0 Mason Keck and Trae Vedder to Appear on Hard Rock Nights
Hard Rock Nights, the weekly syndicated radio program, welcomes two special guests on its next episode: Mason Keck from Jive Mother Mary, and Trae Vedder from Death on Two Wheels.

Jive Mother Mary, an outfit from North Carolina, has just independently released their debut full-length album “All Fall Down” in August. The group, made up of three high school seniors, has been playing professionally for over 2 years and has clocked in over 150 shows. Heavily influenced by the classic rock of Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, and Lynyrd Skynyrd, the band attracted the attention of producer John Custer (Corrosion of Conformity, Cry of Love). Lead singer and guitarist Keck will speak about the album, his favorite cuts as opposed to the fan favorites, and his guitar setup.

Death On Two Wheels, hailing from the Atlanta area, has put out “Separation of Church and Fate,” an eclectic record drawing from a variety of musical influences. Reviewer Jaan Uhelszki of Paste Magazine says the band “makes rock ‘n’ roll dangerous again, with slurry-blurry lyrics, half-cocked dreamspeak of portents and regret, and a formidable guitar attack that recalls the nasty duels Allen Collins waged with Gary Rossington before Skynyrd’s final plane ride.” Vedder, who “has the same grit and red clay in his voice that Chris Robinson had before he got famous and complacent,” will talk about the formation of the band, its influences, and his favorite city to play live.
Hard Rock Nights can be heard on several rock and metal stations. Click https://hardrocknights.wordpress.com/affiliates for a complete list of stations and times.

0 Cavo – Bright Nights, Dark Days (2009)
I first heard about the St. Louis, Missouri band Cavo, when they were announced as one of the second stage acts for Cruefest 2. I was relatively unimpressed by their music on myspace. I did see part of their set during Cruefest 2, and I must admit that I thought the song “Champagne” was kind of cool. This led to me checking out their debut CD, Bright Nights, Dark Days, to see if there was more quality rock worth checking out.
After my first spin of this CD, my first reaction is Cavo is not a hard rock band at all. I thought they might be a hard rock act after getting the Cruefest 2 gig. They are more of alternative rock group with a pop/rock slant. The majority of the songs on this CD could have crossover appeal, meaning the songs could turn up on different radio formats. I am just not sure how much this CD will appeal to hard rock fans.
“Champagne” is the lead off single, and unless you haven’t listened to rock radio lately, you have probably heard this song quite a few times. It is a good tune, and is a #1 hit for Cavo.
“Crash” has been released as the second single and is a pretty catchy tune that is in the vein of Daughtry.
“Let It Go” was originally featured on the Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen soundtrack. It is a more mellow number and a bit too safe in my opinion. I didn’t care for this tune very much.
“Blame” is another tune that screams hit for Cavo. It is a mid tempo number, and one of the harder moments on Bright Nights, Dark Days.
Overall, Cavo has crafted a solid pop/rock album that will likely appeal to fans of bands like Saving Abel, Nickelback, and Daughtry. I wish it had a few more harder tunes for a fan like me, but I can’t deny that there are some quality tunes for mainstream rock fans to enjoy. The band will likely have a few hits on their hands before it is all said and done.
Check them out on myspace, where you can check out three of Cavo’s songs. If you like what you hear, you can purchase the CD at this link.

0 Blanc Faces “Falling From the Moon” Coming in November! Audio Samples Available!
Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of BLANC FACES new album entitled “Falling from The Moon” on November 6th in Europe and November 26th in the USA.
In 2005 one of the brightest new stars on the Melodic Rock scene appeared during the hot summer time. In July of that year Blanc Faces, headed by the brothers duo, Robbie and Brian La Blanc debuted with their self titled album showing the world that the time for big harmonies was not over. With a stunning production and some truly brilliant songs, Blanc Faces managed to catch the attention of the entire Melodic Rock oriented press and loads of new fans. Following the huge responses, the band appeared for the first time in Europe at the first edition of the United Forces of Rock Festival in Ludwigsburg, Germany where they literally took the crowd by storm.
Little by little the two brothers (who by the way have an outstanding
career in music including providing background vocals on music involving Toto lead singer Bobby Kimball and legendary singer Ronnie Spector) started putting together musical material for the second album which they completed in the summer of 2009. ”My brother wrote most of the material, I wrote some lyrics for it” says singer Robbie LaBlanc. “It’s fumy when you think back on the time period you write something it parallels what’s going on in your life at that time whether you know it or not. When I’m listening to the new CD I can remember what I was thinking or feeling at that moment. My brother just likes to write melodic songs, I think the approach was pretty much the same as the last CD”.
Not wanting to touch a team that gave superb results on the debut record, Blanc Faces worked again with Kyle Woodring (Dennis DeYoung; Survivor; John Mellencamp) on drums, Jeff Batter (Cannata) on keyboards, and Butch Taylor and Michael Patzig on lead guitar. “We are real happy that it’s done and sounding great” continues Robbie, “I took a lot more time with the vocals on this CD. There were songs that I thought were done and I’d listen back and want to do it again. Sometimes you can drive your self nuts with that but I usually know when something sounds right. We hope everyone feels the same way!”
Just a few weeks after the completion of the record the sad news of Kyle Woodring passing reached everyone, so the entire album is dedicated to this amazing musician.
Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69, Place Vendome etc.) delivered once again a superior quality in the mixing sessions so once again the end result is an astonishing album that restores the faith in Classic AOR / Melodic Rock music. If you are a fan of Journey, Foreigner and Survivor, you will love this recording!
Final tracklisting of “Falling From the Moon” includes: I Come Alive; Falling From The Moon; I Swear To You; Everything: It’s All About the Love; Goodbye Summer Goodbye; Deep In The Heart; Don’t Take It Away; Like A Believer; Light Of The World; I Will; Fly. Includes also: Falling From The Moon videoclip (you can watch it below).
3 New Video – Lynyrd Skynyrd – Simple Life

Lynyrd Skynyrd’s new album Gods & Guns was released today, September 29th. Check out their new video, “Simple Life”.
0 Hurt – Goodbye to The Machine (2009)
Hurt can best be described as a band that is still finding their one true voice, which is what makes them so great. Most rock critics would be quick to dismiss them as a metal band that never made it, but they would fail to see the full spectrum of influences that are represented in Hurt’s music. With a mainstream sound smoothly blended with indie influence, hard rock guitars, and even a violin solo (or two), Hurt’s Goodbye to The Machine is nothing short of amazing.
Part Radiohead, part Black Stone Cherry, part Seether, with a touch of Saving Abel and a smattering of other influences, Hurt has combined all the best elements of these bands and turned them into their own stylistic sound. They mix country, metal, alternative, pop, and jazz into one hard rock beauty, Goodbye to The Machine.
Goodbye to The Machine opens with the heavy hitting “Got Jealous”, the hard rock tale of a jealous lover, drugged up and plotting his revenge. This is a haunting, dark and angry lead song that is a great introduction to the band. “Got Jealous” is an excellent track and an amazing opener that forces you to stay for the rest of the album.
Shaun Morgan from Seether stops by to provide guest vocals (alongside lead vocalist J. Loren Wince) on “World Ain’t Right”, which is a cool appearance, but unfortunately it’s a weak song. In time, this song may grow on me, but after a few listens, this is a ballad that lacks power. The message is there, and the music is pretty, just no punch.
“Dreams Away” fights hard for the title of best song on the record and wins. This is a song that should be smothering mainstream radio. A catchy, rocking tune that builds on an excellent guitar riff, contains exceptional lyrics, and has the proper elements of a great single. Wince’s vocals are sharp and invigorating and collaborate perfectly with Paul Spatola’s guitar work. “Dreams Away” is an incredible song that makes the entire disc worth the price of purchase.
Goodbye to The Machine really picks up in the second half. If the first half of this disc is a decent, solid recording, then the second half can only be described as a masterpiece. With “Well”, “Pills”, “Dreams Away”, and “Fighting Tao”, all competing alongside “Got Jealous” for best song on the disc, the second half truly rocks.
The real power of Goodbye to The Machine is the progressive changes contained in each song. From slow and melodic to hard and heavy, Goodbye to The Machine runs the gauntlet of musical tastes. Wince’s vocals are solid throughout the record and show a wide range of ability and talent. Spatola’s guitar playing is stellar and completes the album. The solos stand out and reveal the true talent that Spatola has. Hard rock guitar and drums, blended with acoustic intros and interludes, the occasional violin solo, and a voice that can sing to all of these instruments and more, Goodbye to The Machine may have to go into consideration for one of 2009’s best releases.
Bottom line? This is an album that you have to add to your collection. If you consider yourself a fan of hard rock music and are looking for the next great thing, pick up a copy of Hurt’s Goodbye to The Machine. It’s an excellent way to spend an hour of your day.

1 Alice in Chains – Black Gives Way To Blue (2009)
I didn’t think we would ever see another album from Alice in Chains after the death of singer Layne Staley. It has been fourteen long years since the band’s 1995 self titled album.
I must admit that I had some reservations before listening to Black Gives Way to Blue. Lets face it, Layne Staley left some pretty big shoes to fill. Is Alice in Chains new singer William DuVall up to the challenge?
DuVall’s voice, mixed with the back up vocals of Jerry Cantrell gives Alice in Chains close to the same sound that helped the band sell millions of albums in the nineties. The big problem is DuVall’s voice is often hidden behind Cantrell’s voice, and the heavy guitars. He isn’t really given a chance to shine as Alice in Chains new voice.
“Check My Brain” is a doom laden grunge masterpiece that only AIC could make work. The guitars are tuned down, so that that the whole key of the song sounds utterly creepy, yet cool. The vocals on this song are perfect. This sounds like classic Alice in Chains.
“Last of My Kind” looses a little bit of the doominess, but is still heavy as hell. This song requires multiple listens to fully appreciate.
“Your Decision” is an acoustic guitar based track. This is the first song where DuVall’s voice is allowed to shine without the layers of guitar and heavy bass. It sounds great and ought to be a single for Alice in Chains.
“A Looking In View” is the longest track on this album, but this moody mid-tempo number might be too long for its own good. This song kind of plods along never really offers the listener a climax. It is seven minutes of sludgey rock that I could have lived without.
“When the Sun Rose Again” is another acoustic track with some odd percussion thrown in for good measure. This song doesn’t work for me either.
At this point in the record, I was hoping to stumble upon a hit worthy tune from AIC. Hopefully somewhere on this disc is a monster song that I could not live without. I wouldn’t call it a monster track, but “Lesson Learned” is more like the AIC of old. A cool heavy tune.
“Take Her Out” is another heavy mid tempo number that resembles the classic AIC sound.
The closing and title track “Black Gives Way to Blue” is a tribute to Layne Staley. The piano on this song is played by none other than Elton John. Yes, you read that correctly. This is a very slow and short tune, but is also quite amazing. It is a very cool tune that honors Layne Staley well.
Does Black Gives Way To Blue live up to the Alice in Chains legacy? No, I don’t think it is even close. The vocals are great. The guitar work is great. So where does the problem lie?
The overall pace of the album is pretty slow, and the songs don’t stick with you. Once upon a time, the band could write some pretty cool grungy rockers with lyrics that were ultimately catchy and memorable. There just aren’t enough of these on this record to make me want to play it a whole bunch. Yes there are songs that I like on this disc, but even with repeated listens something appears to be missing. I am glad Alice in Chains is back, but Black Gives Way To Blue is ultimately disappointing.

2 JOURNEY To Release ‘Live In Manila’ DVD

JOURNEY’s “Live In Manila” two-DVD set will be released October 2, 2009. Filmed with RED technology, which utilizes special 4K high-definition cameras with a resolution exceeding 35mm film that gives the footage an extra dynamic quality, the DVD captures JOURNEY’s historic concert in Manila, Philippines. Performing more than two hours’ worth of classic favorites, as well as new hits from the band’s latest album, “Revelation”, “Live In Manila” documents the triumphant homecoming of the band’s singer Arnel Pineda.
On March 14, 2009, JOURNEY returned to Pineda’s homeland and introduced him as their new lead singer to a crowd of nearly 30,000. Group members Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Ross Valory, and Deen Castronovo swelled with pride as they witnessed the Filipino people embrace Arnel and the music of JOURNEY.
By the time of the Manila concert, more than 800,000 copies of “Revelation” — the band’s first album with Arnel — had been sold, and was supported with sold-out shows all over the world.
The “Live In Manila” DVD, like “Revelation”, is being sold exclusively at Wal-Mart in North America.

0 W.E.T. To Release Debut CD in November, Audio Samples Are Available!

Frontiers Records is excited to announce the release the highly anticipated, self-titled debut album from W.E.T. on November 6th in Europe and on November 24th in the USA as a special CD/DVD package.
Featuring the immense talents of singer/songwriter Jeff Scott Soto (Talisman); guitarist/songwriter Erik Martensson (Eclipse) and keyboardist Robert Sall (Work Of Art), this is the melodic hard rock album you have been waiting for! (W)ork of art (E)clipse (T)alisman was written and recorded over the last 12 months and features the best elements of the three bands the principle artists have been involved in. And the guys all feel the same way about this album:
Erik: “In the beginning it was just a project set up by Frontiers but somewhere along the process of making
it, it evolved into something greater then the project we had started with. We had a fantastic flow in the song writing and when Jeff recorded his lead vocals it all fell into place.”
Jeff: “I’m very excited about the WET project. What a brilliant idea of Frontiers to put the three of us together. I think the album turned even better than we hoped for and I can’t wait to see the reactions from the melodic rock fans. I’m really proud of this record and I think a lot of people is gonna ‘wet’ there pants once they get to hear it!
I knew this was the kind of album a LOT of people wanted me to make so I am quite hopeful it will be amongst one of the biggest things I have done in my career thus far. I have never heard or felt such a buzz for something I am a part of and I couldn’t be more proud with my ‘brothers in arms’, Erik & Robert, for helping create what shall hopefully become a Classic masterpiece.”
And the future seems bright for the trio.
Jeff: “I believe if it does well enough, we would be silly not to take it on the road. Possibly start with a few select dates to get our feet ‘wet’ then see what time & schedules permit. The thing to remember here is we are of 3 separate & completely different careers that are all currently in motion but in my heart of hearts, I feel this is the beginning of something that will be around for a while, not just a one off!”
Erik: “I would love to go out and play live with this band and I would surely love to make a follow up album for it.”
Robert: “If the album does well enough and if our different schedules allow it, I would love to go and play live with WET. And I have pretty good feeling this is not the first and last record from W.E.T.!”
The word masterpiece is tossed around on various occasions, but in this instance there is no doubt what they guys have achieved.
First reaction on the album includes: “W.E.T. might just be the perfect balance of power and melody, emotion and attitude. A dream line-up that really delivers their very best. This is a stunner!” – Andrew McNeice (melodicrock.com)
The Self Titled debut W.E.T. album features the following tracks:
CD - Invincible, One Love, Brothers In Arms, Comes Down Like Rain, Running From The Heartache, I’ll Be There, Damage Is Done, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, One Day At A Time, Just Go, My Everything, If I Fall.
DVD - Video Clips for: One Love, Comes Down Like Rain and Brothers In Arms and a 15 minute EPK. Click on the image below to enjoy the “One Love” videoclip on Youtube and an album trailer.
0 Jamilya – Over The Edge (1997)
One of the better melodic rock CD’s that you never heard is Jamilya’s Over the Edge.
Jamilya is a five piece band from Chicago, Illinois that features the awesome six string talent of Lou Jamilya, and the sensational vocals of Kevin Willison.
The opening song, “Run For Your Life” is a melodic monster. Kevin Willison’s voice resembles Michael Sweet of Stryper, but Jamilya’s keyboard based hard rock is far different from anything Stryper has ever done.
“Rock To the Edge” is another cool rocker with some catchy lyrics and some George Lynch like guitar parts from Lou Jamilya.
If “I Will Remember You” would have been released in the late 80’s or early 90’s, Jamilya would have had a massive hit on their hands. This song
sounds like it fell out of Warrant’s song book. This is the type of arena song that would have thousands of people breaking out their lighters and cell phones in unison. This is an awesome tune, and one of the highlights on Over the Edge.
Over the Edge is a terrific melodic rock CD with great vocals and musicianship to match. There really isn’t a bad song in the bunch. It is a shame that Jamilya didn’t get the attention they deserved with this disc.
It is never to late to explore a lost classic. The CD is hard to find, but you can purchase the mp3 downloads of “Over the Edge” here. You can find more information on Jamilya on myspace at this link.

1 MIKE TRAMP TO RELEASE “THE ROCK N ROLL CIRCUZ” ALBUM OCT 2009

“Mike Tramp & The Rock ‘N’ Roll Circuz”, the new album to be released October 5th 2009, promises to be the most profound musical statement by Mike Tramp yet. “With this album no stone has been left unturned, no compromises made, this album is complete in every way”. The stories of which can be heard throughout his 5 studio solo albums, his latest no exception. “This album is even deeper and more personal than ever before. In October 2009, Tramp will be embarking on his first big tour of Denmark ever and early next year will venture out into the world, step by step.As someone who has gambled his life and given his heart and soul to rock n roll, Tramp is philosophical when pondering what rock n roll has given him in return. “To me it is my lifestyle, a pair of glasses that I view life through, a pair of boots that take me to where I want to go and a religion that allows you freedom to follow your heart and do what you want.”Mike Tramp – “a life of no limits, rules or compromises”.

0 Tommy Lee to Choose Best Corporate Band in America
Rocker Joins Panel of Judges for Ninth Annual FORTUNE Battle of the Corporate Bands
Legendary drummer Tommy Lee of rock band Motley Crue is one of three judges chosen to pick the best corporate rock band in the upcoming FORTUNE Battle of the Corporate Bands presented by NAMM, the trade association of the international music products industry, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Lee will be joined by noted musician and author Jeff Carlisi and Making Music magazine editor-in-chief Antoinette Follett as judges at the ninth annual event, taking place on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
The first music competition of its kind, the battle provides amateur, company-sponsored bands with the opportunity to step out of the conference room and celebrate their passion for making music. Eight qualifying bands from across the U.S. will take the stage at the Rock Hall, with the chance to earn the title of best corporate band. The event is also generously supported by Gibson Guitar.
“I’m happy to be part of this year’s FORTUNE Battle of the Corporate Bands,” said Lee. “An amazing amount of talent exists across the country, and for people to come together in the workplace and express themselves in a different way proves what kind of power music has in elevating morale and bringing people together.”
In addition to Lee’s role as a judge at this year’s Battle of the Bands, the Tommy Lee-fronted ensemble “Methods of Mayhem” is inviting fans to make music of their own and help record their upcoming album. Starting on October 5, isolated instrument tracks, or stems, will be posted on the Web site, https://thepublicrecord.com. Fans can download the stems and add their own musical ideas, including original recordings, song mixes, arrangements and more.
About the Judges
At the age of 17, drummer Tommy Lee teamed up to form Grammy-nominated hard rock band Motley Crue, releasing their debut album Too Fast for Love in November 1981. By the ’80s, Motley Crue had released a string of albums, including Shout at the Devil (1983) and Theatre Of Pain (1985). However, it was Girls, Girls, Girls (1987) and 1989’s Dr. Feelgood that catapulted the band into the mainstream. After nearly two decades of success, Lee took time away from the Crue to record a solo record and tour with his own band, Methods of Mayhem and with DJ Aero under the moniker of “Electric Mayhem.” In 2004, Lee reunited with Motley Crue and their 2005-2006 “Carnival of Sins” tour, which included more than 100 arena dates in the U.S. alone, was ranked by Pollstar among the top five grossing tours of 2005. Motley Crue has since been on the road, recently concluding their “Crue Fest 2″ tour this month. Lee is currently working on a new album with “Methods of Mayhem.” He is also a published author of The New York Times best-seller “Tommyland” and a co-star on Battleground Earth, Discovery Planet’s green environment-themed reality series.
Jeff Carlisi was one of the founding members of the rock band .38 Special and wrote or co-wrote many of their biggest hits, including “Second Chance,” “Caught Up In You” and “Hold On Loosely.” The band sold more than 14 million records and enjoyed worldwide popular and critical acclaim. Carlisi left the band in 1997, and is now one of the co-founders of Camp Jam, where he trains young musicians, and Camp Jam, Inc., conducting team-building workshops for corporations. Earlier this year, Carlisi released his book “Jam! Amp Your Team, Rock Your Business!,” which shares a musician’s insight into navigating the music industry.
Antoinette Follett is the managing editor of the AFM’s International Musician magazine and editor-in-chief of Making Music, a lifestyle magazine for amateur musicians. To serve the growing community of musicians, Follett focuses on features and articles geared toward players from the intrepid beginner to the dedicated, experienced hobbyist–stories about amateur musicians, groups, and ensembles; learning tips and techniques; buying guides and gear reviews; book and DVD resources, and more. An expert in the field of the benefits of making music, at Bentley-Hall, Inc., where she is president, she has overseen marketing and communications projects for a number of companies in the music industry including Yamaha, Roland, and the American Federation of Musicians. Her expertise in marketing and music has led Bentley-Hall to work with the Percussion Marketing Council, the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts, and RADD, the entertainment industry’s voice for road safety. Follett also presents marketing seminars for the AFM and NAMM.
About the Finalists
From 34 entries, 18 amateur bands from across the country were chosen to participate in one of two semi-final regional competitions, and in the end, eight finalists were selected to vie for the top spot. The finalists of the Ninth Annual FORTUNE Battle of the Corporate Bands include: “Aeroroot” from Frontier Natural Products (Norway, Iowa), “Manage This” from Symantec (Lindon, Utah), “Roland’s Stones” from Chevron (Pascagoula, Miss.), “The S.A.P.’s” from Johnson & Johnson (Morristown, N.J.), “Slump” from Oceanside Glasstile (Carlsbad, Calif.), “The Mighty Electric St. Jude Band” from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (Memphis, Tenn.), “Strat 5″ from Healthways (Franklin, Tenn.) and “The Weasels” from The Sunflower Group (Overland, Kan.).

0 Multi-Platinum Rock Band Breaking Benjamin Set to Release Fourth CD ‘Dear Agony’ on September 29th

First single ‘I Will Not Bow’ Top 5 at rock radio; Featured in upcoming Bruce Willis film ‘Surrogates’
Multi-platinum rock band BREAKING BENJAMIN (Ben Burnley, vocals/guitar; Aaron Fink, guitar; Mark James, bass; Chad Szeliga, drums) have completed their fourth album for Hollywood Records with long-time producer David Bendeth. The album, titled Dear Agony, is set to release on September 29th.
The first single, “I Will Not Bow,” is Top 5 at rock radio, has scanned over 87,000 digital units in only 2 weeks and will be the featured song in Bruce Willis’ upcoming action thriller, Surrogates, due out September 25th. The video which has garnered over 500,000 views was shot at the World Trade Center in NYC by director Rich Lee (Evanescence, All American Rejects) and features band performance as well as clips from the movie.
Dear Agony marks the third straight Breaking Benjamin/David Bendeth collaboration. The first two–2004’s We Are Not Alone and 2006’s Phobia–yielded spectacular results with each being certified Platinum. It also marks the first time that Burnley, the band’s sole lyricist, collaborated with Jasen Rauch, guitarist of the Grammy-nominated band RED.

Phobia debuted at No. 2 on Billboard‘s Top 200, hit No. 1 on the Rock Album Chart and was one of the top 50 selling rock albums of 2006. It featured one No. 1 and two Top Five rock radio hits (“Breath,” “Diary of Jane,” and “Until The End”) and sold 2.8 million units (albums and digital tracks).
The band, who have been off the road for the past two years, plan to announce their highly-anticipated Fall tour plans shortly.
