corder’s high range vocals may be an acquired taste for some, but I like his style. His voice is somewhat unique, and the band backing him up flat out rocks. These Memphis hard rockers may not be the most well known act from the late 80’s, but they are definitely worth checking out.
Surprise Attack has been out of print for years, and it is a real shame. You can sometimes find this disc at Amazon.com and Ebay. Grab it if you can find it, and check out how good this tragically under rated band was. For more information on Tora Tora, check them out on myspace at this link, or at facebook here.

Frontiers Records is delighted to announce the signing of Italian progressive metal band PATHOSRAY for the release of their upcoming second album, “Sunless Skies”.
PATHOSRAY was formed in 2000 by drummer Ivan Moni Bidin and vocalist Marco Sandron, later joined by bass player Fabio D’Amore, keyboardist Gianpaolo Rinaldi, and guitarist Alessio Velliscig. The band released their self titled debut album “Pathosray” through Sensory Records in late 2007, gathering a great response from the Progressive Metal communities all over the world.
In support of the release, PATHOSRAY played a few selected shows around Italy and in September 2008 the guys went to Atlanta, USA to perform for the first time abroad in front of an enthusiastic ProgPower USA Festival crowd. 2 weeks later they played at ProgPower Europe in Holland with similar responses.
The rest of 2008 was spent on writing and recording the new album, “Sunless Skies”, which was recorded at Artesonika Studios in Italy and mixed and mastered in Sweden by Johan Ornborg and Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios (Symphony X, Hammerfall, Opeth, Katatonia etc).
With a new record deal in place and an awesome new album to boot, PATHOSRAY are ready to climb the next step on the Progressive Metal ladder. Bassist Fabio D’Amore commented: “We’re all really happy and excited about the new album and the way how our sound evolved during these 2 years. The new recording deals, with Frontiers Records and Soundholic, will surely give “Sunless Skies” an extra value with the possibility to reach new fans and spreading our music in the best way possible! We’re extremely pleased to have the possibility to work with such respectable companies, also thanks to the amazing job that Intromental Management is doing for us!“
In connection with the upcoming release, set for May 25 in Europe and June 9 in USA on Frontiers/Super D, PATHOSRAY has been confirmed to play ProgPower Scandinavia Festival (alongside Pretty Maids, Freak Kitchen, Mercenary and more) in Copenhagen, Denmark on September 25th, 2009.
“2009 couldn’t have started better than this” said drummer Ivan Moni Bidin on behalf of the band, “the excitement for the invitation to play at Prog Power Scandinavia in Denmark, with such big names, will give us the strength to keep improving and set up the best show possible!”
Final tracklisting of “Sunless Skies” includes:

Monster Magnet hasn’t had much press time at HRH, and for the life of me, I don’t know why. I see very little PR about this band, so I don’t how they are marketed.”Heads Explode” is from the 2000 Monster Magnet Album, “God Says No”.
The Last Vegas seen to have everything needed to be called “the Next Big Thing”. This 5 piece from Chicago, IL won the Guitar Center/Motley Crue “Make Rock History” contest last year, was named Spin Magazine’s Chief Editor’s “Best Discovery” at SXSW and even won the RedOctane “Be A Guitar Hero” in 2006 in which their song “Raw Dog” was included on the Guitar Hero II video game. But the band comprised of Adam D’Arling (Guitar), Chad Cherry (Vocals), Nathan Arling (Drums), Danny Smash (Bass), and John Wator (Guitar) are anything but an overnight sensation. They have been releasing music since 2004 with their debut “Lick ‘Em and Leave ‘Em”. They have followed that with 2 more albums, an E.P., endless touring and are preparing for the release of their new album “Whatever Gets You Off” with the help from producers DJ Ashba, Marti Frederiksen, and Nikki Sixx. They play a modern sounding 70’s glam punk inspired rock with a touch of sleaze, filled with in your face attitude the band uses to grab your attention whether you want them to or not.
On songs such as “I’m Bad”, “High Class Trash”, “So Young, So Pretty, So What”, “Loose Lips” or “Room At The Top” you will find yourself unable to resist singing along or stomping your feet along with Arling’s drums. Only time will tell if the Last Vegas really are the Next Big Thing but they seem to have the determination and the goods and with a management deal from 10th Street Entertainment and a label deal from Eleven Seven Music they are definitely on the right road.
If you haven’t already heard the Last Vegas you can check them out at www.myspace.com/thelastvegas or take a trip to www.thelastvegas.com You can also purchase the band’s music from I-Tunes and Amazon, believe me you will not be disappointed.

The Prince of Darkness may have his title revoked after this one. What was he thinking? What the hell is so metal about a freaking comedy hour on Fox TV? Holy hell! I don’t know if he’s totally lost his mind or if Sharon has completely taken over ALL decisions for the entire honorary family of rock.
Sure, the initial Osbournes reality show on MTV was an intriguing look into this family, but haven’t we had enough? After Sharon’s health problems and the rehab sessions of both Jack and Kelly, shouldn’t we just turn the light off on this whole reality gig Osbournes? Apparently not. Perhaps they’re bored because Ozzfest just isn’t enough to keep them all occupied. Is Ozzfest even happening this summer?
I can’t help but feel that Sharon is the one at the helm of this downward spiral into reality television hell, and she’s not taking Ozzy’s reputation into consideration at all. He’s the Prince of f-ing Darkness for crying out loud. I don’t think there’s anything evil or dark about watching them work in fast food restaurants or watching mini Osbournes with foul mouths. A curse word here and there on public television doesn’t make you dark. Yes, playing silly pranks on people for television is funny, but not when it’s coming from the Prince of Darkness and his family. It’s funny when Ozzy is biting heads off of fake (or real) bats but not when Ozzy is getting a pie in the face.
Maybe that’s what it is. It’s the dichotomy of this “evil” family and comedy. It’s not what you would neccessarily expect from a family of rockers, so the general public would be drawn in to see how they handle all of this. Of course, silliness and mayhem will ensue around this cast of hooligans, and then everyone will laugh.
Will I watch it? Probably. Will I laugh? Probably not. Do I think a little less of Ozzy because of this? Maybe a little.
Is there a rock & roll handbook/rule book anywhere? If not, perhaps I should write one. Or maybe I could write the 10 Commandments of Rock & Roll. One of those rules would be, “Rock stars shall not do reality TV!” And that means you too Bret Michaels.
Today is the 27th Anniversary of the death of Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Randy Rhoads. It is mind boggling to me that it has already been this long since Randy’s passing. After nearly three decades, he is still missed by rock fans all over the world. I can’t even imagine the state rock would be in, if Randy was still here. The videos below only give you a glimpse as to how awesome of a guitarist Randy was. Enjoy!
Highly Anticipated New Album from Dio, Iommi, Butler, and Appice,
Their First in 17 Years, Features Epic First Single “Bible Black”
After finishing several heralded world tours as Heaven & Hell last summer, Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Vinny Appice were tighter than ever before, both musically and personally. Agreeing that it would be a shame to stop making music together at tour’s end, the quartet began writing, first in England at Iommi’s home studio and later in Los Angeles at Dio’s studio. “The band had gotten too good to just walk away,” Dio says. “We wanted to show people that we were still capable of giving them new music that measured up to what we’d done in the past.” With that goal in mind, the band once again converged on Rockfield Studios in Wales last winter, the same place they used 17 years earlier to record their last album, Dehumanizer. The result is the long awaited new album THE DEVIL YOU KNOW, featuring 10 soon-to-be-classic tracks from the Dio-fronted version of Black Sabbath.
The highly anticipated set arrives on April 28 from Rhino for a suggested list price of $18.98 (physical) and $9.99 (digital). It took less than three weeks to finish the album, with most of the songs only needing a couple of takes. “It was good to play them live in the studio. It keeps you on edge,” Iommi says. “I mean, somewhere along the line we were gonna have to play them live; might as well start in the studio.” Butler adds: “We’ve learned from the past that you can kill a song doing it over and over. The first Sabbath albums were done in two or three days. Technically they weren’t great, but vibe-wise they were great. If you capture that feeling, that’s all you need.”
“Bible Black,” the epic first single, begins with Iommi on acoustic guitar behind Dio’s plaintive wail before the rhythm shifts to a menacing stomp for the rest of this dark tale about a book of sinister scriptures. One of the first songs written for the album, Dio says it established a tone for the rest of the album. “When you start off with a blockbuster like that, it makes the rest of the album so much easier because it gives you a benchmark to measure the other songs against.” Iommi proves he hasn’t lost the ability to inspire six-string envy, unleashing riffs like a pack of rabid hellhounds on “Atom And Evil,” “Fear,” “Neverwhere,” and “Eating The Cannibals,” a tune about doing more than biting the hand that feeds. Butler and Appice slow the pace while ramping up the intensity on “Follow The Tears” and “Double The Pain” and “Breaking Into Heaven,” the latter diverging from its glacial procession for Dio’s majestic chorus about fallen angels planning an attack on paradise.

Ever since Papa Roach first leaked music off of Metamorphosis at Cruefest last year, I have been looking forward to their latest release. I have see the band twice in the last year, and have heard “I Almost Told You That I Love You”, “Lifeline” and “Hollywood Whore” in a live setting before this album was released. With this in mind, I already knew that I liked a quarter of the new disc, but have been wondering, like many of you, how the rest of it would stack up.
From my perspective, “Metamorphosis” is easily the best release in the Papa Roach catalog. If there was any doubt that Papa Roach was moving more towards a hard rock direction, “Metamorphosis” makes the point clear and does so quickly. The rap core and nu-metal tendencies of Papa Roach are gone. “Metamorphosis” is a full fledged modern hard rock album, and man oh mercy, does it deliver the goods!
If you aren’t a Papa Roach fan, you better be prepared to turn your FM radio off for a very long time. “Metamorphosis” has several songs that could be radio singles. The three songs I mentioned above are the easy candidates for singles (two of which have already been released, “Hollywood Whore” and “Lifeline”), but there are a bunch more. “Had Enough”, “Live This Down”, “Carry Me”, “Into the Light” and “Nights of Love” could all find their way to the radio as well, if this album is marketed right (and it will be).
Two Cruefest alumni make an appearance on this album. Motley Crue guitarist Mick Mars makes an appearance by playing the guitar solo on “Into the Light”, and James Michael from Sixx A.M. plays the Hammond B3 on “Nights of Love”. “Nights of Love” is quickly becoming my favorite tune on the album. The guitar tone on this song is really cool. It is moody, yet upbeat track that shows how much Papa Roach has matured over the years.
“Metamorphosis” could be the release that sees Papa Roach knock Nickelback off the throne of hard rock. It really is that good! If you became a new fan of Papa Roach at Cruefest last year, buy this CD. You won’t be disappointed.

Hollywood, CA-based Progressive Metal trio RUSTY EYE is putting the finishing touches on its eagerly awaited new album ‘Possessor’. Recorded at Temple Studios in Chatsworth, CA, the album will feature 13 brand new songs, mixed by seasoned engineer Jeremy Blair (GUNS N’ ROSES, FEAR FACTORY) and produced by Miss Randall, Rusty Eye’s imaginative drummer and vocalist.
The album features the work of acclaimed Italian horror film composer Claudio Simonetti (GOBLIN, DAEMONIA), best known for composing music of famous Dario Argento films and George Romero’s “Dawn of The Dead”; former GRIP INC. guitarist and Samael/Lacuna Coil producer Waldemar Sorychta; and Alex Mitchell, vocalist from famed NY sleaze-rockers CIRCUS OF POWER. The cover art will feature the gruesome art of Joe Petagno, best known for his work with metal legends MOTÖRHEAD.
‘Possessor’ is set for independent release in spring 2009 via Epoché Records. The album showcases the band’s unique blend of differing metal styles and sounds — influenced by horror films — combined with observant compositions underpinned with messages about the continuing “corrosion of perception” as implied by the band’s name.
Rusty Eye was formed by Mr. Rust Mexico City in 1995. Miss Randall joined in 2003, and in 2004 the band relocated to their current Hollywood home. Baron Murtland (guitars) joined in 2006 completing the current line up until this day.

“BEST BUY” EXCLUSIVE PACKAGE CONTAINS BONUS MATERIAL & OFFERS TO FANS
Best Buy partners to bring you, the fans, an exclusive bonus package of the new Static-X album CULT OF STATIC. The package contains 2 bonus tracks, and a membership card to the CULT OF STATIC where you can register to access a 3rd bonus track plus the chance to win tickets and a meet & greet with the band.
The Industrial Metal Machine called Static-X returns with their heaviest, most flammable work to date. CULT OF STATIC, on Reprise Records, marries the band’s aggressive driving force with disarming experimentation.
The fiery raw quality of CULT OF STATIC is blatant as the first single “Stingwray” hits airwaves February 14th. “Stingwray” was inspired by Wayne Static’s wife Tera Wray Static and the Corvette Stingray she drives. The song’s powerful beats and heavy guitar riffs make this song a commanding force on the record.
Keeping the integral tones, Static-X encompasses shredding guitars with solos that have brought the band to a level of playing to be reckoned with. The cybernetic stomp of “Hypure” and “You Am I” bludgeon, bruise and break with precise grooves. Elsewhere, the staccato riffs on “Terminal” crush through an unmistakable guitar tone. Guitarist Koichi Fukuda blazes through incendiary solos, while Tony CamposNick Oshiro pounds out deadly rhythms. Front-man Wayne Static riffs pure violence and screams out his soul. “Over the years my voice has been destroyed from excessive touring… and I love it,” exclaims Static. “The vocals on the new record are raw and brutal.” bolts down demonic bass lines and
A song you may already be familiar with is “LUNATIC” as it was included on the Punisher: War Zone movie soundtrack. Although “LUNATIC” is relentless and raw, brandishing a ripping groove and an impenetrable barrier of guitars the album cut was re-recorded to feature a solo by legendary Megadeth front-man Dave Mustaine. “I’ve been a huge Megadeth fan for years,” explains Static. “We’ve toured with them twice. Mustaine and I really hit it off on the road. His lead style is one of the most distinctive styles out there. There’s something amazing about it. When you hear him solo, you know it’s him.”
Since their breakthrough debut, Wisconsin Death Trip, Static-X has sold over three million records, and they’ve completed numerous successful world tours including three Ozzfests, The Family Values Tour and Gigantour. CULT OF STATIC is the bastard child of a 10 year journey of metal annihilation, unleashing the beast to all in their path. “I can hardly believe it’s been a decade since the release of our first cd, “Wisconsin Death Trip,” and we’re still going strong thanks to all of our loyal fans,” explains Static. “The title CULT OF STATIC is meant to be a big thank-you to everyone who has supported us through the years. I’m looking forward to seeing you all on the upcoming world tour.”

On this CD, the band gets a little help by Crash Diet’s Martin Sweet. Sweet plays guitar on the tracks “Scream 4 Me”, “Stay With Me”, and the title track “Sex Drugs Anarchy”. The Crash Diet influence plays heavily on the songs on this disc, so much so in fact, that I believe that “Sex Drugs Anarchy” tops the last Crash Diet disc, “The Unattractive Revolution”, and could possibly rival their excellent debut, “Rest In Sleaze”.
In my opinion, the best songs on this disc, are “I Am Hollow”, “Scream 4 Me”, the title track “Sex, Drugs, Anarchy”, “Lay Your Money Down” and “Blood on the Bricks”.
The song “Something’s Gonna Give” kind of bugs me. There is a part of this song that is almost exactly the same as Cinderella’s “Somebody Save Me“. The lyrics may be different, but there are parts of the song where the music, and timing is practically the same. Every time I listen to this song, I want to sing:
“Put your money in a big house
Get yourself a pretty wife
She’ll collect your life insurance
When she connects you with a knife”.
Try it, the lyrics fit with the music almost perfectly. The rest of the song is different, but the similar parts are uncanny. There are guitar parts on this tune that would do Warren DeMartini proud, so I guess it is a toss up on this one.
The song “Stay With Me” is a pretty cool song, but the fade at the end of the song is completely annoying in my opinion. Even with these minor issues, “Sex Drugs Anarchy” is a pretty enjoyable hard rock disc. These Swedish sleaze merchants have a hot record on their hands. The band is making plenty of waves in Europe, it would be great to see them get some support in the U.S. as well.
If you are a fan of hard rock/sleaze and hair metal, you have to check these guys out.

Bay Area thrash legends TESTAMENT are taking the stage once again for their first US headlining tour in support of the award-winning The Formation of Damnation. The band’s first new studio album in nine years won “Album of the Year” at the 2008 Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards. The tour will feature the classic lineup of vocalist Chuck Billy, guitarists Eric Peterson and Alex Skolnick, bassist Greg Christian, and drummer Paul Bostaph. TESTAMENT will be bringing along metalcore heroes Unearth and neo-thrashers Lazarus A.D. More details will follow regarding Meet and Greet and VIP ticket packs.
Singer Chuck Billy commented on the upcoming US headlining tour: “It was really exciting last summer touring with Judas Priest, Heaven and Hell, and Motorhead, playing in front of all the old-school as well as new-school metalheads. Now we look forward to CRUSHING on our first headline tour on the Damnation Vacation US run. Heavy metal forever!!!”
For over 20 years, TESTAMENT has remained committed to the thrash metal sound that brought them to prominence in the late 1980s. The band has never compromised its unmatched intensity or musicianship and has only continued to up the ante with each release.
The Formation of Damnation was named one of MySpace’s Top Albums for 2008 and found itself at the top of many year-end lists including #9 Rock Album of the Year on iTunes for 2008, #4 Album of 2008 in Revolver Magazine, #10 on Metal Edge Top 50 of 2008, #1 on Metal Maniacs Top 20 of 2008, and the #2 Brave Pick in Brave Words and Bloody Knuckles. The album also dominated metal radio, coming in at #1 on Sirius-XM’s metal channel, #1 on CMJ’s Loud Rock charts, and was the most played album on metal radio according to FMQB.
Combining elements of hardcore, thrash, and extreme metal – while also never overlooking the importance of thought-provoking lyrical ideas and concepts – UNEARTH has steadily become one of the leading lights in heavy metal. Over the years the quintet has played in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, South America, Mexico, Japan, Europe including the Netherlands and Russia, and has appeared on such renowned metal fests as Ozzfest and Download. They have also appeared on International festivals such as Rock Am Park, Rock Am Ring, Loud Park, Wacken and others. UNEARTH’s latest offering, The March, was released in October of 2008.
“THRASH OR DIE” is the motto Lazarus A.D. have lived by since day one and their no holds barred attitude is equaled only by their will to become a leading force in modern metal. Their supreme level of creativity, musicianship and professionalism makes them an electrifying and engaging live act. Powered by only a three-song demo, they earned a spot opening for Anthrax and were the only unsigned band included on Earache Records’ Thrashing Like A Maniac compilation. After being signed by Metal Blade in 2008, Lazarus A.D. released The Onslaught on March 3, 2009.
Stay tuned for more details on TESTAMENT’s upcoming US tour!

HRH Comment: Only one change from the previously leaked lineup. Charm City Devils takes the place of Saving Abel. While I like the fact that I haven’t seen 3 of the bands in this lineup, I am not so sure that this a better group than last year.
Back in 2007, Helix released their CD “The Power of Rock and Roll”. Those that had their 2006 disc, ” Get Up” complained that this release was nothing more than a mere reissue since it has seven of the same songs on that disc. If you don’t own “Get Up”, you will definitely want to check out “The Power of Rock and Roll” as it definitely rocks hard.
This isn’t a terribly long CD. The whole thing clocks in at 33 minutes. The bonus track is a reworking of the band’s 1983 hit “Heavy Metal Love”. I have always like this song, and this version sounds as good as the original.
A quick listen to this disc, and I am quite surprised that Vollmer can still sing at this level after 35 years. He sounds great as does the band backing him up. While Brian Vollmer may be the only original member of this band, the classic hard rock sound of Helix is in good hands with these guys.
“Fill Your Head With Rock” (what a great idea =0 ), ” The Past is Back (To Kick Your Ass) ” and “Baby Likes To Ride” are amongst my favorites on this disc. This CD may not have the most original rock and roll you have ever heard, but it is another solid effort by Helix.
If you enjoy bands like Krokus, and AC/DC, you ought to give Helix a look. “The Power of Rock and Roll” has me looking forward to seeing the band perform at Rock Gone Wild in August. You can check out these songs and more at Planet Helix. You can purchase this CD, at this link. Check it out. You will be glad you did.

Lynam posted the following update on their blog today:
Woah, so we’ll explain what happened last night real quick since we’re getting flooded with comments and emails. Towards the end of last night’s performance at Planet Rock in Battle Creek, Michigan Jacob saw a group of young ladies sitting down at a table away from the stage.
He called them out and told them to come be a part of the rock show that was going on. The smiled and stayed put. He then announced that if they didn’t come be a part of the rock show that he was going to be forced to strip down into his underwear, come down off of the stage and grind on them; bringing the “show” to them, if you will.
They quickly jumped up and came to the stage. We played a song. After that song, they went back down to their table and sat down.
Jacob announced at that time that he’s a man of his word. He began taking off his clothes. He strips down to his undies and goes down to the table and we play a song while Jacob stands in front of them in his underwear.
No big deal, right?
The club owners have a come apart. I mean, to say they were furious would be the understatement of the year. They’re standing around him with their hands on their hips shaking their head “no” and pointing towards the door of the club.
The prank only lasted, at most, 30 seconds. Jacob then immediately went back up to the stage, put his clothes back on and continued on with the show, playing our last song.
I could see from my drum set that the club owners were still furious. They were pacing the floor, going up to security staff, pointing at the band then pointing at exit signs.
I knew this didn’t look good. So we finish our last song and end the show. I come down off of the drum riser thinking that they were irritated but not infuriated and p-nut, our sound man runs up and notifies us that we have been ordered to “get our shit and get out of here.”
My tongue hits the floor. “NO FKING WAY!” I said.
“Yes way dude. She said that we can get our shit and get out of here and that what we did was completely inappropriate and that we’re not getting paid and we can get our shit and get out of this club.”
So Jacob, trying to diffuse the situation, goes and apologizes to one of the club owners. She refuses to accept his apology and reitterates her orders of get your shit and get out of my club.
So, we did. At the end of the night she told the two other bands on the bill that she wasn’t paying us. The other two bands are kind enough to send us our money but folks, please … be forewarned … if you ever go to Planet Rock to spend your hard earned money, you’d better be on your best behavior. I know it says everywhere on the club’s website that they’re a rock bar but … NO FUNNY BUSINESS. Do not expect a sense of humor about anything. We can hardly take this situation serious. I mean, after all, his cock wasn’t flopping out and hitting the ladies in the face. HE WISHES!
The ladies thought it was halarious and thoroughly enjoyed the show.
We wish we could say the same for the owners of Planet Rock.
We hope they’ll one day loosen up and see last night’s show for what it was.
People come to shows to be entertained and we feel we provided that for an hour.
To be completely fair, the owners of this club were the nicest people we’d ever met up until showtime. Jacob “Vanilla Scarecrowe” certainly didn’t make any headway towards a return visit to Planet Rock for Lynam.
And that’s …
THE REST OF THE STORY!
