SKIN – S/T (1994)
A band that I recently discovered through the live streaming of the Download Festival a couple of weeks ago is the band SKIN. I enjoyed their live set, and had to learn more about this band.
Who is SKIN? Myke Gray and Andy Robbins are former members of the bands, Tokyo Blade and Jagged Edge. Neville MacDonald is the former singer from the band Kooga. When these guys got together to form SKIN, there was no market for this type of music. This is probably why I missed them the first time around. Nonetheless, I am glad to hear them for this first time in 2009. This is a really cool band that has a sound that reminds me of a cross between Thunder and possibly Extreme. Neville MacDonald has an awesome voice that truly powers the songs on this disc.It blows my mind that I have not heard him sing before now. Myke Gray’s guitar work is a pleasure to listen to as well. If you listen closely, you can even hear current Warrant front man, Robert Mason signing back up vocals on this CD.
The Bottom Line: You won’t find a bad song on SKIN’s debut. If you like the videos below, you need to seek out a copy of this disc. You wont be disappointed. There are several great songs including “Colourblind”, “Look But Don’t Touch”, “Tower of Strength” and “Raised on Radio”.
For more information on SKIN, check them out on myspace at this link or at the band’s website here. The only place I could find a copy of this CD at a semi reasonable price was through Amazon France. It is well worth the import price! Highly Recommended!

SKIN, THUNDER, and LITTLE ANGELS defined classic UK rock all through the 90s. Nev MacDonald is THE most underrated singer in classic rock.
I agree this is a great overlooked album that was released at the wrong time, 5 or 6 years earlier and this album would have been a monster. Neville MacDonald sounds like a cross between Eric Martin (Mr. Big)and Ron Young (Little Caesar) and those are the two bands I would compare the overall sound of Skin to also. Besides the songs Rob mentioned in the review “Which Are The Tears” is an amazing bluesy soulful ballad. Definitely worth picking up if you can find it.
