Idols Are Dead – Mean (Release Year – 2008)

IdolsareDeadCD From the ashes of the bands Electrocution and Folder comes a new kick ass band from Italy, Idols are Dead. On their new CD “Mean”, I hear elements of thrash, traditional metal and nu-metal.

The vocals of Mana reminds me of Chuck Billy of Testament.  No, he isn’t an exact match, but his style is similar and it works with the style of metal that Idols are Dead dishes out. “Mean” is an album that will quickly get you head banging with its upbeat rhythms and heavy guitar riffs.

Some of my favorites on this disc are the opening cut, “This is Not The End” and “Dance With the Devil” and the G N R Cover, “It’s So Easy”. Guns N’ Roses is not  a band that I hear getting covered very much.  Idols are Dead tackles the Appetite for Destruction classic “It’s So Easy” and do a pretty good job on it.

“Mean” is not without its problems though.  They rhythm on the nine songs on “Mean” is practically the same for the most part. It makes the songs sound a lot alike.  The band should have mixed things up a little bit more.  With that being said, “Mean’ is still a solid debut, and Idols are Dead have a cool sound that is definitely going to take them places in the future.
