PickTheBand.com, the world’s first fan-run record has partnered with the Rockstar Mayhem Festival to present one unsigned metal band the opportunity of a lifetime. Through the Pick The Band website, bands will compete for the chance to perform at an exclusive Backstage VIP event on the July 31st tour stop in Cleveland, OH. The event will occur after the show and will be attended by tour organizers and the performing bands. This is one band’s great opportunity to perform for their peers in the industry and make a name for themselves. Registration has already begun on the http://www.PickTheBand.com and will continue through May 25th 2009. The contest itself will begin on June 1st and voting will run through June 30th. Bands will have a chance to win additional prizes as well.
Bands should go to PickTheBand.com and submit the following:
- An original music video
- 2 original songs in MP3 format
- A video of a live performance
- 10-15 band photos
Once all the submissions are in they will be reviewed by our panel of judges that include: Producers Don Gilmore (Linkin Park, Good Charlotte) and Mudrock (Avenged Sevenfold, Godsmack) as well as Bennett Kaufman (President/CEO of The BK Entertainment Group, a leading producer management firm). The top bands will proceed to the fan voting competition, where ultimately the winner will be chosen. Fans wishing to vote can register as well at PickTheBand.com and will win a variety of great prizes.
“To be a part of the Rockstar Mayhem Festival is great for us and will be a great opportunity for one of these bands to get noticed,” states Avin. “Previous winners of Pick The Band contest have recorded with Don Gilmore and Mudrock. The winners and even some of the runners-up have also received interest and offers from national labels as well as airplay and increased publicity.”
Recently Pick The Band held a contest in partnership with the ASCAP “I Create Music” EXPO in which 15 unsigned bands competed for a variety of great prizes. The winner announced on April 1st was the Adam Ezra Group from Boston. The band won the opportunity to perform at the EXPO, $2500 and studio time.

This week for Hard Rock Hideout’s “Fresh Blood” we are taking a trip down south, I mean way down south as in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to check out the band Pleasure Maker. The band first came together in 2001 in Rio de Janeiro as a follow-up to a Bon Jovi cover band by the name of New Jersey. The band which is now made up of Alex Meister (Guitars), C. Marshall (Vocals), Andy Starr (Bass), Sandro Rossi (Keyboards), and Adriano Morais (Drums) plays 80’s inspired hard rock that you would expect from a band that is heavily influenced by such bands as Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Danger Danger, and Winger.
Pleasure Maker has released two albums 2002’s “Love on the Rocks” and the 2008 follow-up “Twisted Desire”. Songs such as “Come N’ Get It”, “What We Left Behind”, “Is There A Doctor In The House”, and “Eden’s Fruit” will make any fan of 80’s hard rock proud with the scorching solos, keyboards galore, and great gang backing vocals.
You can check out Pleasure Maker by going to www.myspace.com/pleasuremakerrocks or www.pleasuremaker.com “Twisted Desire” is available for purchase from www.perrisrecords.com, www.metalmayhem.com, www.NEHRecords.com and CDBaby.com among others.
Jon Oliva’s Pain posted the following this evening:
Much is happening in the JOP camp so lets bring everyone up to speed.
JOP is currently in final negotiations with AFM Records for the release of our 4th CD (due out October 2009) and our first live DVD to be filmed in early 2010. We are planning a 2hr show with a setlist consisting of the 4 JOP Cd’s as well as a healthy assault of Savatage classics! We are very happy with our relatioship and agressive promotion that AFM Records has consistently delivered…and we are sincerely greatful for their support and dedication!
With regards to the upcoming CD…we have completed 90% of the arrangements for 11 songs plus 2 additional bonus tracks. This CD should prove to be much heavier and far more agressive overall than our previous releases. A few epic songs are always part of the equation but we wanted to make a record that was more in line with Maniacal Renderings meets Hall of Mountain King….and the current demo’s prove to be just that. We will begin recording at Morrisound Studio’s in July and deliver the record on time for an October release. Oliva continues to write at a feverish pace and he is hell bent on delivering one of his most agressive and powerful vocal performances to date!
The upcoming European Festival/club tour dates are almost complete. We are stoked to be hitting a number of countries that we have not yet performed in including Turkey, Romania and Finland. Tour dates are listed below with a few dates yet to be confirmed. This will be our busiest summer tour to date and a true testament to our increasing fan base who are supporting JOP and the rich Savatage history with great enthusiasm…Thank you all for making this and every tour possible.
See you on the road very soon…..
