Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler was airlifted to a hospital after falling from stage during a concert at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in western South Dakota.
Tyler, 61, fell while entertaining the crowd by dancing around after the sound system failed during the song “Love In an Elevator,” said Mike Sanborn, spokesman for the Buffalo Chip Campground, which hosted the outdoor concert.
Tyler was on the stage’s catwalk when he fell backward onto a couple of fans in the middle of what was a record crowd, Sanborn said. Security rushed to help him and the crowd cheered when Tyler got back up.
“He was good natured about it,” Sanborn said. “He was in good spirits when he got in the helicopter. He was talking and joking with the physician.”
“It was an unfortunate end to an extraordinary evening.”
Tyler suffered minor head and neck injuries and a shoulder injury, but it wasn’t immediately clear how serious that was, he said.
Tyler was taken backstage and around 12:15 a.m., Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry came out to tell the audience Tyler was being taken to the hospital and that the show would not go on.
It happened about halfway through the performance, Sanborn said.
“He does a lot of dancing on the stage and he does a lot of stuff with his mike stand. He put his stand down and twirled around and stepped backwards off the stage,” he said.
Sanborn said Tyler was attended to on site by a physician and flown to Rapid City Regional Hospital, the only major hospital in the region.
Jennifer Horton, the hospital’s vice president of public relations and marketing, said early Thursday that Tyler wasn’t in the hospital directory. Under the privacy laws, that means the person is either not there or chose not to be included in the directory, according to the hospital’s Web site.
Tyler attended Sturgis last year to promote his Dirico Motorcycles line and was back this year to do that again and play at the Buffalo Chip.
Fans were disappointed the concert was cut short but hoped Tyler was OK.
Lance Yellow Robe, who said he was 8 eight feet from the stage when Tyler fell off, told the Rapid City Journal “you could kind of see it coming because he was dancing all over the stage.
“I hope he’s OK,” Yellow Robe said. “I could care less about the concert being canceled.”
I’ve heard rumors about this phenomenon. It’s something I can’t quite wrap my mind around and don’t know why anyone lets it go on. The first rumblings I ever heard were last year: None of the guys in Hinder actually played on their album, excluding Austin Winkler for obvious reasons. I’m not a huge Hinder fan to begin with, but this just gave me one more excuse to dislike them. Who the hell puts out an album recorded by other musicians…and still has the balls to put their own names on it? Granted, I don’t have any proof whatsoever to prove any of this, nor do I have a Hinder album in my possession to check the credits, but I just wouldn’t put it pass them.
And while on my honeymoon, I was informed by a very good, dear friend who’s worked in the music industry for years that there is a certain VERY well known 80’s rock band who didn’t record their first album. I was in complete shock and was utterly disappointed. Although I have no hard evidence to prove this either, my friend’s word is good enough for me.
Can someone please explain to me why this happens? Why is it that perfectly capable rock stars allow other people to record their albums? It doesn’t make one ounce of sense to me. If these rock stars have to go out on tour, they have to play to a live audience. So why not play on their own album? Regardless, it does make me question the talent of these rock stars since what I hear on the album is a facade. It also makes me doubt whether or not some of my favorite albums were actually recorded by my favorite artists.
And what about the studio musicians who are responsible for these recordings? The problem is that no one will ever know it’s them. And as a musician, how could you let someone else take credit for your hard work? Sure it’s a paid gig, but is it worth it? Perhaps they gain exposure. Maybe it’s the break they need to get their foot in the record company’s door. I just don’t think I’d be able to do the same to get ahead.
Maybe someone out there who knows more about the ins and outs of the music industry can tell me more about this. Or maybe someone can dispel these horrible rumors so I can feel better about the world and regain what little faith I have left in the music industry. I know that the music industry is corrupt, but this is insane.
Former KISS guitarist preparing for a new solo record release, Anomaly
Guitar legend Ace Frehley is the special guest on the next edition of Hard Rock Nights, the weekly syndicated radio program. Ace joins JT to talk about the songs on his new upcoming record, Anomaly, guitars and fame. “I always knew I was going to be famous,” Ace admits. “I just wasn’t sure to what extent. I probably would have practiced a little more if I knew how many people I was going to influence.”
In addition to the visit from Ace, JT will spin some of Ace’s best known tracks, both from his solo career and his days with KISS, as well as the brand new single, “Outer Space.”

That little ol’ band from Texas – the legendary ZZ Top have announced that they will be returning to the UK to play two very special shows with support from the one and only Steel Panther.
After an unforgettable main stage performance at this year’s Download, Rock’s sharp dressed men will return to the UK this October to play two very special headline shows at Wembley Arena and Wolverhampton Civic Hall. ZZ Top have been together for 40 years and never once has their line up changed, they are one of the only bands with a career span of this magnitude to be able to lay claim to this distinction and boy does it show, not only were they inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, they were ranked number 44 on the VH1 ‘100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock’. Since the 80s they have had a string of massive hits, spawning some of the best and most instantly recognisable singles within the Hard Rock genre – ‘Gimme All Your Loving’, ‘Sharp Dressed Man’, ‘La Grange’ and ‘Legs’ to name but a few.
Support for these shows will come in the axe shredding, spandex wearing, spawn of your mum and the devil – Steel Panther who not only played a jaw dropping set at Download this year but also played An incredible sold out show at the 229 Club in London. Known for their outrageous stage presence and gargantuan guitar riffs, the band have been entertaining fans and scores of rock and entertainment VIPs with their raucous antics via L.A.’s longest running heavy metal show on the Sunset Strip for nearly a decade.
This is going to be one of THE rock shows of 2009 – fact. You’d be seriously insane to miss it.
Plus Steel Panther
Man oh Mercy! When I received a copy of Warpath’s CD, Damnation in the mail, I had no idea what to expect. What I found is one of the best new thrash metal bands to come along in years. This unsigned UK band plays with a fury and conviction, that rivals the biggest names in thrash metal.
What do they sound like? The high speed riffs are reminiscent of early Metallica, and Megadeth, and yet the vocals offer the listener a completely different experience. The bottom line is, this young thrash band delivers in a major way.
James Murphy from Death and Testament mastered this CD, and as a result it sounds absolutely amazing. You can’t listen to this CD without into a headbanging convulsion before long.
Unbelievable riffs, excellent compositions, a fantastic rhythm section help drive the tunes on Damnation. On some of the tunes on this disc, drummer James Davenport delivers more beats per minute than seems humanly possible. It must be an intoxicating experience to see this guy play. The riffs of Pete Hawthorne and Richard Goss are fantastic. The vocals of Richard Goss are really growing on me in a major way. He may not be the best singer I have ever heard, but his vocals work with this music well. I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to hear a singer truly sing instead of opting for the cookie monster approach that so many young metal bands are trying today.
Mark my words, with a record this good, Warpath will not be unsigned long. If you are a fan of thrash, you owe it to yourself to check these guys out. I will take this over Death Magnetic any day of the week!

Hardcore Superstar have released their first video in support of their brand new disc, Beg For It. Hardcore Superstar will take the stage on Saturday August 22nd at the Rock Gone Wild Festival in Northwood, IA. This is their only scheduled U.S. performance in 2009. Don’t miss them!
Breaking Benjamin’s new album titled “Dear Agony“, will be hitting stores on September 29th. The first single “I Will Not Bow” to be featured in the movie “Surrogates” starring Bruce Willis will be at radio on on August 17th.
TANTRIC’s fourth album, MIND CONTROL, was released today on the Silent Majority Group label (through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group). Produced by Brett Hestla (Creed, Framing Hanley, Dark New Day), it’s the follow-up to 2008’s THE END BEGINS, which produced the Top Five Rock hit, “Down and Out.”
The album’s first single, “Mind Control,” is currently #34 on the Mediabase Active Rock chart, garnering spins on over 50 radio stations nationwide including, WRIF/Detroit, WRAT/New Jersey, WIIL/Chicago, WCCC/Hartford, WIYY/Baltimore, and Sirius XM’s “Octane” channel. The Mason Dixon-directed video for the track also makes its world premiere today, all day, as part of MTV2’s “UNLEASHED” program.
As praised in a recent album review in Guitar Edge magazine: “…on this new album, the quintet offers some tantalizing nuggets such as guitarist’s Joe Pessia’s acoustic riffing on ‘The Past Is the Past’ and ‘What Are You Waiting For,’ at least one of which is almost certain to be a huge radio smash; the hyper-aggressive chorus vocal of ‘Coming Undone’; and the Rob Zombie meets Alice in Chains with an E-Bow ‘Let’s Start.’ Four stars.”
Meanwhile, the band–Hugo Ferreira (lead vocals, keyboards), Joe Pessia (guitars), Erik Leonhardt (bass and vocals), Marcus Ratzenboeck (violin) and Richie Monica (drums)—recently started their U.S. tour along with special guests Aranda and Vayden, which includes various radio station festivals along the route.

Up to the minute news directly from the Primal Fear camp, one day before the band starts their 16.6 trip to South America, some days later to North America!
Ralf: It’s so cool that we can add Colombia to our map and rock there for the first time. We’re really sad that we can’t play Chile this time, but to come back in three beloved countries like Mexico, Argentina and Brazil is always a huge pleasure. I’m looking forward to present the songs of our new album to our loyal fans and rock the night. The communication and their enthusiasm in South America is always very special. There’s just one word to explain the atmosphere of a Primal Fear concert in South America: Electrifying!
Henny: This will be an absolute highlight of my career. There can’t be one European musician out there who isn’t thrilled to tour the US with his own songs & music. Our target in Primal Fear was always to be known as a worldwide touring act and for me personally, it’s a real pleasure, that our focus is on North America in the coming month and in the next year. I know that the worldwide metalfans appreciate the consequence and tenacity of our course!
Alex: I must add, that I’m really excited to play with Primal Fear in South & North America. It’s a dream come true! I did a special work out during the last month to be in top shape for the shows and you know that the stage is my life. I will give more than 100% every day and I will enjoy every minute! It’s so great to be part of this tour!
Randy: Coming Home :-) ….. for me coming back to Canada to play with Primal Fear is a big thrill, not only because I’m from there, but because we’ve played there so little since I’ve been in the band. It will be great to finally play to the North American Primal Fear fans again too! I’m sure the shows will be rockin – I’ve only played in Canada ONCE since I moved over to Germany in 98, I can’t wait & see you all soon!
New Primal Fear Video Clip
Mat: we will shoot two new video clips during the next weeks. The first one will be released in September in connection with our TV campaign on iMusic TV and the second video clip will be released during the European tour in mid November! We will shoot a lot of interesting footage filmed in the forthcoming weeks, so we can present two really interesting clips for songs from the new album 16.6 – which songs? The first clip will have a South American, the second a North American vibe J
The European Tour
Ralf: It’s the same feeling & vibe this time as for all other territories. The difference is, that Europe is our home and especially this time, with the new 16.6 songs in the setlist, it will be something special. We feel so strong in the band now, that nothing can stop us!
Mat: I agree, it feels really good on stage and the new songs are perfect additions to our current Best-Of live set and our new found metal attitude. Even I miss my friend Magnus, Alex is doing a killer job. With Brainstorm on the bill in Europe, we have a fantastic second band with us and we’re working on another third great band to present an overall strong package for our fans. And it feels really good to have some good friends like Duce & Martin back in the team again!
Plans for 2010?
Frank Suepfle from ITM Agency: We’re already working on a second and longer run through North America and another European leg on the 16.6 tour before the festival season starts and we will play a lot of open air festivals next year!
Michael Kiske / Amanda Somerville
Mat: That’s my newest project and we’re working hard on the songwriting for the first album. It’s a pleasure to write & produce Michael’s next album and with Amanda as the co-singer it’s something very special. I wrote songs with Magnus and Jimmy Kresic for the album and we’re really excited about the songs. Eight tracks are pre-produced now and we need another two songs before we will start the real recordings. After Forever mainman Sander Gommans plans to join us and he’s working on new songs with Amanda at the moment! Look out for a melodic metal masterpiece in early 2010!
Ralf Scheepers Solo Album
Ralf: I’m still collecting ideas and riffs …. and I can’t wait to start the production together with Mat. I’ve signed a deal with Frontiers Records and we will make this happen during the coming months. I will welcome a lot of interesting guests and if my plan will come reality, it’s a dream come true with a killer concept and strong songs!
Rock Meets Classic
Mat: This will be a huge challenge for everybody involved. My good friend and well respected concert promoter Manfred Hertlein introduced me to Toto singer Bobby Kimball and some weeks later we had 14 dates booked in the finest venues of Germany & the Netherlands for January 2010. Featuring the originals singers of Foreinger – Lou Gramm, Nazareth – Dan McCafferty and Toto – Bobby Kimball – a killer classic rock line up! Maestro Philipp Maier from Dubai will write the arrangements and conduct the Prague Symphonic Orchestra. I will direct the RMC band & choir featuring Henny Wolter on guitar, Jimmy Kresic on keyboards, Martin Schmidt on drums plus Amanda Somerville, Verena Schock and Tiffany Krikland on backing vocals. Look out for an exciting eveneing and songs like Cold As Ice, Juke Box Hero, Hold The Line, Africa, Love Hurts or This Flight Tonight with a brandnew vibe! We’re aleady in negotiations for more concerts and to continue the project in 2011.
The Black Book
Randy: The Black Book is “An Introduction To Creative Metal Drumming” wil be my first ever drum DVD. On the dvd I’m playing along to original Primal Fear songs as well as a selection of songs from DuskMachine and past bands such as Annihilator, Skew Siskin and Rooky. Also include will be two drum solos (studio and live) and sections on basic to advanced rudiments, special parts from the songs broken down in real and slow motion time and various fills and stick tricks I’ve developed over my drumming career. There is also an interview where I’m talking about my life as a drummer from the day I started to the present. It looks likely that the DVD will be distributed by Hudson Music.
New Primal Fear DVD & Live CD
Mat: We will film footage with 3 cameras during every part of the forthcoming tour this year. We will start in South America, the US, Canada, Europe and later this year in Japan. The show in Sao Paulo will be filmed by Patrick Kolb. We will shoot add. shows in Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York and Montreal. Good friend Bomber & his Visions In Fear team will film two shows in Switzerland and Germany. Achim Koehler will record selected shows on pro audio material. If everything will work out cool, we plan to work on a forthcoming DVD and Live CD for 2010 and if all involved people & companies will support this release for the fans.
Mat Sinner New Book Project ……Prison Break? (The International Version)
Mat: I plan to write some interesting stories about the last three years during the forthcoming world tour and add them to with some unreleased pictures to my existing biography. „The Book Of Seven Seals“ was released in german language and is already collectors item. Now it’s time to end up some speculation, controversial stories, funny moments rename the bio. My Sinner buddy and Metal Hammer journalist Christof Leim will review and edit the old version and this time, we will release an international version. I haven’t decided yet, if we will make a limited edition of the forthcoming Primal Fear DVD and add the book as a special present to our fans.
Japan & Primal Fear
Ralf: First of all, we want to thank all our loyal fans for all the super positive e-mails we’ve received about a forthcoming Tour in Japan. 16.6 reached the best chart entry in Japan of the entire Primal Fear career. We’ve got the word from our record company King Records and our agency that everybody is working hard on the subject! We are ready for our fans in Japan and if everything works out well, we will play some concerts during the next months!
Alex Beyrodt’s Last Words:
I’m totally happy and satisfied to be back with Primal Fear and I’m proud to be a part of Primal Fear family! We know eachother for so long, shared a lot of great memories and hotel rooms. We’ve travelled thousands of miles together and Mat is my friend for a lifetime. The Primal Fear / UDO tour was one of the best experiences of my career The new songs are killer and new setlist is even more exciting than ever. I can’t wait to entert he stage in Mexico City and start my engine!
Henny Wolter’s Last Words
It’s my best time in Primal Fear! It feels really good and I’m enjoying every day in the band! If we’re on tour with the band, it makes me a lot of younger in seconds, it’s just like a big party with a lot of good friends. We’re working hard on every matter, but it’s always a pleasure, friendly, funny and creative. My comeback with the band was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. In the meantime, I know the guys very well and they are very talented and have a great humor!
See you on tour!

Today (August 4th, 2009) marks the 20th anniversary of the release of L.A. Guns superb sophomore effort, Cocked & Loaded. To this listener Cocked & Loaded is easily the best release of L.A. Guns storied but troubled career.
I have listened to this CD countless times over the years, and it remains my defacto favorite from the L.A. Guns camp. Quite a bit of L.A. Guns live set comes from this disc including: “Rip & Tear”, “Sleazy Come Easy Go”, “Never Enough”, “Malaria”, and “The Ballad of Jayne”.
The great songs don’t end there. Cocked & Loaded dishes up a bunch of cool rockers including the kick ass opener, “Letting Go”, “17 Crash”,”Wheels of Fire” and “I Wanna Be Your Man”.
Phil Lewis has never sounded better than he did on Cocked & Loaded (although he still sings these song remarkably well today). Tracii Guns guitar work on this disc is just stupid good.
It is crazy to see what this band could do in their peak lineup. I doubt we will ever see the classic lineup of the band back together ever again. They are too busy squabbling over the L.A. Guns name instead of trying to show folks why they were one of the best bands on Sunset Strip, when they all played together.
At least we have Cocked & Loaded to keep the memories alive. This is as close to perfection as 80’s sleaze metal ever got to. A worth pick up for any hard rock fan! Highly Recommended!
You can grab dirt cheap copies of this CD at this link. It is worth every penny!

BRIAN “HEAD” WELCH is set to launch the second leg of his first-ever solo U.S. tour in support of his debut album, SAVE ME FROM MYSELF, which was released September 9 on his Driven Music Group label.
With a new band at his side–Scott Von Heldt (guitars), Ralph Patlan (guitars), Michael Valentine (bass), Dan Johnson (drums), Brian Ruedy (keyboards/programming)—HEAD will embark on another round of dates starting August 14 in Los Angeles, including a free concert in Las Vegas on August 29 at the 20,000 seat Thomas & Mack Arena along with Flyleaf, Blindside, and others.
“The first leg of the tour a couple months ago was a great warm up tour,” says HEAD. “Now we’re ready to kick it up a notch. We’re coming into my neck of the woods with this West Coast leg and I’m expecting to see a great turn out and a lot of energy at the shows!”
SAVE ME FROM MYSELF, had tremendous sales its first week, making its debut on Billboard‘s “Top Hard Rock Albums” chart at #13, #7 on Billboard’s “Top Independent Albums” chart and #21 on SoundScan’s “Top Current Rock Albums” chart. Overall, against all genres, including new releases and catalogue, Head’s album debuted on Billboard’s “Top 200 Albums” chart at # 63.
Critics are taking notice as well. To wit:
“…an honest, forceful, spiritual metal record…”
–Brian Stillman, Revolver
“It’s downright impressive how a guitarist who has never sung before could release such a melodic, haunting record…”
–Robert VerBruggen, Outburn
“As shown throughout Head’s debut solo effort, SAVE ME FROM MYSELF, though his lyrical messages may now be more positive and uplifting than anything found in the Korn hard rock catalogue, the style of music brought forth here is as heavy as anything Mr. Welch has ever presented before.”
“The hefty, synth-led ‘Flush’ nods towards Korn and early Static-X, while the amusingly titled ‘Die Religion Die’ is a dark stomper. All evidence that for Head, life these days, is definitely peachy.”
–Ronnie Kerswell, Rock Sound (U.K.)

Atlantic recording group Shinedown has announced details of its upcoming headline tour. The much-anticipated dates will kick off on September 10th at Baltimore’s Powerplant Live, and then traverse the United States though an October 24th finale at Charlotte, North Carolina’s Uptown Amphitheater (see below itinerary).
The tour carries on the sensational success of Shinedown’s RIAA gold certified third album, “THE SOUND OF MADNESS.” The acclaimed collection is highlighted by the #1 smash, “Second Chance,” currently standing atop the Hot AC airplay ranking for the eighth consecutive week. The Jacksonville, Florida-based quartet’s biggest crossover hit to date, “Second Chance” has also topped the charts at both Active Rock and Mainstream, while reaching the top 5 at CHR/Top 40 outlets nationwide. After dominating the rock charts, the track’s mainstream success has seen the band’s profile raised dramatically — People magazine recently featured the band while Entertainment Weekly highlighted “Second Chance” in its “10 Songs of Summer” playlist by noting, “Every summer needs its shamelessly histrionic big-blast-chorus crossover from the modern-rock charts. Shinedown win this year’s prize.” The band will be performing “Second Chance” on NBC’s “The Today Show,” airing Friday, September 4.
In addition, the RIAA platinum certified single’s companion video has proven equally popular. The clip — directed by Ryan Smith (Eminem, Breaking Benjamin) — is presently in “Heavy” rotation at MTV and MTV Hits, “Elite 8″ rotation at MTV2, and “X-Large” rotation at VH1, where it has gone to #1 on the network’s Top 20 Countdown numerous times.
As if all that weren’t enough, Shinedown’s most recent single, “The Sound of Madness,” continues to ring out at radio outlets across the country. The track currently stands at #2 at Mainstream, Alternative, and Active Rock, where it previously reached the #1 position. With the album’s lead-off single, “Devour,” also going to the top of the charts, Shinedown has earned the distinction of having all three singles from “THE SOUND OF MADNESS” become #1 Active Rock smashes. What’s more, the success of “The Sound Of Madness” marks Shinedown’s tenth consecutive top 10 showing at the format.
The next single from “THE SOUND OF MADNESS” will be “If You Only Knew,” slated to ship to Active Rock, Alternative Rock, and Hot AC radio outlets in late August. A companion video clip is currently in pre-production.
Shinedown — who recently performed “Second Chance” on CBS’ “The Early Show Saturday Edition” and NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” — is currently traveling the country as part of the “Stimulate This!” tour, set to run through late August. The four-band bill — also featuring fellow Atlantic artists Staind and Halestorm, along with Chevelle — was designed to offer hard rock fans maximum value at a minimal price. In a show of solidarity for their fans, Shinedown and their tourmates have worked closely with the concert promoters to create a package of exceptional value for ticket buyers. Through their collective efforts, base ticket prices for “Stimulate This!” remain mostly under $40 each — half the cost of comparable multi-band summer tour packages — with some venues offering lawn seats for less than $10.
Produced by multiple Grammy award winner Rob Cavallo (Kid Rock, Green Day), “THE SOUND OF MADNESS” debuted at #8 on the Billboard 200 upon its release last summer. In addition to enjoying their biggest domestic cross-over success, the album also marks the dynamic hard rock band’s first foray into the international marketplace, where it has been met with incredible enthusiasm, particularly in the UK: “Shinedown deliver monster ballads Bon Jovi would be proud of,” decreed Metal Hammer, “and there’s an angsty crunch that can comfortably kick Disturbed’s arse.” “There’s little doubt that Shinedown are among the most exciting new bands around,” declared Classic Rock, while Kerrang! praised singer Brent Smith as “simply a masterful entertainer and frontman, a star.”
Fueled by the ecstatic popular and critical response, Shinedown recently crossed the Atlantic for a major European tour, including performances at such world famous festivals as England’s Download Festival, Germany’s Rock am Ring and Rock im Park, and the Netherlands’ Pinkpop. Following the tour, Kerrang! again waxed ecstatic: “The Florida quintet receive a headliners welcome for a set that combines pummeling metal riffery with suitable hooky choruses and a sense of showmanship straight out of the Aerosmith/Guns N’ Roses school of rock.”
“THE SOUND OF MADNESS” follows the band’s RIAA platinum certified 2003 debut “LEAVE A WHISPER” and its gold certified 2005 follow-up, “US AND THEM.” Both albums have yielded a staggering seven consecutive top 5 radio hits, including “Fly From the Inside,” “45,” and the chart-topping “Save Me.”
Shinedown is Brent Smith (vocals), Barry Kerch (drums), Zach Myers (guitars), and Eric Bass (bass).

Super 400 is slated to hit the airwaves this month with their new single “Flashlight” from their forthcoming junior album. Denver, Colorado based Response Records is releasing the album in the September 15. Sweet Fist will be manufactured and distributed through Rock Ridge Music with an exclusive license.
“We’re thrilled to be working with Response Records to distribute and promote Super 400″ , says Jason Spiewak, Rock Ridge Music. He goes on to say, “Sweet Fist” is a tremendous rock record, one that will please the band’s current fan base and surely make them new ones.”
Lifelong fans of the influential Memphis sounds of Stax Records and Big Star, Super 400 chose the legendary Ardent Studios in Memphis, Tennessee to record their third album, Sweet Fist. As much history museum as functioning studio, Ardent has captured the essence of such greats as Led Zeppelin, Stevie Ray Vaughn, ZZ Top, Isaac Hayes, & Big Star, to name a few. As the legends before them, they recorded the album entirely on tape, capturing most final cuts on the first take.
Hall of fame mastering guru Larry Nix, along with son Kevin, refurbished the one and only Stax Record Lathe that before being moved to Ardent, created the first copy and master for every Stax Record and later classic albums such as Led Zeppelin: III, Stevie Ray Vaughn: The Sky Is Crying and ZZ Top: Afterburner. Months of valuable time and unmentionable resources were spent to insure that the historical lathe made its’ return debut to cut the new Super 400 album. It can humbly be said that history has been made.
Adam Anderson, Response Records states, “The new album Sweet Fist marks a magnificent pinnacle in the sonic evolution of Super 400. Both powerful and soulful, the band took the analog Memphis sound and gave it a shot of adrenaline on this record.” The band has become one of the most loyally followed rock bands in the Northeast, and the fan base is growing; last year’s national tours started a chain of bootleg recordings that have been traded and coveted around the world. Back home, the mayor of Troy gave Super 400 their own official holiday, ‘Super 400 Day‘, to recognize the band’s musical achievements as well as the love and support the city has shown for them.
Each of their completely unique performances evokes the raw, euphoric essence of Rock and Roll. Their upcoming release, Sweet Fist, truly reflects the light and dark of this new millennium; it unravels the tales of this modern world with an analog tongue rarely heard in the digital age. It represents both homage to their influences and an insightful progression of the dynamic power of Super 400.
Five years after they announced Ted Poley had rejoined Danger Danger and 20 years after the release of their debut, Danger Danger returns with “Revolve”. Was it worth the wait? I guess that depends if you are a fan of the Danger Danger from 20 years ago with songs filled with sexual innuendo such as “Naughty Naughty” and “Slipped Her The Big One” or an older more mature band with 20+ years of music business experience behind them. I happen to be a fan of both and have made no secret of how much I was looking forward to hearing the new music. While I liked the albums with Paul Laine on vocals, Ted Poley will always be the voice of Danger Danger to me, and he has never sounded better than he does on “Revolve”.
“That’s What I’m Talking About” starts “Revolve” off and while I don’t think it is the best way to open the album it is a great song that makes you want to crank the stereo up and sing at the top of your lungs, the rhythm section of Steve West and Bruno Ravel sound as great as ever and Rob Marcello plays guitar like a man obsessed. “the Ghost of Love” is a great melodic rocker the band is famous for as tight as the band sounds you would never think it has been 11 years since Ravel, West, and Poley were in the studio together. “Killin’ Love” has some slow driving bass lines and though it is a slower mid tempo song it still makes you want to crank it up and sing along. “Hearts On The Highway” can’t say enough about this song it is classic Danger Danger at their best, great melodies, great hooks and background vocals one of the best on the album. “Fugitive” is a ballad with acoustic guitars, piano, and strings starting things off which could give the guys a Top 40 hit if released as a single. “Keep On Keepin’ On” would be my pick as the album opener this is a great summertime song yet another track that makes you want to crank it up and sing along as your flying down the highway, probably Rob Marcello’s best solo on the album and another one of the best songs on “Revolve”. “Rocket To Your Heart” once again classic Danger Danger, Ted Poley sounds great on this song as does Bruno’s bass. “F.U. $” is an anthem about exactly what the title suggests filled with some great gang vocals, another nice solo from Marcello that should go over well live. “Beautiful Regret” is a heavy modern sounding song but fits perfectly on “Revolve”. “Never Give Up” is a mid tempo song that would’ve fit perfectly on the band’s debut or “Screw It” once again classic Danger Danger sound. Leave it to Danger Danger to save the best for last with “Dirty Mind” not only does Poley sound great the band as a whole really nail this song a great rocking song and the perfect way to close “Revolve”.
No matter what you think of Danger Danger they definitely deserve some respect. While alot of other “80’s” bands have dried up and blown away these guys kept putting out some great music and with Ted Poley back in the band I believe it is only going to get better. I just hope it isn’t another 5 years before the follow-up to “Revolve” is released.

Rock Gone Wild, America’s newest and most diverse rock festival, has announced that Epiphone Guitar has signed on as the official guitar of the festival. The company will partner with Rock Gone Wild to produce an exclusive signature festival guitar that will be used in promotional giveaways to further enhance the profile of both RGW and Epiphone.
The Epiphone story has roots as far back as 1873, but the modern history starts in 1957, when the brand was acquired by guitar giant Gibson. A major break for the Epiphone brand came when the Beatles used Casino guitars (made by Epiphone) on many of its American tour and television appearances. The company has continued to expand over the years, and continues to support guitarists worldwide with the finest in musical instruments. At the peak of his band’s popularity, Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher used the iconic Supernova signature model, which was built specifically for him. Current Epiphone signature models include the Zakk Wylde, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Nikki Sixx, Jack Casady, Tony Iommi and more. The modern Epiphone catalog offers greater diversity than ever with a wide range of guitars, basses, mandolins, banjos and amplifiers.
Rock Gone Wild will award three Epiphone guitars to lucky Platinum seat ticket holders during the festival’s weekend run. On Friday, Puddle of Mudd will visit the Sinner’s Lounge and sign a limited edition Rock Gone Wild guitar for the lucky winner. On Saturday, Twisted Sister will giveaway and sign one of its own signature Epiphone guitars after its closing performance. On Sunday, Sevendust will also sign a limited edition Rock Gone Wild guitar for a platinum ticket holder in the Sinner’s Lounge.
Organizers of the show have also announced that the Iowa-based, four-day festival is being moved from Freedom Park in Algona to The Diamond Jo Casino in Northwood. The Diamond Jo Casino is a gambling casino and entertainment complex located just south of the Iowa/Minnesota border on Interstate 35 in Northwood. Rock Gone Wild is an all-ages festival, which will be held outdoors utilizing the casino and adjacent properties. RV and tent camping areas are available for the duration of the festival. The new venue is 110 miles south of Minneapolis and 135 miles north of Des Moines, which means fans who are flying into those areas will actually be closer to the venue than they would have been to the Algona site.
The festival will still be held on August 20-23. All previously sold tickets will be honored on the original dates. The festival organizers have announced the line-ups for each day of the festival:
Thursday: Saxon, Eve 6, Jackyl, Warrant, April Wine, Honeymoon Suite, Black ‘N Blue, Ernie and the Automatics (featuring former Boston members Barry Goudreau and Sib Hashian), Sick of Sarah and Savior.
Friday: Puddle of Mudd, Saliva, Saigon Kick, Cherie Currie (of the Runaways), Powerman 5000, Marcy Playground, Rhino Bucket, Ashamed, Attention, Signum A.D., Throw the Fight, and the Iowa Battle of the Bands winner.
