SacredOathCDI am not sure why it has taken me so long to discover the metal band Sacred Oath. Judging from the great sounds of their new 14 song CD, I have a lot of catching up to do.  This CD is a packed full of classic 80’s style heavy metal, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

If you have been longing for music packed full of guitar solos, and soaring vocals, look no further.  The music on this CD reminds me of a cross between Iron Maiden, old Queensryche and possibly Savatage.  Rob Thorne has a pretty remarkable range in his vocals.  Why haven’t I heard of this guy before?!  I love his old school style of singing.  The band backing him up might not be household names amongst metal musicians, but there are some serious players on this CD. Guitarist Bill Smith is one of the newer members of Sacred Oath.  I am not sure where Rob Thorne, and Kenny Evans found this guy, but they found a great new talent.  He cuts loose with solos on just about every song.

I was immediately impressed by the opening cut, “Paradise Lost”.  Huge vocals, awesome galloping guitars, and fantastic solos to boot.  This is the way to open up an album!  By the time you get halfway through the song “Voodoo Dolls” you will be holding your horns high!  The CD doesn’t slow down until the mid tempo rocker, “Counting Zeros”. Rob Thorne’s towering vocals are the centerpiece of this killer cut.

“Caught In the Act” reminds me of Slave to the Grind era of Skid Row. This is a another high tempo rocker.

There are a couple of weak cuts on the CD, but overall, I am quite pleased with the majority of the songs here. The moments of brilliance well out weigh the band ones!  Some of my favorite cuts are, “Voodoo Dolls”, “Counting Zeros”, “Buried Alive”, and the title track “Sacred Oath”.

Sacred Oath has managed to crank out one of the better metal albums of 2009.  It is definitely a disc most metal heads should check out.

This CD is available in most major retailers starting today.  Don’t miss out on Sacred Oath! For more information on the band, check out their myspace page. You can check out the “Counting Zeros” video, as well as preview a couple of the tunes below.

This disc has definitely grown on me over the past several months. “Counting Zeros” is still my favorite track.
