0 SEPULTURA GUITAR LEGENED: ANDREAS KISSER Releases First Solo Album
HUBRIS I & II on Mascot Records – Available NOW!
Beloved guitar shredder Andreas Kisser of the legendary Brazilian metal band Sepultura releases his first solo project HUBRIS I&II on Mascot Records. This double album project will only be available as an import online or on iTunes as a download.
Since the release of “Roots” (1996) and the consecration of Sepultura, the world was introduced to a new form of metal guitar playing. Mixing blinding riffs, strong pounding rhythms, and clear & expressive tones, Andreas Kisser had created something very new. We named this style, ‘root guitar’, and it found its way around the world, having a transforming influence on much of the 90’s metal scene. It’s style & technique can be seen in what is now called ‘New Metal’ (or Nu Metal).
Just to clarify, Andreas Kisser is happy in Sepultura, with the same intensity and passion as always and has no intentions of leaving the band. However, he felt it was time to expand his horizons & the different challenges that lay in front of him. His first solo album release is called, “HUBRIS I & II”. Going beyond the usual ‘noise’, the album demonstrates influence of metal, musical education & disciplines, MPB (Brazilian popular music) and even “repente” (a form of improvisation, a style of music born in the streets of the Brazilian Northeast region). & all the while doing this without losing what is truly important: its musical identity.
There are 21 tracks divided into two volumes: a heavy side & the other less intense. The majority of the well-guarded ideas come from demons. “After Max Cavalera left Sepultura, I started to compose melodies while never reaching a completed song.” explains the Brazilian guitarist. HUBRIS I & II is a finalization of what I have written since 1997.” Despite this obvious contrast, the album as a whole has consistency & unity.
HUBRIS I
Here we have an interesting collaboration of tuning between guitar, bas & drums. The sound carries the ‘root’ feeling so familiar in his sound, its intensity only comparable to a high voltage shock. IN respect to the compositions, from the start there are varied surprises. From the introduction of the Brazilian ten string acoustic guitar called, “viola caipira” alongside the electric guitar and then quickly letting the listener know what is to come. And that is exactly what happens, as told by the guitarist: “This is a guitar record with an emphasis on tones. Although there are some solos, I preferred to work on the ambiances, almost as if I was doing a soundtrack for a movie.”
HUBRIS II
In general HUBRIS II keeps the nuances a little a little more daring. This will probably be the record that will surprise the public more accustomed to Sepultura. A fair part of the songs is instrumental, in which the big connection between them is the acoustic guitar as the protagonist. Yet Andreas advises: “This isn’t strictly an ‘unplugged’ record, with just acoustic elements. It has electric guitars, of course!” Who would think that Andreas could resist the temptation?
HUBRIS I & II brings to us the Andreas Kisser, exposed: the multiple sides as a musician, composer, arranger and producer. We can see all the various facets of this great guitarist, who has taught us where the root guitar comes from, as well as its origins and more importantly, what it spawned from Sepultura. Influences and identity collide in endless eclecticism, yet all of it comes from a strong point of view & common sense. This Andreas Kisser’s first solo project in his career, yet his story has just begun…

1 ROB ZOMBIE’S HALLOWEEN II Soundtrack Features New Recordings
PLUS CLASSIC TRACKS FROM MOTORHEAD, ROD STEWART, 10CC, FOGHAT, SCREAM, THE MC5, VOID, THE MOODY BLUES AND MORE
Following the success of Rob Zombie’s initial reinvention of John Carpenter’s smash cult horror film HALLOWEEN which premiered number one at the box office breaking all Labor Day Weekend 2007 records, comes the sequel, HALLOWEEN II, hitting theatres nationwide on August 28, 2009 from Dimension Films.
With the enormously popular horror movie series back, writer-producer-director Rob Zombie, once again puts his own twisted twist on the soundtrack. Halloween II – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Hip-O/UMe), released August 25, 2009, and co-produced by Zombie, manages to bring together dialogue from the film as well as music from Motorhead, The Moody Blues, Scream (sans future member Dave Grohl), Rod Stewart, the MC5 and Foghat, alongside new psychobilly band Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures.
Frightmaster Zombie helmed 2007’s ninth installment in the HALLOWEEN franchise that began in 1978. HALLOWEEN II, which debuts August 28, picks up where HALLOWEEN left off, and focuses on the struggles of Laurie Strode (played by Scout Taylor-Compton) and killer Michael Myers (played by Tyler Mane).
The new recordings on Halloween II – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack include “Transylvania Terror Train” and “Honky Tonk Halloween” from Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures, who appear in the film. The band’s leader, Jesse Dayton, an Austin, Texas-based singer-guitarist who has played with Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson, was part of the duo Banjo & Sullivan that performed in Zombie’s 2005 flick The Devil’s Rejects and simultaneously released an album. Similarly, Rob Zombie Presents Captain Clegg And The Night Creatures (Stag/Zombie A Go Go) will be issued August 28.
Also new are “Laurie’s Theme” from John 5 produced by Bob Marlette, (Alice Cooper and Ozzy Osbourne); “Nurse Killa” from score composer Tyler Bates (Watchmen, 300, Halloween, The Devil’s Rejects); and a cover of Nazareth’s 1976 hit “Love Hurts” from singer Nan Vernon, who covered “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” and “Mr. Sandman” for HALLOWEEN.
The classic tracks range from The Moody Blues’ 1966 psychedelic gem “Nights In White Satin” and 10cc’s cheery 1977 hit “The Things We Do For Love” to Rod Stewart’s 1972 cover of The Temptations’ “(I Know) I’m Losing You,” Foghat’s 1972 take on Willie Dixon’s “I Just Want To Make Love To You” and the MC5 proto-punk masterpiece “Kick Out The Jams,” which was recorded live in Detroit on Devil’s Night/Halloween 1968. The lesser-known vintage tracks hail from the early ‘80s: “Amerarockers” by hardcore punkers Scream, “The Chase Is Better Than The Catch” by metal’s Motorhead and “Time To Die” by hardcore/metal band Void.
Prior to entering the film world, hard rocker Zombie scored a series of multiplatinum albums–1992’s La Sexorcisto, 1995’s Astro-Creep: 2000, and 1998’s Hellbilly Deluxe –as well as platinum with 2001’s The Sinister Urge and 2003’s greatest hits collection Past, Present & Future.
In addition to his recording career, Rob Zombie has written and directed several successful feature films including House of 1000 Corpses, the sequel, The Devil’s Rejects, and is the is the producer, writer and director of the forthcoming animated film The Haunted World of El Superbeasto, based on his comic book series, The Adventures of El Superbeasto.

0 Thunderhead – Ugly Side (1999)
I first heard of singer Ted Bullet in the band Son of a Bitch featuring the former members of Saxon. I liked that band’s release Victim You so much that it was only natural for me to seek out Ted’s other work. When I saw that Thunderhead’s release Ugly Side also had current House of Lords members, B.J. Zampa and Jimi Bell, it was pretty much a no- brainer. I had to have this CD.
Much to my surprise,Thunderhead put out their first disc back in 1989, but I never found out about the guys until long after the breakup.
Ugly Side is Thunderhead’s sixth and final release, and judging from the tunes on this CD. The band went out the way they came in, rocking hard!
Let me start off by saying that Jimi Bell’s guitar work on this CD is phenomenal. If you are a fan of virtuoso type of players, you need to listen to him cut loose on Ugly Side. This disc is filled with a ton of solos and guitar noodling that will keep a lot of rockers happy.
To me, Ted Bullet’s vocals are an acquired taste, but I like them a lot. He has a raspy voice that reminds a little of original AC/DC singer Dave Evans.
Ugly Side starts off with a high speed rocker, “Liar”. There are a some really cool guitar riffs on this song!
“Rock Bottom” reminds me a lot of the House of Lords song with the same name. The lyrics are different, but the chorus
is practically the same. It is a great song nonetheless.
“Blood” is a killer balladesque tune that transforms itself into a high octane rocker, and then back again. Cool tune!
Jimi Bell shows off his guitar wizardry once more on “Pull the Plug”. I don’t really care for the lyrics on this song all that much, but Bell’s guitar work makes it required listening anyway.
“High and Don’t Care” is an acoustic based instrumental. The guitar playing is good, but it doesn’t really add anything to Ugly Side.
The album picks the pace back up with the rocker “35 Minutes” and doesn’t let up again.
Ugly Side is a solid effort from Thunderhead and worth checking out.
Copies of this CD are available for sale at this link. Get it and play it loud! You won’t be disappointed.

0 Adelitas Way To Tour With Shinedown

Las Vegas rockers, Adelitas Way will hit the road with Shinedown this fall in support of their self-titled debut, which released July 14th on Virgin/EMI Music and debuted at #16 on Billboard’s Top New Artist Chart. The tour will kick off in Richmond, VA on Friday, September 11 and will work its way across the Midwest and West coast then travel back ending in Orlando.
To mark the release of its self-titled debut, Adelitas Way recently celebrated at the Palms Casino Resort in its hometown of Las Vegas on the album’s street date. A select number of fans who purchased their CD at ZIA Records along with local radio contest winners, gained entry to a private concert by Adelitas Way at The Lounge at the Palms Casino Resort and the after-party at Moon. Preceding their debut celebration, Adelitas Way appeared at WWE’s Monday Night RAW in Orlando.
The album’s kick off single, the power-rock anthem “Invincible,” has already been tagged as WWE Superstars theme song, been used for spots promoting the 2009 season finale of the hit series “CSI: Miami” and is currently available on iTunes. Since then, the single been streamed nearly 200,000 times on Adelitas Way’s MySpace page and is building national airplay as it climbs at both Active and Rock radio charts.
In support of the single, the band shot their video for “Invincible,” which was directed by Dale Resteghini, (Fallout Boy, Hawthorne Heights, Alter Bridge). Adelitas Way wanted to create an epic video that would awaken the fight in anyone who is in need. The video focuses on everyday people who are faced with life challenging circumstances, while delivering an inspiring message of hope and perseverance. The video will appear on AOL’s NoiseCreep.
Adelitas Way is fronted by singer Rick DeJesus, who grew up in a rough Philadelphia neighborhood that was ravaged by drugs and poverty. In 2005, he seized an opportunity to move to Las Vegas where he met up with lead guitarist Chris Iorio, guitarist Keith Wallen, drummer Trevor Stafford and bassist Derek Johnston. Soon the quintet was opening for artists like Chris Cornell, Hinder and Tantric, generating an impressive industry buzz that resulted in their signing with Virgin.
Produced by the Grammy-nominated Johnny K (Disturbed, Plain White T’s, 3 Doors Down), the band’s debut album is filled with hard, edgy modern rock anthems spotlighting the shredding blues style of teenage axe-slinger Iorio and the propulsive, grunge-like drums of Huntington Beach, CA native Stafford, a veteran of Ozzfest band Shuvel. N.Y. bassist Johnston and West Virginia guitarist Wallen bring a combination of indie, hardcore and classic rock influences to the band’s distinctive sound.
Adelitas Way, whose name comes from an unplanned visit to a Tijuana brothel, is currently on tour with Saliva and will head out with Sick Puppies on August 13th. You can check out first single “Invincible” and other music from Adelitas Way on the group’s MySpace page (www.myspace.com/adelitasway) and at www.adelitaswaymusic.net.

5 The Return of Nelson

Frontiers Records are very excited to announce the signing of American rockers Nelson for a brand new Rock album – set to be titled “Lightning Strikes Twice”. The label will also release a Nelson live album recorded during the “After the Rain” tour and the original “After the Rain” demos which include some unreleased gems.
Right now the Nelson’s are hard at work in the studio working on the new album. Gunnar Nelson reports: “After many years of mutual admiration, Matthew and I are proud to announce our new partnership with our friends at Frontiers. We’re thrilled at the opportunity for a renewed vitality for Nelson. We eagerly anticipate an unstoppable connection between the songs we work so hard on and the fans of classic melodic hard rock that we make our music for. While trends have come and gone, Frontiers has stayed the course and supported a loyal fanbase all over the world. Matthew and I have taken great pride in doing the same. It’s this shared passion for great rock and roll…spearheaded by great songs…presented in a timeless fashion…that’s assured Matthew and I that Frontiers will be where our future hits find a perfect home. We’re currently hard at work in the studio after years of writing the best songs of our lives. The resulting effort will be our first original effort commissioned specifically by and for Frontiers – a seamless follow up to our triple platinum debut album After The Rain called Lightning Strikes Twice. Brother harmonies, soaring guitars, melodies that will keep you up at night… but above all… Great Songs. That is what Nelson does. And that’s all we’re ever going to do for Frontiers and our loyal fans. And with our legendary drummer Bobby Rock, international guitar virtuoso Neil Zaza, and former Aerosmith keyboardist Gary Corbett, we plan on touring the four corners of the earth to support it.
Nelson is back, and better than ever. Let’s ROCK, shall we?”
“After the Rain” was the hit debut multi-platinum album from the band led by Matthew and Gunnar in the early 1990s. They zoomed to number one with their hit song, “(Can’t Live Without Your) Love and Affection,” had three Top 10 singles, four #1 MTV videos, five Top 40 Billboard Hits and became massively popular overseas. Every magazine from Rolling Stone to People did cover stories, and the twins performed on television shows like “Late Night With David Letterman” and “Saturday Night Live.” Critics tended to unfairly overlook Nelson, however, because of the brothers’ pin-up good looks… but that didn’t stop millions of fans from ‘getting’ what all the excitement was about.
With the rise of grunge rock in the mid-90s, pop music grew dark and foreboding. Matthew and Gunnar chose not to compromise their positive, drug-free posture to suit the trend. Those who continued to follow the brothers’ musical progress were rewarded with numerous gems on their seven subsequent albums on their own Stone Canyon Records label.
Matthew and Gunnar have rare insights into what it takes to earn longevity in the entertainment world. They continue the inspiring story of a most remarkable show business family. Their grandparents, Ozzie and Harriet Nelson, achieved immortality with “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet,” the longest-running live action sitcom in television history. Earlier, the couple had enjoyed big band success and had scored a number one hit in 1934.
Ricky Nelson emerged from the TV series’ popularity to establish himself as one of the most important rock artists of the ’50s and ’60s with 60 million career sales and three number ones of his own. So, with Matthew and Gunnar’s “(Can’t Live Without Your) Love and Affection”, the Nelsons landed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the only family to reach number one record status in three successive generations.
Once again billed as Nelson, and reuniting the original internationally known rock band, Matthew and Gunnar continue to perform sold-out shows around the globe. Contributing to their audience’s extraordinary devotion is the fact that Matthew and Gunnar tirelessly try to please. They take time to meet and greet each and every fan following all performances… for in their own words, “Our people are everything to us.”
Defying any preconceptions, Matthew and Gunnar dazzle audiences of all ages. They carry on the family tradition, while carving out their own musical identities with grace, class, and passion. Their live show flat-out ROCKS! Much to their satisfaction, the brothers’ career path displays parallels to that of their legendary father, Ricky Nelson, who found fame as a teen idol before reinventing himself as a singer-songwriter and helping found the country rock movement.
Matthew Nelson adds: “”Gunnar and I are thrilled with this new partnership with Frontiers Records. To have the chance now to work on this new NELSON album creatively is a wonderful opportunity for us as artists and to continue the musical journey we started early in our careers. As singer songwriters we saviour this experience. We’re having a blast in the studio recording some incredible rock music. Our Pop (Ricky Nelson) taught us that all careers are really a series of comebacks, and that ‘lightning really does strike twice’…. so we’re ready to continue the rockin’ journey with Frontiers and NELSON on LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE!”

0 iPod Users Get Free Access to 6 Million Songs With iGetMusic
With iGetMusic, Amphony is unveiling a new and innovative approach for iPod fans to build and expand their music collection.
“Traditional methods for obtaining music for the iPod, such as ripping CDs or downloading MP3s from the internet, have always proven to be unattractive from a user point of view,” said Gunter Fellbaum, Marketing Director at Amphony. “iGetMusic works by automatically recording music from the vast song collection of CBS Radio. The user thereby gets access to over 6 million songs without having to pay per song, without a monthly fee and without having to worry about breaking any laws.”
With iGetMusic, a user simply selects a desired music category and iGetMusic will record any of the over 200 music channels from AOL Radio, Yahoo! Launchcast or Play.It. In addition, custom music channels can be created by the user and automatically recorded by iGetMusic.
Internet radio recording software has always been unable to generate full-length tracks due to inaccurate track separation and the cross-fading between titles in internet radio streams. In contrast, songs recorded with iGetMusic are full length without missing anything at the beginning or end, essentially the same as if copied directly from a CD. Further all recorded songs are 100% accurately tagged with title, artist and album information. CD album covers are saved automatically for display on an iPod or computer media player.
In contrast to flat-rate music providers and music web sites, such as iTunes, iGetMusic songs are saved in the unencrypted iPod m4a format and thus are not restricted to specific audio players. Songs in the m4a format are only half the size of MP3 files at the same level of audio quality thus doubling the amount of songs that can be stored on the iPod.
“Another unique feature of iGetMusic is the ability to record any number of music channels simultaneously on a single PC. As a result, a user can expand the music collection at a speed which is only limited by the speed of the computer and internet connection.”
Headquartered in Berlin, Germany, Amphony is a startup technology company that has become the leading provider of digital wireless headphones and audio transmitter products. In the U.S., Amphony products are sold by Amphony Corp., an affiliated Amphony company.

3 The Wildhearts – Chutzpah (2009)
For the people who know me it is no secret I am a huge Wildhearts fan. Ginger Wildheart is probably one of the most under appreciated musicians in the business today, not only as a songwriter but singer as well. The Wildhearts may be an acquired taste for some people, but seriously folks Ginger could sing Webster’s Dictionary and make it catchy and sing along. Needless to say I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Chutzpah which is the Wildhearts 9th studio album and the first original album since ’07’s self titled effort. Chutzpah is definitely the most cohesive release so far and also has the chance to be the biggest Wildhearts album to date. “The Jackson Whites” kicks everything off in grand fashion. This song is absolutely begging to be played live and one guaranteed to get the crowd involved with the sing along chorus and great rhythm. “Plastic Jebus” has an industrialized feel to it ala Rob Zombie until the vocals kick in and oddly enough the vocals and music melt together perfectly. “Plastic Jebus” should garner the Wildhearts all kinds of spins on radio along with “the Only One” which is a mid-tempo number that alternative radio is jumping all over these days. Dare I say “the Only One” could be a Top 40 hit? Quite possibly.
In the same vein as “the Jackson Whites” “John of Violence” is another song begging to be played live, great rhythm, great feel, and Ritch Battersby kills the drums on this song excellent job. With a chugging intro and great catchy foot stomping chorus “You Are Proof That Not All Women Are Insane” could quite possibly be the best song on “Chutzpah”. What Wildhearts album without at least one song where Ginger is raging on vocals? For Chutzpah, “Tim Smith” is that song heavy chugging bass lines from Scott Sorry, Ginger’s raging vocals classic Wildhearts right here. “You Took The Sunshine From New York” is one more song that should get plenty of spins on radio this is a catchy almost pop song that is great nonetheless and could give “Women Are Insane” a run for best song on this album. “Mazel Tov Cocktail” another great catchy pop oriented song from Ginger and the guys foot tapping sing along at its best. The title track “Chutzpah” closes out the album and it is another rager. Good luck trying to sing a long with this one.
Chutzpah is loaded with great songs from start to finish, absolutely no filler on this album. As great a job Ginger and the guys did with the songwriting and playing you have to give producer Jacob Hansen a hand for bringing it altogether and getting the very best out of the band on this release. The results? One of the best albums of the year and the best Wildhearts album yet.

0 Vanity Ink signs deal with Swedmetal Records

The longplayer will be available all over Europe. Both parties are
really excited about this and are looking forward to work together.
Vanity Ink hails from Helsinki, Finland, and has so far released two EPs (…roadkills!, 2004 and Vanity is a Full-time Job, 2005) and one full-length album (On Your Skin, 2007). The Inkers were born and raised with rock’n’roll records and they sold their souls already at their early ages. Many years in this business guarantee the professionalism but their wicked sense of humour and togetherness keeps them yahoo enough.
Swedmetal Records is a proud home of some of the best acts in sleaze/glam/rock’n’roll. They have released stuff from the likes of Pretty Wild, Glorious Bankrobbers, Cherry Lips, Innocent Rosie, Steevi Jaimz, Shameless and Crazy Lixx (the former band of the Hardcore Superstar guitarist Vic Zino) – to mention a few.
Annabella (Vanity Ink singer says) “This is a boost for us, signing with a such good label. We really like their earlier releases, and now we are one of them. It´s a fantastic feeling, and we´re ready to bring both the label and us to a new level”.

0 Lillian Axe – Sad Day on Planet Earth (2009)
Rocking the world of hard rock and heavy metal since 1988, Lillian Axe is a veteran rock band that knows what it takes to deliver the goods. They’ve recently returned with their latest CD, Sad Day On Planet Earth, trying to prove that they can still rock hard and make a great album worthy of your valuable listening time.
Sad Day On Planet Earth opens with the excellent instrumental, “Cocoon”, which sets the stage for the rest of the disc. The acoustic guitar mixed with some special sound effects paints a dark, ominous picture of what’s to come. “Cocoon” bleeds into “Megaslowfade”, a rocker that was made to lead off an album.
“Megaslowfade” takes the intro of “Cocoon” and turns it on its ear. This is a guitar heavy, head banging, hard rocking, fist pumping song that electrifies the senses. An enjoyable way to get things started, “Megaslowfade” is one of the best cuts on the disc. The changes from bridge to chorus to verse are well done and enjoyable, and show just how much talent this band still has. The power behind this song is breathtaking; a great punch in the gut that makes the listener notice the immediate impact of Sad Day On Planet Earth.
“Jesus Wept” picks up where the previous song left off, albeit it a slightly slower tempo. This is a catchy song that will have you singing along in no time. The demanding drumbeat, gripping guitar riffs, and crisp vocals pull this song together and make it one to remember.
The title track is the power ballad of the disc without much power. While the message in the lyrics is strong and worth paying attention to, the music doesn’t quite match up and this attempt at a ballad misses the mark. Derrick LeFevre’s voice isn’t up to the task of singing this slow one, and the acoustic guitar riffs are lack innovation and style; they’re just plain vanilla. “Within Your Reach” is the better ballad on the disc, but still doesn’t deliver that knockout punch expected in a strong, complete ballad. The song starts with potential, but falls apart by the chorus and is never able to recover from that point.
“Fire, Blood, the Earth and Sea” is the big, Maiden-esque epic to close out the disc, and it delivers. This is a good way to say goodbye and a great showing of Lillian Axe’s talent. The acoustic guitar intros the song followed by a singing chant from Derrick LeFevre to set up the hammer punch that will soon follow. Like most great epics, this song is complete with several chord changes, lyrical depth, and a deeper message within the lyrics. This song pulsates with power and if there is one song that you should own from this album, “Fire, Blood, the Earth and Sea” is the one. This is an amazing, powerful song that is pleasing to the ear and sure to be enjoyed by any heavy metal fan.
While Derrick LeFevre may not be the original lead singer of the band, he has a great voice and is an excellent singer for Lillian Axe. While he struggles with the ballads, Derrick still has a strong voice and proves it on the heavier tracks from Sad Day On Planet Earth. His vocal styles combined with the amazing guitar work of Sam Poitevent and Steven Blaze make for a great combination and a lot of fun.
Sad Day On Planet Earth is rock with an edge. This is a solid album that delivers what rock fans want, hard hitting, catchy tunes that will move your feet and have you banging your head and throwing your metal hair all over the place. What more could a metal addict want?

0 JANUS SET TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM, ‘RED RIGHT RETURN,’ SEPTEMBER 22 ON REALID RECORDS; U.S. TOUR STARTS AUGUST 12

JANUS–David Scotney (vocals), Johnny Salazar (percussion), Alan Quitman (bass), Mike Tyranski (guitar/programming)–will be releasing their debut album, RED RIGHT RETURN, September 22 on REALID Records (through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group).
The album’s first single, “Eyesore,” has already been added to Rock radio stations nationwide including Q101/Chicago, WJJO/Madison, WWBN/Flint, KXFX/Santa Rosa, and KISW/Seattle. A video for the track—directed by Noah Shulman (Sleepless City Productions)–will make its world premiere on AOL’s “Noisecreep” (www.noisecreep.com) on Thursday, July 30.
JANUS’ music was previously featured on such TV shows as MTV’s “Road Rules,” “The Real World,” and “Bad Girls Club” and NBC’s “The Science of Love.”
RED RIGHT RETURN is a collection of ten seamlessly flowing tracks that showcase the band’s ability to bring the Rock world an intelligent fresh sound. JANUS’ debut harkens back to the days when albums were written as a total piece of work, as opposed to a group of single songs. The Chicago natives recorded, produced, created all the themes, digital presence, and artwork on their own. Lyrically, the songs have very strong universal underpinnings to real life experiences. While they tell a particular story, the end result is left open to interpretation and the listener is free to draw their own conclusions.
JANUS uses a broad range of dynamics and instruments not often used in the Rock world (violins, cellos, timpani drums, a full choir, air raid sirens and a glockenspiel) to produce a sound of melodic, ethereal backdrops grounded in aggressive, heavy, rhythms.
In an early review of RED RIGHT RETURN, Absolutepunk.net raved: “There are a few bands, given the opportunity, could take the radio by storm. JANUS is a perfect example of this type of band. If they were given the chance, and played on some larger radio stations alongside all of our alternative ‘favorites’ (sound-alikes), they could earn themselves hordes of fans.” While Away-team.com hailed in a 9 out of 10 album review: “Brilliant on many levels and impeccably engineered and produced to perfection.”
JANUS will be on the road non-stop throughout the remainder of 2009, and well into 2010, to promote RED LIGHT RETURN. The first batch of dates includes shows with Sevendust and Chevelle, as well as various radio stations festival appearances. Check them out at any of the following shows:

1 Ted Poley – Greatestits (2009)
I don’t typically review too many greatest hits collections at Hard Rock Hideout, as they rarely offer music fans anything new, other than a song or two.
I have been a fan of Danger Danger for years, but I must admit that I didn’t keep up with Ted Poley’s solo career after he left that band. This greatest hits collection is a cool career retrospective for Poley. It covers music from his solo project Poley/Pichler, Bone Machine, Melodica, Poley/Rivera, JK Northrup and more. There are also a few unreleased demos & songs. Many of the songs on this CD, I have listened to for the very first time, and I am surprised just how good some of this stuff really is.
Some of my favorites include the Journey like “Deep Inside”, the rockin’ “Simple Life”, the bluesy “Phone Sex” the hard rocker, “Luv on Me” the glam rock like “Takoyaki Rock” and the heavyiest cut “Wastin’ Your Luv”. The song “Ted Poley” is a parody of the KISS song “Unholy”. It features comedian CC Banana and Chris Caffery. It is good for a laugh or two.
Are all of the songs in this two CD set worthy of a greatest hits collection? Probably not. With over two hours of music, on the two CD’s in this set, Ted Poley’s Greatestits is a solid collection of tunes that will not disappoint two many melodic rock fans. This probably could have been shortened down to one CD, but with 33 new tracks at my disposal, I won’t complain too much.
You can score a copy of this 2 CD set at TedPoley.com, and CDInzane.com.
