In preparation for her latest solo release, “Wicked Wonderland,” Lita Ford will make a guest appearance on this week’s edition of Hard Rock Nights (September 18-24). The new album is set to hit stores in October.
In addition to her new record, which Lita describes as “marriage therapy,” she will chat about the new comic book “The Gillettes: Family Business,” in which her family battles zombies, and the video game “Brütal Legend” starring Jack Black.
Hard Rock Nights is a weekly syndicated radio program heard on a number of rock and metal stations. See http://hardrocknights.wordpress.com/affiliates for a complete list.
KEEL has signed with FRONTIERS RECORDS, one of the elite labels in Hard Rock and Melodic Rock, and will release two albums simultaneously in January 2010.
The band announced their reunion last November, and enjoyed appearances at major summer festivals such as Rocklahoma, South Texas Rock Festival, the Mid West Rock Fest, and the M3 Rock Festival in Maryland, in addition to sold-out headline shows in Hollywood and Phoenix. The energy and excitement of these tour dates spawned a surge of creative activity, resulting in an album’s worth of new material. This album, entitled “Streets Of Rock & Roll,” is the first new KEEL recording in twenty years.
KEEL promises this new release will continue in the tradition of their previous efforts – fist-pumping crowd-pleasing hard rock anthems fueled by screaming vocals and driven by powerful guitars. The project is being produced by Pat Regan (Deep Purple, KISS, Warrant etc.) and will feature guest appearances by Jaime St. James (Black N Blue) and Paul Shortino (Rough Cutt, Quiet Riot) who is also producing and recording Ron’s lead vocal sessions.
Frontiers Records will also release “The Right To Rock: 25th Anniversary Edition,” exactly 25 years after this classic album first hit the streets. This official reissue will be digitally remastered and will feature a brand new recorded version of the title track, which is even louder and heavier than the original. “The Right To Rock (Reunion Version)” features an all-star vocal chorus, and the band is also inviting fans everywhere to sing on the track: you can download a sample chorus on KEEL’s MySpace, add your voice to the mix, send the band an MP3, and these will be mixed in to the actual recording of this timeless classic. For details, visit the KEEL web site www.keelband.com and the KEEL MySpace www.myspace.com/keelband.
The band wishes to express their thanks to everyone at Frontiers Records for their support and belief in KEEL. Frontiers is firmly established at the forefront in this genre, having successfully released projects from Journey, Styx, Tesla, Dokken, Winger and many more, and KEEL is proud to be a part of their catalog and roster.

It seems like only yesterday that Ace Frehley released his last solo album, “Trouble Walkin’”. OK, maybe in Jupiter days. It’s actually about 7,300 earth years, almost twenty years ago exactly since Ace graced us with some new tunes. Was it worth the wait? Depends on what standards are employed obviously, but “Anomaly” is a really cool listen with great guitar work including a sprinkling of instrumentals and an obligatory cover, which he likes to include in his releases. This time it’s a spirited interpretation of the Sweet classic “Fox On The Run”. Sweet, indeed. Meatloaf’s daughter, Pearl Aday adds her considerable talents to the festivities. Frehley offers several songs rhyming with his first name. You’ve got your Animal Planet Ace with “Space Bear”, the pick him out of a crowd Ace with “Too Many Faces” and the celestial Ace with the album’s first single, “Outer Space”. Also included on the CD is the third piece of a trilogy started long ago beginning with “Fractured Mirror”, followed by “Fractured Too” and now completed with “Fractured Quantum”, the epic final track on “Anomoly”.
Good news for long time Frehley followers, most will not only cite his album “Ace Frehley” as their favorite of the four albums released simultaneously by each member of Kiss back in 1978, but as their favorite of his solo albums and of those with Frehley’s Comet as well. It’s a welcome development because before recording “Anomaly” he listened to that eponymous album as inspiration. You can hear it too, certainly nothing sounds the same, but the driving spirit is absolutely unmistakable. The vibe, the attitude and the musicianship are all on regal display. No tour plans have been revealed at this point, but you can follow the information stream at AceFrehley.com While Frehley has no plans to serve leftovers to any of us, there were several songs that didn’t properly fit the mood of “Anomaly” and will serve as the springboard for a follow up album, but he promises it won’t be another seventy-three hundred day wait this time around. Frehley has plenty to celebrate these days, a new album, three years away from the life-force draining effect of alcohol and drugs and his first foray into the world of Pro-Tools, all landmark events for the storied guitarist. How many players today wanted to be like Ace many years ago? Rhetorical for sure, but perhaps it’s the beginning of another wave of players who want to emulate the stylish guitar slinger.
Bring it on. And we will as we welcome Ace Frehley to Rockline for his first ever visit. How can that be? Dunno, but we promise to make up for lost time as Ace Frehley joins us for our next ROCKLINE!
Super 400 is a power trio from Troy, New York. I must admit that I only recently discovered this band, although, “Sweet Fist” is the band’s 4th studio effort.
This first thing I noticed was the band’s kick ass 70’s rock vibe. I immediately picked up on Led Zeppelin and some Hendrix as influences to this band.
The opening track, “Needle Down” is an absolute scorcher. The heavy riffs immediately capture my attention, and had me anticipating what would come next. This is the type of tune that you need to crank up loud to fully appreciate.
The riffs on “FFMN” (Fear Forget My Name) are ridiculously catchy. Part of the lyrics seem disjointed from the killer groove this song has. It is a shame, as this song has some good ideas, but I think it tries to do too much.
Lori Friday takes over the lead vocals on the song “Flashlight”. Her vocals give the music more of alternative edge, but this song could also turn out to be a radio hit.
Out of nowhere comes this southern, bluesy, swamp rock tune “Sand Hill”. This song takes a few listens to completely appreciate, but was a nice surprise on “Sweet Fist”.
“Thorn Tree” is another highlight on “Sweet Fist”. This heavy Zeppelin-esque rocker rocks hard. Kenny Hohman really cuts loose on the vocals on this tune.
Super 400 covers the Carole King classic, “I Feel The Earth Move” and does an amazing job with it. This version has a much harder edge, but Kenny Hohman gives the vocals proper treatment. The Hendrix inspired guitar work in this version, makes me prefer Super 400’s over the original. Well done!
I like Super 400’s stripped back approach on this disc. You won’t find flashy guitar noodling or a bunch of high speed double bass drumming. What you will find is a very talented three piece band that can dish out some solid classic rock. If you enjoy the early to mid seventies era of rock, you ought to check out Super 400’s “Sweet Fist”. I think you will enjoy it.
You can get a free download of the song “Flashlight” at this link.

Two-CD Caught in a Mosh: BBC Live in Concert, with Two 1987 U.K. Concerts, Also Makes U.S. Debut
“Unmistakable riffs, mindf**k drumming and classic songs–they’ve opened too many doors to mention. Badasses.”–Dave Grohl, Foo Fighters
“In the pantheon of modern metal, Anthrax are certainly a cornerstone, and if one listens, one can hear their influence on any number of up-and-coming bands of the new generation.” — Kirk Hammett, Metallica
“Anthrax rules!…If you don’t own Among The Living, you’re f**king stupid.” –Comedian/metalhead Brian Posehn
Pioneering metal band Anthrax, one of the genre’s most influential, innovative and respected groups, melded the speed and fury of hardcore punk with the guitars and vocals of heavy metal to help create speed and thrash metal. Now what many consider the group’s greatest album, 1987’s Among The Living, has been expanded with bonus tracks and a concert DVD, and digitally remastered for the first time, for the CD+DVD package Among The Living (Deluxe Edition) (Island/Megaforce/UMe), released November 10, 2009.
Issued simultaneously will be the two-CD set Caught In A Mosh: BBC Live In Concert (Island/Megaforce/UMe), which brings together 1987 U.K. concerts from the Among The Living world tour recorded at Hammersmith Odeon and the Donnington Festival. Making its U.S. debut, Caught In A Mosh: BBC Live In Concert was originally released internationally in 2007.
Among The Living, originally produced by Eddie Kramer and Anthrax, was the band’s third full-length album and featured the lineup of singer Joe Belladonna, lead guitarist Dan Spitz, rhythm guitarist Scott Ian, bassist Frank Bello and drummer Charlie Benante. Building on an underground following with signature tracks such as “I Am The Law,” “Caught In A Mosh” and “Indians,” the album catapulted Anthrax to widespread recognition and earned the group’s first gold award. Among The Living also marked the height of the band’s use of horror and comic book inspirations, with the title track and album cover image based on the Stephen King novel The Stand, “A Skeleton In The Closet” on King’s novella Apt Pupil, and “I Am The Law” on the comic book character Judge Dredd.
Added for the new Among The Living (Deluxe Edition) version are previously unreleased studio outtakes of “Indians,” “One World” and “Imitation Of Life,” an instrumental of “I’m The Man,” a live-in-Dallas 1987 version of “I Am The Law,” and “Bud E Luv Bomb And Satan’s Lounge Band,” originally released as the “I Am The Law” b-side. The bonus DVD is the live-in-London concert film “OIDIVNIKUFESIN (N.F.V.),” which went gold when issued on video in 1987. “This record was done at a time when life was moving so fast for us, and I think the music reflects that pace. I really enjoyed going back into 1986/87 and found some great stuff in my vault I had forgot about. I think Anthrax fans will enjoy this remastered collection; the high end and low end is back as how it was intended to sound. Thrash metal is alive and well in Among The Living,” says drummer Charlie Benante.
Anthrax would go on to score a platinum EP and four more gold albums as well as break new ground with a fusion of rock and rap. The classic lineup reunited to tour from 2005-2006, after changes a dozen-plus years earlier. On its solo dates, Anthrax played one album in its entirety–Among The Living.

It has been far too long since we have had a new Ace Frehley solo disc. It has been twenty years since Ace’s last release, Trouble Walkin’. I had high hopes after for this CD after hearing “Outer Space” for the first time. I heard it, on the Hard Rock Nights radio show, a few weeks ago and couldn’t wait to hear more.
Luckily, the good tunes don’t end with “Outer Space”.
“Foxy & Free” reminds me a lot of the Ace Frehley hit, “Rock Soldiers”. You gotta love the cowbell!
Ace Frehley has been known to do a cover or two, and on Anomaly, Ace takes on the Sweet classic, “Fox On The Run”. The funny thing is, I always thought the original tune sounded like a KISS song. Either way, Frehley knocks it out of the park. I love this version.
“Pain In The Neck” could be another Frehley classic. This song has been growing on me with every listen.
“Genghis Khan” left me scratching my head. This tune shows off Frehley’s six string talent, and in that regard, it is pretty cool. The inane lyrics about Genghis Khan seems like they were nothing more than an afterthought. It sounds like they were added after the music was written. This would have been better off as an instrumental in my opinion.
“Too Many Faces” might be a little too similar to “Pain in the Neck” but I like it anyway.
“It’s A Great Life” is a catchy tune, although it is a little different from what I would expect from Frehley. This song has an almost pop/rock style to it.
“Fractured Quantum” is an instrumental song that carries on from Frehley’s previously released Fractured tunes. This is a solid tune, and a decent album closer. (If you buy the iTunes version, you will get a bonus track “The Return of Space Bear”).
Overall, I think Ace Frehley picked up where he left off with Trouble Walkin’. I have been enjoying this disc quite a bit. Anomaly is another solid effort for the Space Ace.

This truly is the ultimate package, not only for PINK CREAM 69 fans: “Past & Present” (with a total running time of more than 4,5 hours) and “Live in Karlsruhe” includes everything a rock fan needs to have from PINK CREAM 69. “The two products” says drummer Kosta Zafiriou “give a great overview of the band´s activities in 20 years: the live in Japan video from 1992, this year´s concert in Karlsruhe, lots of Festival footage as additional bonus, all video clips the band ever did and an hour interview and backstage footage with the band members reflecting the band´s history – you can´t get more Pink Cream 69 than on these DVD´s! Those of you who received your Sirius XM Radio bill this month may have noticed a new increase in your bill.
Surprise! You are now paying U.S. Royalty fees on the music you have been subscribing to listen to.
The fee is $1.98 a month per the base $12.95 subscriptions and $.97 for base plans that are eligible for a second radio discount. Your actual fee may vary depending upon the Package and Plan term you choose.
The FCC decision approving the merger between SIRIUS and XM permits the companies beginning July 29, 2009 to pass through to subscribers any increases in music royalties since March 20, 2007, the day the companies first asked the FCC to approve the merger. The U.S. Music Royalty Fee implements this FCC decision.
Every time the RIAA bitches they aren’t getting enough money, Sirius XM Subscribers are going to take it in the rear, and can expect an increase in their bill. Sirius XM can’t afford to pay the royalties out of your monthly subscription fees. They will pass along those increases to you. Oh happy day!
On one hand, at least the artists will get paid for their music. Hopefully the lesser known bands that I get to hear on channels like Hair Nation and The Boneyard will see some of this money. Somehow I doubt it though.
One of the reasons that I have subscribed to XM is to listen to music that the crap FM stations refuse to play. Sadly, XM is quickly going to become too costly an option for my music listening habits. I guess its time to buy that 160 GB Ipod for my daily commute.

ZOMBIE CURRENTLY GEARING UP FOR HIS RECORD RELEASE
“HELLBILLY DELUXE 2 on Geffen Records”
The Hellbilly Returns! The Master of monster mayhem Rob Zombie will be destroying a city near you beginning this October 29th on The HELLBILLY DELUXE 2 TOUR. Not since 1998’s super smash triple platinum HELLBILLY DELUXE has Zombie hit the road under that moniker. So get ready to scream!
This will be Zombie’s first headline tour since 2007 and will have other ghoulish delights in tow including openers Nekromantix and Captain Clegg & the Night Creatures last seen rocking Haddonfield and Michael Myers in Zombie’s new film HALLOWEEN 2. The tour will usher in Zombie’s forthcoming album HELLBILLY DELUXE 2 – Noble Jackals, Penny Dreadfuls and the Systematic Dehumanization of Cool (Geffen), a companion to 1998 original.
The tour will blasts off with Phoenix, AZ on October 29th, Las Vegas, NV on the 30th, and a very special Halloween event on the 31st in Hollywood, CA hosted by Uncle Seymour Coffins also seen recently in HALLOWEEN 2. Zombie will be accompanied by his longtime band mates -guitarist John 5, bassist Piggy D, and drummer Tommy Clufetos.
The HELLBILLY DELUXE 2 TOUR will mark Zombie’s return to the road after much box office success as the writer and director of HALLOWEEN 2 (Dimension). His R-rated, animated feature, THE HAUNTED WORLD OF EL SUPERBEASTO, will also be available everywhere on DVD and Blu-ray September 22nd.
“I am bouncing off the walls like a mental patient”, says Zombie “That tells me it’s time to take it to the stage and let the demons loose.”
Selling over fifteen million albums worldwide, Zombie is one of Geffen Record’s top selling and the longest running artists on the label. He has written and directed five feature length films, directed dozens of high profile music videos, contributed recordings to multiple soundtracks, and authored several comic books. HALLOWEEN 2 (2009) took hold of the box office recently, following-up his record breaking blockbuster re-imagining of HALLOWEEN in 2007. In 2005, Zombie assaulted the film world with the critically-acclaimed THE DEVIL’S REJECTS (Lionsgate), the follow-up to his already cult classic HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES (Lionsgate 2004).

One word best describes Megadeth’s twelfth CD, Endgame. Disappointing! I had high hopes for this CD, but this long time Megadeth fan is not impressed. With the awesome dualing riffs of Mustaine and Broderick, this band may have the best guitar tandem since Marty Friedman was in the band. Nonstop noodling and shredding does not make a good album though. There has to be solid songwriting. This disc is lacking the melodies and lyrics that made Megadeth one of the biggest and best thrash metal bands of all time.
I enjoyed the band’s previous effort, United Abominations. Personally, I don’t think Endgame is anywhere near as good as that disc. Musically, I think Endgame is superior to UA, but lyrically, I believe United Abominations is the stronger of the two.
With Megadeth’s new axeman Chris Broderick, Dave Mustaine has found the new sparring partner he has been looking for. Broderick’s playing is as intense, as it is fast. I am quite impressed with his playing on this disc.
Endgame opens up with a brief instrumental track, “Dialectic Chaos”. The trade off between Mustaine and Broderick is brilliant. Although, I would typically think that opening an album with an instrumental would be an unwise decision, this tune sets the stage for Endgame perfectly. The songs ending, and “This Day We Fight!” beginning is seamless, and it doesn’t take long for Mustaine’s trademark snarl to find its way into the lyrics. I don’t think I have heard a song played with such fury and intensity since “Rust in Peace”.
The pace slows down somewhat for “44 Minutes”. Dave Mustaine rattles off lyrics about a bank robbery gone awry. There is no discernable chorus, but it is a cool song nonetheless.
“1,320′” opens up with the high octane sounds of a funny car. As you probably guessed, this song is about drag racing. The guitar noodling on this track is insane! Mustaine and Broderick trade off leads that might be as fast as the cars this song represents. If the NHRA needs a theme song, they don’t need to look any further.
The bass groove by James Lomenzo on “Bite the Hand” is extremely cool. There are some cool lyrics in this tune, but I can’t seem to get into the chorus, “When its dog eat dog, you are what you eat”. Ok, Dave! The music overall is pretty good, but this isn’t one of my favorite tunes on this album.
“The Hardest Part of Letting Go….Sealed With A Kiss” starts off in a ballad like form, before blasting off in the middle, and slowing back down towards the end. Out of all of the songs on Endgame, this one probably has the most radio potential.
I hope this CD isn’t Megadeth’s Endgame. It is a good thrash album, even if I don’t think it is one of Megadeth’s best. This CD is loaded with guitar solos, which I absolutely love, I just wish there were more melodies and catchy lyrics on this disc. This CD may grow on me more, but the songs just aren’t very memorable after a few listens. The end result is ultimately disappointing.
