A Finnish Invasion Comes To The States
STRATOVARIUS’ NEW ALBUM POLARIS
To Be Released By Armoury Records
For over twenty years, Stratovarius has played a substantial part of crafting a new sound, mining into the core of metal and adding the elements of a classical symphony. This has made them one of the most well-known symphonic metal bands worldwide, and Armoury Records (a division of Eagle Rock Entertainment) is proud to present Polaris, their new studio album being released stateside May 26.
Their name says it all – a contraction of “Stradivarius” (a high-quality stringed instrument found in orchestras) and one of hard rock’s favorite companions, the “Stratocaster.” Pioneers of progressive metal, Stratovarius blends rock influences with neo-classical passion for a sound so epic and bombastic, that they helped define an entire genre. As such, this heavy-hitting eruption of an album is a collection of eleven songs that thrive with powerful melodies, sophisticated arrangements, and supreme technical prowess. Vocalist Timo Kotipelto explains, “Polaris is a positive, powerful album that Stratovarius fans all over the world are certain to take to their hearts.” A unique blend of rock anthems and heavy fist pumpers, Polaris is a take on metal that is fresh and compelling, sophisticated yet brimming with strength and fire. Polaris was recorded in the fall 2008 at Hästholmen and 5by5 studios, in Helsinki, Finland. It was mixed by the legendary Mikko Karmila, who has a long history with the band. They hid themselves in a secluded cottage in the forests of Finland to focus on making the perfect record, and emerged with not only Polaris, but also a positive new outlook on the direction of their career.
The real power behind this record is that it comes from a band that has seen its ups and down. Formed in Finland in 1984, Stratovarius treaded a tumultuous path on their journey, facing obstacles that should have sidelined the band. After a history of numerous line-up changes, financial problems, and legal woes, Polaris is the opus of a band rising from the ashes of a broken road, claiming their status as rock survivors yet again.
With the addition of new guitarist Matias Kupiainen, Stratovarius (vocalist Timo Kotipelto, bassist Lauri Porra, drummer Jörg Michael, and keyboardist Jens Johansson) are ready to dominate the progressive metal empire. They will hit the road in May, embarking on an international tour that starts in Europe and ends in the States. This includes a stop at the renowned Wacken Rocks festival.

JVC Mobile Entertainment, a leading developer and manufacturer of sophisticated mobile, audio, and video products, announces their 2009 “TURN ME ON 2” campaign to promote four new in-car A/V products: the El Kameleon-KD-AVX77 5.4″ wide touch screen multimedia receiver, the KW-AVX720 7″ touch screen multimedia receiver, the KW-NT1 6.1″ touch screen navigation system, and the KW-NX7000BT 7″ touch screen navigation system. The campaign will feature a breakthrough online viral video with placement on the high definition video billboard in Times Square and in an extensive campaign that includes print ads, online banner ads, radio promotions and a summer partnership with the 2009 Crue Fest 2 tour.
Last year, JVC Mobile completely rethought its marketing strategy by dedicating the majority of its marketing and media budget to an explosive online viral video featuring Josh Todd of Buckcherry and Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach. Actively promoted throughout the inaugural Crue Fest, the top rock festival of the summer, the video shattered industry records for a product advertisement as it garnered over 5 million views, with video imbeds on thousands of individual community site pages such as MySpace, YouTUBE, and other blog sites.
This year, JVC Mobile has increased the stakes, with a larger production and a more expansive video concept, including over a dozen shoot locations and a cast and crew of over 60 people. The intensive 2-day shoot took place at the world-renowned Universal Studios back lot and the CBS Studios New York Street lot, with creative director/writer, Danny Klein (e2amp) and director, Steven Lippman (Steven Lippman Print + Film) at the helm. “TURN ME ON 2″ stars Charm City Devils who are featured on the Crue Fest 2 Tour this summer, and Darling Stilettos, managed and produced by Matt Sorum for One Gun Music Management, along with 7 beautiful women, all of whom race to an impromptu block party guided by their JVC Mobile navigation systems. As with last year’s video, the action in TURN ME ON 2 is driven by a diverse soundtrack emanating from the JVC Mobile in-dash units, which includes new songs from Charm City Devils, Darling Stilettos and The Last Vegas.
“We experienced significant sales growth from last year’s ‘Turn Me On’ video exposure and we anticipate even bigger results from this year’s campaign,” said Bill Turner, Vice President for JVC Mobile Entertainment.
Along with rock stars, entertainment, and great music, the viral video incorporates key interactions with JVC Mobile’s in-car technology, including the revolutionary proximity sensor, iPod/iPhone utilizing a full speed USB connections, Bluetooth compatibility, touch screen controls, and navigation capabilities. “Our new viral video is a great snapshot into JVC Mobile’s core demographic,” said Chad Vogelsong, General Manager of Marketing for JVC Mobile Entertainment. “The video makes our product the ‘hero’ by using it to navigate to a fun destination, while also entertaining everyone on the way to the destination.”
Media partner Spin Magazine has been tapped to assist in marketing, distribution, and hosting of the video at www.spin.com/turnmeon. This exclusive page will include a Behind the Scenes “Making Of” video, with interviews and testimonials from the cast and crew. Users will be able to grab imbed codes and site links from the Spin.com to spread the “TURN ME ON 2″ video around the web. The page will include an email opt-in area to capture JVC Mobile fan emails, as well as a “Buy Now” button that will take users to the Dealer Locater page the JVC Mobile’s website. This page will also feature a one-month free MP3 download promotion, which will allow viewers to download music from the viral video soundtrack before it is available for purchase.
JVC Mobile will be an official sponsor of Crue Fest 2 this summer, which stars Motley Crue, features Godsmack, Drowning Pool and Theory of a Deadman and introduces the Charm City Devils. The campaign will be actively promoted on the Crue Fest 2 tour (www.CrueFest2.com) with the viral video featured on the closed circuit venue screens at each show date as well as on the web assets for Charm City Devils, the Darling Stilettos and The Last Vegas.

Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist/ Johnny Lima is back after a 3 year absence, which he spent producing other bands such as Miss Crazy, Dirty Penny, and most notably the newly released debut from Freakshow. Appropriately titled “Livin’ Out Loud” is the best album Lima has released in the 12 years he’s been a solo artist. Well known throughout Europe, the fact that the U.S. hasn’t caught on to this California native’s music is mind boggling. With a vocal style similar to Tuff’s Stevie Rachelle, Lima takes touches of glam and mixes it with early Bon Jovi and Def Leppard influences to produce catchy, well written songs filled with melody, hooks, gang vocals galore, excellent solos, and enough rhythm a dead man would be tapping his foot along.
“Livin’ Out Loud” starts off with “All I Wanna Do” which is a catchy foot tapping rocker with a excellent solo and chorus. “Wildflower” follows up with a great thumping bass line followed by a great guitar intro, before the vocals kick in. This is the type of songs you would find playing in a hundred strip clubs back in the day. It has catchy sing-a-long lyrics with another great solo. Heavy guitars and keyboards dominate the opening of “Hate To Love You” which I think is a great touch the keyboards also kick back in at the bridge and chorus. Another catchy sing along that is a little heavier than a lot of the other songs included here. If you can’t hear the Def Leppard influence on “I’m On Fire” you definitely need to get your ears checked out this song could have came straight out of the Hysteria/Adrenalize era. Lima slows things just a tad with “Somebody To Love” but this mid tempo track does not lose any of the power or catchiness that has preceded it. “Caught In The Middle” is a tale of a man getting caught with a married woman by her husband, it boasts more great guitar playing and another excellent chorus. “Gimme Some Rock So I Can Roll” pays tribute to 80’s hard rock while trashing the state of the music industry and commercial radio today. On the title track “Livin’ Out Loud” Lima gives another nod to Def Leppard while singing about living life to the fullest because we only get one chance.
With 12 tracks abouts girls, rock ‘n roll, bad relationships, more girls and life in general,13 if you get the import version, “Livin’ Out Loud” is a fun, catchy, well written album that is absolutely filler free and a great summer time album. Any fan of 80’s style hard rock should definitely have Johnny Lima in their collection, not only “Livin’ Out Loud” but the rest of his catalog as well. You will not be disappointed in the least bit. You can check out all things Johnny Lima at www.johnnylima.com or www.myspace.com/johnnylima

Brand new and long-awaited studio album from the tenacious vocalist. Steevi was a member of Tigertailz for the 1st album “Young & Crazy”. The album was written, performed and produced in Sweden with Chris Laney and Anders Ringman aka Platform (Crash Diet, Europe, Candlemass) and mixed at Polar Studios (ABBA) in Stockholm during 2008. “THE SOUND OF MADNESS,” the acclaimed third album from Atlantic recording group Shinedown, has been certified Gold by the RIAA, marking sales exceeding 500,000 units. The news comes as the band’s single “Second Chance” has just exploded into the top 10 at CHR/Top 40 outlets nationwide and is quickly shaping up to be the Jacksonville, Florida-based quartet’s biggest crossover hit to date.
Currently standing at #15 on Billboard’s “Hot 100,” “Second Chance” has already topped the airplay charts at Active Rock outlets, while also reaching #2 at Alternative. In addition, the single’s companion video is now in “X-Large” rotation at VH1, where it is the #3 clip on the network’s “Top 20 Countdown.” “Second Chance” is also in “Heavy” rotation at MTV.
As if that weren’t enough, Shinedown’s latest single, “The Sound of Madness,” is blowing up at Active Rock radio outlets across the country. The track’s top 10 success marks the band’s tenth consecutive top 10 showing at the format.
Shinedown — who recently performed “Second Chance” on CBS’ “The Early Show Saturday Edition” and NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” — is currently traveling the country as both headliners and as featured artists on a number of radio-sponsored festival concerts (see below itinerary). In June, the band will cross the Atlantic for a hugely anticipated European tour, including performances at such world famous festivals as England’s Download Festival, Germany’s Rock am Ring and Rock im Park, and the Netherlands’ Pinkpop.
Upon their return, Shinedown will team up with fellow Atlantic artists Staind and Halestorm for the much anticipated “Stimulate This!” tour. The four-band bill — also featuring Chevelle — is designed to offer hard rock fans maximum value at a minimal price.
Kicking off July 1st at Peoria, Illinois’ Peoria Civic Center, the “Stimulate This!” tour will hit more than 40 US markets, including some of the hardest hit by the recession. In a show of solidarity for their fans, the four bands have worked closely with the concert promoters to create a package of exceptional value for ticket buyers. Through their collective efforts, base ticket prices will remain mostly under $40 each — half the cost of comparable multi-band summer tour packages — with some venues offering lawn seats for less than $10.
“We’ve always said that we, as a band, only answer to one boss… and that’s everyone in the audience,” offers Shinedown’s Brent Smith. “It’s our job… our privilege to offer our fans an escape. Teaming up with these other great bands, we’re doing what we can to help lift everyone’s spirits in these tough times… the power of music can do that.”
Additionally, each stop on the “Stimulate This!” tour will include special promotions for ticket holders that will vary from market to market, but could include discounts on concessions at the venue during the show, store discounts at local retailers, and online rebates for band merchandise, to name a few.
Inspired by the bands’ efforts to craft a cost-efficient tour for their fans during these hard times, Atlantic Records will give away a pair of tickets to five fans in every market who pose the best reason as to why they need a free night of rock. Fans can send their stories and enter the contest through Atlantic Records’ www.atlanticrecords.com — see website for details.
Produced by multiple Grammy award winner Rob Cavallo (Kid Rock, Green Day), “THE SOUND OF MADNESS” debuted at #8 on the Billboard 200 upon its release last summer. The album marks the dynamic hard rock band’s first foray into the international marketplace, where it has been met with incredible enthusiasm, particularly in the UK: “There’s little doubt that Shinedown are among the most exciting new bands around,” declared Classic Rock, while Kerrang! praised Smith as “simply a masterful entertainer and frontman, a star.”
“THE SOUND OF MADNESS” follows the band’s RIAA platinum certified 2003 debut “LEAVE A WHISPER” and its gold certified 2005 follow-up, “US AND THEM.” Both albums have yielded a staggering seven consecutive top 5 radio hits, including “Fly From the Inside,” “45,” and the chart-topping “Save Me.”
Shinedown is Brent Smith (vocals), Barry Kerch (drums), Zach Myers (guitars), and Eric Bass (bass).

What do a group of musically inclined kids and Queensrÿche have in common? They are all about to get ShipRocked! More than a dozen students from The Paul Green School of Rock Music in Kansas City, Missouri will join Queensrÿche, Tesla, Skid Row and many more onboard ShipRocked: a five day rock and roll cruise to Jamaica and Grand Cayman, departing from Fort Lauderdale on November 15th. During the cruise, the kids will not only get to hang out with their musical mentors, but they will also get to perform onboard for them…twice!
The students from the School of Rock are singing for their supper and raising money to attend this special cruise. “American Idol” winner and Kansas City native David Cook recently lent his support by autographing a Les Paul guitar donated by Gibson for a special raffle – tickets are only $5 each, and can be purchased at any Kansas City School of Rock show or by calling (816) 842-ROCK. Not to be outdone, Queensrÿche recently dropped by the school for a quick photo-op and mini-concert to help raise awareness for the fundraiser, performing three songs before being joined by the school’s “house band” for an additional three tracks.
Paul Green founded the first School of Rock in Philadelphia in 1998. Since that time, satellite campuses have opened across America, helping students develop stage presence and musical skill. Students at the School of Rock take part in both private lessons and larger jams to prepare for a capstone performance. Students have performed at major concerts and festivals around the world and are proud to add Shiprocked to the list. For more information, visit http://www.schoolofrock.com, or the KC school’s fundraising site at http://www.schoolofrockkc.com.

For 25 years, Doro has been a trailblazer for females in rock music. On June 2, she will make her next contribution to the world of metal, when her new studio album Fear No Evil is released on AFM/Dismanic/Ryko Distribution.
A reigning renaissance woman, Doro brings a level of zeal and class to metal. She is a rare breed of rebel spirit and regal enchantress, harvesting a courageous liveliness in her music that is contagious and invigorating. Fear No Evil, with 11 raging, blazing tracks, is charged with Doro’s passion and excitement…from “Celebrate,” where she praises rock and metal for its ability to uplift and energize to powerful anthems like “The Night of the Warlock” and “On The Run.” While tackling heartfelt ballads like “Herzblut” and the beautiful and introspective “Walking With The Angels” (joined by Tarja Turunen, formally of Nightwish), Fear No Evil is a versatile compilation of her classic material. In fact, “Celebrate” and “Herzblut” have both recently charted in Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, and Poland, with “Celebrate” peaking at #3. This album reached #11 in Germany and has been on the charts for 7 weeks.
Born in Düsseldorf, Germany, Doro got her start fronting Warlock in 1982. It was her warrior-like prowess matched with her effervescent personality that won her over with fans, and a generation of fierce front women have her to thank for her strength to stand out of the male-dominated world of metal. Her tradition of Grade A heavy rock and great ballads were eventually incorporated into her solo career, which began with her debut Doro in 1990. She has worked with such legends as Gene Simmons (KISS) and Lemmy Kilmister (Motorhead), dropped a treasure trove of albums, and a recent 2DVD set 20 Years: A Warrior Soul (Locomotive). Recently, she celebrated her 25th Anniversary in a special homecoming concert in December 2008, where 85,000 fans attended.
Beyond the music, this rock queen feeds her positive force back into society. Having performed several concerts for charity, such as “Rock For Asia” for Tsunami victims, and a concert in Germany to raise funds for Hurricane Katrina, she is always finding ways to give back. Doro has also participated in activities against racism and has been involved with PETA. Currently, she is involved with Terre Des Femmes, an organization based in Germany to combat domestic violence against woman in foreign countries.
The beauty of Doro is that, to this day, she fosters an unabashed love and dedication to the music and all she does. She brings upbeat energy to a notoriously dark world. This is a woman who truly Fears No Evil, rather, faces it forward.

Hard rock mavens Staind, Shinedown, Chevelle and Halestorm will be teaming up this summer for the “Stimulate This!” tour, a four-band bill designed to offer fans maximum value at a minimal price.
Making its way across the U.S. beginning July 1 and extending through early September, the “Stimulate This!” tour will hit more than 40 U.S. markets, including some of the hardest hit by the recession. In a show of solidarity for their fans, the four bands have worked closely with the concert promoters to create a package of exceptional value for ticket buyers. Through their collective efforts, they’ve been able to maintain modest base ticket prices that remain mostly under $40 each — half the cost of comparable multi-band summer tour packages — with some venues offering lawn seats for less than $10. “Wall Street got its bailout; now it’s time for rock fans to get theirs,” said Staind frontman Aaron Lewis. “This summer, we want to give our fans one night where they can forget about everything else and experience a great rock show.”
Staind’s latest album, “The Illusion of Progress,” marks the band’s fourth consecutive studio album to debut in the top 3 on the Billboard 200 and features the #1 alternative rock song, “Believe.” The Atlantic recording group’s decade-long career is marked by more than 13 million in album sales worldwide and five #1 singles spanning three different radio formats. “The Illusion of Progress” is the band’s sixth studio album and the follow-up to 2005’s certified platinum “Chapter V.” Produced by Johnny K (3 Doors Down, Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold), Staind recorded “The Illusion of Progress” in frontman Aaron Lewis’s home studio. Currently the third single from the album, “This Is It,” is climbing up the Active Rock radio chart. Staind is Aaron Lewis (vocals/guitar), Mike Mushok (guitar), Jon Wysocki (drums/percussion), and Johnny April (bass, vocals).
Atlantic recording group Shinedown’s latest single, “Second Chance,” is proving to be a cross-over smash, earning the Jacksonville, Florida-based band its highest chart position yet on the pop charts, coming in at #11 this week and rising — the track has already gone to #1 at Active Rock and #2 at Alternative. The companion video for “Second Chance” has climbed to #4 on VH1’s Top 20 Countdown and also enjoys airplay on MTV, MTV2, and Fuse. The title track from Shinedown’s current album, “THE SOUND OF MADNESS,” recently stormed to #6 at Active Rock, continuing the band’s staggering run of 10 consecutive Top 10 hits at the format. Produced by multiple Grammy award winner Rob Cavallo (Kid Rock, Green Day), “THE SOUND OF MADNESS” has been RIAA-certified Gold after debuting at #8 on the Billboard 200 upon release last summer. The album marks the band’s first foray into the international marketplace and has already been met with incredible enthusiasm, particularly in the UK: “The man is simply a masterful entertainer and frontman, a star,” enthused Kerrang! about lead singer Brent Smith; “There’s little doubt that Shinedown are among the most exciting new bands around,” declared Classic Rock. “THE SOUND OF MADNESS” follows the band’s platinum selling debut “LEAVE A WHISPER” and gold-certified followup “US AND THEM.” Shinedown is Brent Smith (vocals), Barry Kerch (drums), Zach Myers (guitars), and Eric Bass (bass).
Multi-platinum Epic recording artists Chevelle have just wrapped up recording their highly-anticipated new album “Letter From a Thief” which will hit stores later this summer. The Chicago-based trio spent seven weeks co-producing the new album with Brian Virtue (Jane’s Addiction, 30 Seconds to Mars, Deftones) in Nashville, Tennessee and are excited to hit the road and debut their new material. “Letter From a Thief” marks Chevelle’s fifth studio album and will follow up 2007’s smash “Vena Sera.” Formed in 1995, the Chicago-based band has remained a staple in the hard rock scene with six Top 5 Modern Rock hits under their belt, including the #1 songs “Send the Pain Below” and “Vitamin R (Leading Us Along)” as well as fan favorites, “The Red” and “The Clincher.” Chevelle is Pete Loeffler (vocals, guitars), brother Sam Loeffler (drums), and brother-in-law Dean Bernardini (bass).
Atlantic recording group Halestorm just released their self-titled debut album. Produced by Howard Benson, “Halestorm” is an explosive collection of infectious hard rock anthems, a fiery flurry of sexy hooks and rough and tumble grooves. Steering this runaway train is singer/guitarist Lzzy Hale, who brings a hypnotic intensity to such tracks as the sensual first single “I Get Off,” which is bulleting up the top 30 on the Active Rock radio chart.

Graham Bonnet is proud to announce that he is now officially endorsed by world renowned and prestigious microphone manufacturers AKG.
Graham said: “I’ve used AKG microphones in the studio since the start of my career through to present day, and I regard them as the absolute best in capturing my voice with natural tone and dynamics. I also use AKG wireless mic systems live, for the best in live sound and reliable technology. I’m very pleased to be part of the AKG family and I look forward to a long collaboration with them.”
Duff McKagan is back with his second full length disc with his band Loaded. You have to give kudos to the former members of Guns N’ Roses. None of these guys rest on their laurels in their downtime. Between Izzy, Duff and Slash, you are almost guaranteed to get some new form of rock each year.
McKagan’s latest effort “Sick” is a modernized blend of hard rock, punk and classic rock. The music is more comparable to Velvet Revolver than Guns N’ Roses, but I believe this disc rocks harder than the last effort by VR.
I don’t think anyone will ever call Duff McKagan a great singer, but he does manage to create some above average tunes worth checking out, and does an admirable job as Loaded’s lead singer.
There are a few rockers on this disc including, “Sick”, “Sleaze Factory”, and “Flatline”. I just wish there were more of them in this vein.
“The Slide” sounds like it could have been a left over track from Velvet Revolver. One song that I had initially written off, “IOU” has become one of my favorites after multiple listens. This song tends to lean more towards the alternative rock side of the fence, but it is cool nonetheless. “Translucent” is a tune that could easily be a radio single if given the chance.
While it isn’t one of my favorites, there is no doubt in my mind that there is a heavy Stones influence on the song, “Mothers Day”. Some of the other songs that I have grown to like are “I See Through You”, and “No Shame”.
I believe this album could have been bolstered by some heavier guitar playing, but this just me. I think “Sick” is a lot better than the first Loaded album. Duff McKagan proves to be a pretty good song writer, and he has served a solid rock album with “Sick”.

Here is some metal for your Monday! Check out the new video “The Pawn” from North Carolina’s Hellrazor!
Saturday night I went to go see the new movie, “Anvil, The Story of Anvil”. I must admit that I am not too keen on documentary’s, but I could not pass up the story of Anvil. This movie does a pretty good job capturing the 30 years of Anvil, with some pretty cool guest appearances by Scott Ian, Slash, Lemmy and more.
If you have never listened to Anvil before, this movie will make you a new fan of Anvil. I loved the movie and will likely pick this up when it hits DVD.
After the movie, Anvil performed a small but very cool set in theater directly after the movie. They performed the title track off their latest album, “This is Thirteen”, as well as their lost classics, “Metal on Metal” and “666”. I was able to meet Lips and Robb Reiner from the band after the show. It was a cool night of rock and roll, and a unique experience at that.
The footage below is from the Minneapolis show, but will give you an idea of what I saw in Cincinnati. If you get the chance to see this movie, by all means go. It is a fun movie, that is worth seeing, especially if you are a metalhead, like myself.

Choosing between L.A. Guns & Rhino Bucket is a hard decision to make, but that is exactly what I had to last night, when both bands played in Ohio at the same time. I like both bands a lot, but I couldn’t be in two places at once, so I had to choose.
I am curious to see if you would make the same decision I did, hence the reason for this weeks Video Showdown #14 that puts L.A. Guns with Phil Lewis, against Rhino Bucket.
I have seen both bands in the past, and I am fortunate enough to have some old clips from their live sets. Check them out below and decide who should win Video Showdown #14 below!
Check out the brand new video “Marionette” from San Diego rockers, Dirty Sweet!
Please allow me to introduce to you from the gutters of Sunset Strip and Hollywood a 5 piece who eat, breathe, and sleep sex, drugs, rock ‘n roll and rebellion known as the Middle Finger Mob. We have been doing Fresh Blood here at Hard Rock Hideout since January and MFM is easily one of the best bands we’ve previewed so far. Imagine if Lemmy (Motorhead) and Mike Ness (Social Distortion) formed a gutter/sleaze rock band with catchy songs and riffs, memorable hooks and fast melodic stylish solo’s and maybe you will get the picture of where MFM is coming from.
Made up of Freekshow (vocals), Shawn Smash (guitars and vocals), D.J. Cruise (bass), Danny “Boy” Virus (drums) and Lenka Danger (background vocals) MFM has been together less than a year and already established quite a following not only in L.A. but nationwide. On their debut album “Songs of Life, Sex, & Death” MFM share their experiences of life in not so glamorous Hollywood with songs like “Doing Time”, “Love Song”, “Save A Place In Heaven” written for Traci Michaels of Peppermint Creeps who passed away late last year, “I Don’t Miss You”, & “Rock ‘N Roll Outlaw”, just to name a few. With Freekshow and Shawn trading and sharing vocals while D.J. and Danny Boy lock in perfectly along side each other and beat you utterly senseless on bass and drums respectively any fan of great hard rock would be in heaven but when you add the glue that holds everything together with Lenka’s background vocals MFM reaches damn near perfection.
You can check out Middle Finger Mob at www.myspace.com/middlefingermobband and middlefingermob.webs.com/home.htm where you can order “Songs of Life, Sex, & Death” for a mere $6.00. Do yourself a favor and check MFM out or you will be missing out on one of the best bands to come along in a very long time.
If you are in a band or know a band that should be featured in Fresh Blood you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Howard Benson Returns As Producer To Follow Up Debut,
Which Sold 5 Million Copies Worldwide
Daughtry unveils the title of its second album Leave This Town (19 Recordings/RCA). Released on July 14, the album once again produced by Howard Benson (All-American Rejects, My Chemical Romance) features a dozen plus songs, including the first single, “No Surprise.”
Chris Daughtry, bassist Josh Paul, drummer Joey Barnes, and guitarists Brian Craddock and Josh Steely recorded Leave This Town in Los Angeles. Much of the album explores the different paths we take in our search for transcendence. “A lot of it is about how leaps of faith can set us free or tie us down, and how we often find heartache when we run from something and redemption when we run toward something,” says Chris Daughtry.
Musically, the album shifts gears smoothly between arena-rock anthems (“No Surprise,” “Ghost of Me”), hushed ballads (“September”), emotional mid-tempos (“Life After You,” “Learned My Lesson”) and country-influenced (“Tennessee Line”).
Leave This Town is Daughtry’s follow-up to its 2006 GRAMMY-nominated debut, which sold 5 million copies worldwide. The eponymous album spawned a trio of #1 songs, was the largest-selling artist release for two years running, and earned multiple wins at the American Music Awards, the World Music Awards and the Billboard Music Awards.
LITA FORD RETURNS WITH A VENGEANCE ON NEW ALBUM COMING THIS FALL
Wicked Wonderland Showcases Her Legendary Hard Rock Fury & New Maturity
Summer Shows in U.S. & Europe Preview Lita’s Most Dynamic Record Yet
Lita is back! The Queen of Metal returns in full force on Wicked Wonderland, her first new U.S. studio album in 18 years being released early this fall on her own JLRG Entertainment label. After a 15-year break from music living on an island in the Caribbean raising her two sons, Lita also hits the road this summer playing select festivals and motorcycle rallies in America and Europe.
“It’s harder and sexier than anything I’ve ever done,” says Lita of the record, which was co-produced by Ford, her husband and former Nitro singer Jim Gillette, and Greg Hampton, the songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer known for his work with Alice Cooper, his band Science Faxtion (with Bootsy Collins and Buckethead and Brain from Guns N’Roses) and other rock notables. Lita is backed on the record by drummer Stet Howland, formerly of W.A.S.P., Hampton on bass, rhythm guitar and keyboards, Gillette on background vocals, and its vivid cover art is by Rob Zombie bassist and solo artist Piggy D.
The songs brim with a passionate adult eroticism and über-hard rock sound highlighted by Lita’s trademark searing guitar riffs. The album includes a keen and timely slice of social commentary on “Patriotic SOB,” sexy rave-ups like “Piece (Hell Yeah),” duets with Gillette on numbers like the aptly titled “Indulge,” and “Betrayal,” which will be featured in the upcoming video game “Brütal Legend,” in which Lita also voices one of the characters alongside Jack Black, Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead and Rob Halford of Judas Priest. The recordings find her rocking, playing and singing with an amped-up fury and power like never before that’s also informed by her personal growth as a wife and mother as well as legendary rocker.
Lita leapt back into action last summer with a triumphant performance in the middle of a tornado at the Rocklahoma festival followed by an appearance at the Rock The Bayou festival in Texas in the wake of a hurricane. She began her career at age 17 as lead guitarist in the groundbreaking all-female band The Runaways. Her own career includes such best-selling albums as Out for Blood, Dancin’ on the Edge, Stiletto, Dangerous Curves and 1988’s million-selling Lita as well as such signature songs as “Kiss Me Deadly” (a #12 hit single), “Shot of Poison,” “Hungry” and her Top 10 hit duet with Ozzy Osbourne “Close My Eyes Forever”. Her dynamic concert performances were known for not just holding their own among the boy’s club of hard rock but giving them a run for their heavy metal money.
After Lita and Gillette married, she left her stiletto heels on the stage and moved to a large home on a deserted Caribbean island and devoted her life to raising the couple’s two sons, who she has also home schooled. At the urging of her friends like Dee Snider of Twisted Sister, devoted fans and even her sons, both of them budding musicians, Lita now reclaims her place as the First Lady of Heavy Metal with an album sure to thrill her many followers and win her new listeners with music that’s more fiery and assured than ever before. A first single from the album will be released this summer, and Lita’s tour schedule includes an appearance at the 69th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally on August 3 sharing the bill with superstar Toby Keith.
Although Lita spent the last decade-and-a-half in the Caribbean, she has anything but mellowed out, and is ready to show the world that a woman and a mom can rock with the best of them. “I missed playing rock’n’roll,” she concludes.

New Player Offers Enhanced Music Experience to Users and New Video Advertising Platform for Sponsors
Last.fm today announced the launch of its Personalized Visual Music player, a reinvention of the site’s original online radio experience that now combines personalized streaming radio stations with rich media visuals to deliver an unparalleled multisensory listening experience to its users and unique video advertising opportunities to brands and sponsors. Last.fm is part of the newly formed CBS Interactive Music Group, a division within CBS Interactive that brings together the Company’s industry-leading digital music assets.
At the center of this new listening experience is the unique next-generation player that will offer users a continuous stream of artist images, music videos and other types of rich media of the artist being played, creating a multisensory experience way beyond any traditional online music streaming service.
Additionally, users can now create multi-genre stations by mixing music tags — “80s” and “Soundtrack,” or “French,” “60s” and “Female” for example — to fine-tune their music channel. Multi-artist radio enables users to launch stations based on combinations of their favorite bands and performers; listening to a music stream featuring the likes of Radiohead, Rachmaninoff and Rage Against the Machine is now a reality.
The new music player provides advertisers and sponsors with unique visual branding opportunities to efficiently reach Last.fm’s highly engaged audience in a more immersive manner than that of audio advertising.
Martin Stiksel, Last.fm Co-Founder, said, “Personalized Visual Music shows what’s possible with Last.fm’s unparalleled music database and the innovative vision of our team. We were the first Web site to offer personalized streaming music, and this marks the next evolution of that service. Passionate music fans come to Last.fm for more than just the songs, and Visual Radio provides them with the enriching, full-featured music experience they demand. And the bold new music player allows brands and sponsors the opportunity to directly reach these users in a visually exciting way.”
Felix Miller, Last.fm CEO and Co-Founder, said, “Last.fm prides itself on using music as the carrier medium for a much richer user experience, centered around a deep dive into an artist’s creative output, personality, activity and live events. Last.fm users, who listen to a billion tracks a month, are able them to share this experience with their friends, and we tie it all together with a world-class discovery engine that continues to surprise and delight music fans across the Web. Today’s launch marks another milestone for us on this journey of taking music listening to the next level.”

I must admit that I hate reality television. I wont turn on MTV these days, simply because that network forgot what music was years ago. It is loaded with mindless reality shows that I just can’t stand. I don’t watch Survivor, No American Race, No Biggest Loser or whatever the latest reality fad is. When I turn on the television, I hope to be entertained, and these half baked shows do nothing for me. Oddly enough, as much I loathe reality TV, I can’t turn away from American Idol. Why is that, you ask? I guess I am always hoping that I will get to see the next great rock singer. Maybe that is a crazy thought, with this being a non rock music competition, but I have my hopes.
Like it or hate it, American Idol has found some pretty talented people over the years, although it has badly been lacking in the rock department. There have been some moments over the years, which have taken me by surprise (see below). This year has been no exception, with the extremely talented Adam Lambert. Lambert continues to show off his impressive vocal range, and cool arrangements on songs each week. Much like many of you, I would be shocked for Lambert not to win this years competition on Idol. Seeing a singer of his caliber on TV makes me wonder where all of the talented singers are at in this generation of rock music.
Lets face it, I grew up listening to Rob Halford, Ronnie James Dio, David Coverdale, Geoff Tate, Axl Rose and a host of other singers with impressive range that took chances with their voices. These singers are iconic in hard rock today. I don’t see singers of the same caliber in today’s bands. Are today’s singers afraid to take the same chances with their voices? When is the last time you heard a newer singer hit a high note that made you say, “Holy Shit!”?! It doesn’t happen much these days, and that is disappointing.
With millions of people watching American Idol, and more importantly, seeing Adam Lambert sing each week. Hopefully, a new crop of talented singers will step forward that will say, “Hey, I can sing like that! “. They might not turn up on American Idol, but the influence of this program has could help uncover the next great rock singer. It can’t happen soon enough, in my opinion!
The videos below have been some of the more surprising rock moments on American Idol. Check them out!

Frontiers Records is happy to announce the release of CRASH THE SYSTEM’s debut album entitled “The Crowning” on July 3rd in Europe, August 11th in the USA with a Japanese release to follow.
The CRASH THE SYSTEM – project came about as a collaboration between song-writer Sören Kronqvist (former Finnish 400 meter hurdle champion and songwriter for Michael Bormann, House of Lords and CC Rock between others) and drummer/producer Daniel Flores (Mind’s Eye, The Murder of My Sweet) in the fall of 2008. The duhas known each other for a couple of years and they respect each other’s work. Sören and Daniel decided to make a project together with songs they enjoyed writing. “The original plan was to make one song with Daniel and try to get that song out to a band or an artist. And, if it would turn out good we would do more together” explains Sören. “The first song we did was All Because Of You and we both were really happy with how that song turned out. A few record companies also liked the song. We then recorded three more songs and got good response from them as well and that’s when Frontiers came into the picture”.
Thanks to Daniel’s extensive music background, good reputation, and connections in the music business he managed to bring in some of the top names in Sweden into the project. Guest vocalists on the project are: Göran Edman (Ex-Yngwie Malmsteen, John Norum, Brazen Abbot, etc), Mats Levén (Ex-Yngwie Malmsteen, Infinite Mass, etc), Thomas Vikström (Ex-Talk Of The Town, Candlemass, etc) and Björn Jansson (Ex-Ride The Sky, Tears Of Anger, etc). Appearing on the album are also Johan Niemann (Mind’s Eye, The Murder of My Sweet etc), Daniel Palmqvist (The Murder of My Sweet), and Manuel Lewys (Machinery, Elwood, etc) on guitars with additional keyboards by Andreas Lindahl and additional backing vocals by Angelica Rylin (The Murder of My Sweet).
“The sound of Crash The System is a mix of 80’s hard rock/metal, modern metal, some symphonic influences and a few hi-tech elements” continues Sören. “I come from a softer side of metal and Daniel comes from the prog side of rock and metal. Crash The System is where we both meet. The “crash of styles” and the added touch of the four fantastic singers Göran Edman, Mats Leven, Thomas Vikström and Björn Jansson as well as the additional musicians gives the sound an interesting character. We wanted to keep it fairly simple with catchy melodies. Just put in the cd in the cd player and rock, not having to listen to the record 20 times to understand it”. Fans of 80’s Melodic Hard Rock with influences of modern symphonic metal should not be disappointed with the catchy choruses and great melodies sung by some of the top hard rock singers around. “Hopefully people will like the songs and look forward to the next album and more material from us. We feel that all songs are about equally strong, none of the songs are fillers” concludes Sören.
“The Crowning” final tracklisting includes: Fight Fire With Fire; All Because of You; I Still Believe In Love; Love Is In Your Eyes; Love Is In Your Eyes; Take a Chance; Enough Of Your Lovin’; Mysterious; Angel Of My Heart; Rolling Stone; Don’t Tell Me No Lies; Broken Glass; Higher and Higher; Without Chances.
