As announced earlier this week Artillery, one of the best thrash metal bands around, returns with a brand new studio album. New material entitled “When Death Comes” will be their first studio release since the 1999’s album “B.A.C.K”! And today you can hear two preview tracks (“When Death Comes” and “10.000 Devils”) on MMP’s profile on Myspace:
Denmark’s Artillery is one of Europe’s earliest exponents of thrash metal and the band’s contribution to the bourgeoning genre is difficult to ignore. The Danish quartet successfully managed to fuse an abrasive brutality with technicality and good melodies, with the noteworthy guitar leads of the Stützer brothers as well as the remarkable vocals from Flemming Rønsdorf serving as highlights. Due to Artillery’s demos being well distributed, the band gained worldwide recognition even before the release of their first official album; and the band’s first three studio albums, “Fear of Tomorrow”, “Terror Squad” and “By Inheritance”, all assumed the status of classics in the thrash genre. However, due to lack of support from labels and internal band disputes, Artillery never really achieved their big breakthrough and thus split up in 1991. In late 1999, Artillery reunited and released the critically acclaimed album “B.A.C.K.”, but they never really took off as a band again. A few live appearances came in the wake of the release, only to be followed by silence. However, in 2008 the classic core of Artillery, consisting of Morten and Michael Stützer as well as Peter Thorslund (bass) and Carsten N. Nielsen (drums) rejoined forces and subsequently employed new vocalist Søren Adamsen, who provided the band with a rejuvenated energy and a musical prowess that was soon witnessed on the live DVD “One Foot in the Grave, The Other One in the Trash”, containing updated versions of classic material.
A new chapter in the life of Artillery has now begun with their brand new studio album, “When Death Comes”, which contains 10 blistering tracks that fill the void between past glory and future splendour. New material was recorded between March and April 2009 at Medley Studios in Denmark with Søren Andersen as the producer. The band will promote the new album on a massive tour, which will be confirmed soon.
In 2009, there are so many classic hard rock acts on tour, it is hard to believe.
If you would have told me that AC/DC, Aerosmith, KISS, Judas Priest, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper and Whitesnake would all be on tour in the same year, last year I probably would have doubted it. 2009, has started to look like 1987 from the concert perspective.
With the astronomical ticket prices this year for some of these shows, it saddens me that I will miss some of these acts perform. I am wondering if it will be the last hoorah for some of these bands playing this year.
So many of our favorite singers are aging, and one has to wonder how many of these bands will keep performing.
Here is a quick look at the ages of the singers of some of the bands that are on tour (or soon will be):
Ronnie James Dio – 66
Steven Tyler – 61
Brian Johnson – 61
Alice Cooper – 61
David Coverdale – 57
Rob Halford – 57
Paul Stanley – 57
Joe Elliott – 49
Vince Neil – 48
Three of the biggest bands of all time, Black Sabbath (or Heaven & Hell if you prefer), Aerosmith and AC/DC have singers in their 60’s. How much longer can we expect these bands to keep touring and releasing new music?
Amazingly, Ronnie James Dio who is approaching his 67th birthday, is still in fine vocal form. Brian Johnson from AC/DC sounded great when I saw him perform a few months ago. I guess I wont find out how Steve Tyler sounds this year. The $140 per ticket for Aerosmith is too steep of an admission for this hard rock fan.
With some of the older front men in hard rock, if you want to see these bands perform, you have to do it now. While none of these bands have called their shows their farewell tours (and we would laugh if KISS did), next year may be too late to catch these bands play live.
Get out and support your favorite bands if you can afford it, you may not get another chance!

Frontiers Records is excited to announce the release of JORN’s brand new studio album entitled “Spirit Black” on June 5th in Europe and July 14th in the USA.
Considered by many fans and critics as one of the finest voices in Hard Rock to arrive on the scene at the end of the 20th century, JORN is now ready to unleash upon the world yet another studio album entitled “Spirit Black”. “I have carried some of these ideas with me for quite some time” tells Lande, “Willy, Jimmy, Sid and myself have known each other since the 80’s, and some of the song ideas and demos from back then have now seen the light of day, and become an essential part of Spirit Black. When we were younger we usually never cared about what we did yesterday, only about the future, but the past can sometimes reveal hidden treasures and I discovered great potential in some of these song-ideas”. The result: “Spirit Black” is another slab of classic Hard Rock with 80’s Metal elements which will definitely please all those who loved his recent “Lonely Are The Brave”, released in June 2008.
A winning formula should not change, so Jorn has worked again with Tommy Hansen at Jailhouse Studios in Denmark ensuring the right edge to the rich guitar and vocal sound that is now trademark to all Jorn releases. “The fans can expect a solid and defined record that will shake the classic metal world and hammer the future Jorn legacy in stone” says Jorn. “The sound of the album is like a crossover between “The Duke” and “Lonely Are The Brave”, and I feel that some of the songs on “Spirit Black” have the potential to become essential Hard Rock classics that will stand the test of time”.
orn Lande’s strong and diverse voice and solid songwriting skills have now become legendary in the Hard Rock world. In a career spanning over 30 albums releases and as frontman for Millennium, Ark and Masterplan, Jorn was recently featured on spectacular projects such as Tobias Sammet’s “Avantasia”, along with stars like Alice Cooper and Eric Singer (KISS), Rudolph Schenker (Scorpions), Bob Catley (Magnum) and in Arjen Lucassen’s recent concept album “Ayreon”.
“The musical style and direction is now more defined and less experimental. I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel anymore, I just want to write good quality Hard Rock songs that people can relate to and identify with”, continues the Norwegian Viking, “As we entered into the new millennium, I realized and accepted that my strength as a singer was more classic rock oriented. If you buy a Jorn album today, you know what you will get. True classic Hard Rock music”.
Jorn is getting ready to tour the world at the end of summer 09 with his band formed by Jgor Gianola and Tore Moren on guitars, Nic Angileri on bass and Willy Bendiksen on drums.
“Spirit Black” final track listing includes:
Spirit Black, Below, Road of the Cross, The Last Revolution, City Inbetweeen, Rock And Roll Angel, Burn Your Flame, World Gone Mad, I Walk Alone, The Sun Goes Down (bonus track exclusively included in the first limited edition pressing in digipak)
And, as a perfect complement to the new release, Frontiers will finally give a domestic release in the USA to the JORN DVD “Live in America” on July14th, so far only available via import!

If you didn’t catch Violent Divine’s awesome debut disc you missed one of the better releases of 2006. I am happy to say “In Harm’s Way” carries on where the debut record left off. Much like the first disc, this CD has a bunch of songs that could be easily be radio singles.
If you aren’t completely hooked after hearing “Blackheart”, “Love is Divine”, “Happy Ever Afterlife” or “Vampire Empire” (my current favorites), there are plenty of other cool tunes on this disc to get you rocking. Violent Divine have mastered their sound which blends the big hooks of 80’s metal, and the modern guitar tones of today’s hard rock acts. With a sound this cool, Violent Divine are easily one of the best new bands on the scene today. With a little luck, this disc will bring Violent Divine a great deal of success.
If you like your rock hard and heavy, check out “In Harm’s Way”. If you are a fan of bands like Hard Core Superstar, and Skid Row, you have to check these guys out. I am enjoying this CD, and I think you will too.

A family of dolphins has been living on a prayer for months in two New Jersey rivers — and now the sixth of them has floated belly-up outside Jon Bovi’s house.
It was the third to surface in the past two weeks, of an original family of 16 that spent several months in the cold waters of the Shrewsbury and Navesink rivers.
It turned up outside the Jersey rocker’s Middletown home in the Navesink.
Live DVD, Regional Touring Dates and More On Tap
This summer, Omaha-based hard rock band Cold Steel goes “Underage & Over The Top” with a blitz of live performances across the Midwest and on the internet.
The ambitious schedule kicks off in a new setting for Cold Steel as they will perform an acoustic set at Hot Topic inside the Mall of the Bluffs located in Council Bluffs, Iowa on April 24th from 6-7pm. The following week , May 2nd, at the band’s home stage, Club Roxbury in Omaha, Cold Steel will headline a bill that includes Indecision (Omaha) and Easteighteen (Cedar Falls, IA). Cold Steel’s set will be documented by a 4-camera video shoot to be compiled for a full-length DVD release this summer.
Matt DiBaise, lead guitarist for the band, said, “We’re really looking forward to hitting the road and promoting our CD this summer. The college radio support has been great for us in many of the cities we’re scheduled to play, so we hope we’ll see some of our new friends at our out of town shows.”
Future dates this summer include EDGEFest ’09, sponsored by KBVU-FM in Storm Lake, Iowa, back-to-back shows in Denver and stops in Wichita, Kansas City and more as the band criss-crosses the region in support of their debut CD.
Currently receiving airplay on over 100 college radio stations nationwide, Cold Steel is also ranked 7th among over more than 3,400 bands nationwide in “Buzz Factor” in the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands to appear on the Warped Tour in either Kansas City, St. Louis or Denver this year.
The band’s video for “Stuck” continues to receive recognition after being featured nationally by Fuse On Demand which saw the unsigned band receive over 4,200 requests for “Stuck”.
Connecticut hard rocker Joetown will be the guest on this Saturday’s “Hard Rock Nights” on ClassX. Joe joins JT to talk about his latest independent release, Pills and Ammo, and what the future holds for the band.
Often considered one of rock’s best kept secrets, Joetown has had enough of hearing this so-called compliment, and aims to do everything in his power to shed this tag with Pills and Ammo. “I’m tired of being called rocks best kept secret. With that said, I’m guilty of hibernating in the studio and being so consumed that I overlook too much of the business side of my career. I’ve assembled a great team of seasoned professionals that believe in the music, believe that I retain control of my art, and see their role and goal as making me a secret no more.” As evidenced by the raw and rocking Pills and Ammo it will be impossible to keep Joetown under wraps much longer.
Join JT as he chats with Joetown on “Hard Rock Nights” this Saturday night, April 25 at 9 pm EDT on classxradio.com. For more information on Joetown, visit joetown.com. For more information on “Hard Rock Nights,” visit hardrocknights.wordpress.com or myspace.com/jtshardrockradio.

OF FUNGI AND FOE is the expansion of material Claypool has recorded over the past few years for the video game “Mushroom Men” and the motion picture “Pig Hunt”. Being inspired by these 2 projects Claypool decided to keep creating and turn it into an album. The song Mushroom Men on this release is a more in depth version of the theme song from the video game. Additionally a jam session with Gogol Bordello’s charismatic front-man Eugene Hutz turned into the track “Bite Out Of Life”. The band is comprised of Les Claypool on bass/vocals, Paulo Baldi on Drums (Cake), Mike Dillon on Percussion (Ani Difranco), and Sam Bass on Cello (Deadweight).

Aussie rockers Koritni are back with their follow up disc to 2007’s excellent debut, “Lady Luck“.
On “Game of Fools” Koritni you will find some pretty rocking tunes powered by the excellent vocals of Lex Koritni.
The CD kicks off with the hard rocking, up tempo number “155”. I heard a clip of this song and bought the disc immediately. This song sets the stage for a bunch of cool rockers on “Game of Fools”.
The songs “Roll the Dice” and “By My Side” reminds me a lot of Buckcherry. I bet Josh Todd wishes he wrote these tunes. Both songs are better than a lot of the stuff on Black Butterfly.
“V8 Fantasy” is a song that seems to be tailor made for NASCAR. Ok, not really, but if the NASCAR execs hear this tune, they will probably want to use it. Some of the lyrics are:
“Drop the clutch and ride with me
A small block V8 fantasy
A torque ain’t cheap
With a 5 point 2 litre engine running hot
I tailgate slap it back to fourth
Hit the straight with a sling shot
The speed of lights just a gear away
Burning octane in my veins
A sideways slide always in control
People say that I’m insane
400 horses in my engine bay
Well I’ve got it made… yeah”
If this kick ass tune doesn’t pump you up, nothing else will. This is one of my favorite songs of 2009.
“You Vs. Me” breaks up the pace of this album but taking it down a couple of notches. It is the first mid-tempo tune on “Game of Fools”. This song could easily be a massive hit for Koritni. What an awesome tune!!
“Nobody’s Home” is a quick upbeat rocker that will have you breaking out the air guitar.
By all rights, “The Devil’s Daughter” ought to be a radio hit everywhere. Lex Koritni’s voice shines on this excellent album closer.
“Game of Fools” is no sophomore slump for Koritni. This is a solid hard rock album all the way through, and a worthy disc to add to your collection! I have been playing this CD for over three weeks now, and it seems to get better with every listen.

MULTI-PLATINUM BAND HIT THE ROAD IN SUPPORT OF NEW ALBUM, 21ST CENTURY BREAKDOWN, TO BE RELEASED WORLDWIDE ON FRIDAY, MAY 15TH, 2009
Reprise Records’ Grammy®Award winning rock band Green Day have announced that they will hit the road for their first proper tour of the United States and Canada in more than three years beginning July 3rd in Seattle, WA. Green Day are touring in support of their long-awaited eighth studio album 21st Century Breakdown, which will be released globally by Reprise Records on Friday, May 15th, 2009. Singer-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tre Cool have been at work writing, arranging, and recording 21st Century Breakdown since early 2006 with producer Butch Vig (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins). Green Day recently performed 21st Century Breakdown in its entirety during a series of warm-up club shows for hometown fans in the Bay Area. In its review of a show at Oakland’s Fox Theater, Rolling Stone commented that the band, augmented by guitarists Jason White and Jeff Matika, and keyboardist Jason Freese, had the “Quadrophenia-like hang of 21st Century Breakdown’s classic rock melodies and lifetime-punk drive down solid” and that the album is “rock opera in which the rock always comes first.” “21st Century Breakdown is Green Day’s best album,” the reviewer concluded, “and at the Fox, they proved that the rock opera can be as punk as a Clash 45.”
21st Century Breakdown is Green Day’s first studio album since 2004’s two-time Grammy Award-winning punk-rock opera American Idiot, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart, spawned five hit singles, and went on to sell more than 12 million copies worldwide.

Papa Roach front man Jacoby Shaddix talks about their new CD “Metamorphosis” and comments on the scathing impact the economy has had on U.S citizens. Featured across major news networks including CNN, Reuters, and many local stations across the country, Jacoby talks about the inspiration behind Papa Roach’s number one hit “Lifeline” and the work they have been inspired to take on. The band is currently working with a California charity called Loaves and Fishes (http://www.sacloaves.org), helping support the many people losing their homes and being forced to live in tents due the current state of our economy.
Filming has begun on a movie dealing with the spectacular life of German boxing legend Max Schmeling. The movie will be directed by Uwe Boll (Postal, Swords Of The King) and will be in theaters in April 2010.
German boxing star Henry Maske will portray Schmeling in the film.
Swiss rockers Gotthard will be featured on the soundtrack with a brand new song from their upcoming, as-yet-untitled album, due for release on September 4th.
“A movie like this needs a strong rock song”, Uwe Boll explains. “The music by Gotthard perfectly fits. When I first heard their songs, I was immediately convinced.”
A music video for the song featured on the soundtrack will be filmed in the same style as the movie. It will be shot in 35mm, which is normally reserved for feature films.
The song and video, in which you will see the first scenes from the movie – will be introduced with the release of the new album in September, as well as on the band’s double headlining tour through Germany with EUROPE.
As previously reported, Nuclear Blast will release Gotthard’s new album on September 4th. In advance of the album release, a digital single will be available on August 14th.

Due to ligament / tendon damage to drummer James Heatley’s left hand, THE ANSWER regret to announce the postponement their imminent UK headline club shows. The affected shows are as follows:
Apr 20th Belfast Mandela Hall
Apr 22nd Nottingham Rescue rooms
Apr 24th Glasgow Grand Central
THE ABOVE SHOWS WILL BE RESCHEDULED AND ALL TIX WILL BE VALID FOR THE NEW DATES TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON.
RESCHEDULED DATE FOR BELFAST MANDELA HALL SHOW IS JUNE 29th.
Says singer Cormac Neeson, “We are bitterly disappointed to have to postpone our UK headline shows especially for all our fans who have been waiting so patiently for so long. We have left the decision to the absolute last minute in the hope that the medical problem with our drummer James might get better. Unfortunately his hand is swollen and he is in immense pain. He has struggled with pain-killers to get through the recent 30 minute support sets on the AC/DC tour and whilst he can perform a short support set, it is a medical impossibility for him to perform a full one hour and fifteen minute headline set at present.
We are all very upset that we cannot play our full headline show and we will reschedule the postponed shows as soon as we can.
Furthermore and as a token of our appreciation to all our disappointed fans we will provide a free and new limited signed tour poster for everyone who has purchased a ticket and this will be distributed at the rescheduled shows.
Once again we are very sorry at not being able to perform but you know we would never postpone any show unless it was an absolute necessity and in this case we are all hoping that James will make a swift and speedy recovery”

Black Label Society has released their new greatest hits package, Skullage. This CD/DVD set is a killer combination of Black Label Society’s best songs, as well as an awesome DVD that collects footage from their Boozed, Broozed and Broken-Boned DVD from 2003, as well as some of Black Label Society’s music videos and acoustic live footage.
Is this collection worth picking up? If you want the acoustic versions of songs like “The Blessed Hellride” and “Stillborn” you need to grab this. The music videos on the DVD are worth the price of admission all by themselves in my opinion. I would have liked to have all of their videos (yes, there are some that are missing) but I am happy to finally have a copy of these on DVD. I must point out though, that there is a video in this collection “New Religion” that I have not see before, and that was a nice bonus.
The Welcome To the Compound is a new segment filmed inside Zakk Wylde’s home. This part of the DVD shows off Wylde’s off the wall sense of humor. Zakk gives you an explanation on what the lyrics are about on several of the songs on Skullage. There is a brief part where Wylde talks about the song “In This River” written about Dimebag Darrell Abbott. In this clip there is some old footage with Dimebag. It was unexpected and yet very cool.
If you have all of Black Label Society’s CD’s (as I do), and you don’t need a greatest hits CD, Black Label Society has given you have the option to purchase the DVD separately. Skullage is available as a CD, DVD or a CD/DVD set.
If you have never picked up any of Black Label Society’s music before, Skullage is an awesome way to acquainted with one of the better metal bands of the last decade. Overall, this is a pretty good collection of music and video, and is definitely worth purchasing!
