Black Robot – S/T (Release Year – 2009)
What happens when three three former members of Buckcherry reunite? They have transformed into a new powerhouse rock band in the form of Black Robot!
Black Robot taps into the influences of classic hard rock acts like AC/DC and Aeromsith, while creating something new and refreshingly cool.
Black Robot is powered by the vocals of Detroit native Huck Johns. If you haven’t heard Johns sing before, you are in for a treat. Producer Dave Cobb pushes Johns to new heights. He sounds great on this CD.
Johns vocals are not the only high point here. The rest of band featuring Yogi Lonich on guitars, Jonathan Brightman on bass and Devon Glenn on drums play their asses off on this CD. I am pleasantly surprised on how different this material is from their past music.
If you aren’t hooked with big stadium anthem “Baddass”, the cover of J.J. Cale’s “Cocaine” will surely pull you in. Black Robot could have easily tried to mimic the Eric Clapton version of this song, but instead opted for something completely different. It is almost as if the band was possessed by the spirit of Bon Scott when they recorded this song. This is a very cool cover tune.
“Momma Don’t Cry” has an awesome Jimi Hendrix like vibe to it. Check out the jangly riffs on this tune, and you will see what I mean.
“I’m In Love” slows down the pace with an a very cool ballad. This song could be a big hit for the band if it catches on.
“Money” is an infectious upbeat tune that is quickly becoming one of my favorites. The lyrics are simple, but the music is quite fun. Who doesn’t like money?
“In My Car” has a good, classic 70’s rock vibe to it. This song reminds me of “Toys in the Attic” era Aerosmith. I like this tune a lot.
“Love On A .45” sees Johns channeling his inner Zeppelin on this catchy tune. Great Tune!
Black Robot has proved once again that ROCK IS NOT DEAD. The band has cranked out one great debut. This CD is one of my new favorites this year! Check them out at this link!!

Actually, you forget to mention their new guitarist Staffan Österlind.
Take a look at the video Cocaine where he sure shows how to handle a Gibson!
Staffan wasn’t in the band when I wrote this review.
Killed it at The Roxy. I have to say…this band is pretty awesome. I fealt like I was witness to something real. something missing in Rock. It was cool. I was a skeptic. But now I get it. You are going to watch this band grow into greatness. If your a hater, prepare to hate harder.
Black Robot aint a joke.

Really diggin this record, very impressive vocals. Ive never heard of the singer before, he is very scott weiland chris Robinson style. This has the potential to become very huge in the US and UK. I recommend this band and look forward to seeing them live. Kim
Start to finish the record is DA BOMB!!!
BADDASS kicks some major ass.
Dude this is a 10 gee-tar rating.
Black Robot is going to blow some shit up!
So I took a listen on the myspace and in my humble opinion, there is a hit song there. I am not a fan of all of the songs. Love on a 45 i don’t like the vocals. Badass is a rockin anthem. I’m in love is a good ballad but not the band’s strong point. It is a semi-different-original sound but I don’t see long term. This isn’t the 80’s anymore and bands now are vocal driven. Not a bad thing but not a stadium seller either. The vocalist in this band has a strong voice and with some vocal coaching could be a great soloist. Not worth buying, but I will take a nother listen now and again.
I bet if I made a record my family and friends would say it was good too
Jeez is America tht f*cked that people can’t give their honest opinions anymore?
And our name is Mindy Delisi! lmfao OKOK lets be real here…(If that is your name please change it!) love, the band’s Mom
FAT GIRL
10 guitars!!!!!!!!!! SWEEEEET!
I think these guys are on to something so new that alot of people cant wrap theyre head around. I can hear how raw this music is and thats whats cool about it, not over produced crap, whoever said it sounds like everything else, YOUR HIGH! I havent bought the cd yet, just went to myspace and gave a listen, I hear so many cool things in the vocals, that guy needs praise! Who did all those harmonies and high notes!? shit man this is what we like here in Texas! I’m gettin my copy. A+
I bet most of these “Huck Haters” are girls he fucked and dropped…sorry ladies..
I dont think they were trying to be Buckcherry 2, I think they just went and made a record. I think it rocks!
You said it Jeannie, they just “went and made a record”. With today’s technology, anyone can just go and make a record. But these guys are professionals with a credible resume behind them. They should have taken the time to do it right. I don’t think its Buckcherry 2 (its better than that) either. I’m not saying it’s not good. Maybe just not good enough.
How do I join this “Huck Hater” Club 😉
Guess I’ll just have to wait til they hit the road to submit my application 😀
