Hardcore Superstar has released their follow up to 2007’s excellent Dreamin’ In A Casket. Their last album was so full of great, hard rocking sleazy fun, that I was anxiously awaiting the release of this disc. How does it stack up? Read on.
The album starts off with an instrumental cut, “This Worm’s For Ennio” that sounds like it would be better served in a spaghetti western movie, than a sleaze rock album. It is an odd start to Beg For It, but it doesn’t really detract from the album.
The new two songs “Beg For It”, and “Into Debauchery” deliver that one-two punch to get this album started. Both are good tunes, but I would probably consider these amongst Hardcore Superstar’s best. I didn’t think so initially, but the songs have grown on me quite a bit after a few more listens.
I can’t put my finger on it, but once “Shades of Grey” starts up, the songs on Beg For It start falling into the pattern where the songs sound far too much the same. I would have liked a little more variety between the songs.
Luckily, “Hope For A Normal Life” is exactly what I was looking for. This song changes the pace up with an acoustic based, mid tempo number. I didn’t care for the keyboard parts on this song. I didn’t think they were needed, but this is a still a solid tune.
“Remove My Brain” starts off with this really cool sleazy groove which gave me high hopes, unfortunately, the intro is better than the rest of the song. The chorus falls into the same old scream along trap, that sounds like far too many other Hardcore Superstar songs.
“Spit It Out” is far better. This is a good song with a cool groove, that has a couple of guitar parts that sounds like it borrows from Motley Crue’s Nona. You can probably guess the chorus on this one, but it a good song nonetheless.
Overall, it took me a few listens to get into this disc. The music is great, but I just couldn’t get into the songs as much as the last disc. It is a good CD, and die hard Hardcore Superstar fans will probably enjoy it. If you are checking Hardcore Superstar for the first time, check out Dreamin’ In A Casket first. It is the better album of the two.

It looked like it could be the end for Finnish rockers, Thunderstone, when the band parted ways with their singer Pasi Rantanen, and keyboarist Kari Tornack. The band has forged ahead with a new lineup in 2009, and in a few short days, their new CD, Dirt Metal will be available. The band now has Rick Altzi from At Vance on vocals, and Jukka Karinen from Status Minor taking over on keys. Judging from the video “I Almighty” below, Thunderstone has another awesome album on the way. Check out the clip below!

He arrived for the red carpet dressed head-to-toe in designs from his new line and performed songs from his solo album, ‘”Happy” in Galoshes,’ as well as a couple Stone Temple Pilots classics for a packed crowd at Wasted Space.

About Scott Weiland
Scott Weiland has become one of the music world’s most highly respected and prolific artists. As the front man for Stone Temple Pilots, Weiland has remained a dominant force in rock music since the group’s inception in 1992. STP’s 2008 reunion tour re-cemented the group’s standing as one of the most successful rock groups of all time, and their impressively extensive and top-selling catalog, including five studio albums and countless hits, has sold more than 35 million albums worldwide. In 2004, Weiland became front man for rock super-group Velvet Revolver and lead the group to achieve both critical and commercial success.
Weiland most recently released his second solo album, ‘”Happy” in Galoshes’ on November 25, 2008 via the artist’s label Softdrive Records and distributed by New West Records/RED/SONY. The release was produced by Scott Weiland and Doug Grean (Velvet Revolver, Sheryl Crow, Crystal Method) with select tracks recorded by Steve Albini. The album also features several guest appearances including Adrian Young, Tony Kanal and Tom Dumont of No Doubt and Gary Beers from INXS. The release comes on the heels of Stone Temple Pilots highly successful reunion tour. Scott Weiland kicked off the release with a slew of high-profile TV appearances on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The American Music Awards. www.scottweiland.com

After ten months of intensive touring, the band are back in the studio writing their new album. Recording is due to begin at the end of September after their headline show at Metalfest, UK.
The double live album and live DVD ‘The Night That Will Not Die’, recorded at Z7 in Switzerland, have been released on Blaze Bayley Recordings; the concert filmed by director Kris McManus and all audio mixed and mastered by producer Jase Edwards.
On 25 September the book ‘At The End Of The Day’ will be released. This follows the story of ‘Blaze’ Bayley Cooke from Wolfsbane to Iron Maiden to BLAZE and, ultimately, to the current self-titled Blaze Bayley band. However, this book is not solely about Blaze; rather it traces the history of all the band members, back to their roots in New Zealand, Colombia and…Bristol. ‘At The End Of The Day’ is available to pre-order from the band’s website.
Montreal’s PRIESTESS will release its sophomore album, “Prior To The Fire”, in Canada on October 20 via Indica Records/Red Ink. The punishing eleven-song effort was recorded in Los Angeles in the fall of 2008 and produced by Dave Schiffman (SYSTEM OF A DOWN, NINE INCH NAILS, MARS VOLTA).
Since its formation back in 2003, PRIESTESS has become one of Canada’s most successful hard rock bands, and an international force to be reckoned with. The band released its debut, “Hello Master”, back in 2006 and since then has spent most of its time on the road touring with heavy hitters like MEGADETH, MOTÖRHEAD, MASTADON, GWAR and participating in several high-profile events such as Heavy MTL with IRON MAIDEN, Festival d’Èté de Québec with STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, and Monsters of Rock/Ozzfest with OZZY OSBOURNE, just to name a few.
PRIESTESS’ profile skyrocketed when the band’s song “Lay Down” was featured in the smash-hit videogame Guitar Hero, earning them a legion of new fans. Their music has also been heard in the HBO series “Entourage”, “Friday Night Lights” and it was recently announced that their new song “Raccoon Eyes” will be on the upcoming EA Sports’ NHL 10. Their two singles, “Lay Down” and “Talk To Her”, also became top 15 hits at rock radio across Canada.
“Prior To The Fire” track listing:
02. Raccoon Eyes
03. The Firebird
04. Murphy’s Law
05. The Gem
06. Communicating Via-Eyes
08. It Baffles The Mind

AC/DC, Rose Tattoo, Airbourne, the Angels, the Poor all play Australian Pub Rock at it’s best, and now you can add Brisbane’s the Driving Conditions to that list. Any fan of the above mentioned bands or Rhino Bucket should definitely check this four-piece out immediately if not sooner!! Made up of Woody (Lead Vocals), Nathan Ward (Guitars), Sol Freeman (Bass), and Dave “Stapleguns” Stapleton on drums have been together since 2005 when brothers in law Nathan and Sol formed Nathan Ward’s Driving Conditions and released their debut album a rootsy flavored “NWDC”, but wanting to add more of a rock edge the guys brought in Woody on vocals followed by drummer Dave Stapleton to complete the line up and rechristened themselves the Driving Conditions.
2007 saw the release of the band’s debut EP simply titled, Rock n Roll. Recorded by legendary Geordie Leach “Rock n Roll” captured that authentic Aussie Rock sound reminiscent of bands like Rose Tattoo, ACDC and The Angels, which is very evident on such songs as “Rock n Roll”, “STR8 2 Hell”, “Black Hawk Down”, and “Better Off Dead”, all in your face straight up rockers that will get you going like a swift kick in the ass. The guys have toured Australia with big name Australian acts as Jimmy Barnes, The Angels, The Radiators, Dallas Crane and Rose Tattoo but now they are getting ready to set their sites on the U.S. and Europe with the upcoming release of “Full Throttle” in Sept.
A couple of days ago, I stumbled upon the “Who’s The One” video from Winger. I wasn’t aware that any videos were released for the Pull album. This one dates back to 1993, but is worth checking out. It is a good song, and cool video to boot!

Frontiers Records is honoured to announce the release of MR. BIG’s reunion Live CD and DVD entitled ”Back to Budokan” on October 16th in Europe and October 27th in the USA.
Mr. Big is a Rock super-group that formed in 1988. The band is a quartet composed of Eric Martin (vocals), Paul Gilbert (guitar), Billy Sheehan (bass), and Pat Torpey (drums). The band is noted especially for their “shred guitar” musicianship, intense live performances, and well-crafted songs.
Identified early on as a “musicians’ band”, Mr. Big produced numerous hit songs that ranged across a wide array of rock genres, be it ballad, heavy metal, or blues rock. Prior to the formation of the group, each of the members already had a reputation of being virtuosos as well as established song-writers/ composers. Their songs were often marked with Eric Martin’s strong lead vocals, four part band vocal harmonies, and a technical proficiency in all instruments. Their hits include “To Be With You” (Billboard Hot 100 number one single in 15 countries for weeks, in 1991), “Wild World“, “Green-Tinted Sixties Mind“, “Just Take My Heart“, other ballads, and a host of heavy metal songs that were played mostly during their live performances, such as “Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy“, “Addicted to that Rush“, “Colorado Bulldog” and “Take Cover“, among others.
Mr. Big’s large following and reputation remained strong for over more than two decades, despite the band being challenged by internal conflict and the changing trends in mainstream music. Over the years, through the different heights of the band’s career, the fan-base of the group has remained steadfast – even following the band’s break-up in 2002. Fans had continually asked for the band’s reunion.
In February 2009, as a result of that fan-demand and also following several coincidences over the past couple of years where various members jammed on-stage together, all of which gradually brought the group back together again and Eric, Pat, Paul and Billy finally announced their decision to reunite in late 2008. This announcement was marked with celebration and excitement amongst fans all over the world, especially in Japan. The band members themselves are very happy to be together again as bandmates, and more importantly, friends, and to perform once more for fans all over the world. Their first tour happened in Japan in June 2009 to completely sold out audiences and this double Live CD and DVD, filmed and recorded during their standing room only concert at the Budokan in Tokyo, June 20th 2009 celebrates the welcomed return of one of Rock’s giants!!
The band also recorded 2 new songs, the original “Next Time Around” and the Argent cover “Hold Your Head Up” which found their space on the album as a special bonus, along with an acoustic version of the timeless hit song “To Be With You”.

Kid Rock and Hank Williams, Jr. Bon Jovi and Sugarland. And now Sebastian Bach and Big and Rich. Rock’s going country, folks. Get ready for it.
Kid Rock and Hank I get. He’s always had a bit of a outlaw country, red neck attitude about him. Bon Jovi and Sugarland I didn’t really get, and I’m not sure many people did. Yes, they had a catchy, hit tune but here is my issue with it: Sugarland wasn’t featured in the version that was played on pop/rock stations, but they were featured on the version that was played on the country stations. What the hell is that all about?
After winning CMT’s Gone Country, Sebastian Bach is now setting his sights on taking over Music City like he did with Detroit Rock City. With his winnings from Gone Country, Bach made a video for his song Battle With the Bottle. Yes, it’s been out for a while, but I was reintroduced to it after reading Bach’s latest interview on Noisecreep. In all honesty…the song’s pretty good. I’m not a fan of all this new country bullshit; however, I am a fan of old school, outlaw country. According to the Noisecreep interview, Bach is a fan of the same kind of country I am, and I believe that’s what lead him to writing a pretty decent country song. It still has an air of modern day country to it, but I think that’s hard to avoid with his stellar and legendary voice.
My only gripe about Bach’s venture into country music (aside from the cowboy hat he wears in the video…really? You couldn’t find a better cowboy hat?), is his partnership with John Rich. It was only natural for him to work with Rich since he was the judge on Gone Country, but for me, Big and Rich and Cowboy Troy are part of what’s wrong with country music today; they make pop country, not real country. Save A Horse Ride A Cowboy is crap.
However, I will give John Rich credit for seeing the talent in Bach and taking him under his wing and helping him develop it. Without that help, I don’t think Bach would be able to navigate his way through the country roads as successfully. I’m not saying that Bach will be the next biggest country star, but he certainly has the potential to do very well. He’s made guest appearances at a couple of Big and Rich shows and may end up going full time on their Canadian tour starting in January.
How do you feel about rock stars making the cross over to country? Love it? Hate it? And do you think country stars could make the cross over to rock? I believe Garth Brooks tried with his alter ego, Chris Gaines, and that went terribly wrong.
For a song that is NOT terribly wrong, check out my blog for a FREE download from the band, Strung Out!

Firehouse guitarist speaks about his new solo release, ‘Deep South’
Guitarist Bill Leverty is the special guest on this week’s edition of Hard Rock Nights. Leverty speaks with JT about his new solo record, ‘Deep South,’ as well as his continued work with Firehouse and plans for a new Firehouse album.
With his guitar work as a member of Firehouse, Bill Leverty set the rock world ablaze with his fiery riffs and solos. But Leverty is no one-trick pony, as evidenced by his new solo release, ‘Deep South.’ Instead of focusing on the arena-ready rockers that his full-time band specializes in, ‘Deep South’ is steeped in tough blues and southern rock sounds – bringing to mind such legendary names as ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and the Allman Brothers.
In addition to supplying guitar, Leverty also handles lead vocal duties, as well as incorporating such uncommon instruments as a guitarelele and dobro into the mix. Featured is the album-opening “Trouble So Hard” (of which was made popular by Moby, who sampled some of the original in his hit single, “Natural Blues”), as well as the album’s first video, “Boll Weevil,” the sweet acoustic strum of “Walk Beside Me,” the muscular blues rock of “Samson and Delilah,” and a finger-snappin’ jazzy reading of the Ray Charles classic, “Hit the Road Jack” (which includes some impressive piano playing from Leverty, as well as vocals from his wife, Kris). Additionally, Leverty’s grandfather’s artwork adjourns the album’s front cover.
The interview can be heard on Hard Rock Nights September 4-10. Hard Rock Nights is a weekly syndicated radio program heard on a number of radio stations in the USA, Canada, and Europe (http://hardrocknights.wordpress.com/affiliates).
You can view the video for the first single from Bill Leverty’s ‘Deep South’ here:
Chicago rockers LOVEHAMMERS are featured on the cover of Illinois Entertainer’s September issue, in support of their new album HEAVY CROWN.
Led by singer Marty Casey, their powerful new disc was self produced with additional production by Marti Frederickson (Aerosmith, Buckcherry, Pink, Faith Hill, Papa Roach) and includes thought-provoking, hook-injected airwave contenders. HEAVY CROWN is the band’s fifth studio album and was released on their REEP Records through Fontana/INgrooves. The band’s renewed D.I.Y. attitude is the direct result of surviving the blessings and curses that came their way–including a stint on a major label–when Marty became a household name, earning the adoration of millions of television viewers as the runner-up on the reality series “Rockstar INXS.”
LOVEHAMMERS recently joined forces with Tea Stain Clothing for their “Music Fashion Project.” A portion of proceeds from the “Imperial“ t-shirt will go to Rock For Kids (www.rockforkids.org), a Chicago-based non-profit organization that provides free year-round music education for children in need. For more info on the “Music Fashion Project,” visit: www.themusicfashionproject.com.
The band is also set to return to Los Angeles for the first time since the release of Heavy Crown, for a headline show at The Key Club on September 25.
Ted Poley, THE voice of Danger Danger recently talked to Hard Rock Hideout about the upcoming release of Danger Danger’s new album “Revolve”, an album 5 years in the making and also his newest solo effort “Greatestits” which is a retrospective of his post Danger Danger career and a couple of glimpses of the future as well with the tracks “You Won’t See Me Cryin'” & “Tokyo Nights”
HRH: Ted, first of all thank you for taking the time to talk to us today.
Ted Poley: Thank You!
HRH: It’s been 5 years since it was first announced you had rejoined Danger Danger. How excited are you for all of D2s fans to hear the new songs on “Revolve”?
Ted Poley: Very Excited! In my opinion it’s the best D2 c.d. yet!
HRH: In my review of “Revolve” I described the sound as coming from an older more mature band with 20+ years of music business experience behind them. Would you agree with that description?
Ted Poley: Well, we are older but I am not more mature…I just released a Greatetits c.d. with boobs on the cover…(Laughing) The c.d. rocks that’s all I know.
HRH: When it was announced you were rejoining Danger Danger in 2004 it had been 11 years or so since you had played with Steve and Bruno. What was it like that first show back at the Sweden Rock Festival?
Ted Poley: I don’t remember, the photos look cool though. Actually it was my first day back and it was in front of the biggest crowd D2 has ever played for.
HRH: What was it like going back in the studio with them the first time to work on the new album? Did you feel nervous or more like you had never left?
Ted Poley: It was just another studio gig for me. It was great to work with Bruno because he is such a good producer and I knew he would make my vocals perfect, so I trusted him and just let him direct me in order to get exactly what he wanted. Some lines are first takes and some phrases he made me sing 20 times until I got just the right feel for him. I never argued with him once, I trusted him completely in the studio and it came out exactly as I expected, Killer.
HRH: I guess one question a lot of people would like to know is why did it take so long for “Revolve” to be recorded and released?
Ted Poley: No idea, that’s a question better left for my 2 bosses.
HRH: What songs are you looking forward to singing off of “Revolve”?
Ted Poley: I hope we play “That’s What I’m Talking About”, it would be a fantastic way to open the show. I also think that “F.U. Money” would be a great crowd sing along.
HRH: How many songs off the new album will you play live?
Ted Poley: Again, I don’t plan that stuff, it’s up to Westy & Bruno. I’m just the eye candy. (Laughing)
HRH: Speaking of playing live will D2 have a full fledged tour of the states or will it be more like pick and choose dates?
Ted Poley: It’s always pick and choose with us. When D2 is off the road (most of the time) I go out and tour the world as a solo artist. I have solo dates coming up in the USA, Brazil, UK, and Peru. Check my Myspace page for all tour dates, and please visit TedPoley.com to buy my new 2 c.d. set “Ted Poley – Greatestits”
HRH: Of course Danger Danger released 3 albums (Dawn, Four the Hard Way, and the Return of the Great Guildersleeves) with Paul Laine on vocals. It seems like most singers do not like playing songs off of albums they weren’t involved with. Are there any songs from those albums you would like to sing live or put your touch on?
Ted Poley: Not really, I really like “Grind” and “Dead, Drunk, and Wasted” and wouldn’t mind singing those songs. But I don’t really know anything from their other c.d.’s, I’ve never heard them I only have that one Guildersleeves c.d. But I do have a back catalog of over 40 D2 songs that I actually recorded so there’s plenty to choose from.
HRH: D2 played this year’s Rocklahoma in July what was the crowd’s reaction to the band?
Ted Poley: Well they looked pretty hot to me. It was way over 100 degrees and sunny. We didn’t play any of the new songs but the band and the crowd had a blast!
HRH: How did it feel playing with a heat index of 114 degrees that must’ve been hard?
Ted Poley: Hard, Yes! The hardest gig of my life, my mic was so hot that I had to keep switching hands! My new tattoos were fucking bleeding!! All of the ink from the session I had 4 days before Rocklahoma has to be redone, the colors faded and I sweated out all of the ink!! I had to keep pouring ice cold water over my head to keep from passing out, but it was fun. I would do it again, but hopefully not in the same time slot. It was the lethal 4:45 slot in direct sun with no shade and no place to hide!
HRH: What are the chances of the fans seeing a full reunion with Andy and Kasey coming back to play with D2?
Ted Poley: Nothing is impossible, but that is improbable. Personally I would love to see a reunion show with all of the original band members and film it for DVD release.
HRH: Since you returned to Danger Danger you have released 2 solo albums, a Poley/Rivera album, and a project called Pleasure Dome, and the newly released Greatestits Vol. 1 so you definitely haven’t been sitting around waiting. After everything involving “Revolve” slows down will we be seeing a new Poley/Rivera album or a new Pleasure Dome album?
Ted Poley: Pleasure Dome, great c.d. but nothing more is being planned, it was a one-off project. Poley/Rivera? Hell Yeah! We are already writing, upgrading the studio and getting ready to record the next one for a planned Fall 2010 release.
HRH: You covered a lot of ground musically with Greatestits Vol 1. What has the initial reaction to the album been?
Ted Poley: Completely amazing! Fans love it, it’s selling out fast though there are still a few available at TedPoley.com. It’s one of the most popular c.d.’s I’ve ever released, if you are reading this and you don’t have a copy yet. What are you waiting for? Come & get it!
HRH: One song that really caught my attention is “Wastin’ Your Luv” simply because it is the heaviest song I have ever heard you sing. What project was that initially recorded for?
Ted Poley: Many people have told me that! It’s my buddy Jack Frost. We did it for his really great solo c.d. He is one of the Gods of Metal and one of my best friends He has a ton of fans worldwide, please look him up and buy his stuff, that’s one of the reasons I made my “Greatestits” c.d. so fans could discover new things and go buy them.
HRH: Last year Andy Timmons and you played some shows together in Brazil for the first time in 15 years. What was it like playing with Andy again in a live setting?
Ted Poley: Well I find that playing in a live setting is better than playing in a dead setting. (laughing) No seriously, it was a total wet dream come true, Andy is a great guitar player and a great guy. I had fun with Andy at many Brazilian Churrascurias. We would eat Brazilian BBQ and drink red wine. Andy is quite the wine conneseur. I called him “Andy Winehouse”! He knows what he wants and “He knows how to drink it” (sung to the tune of Naughty Naughty)
HRH: He also co-wrote and played the solo “Yeah You Want It” on “Collateral Damage”. Is there any chance we could see the two of you working together on your next solo album or maybe a project together?
Ted Poley: I wish! If he ever needs me for anything I am on call! I was so happy when he played on that song, he wrote it along with Bob Held, it’s on my “Greatestits” c.d. available at TedPoley.com (laughing) seriously buy it now!
HRH: You were recently immortalized by C.C. Banana with the song “Ted Poley”, which is a parody of Kiss’s “Unholy”. For the people that may not know, what’s the story behind that song?
Ted Poley: One day, very early in our first tour with Kiss, I am backstage right after the D2 set and I am walking to my dressing room where my whole band was already waiting for me. I looked down the long typical white cinderblock arena backstage corridor towards my dressing room , and to my horror, there stood Paul Stanley, my ultimate hero, the Starchild, with his cool black Paul Stanley cowboy hat on, looking just as cool as fucking ice, walking in my direction. I knew at that point that it was inevitable. Our paths were going to cross. This was IT. My heart was pounding so hard I thought it was going to leap out of my mouth.
This was my big chance, the chance I had waited for ever since i carved my first KISS logo into that first math desk. “in 10 seconds” I thought to myself, ” I am going to speak to Paul Stanley… and then, just as Paul walked past me – nothing!
Not one word would come out of my mouth. In the blink of an eye, all of a sudden I am Helen Keller. My mind just went blank and i put my head down and just kept walking. I fucking BLEW my big moment to say hello to Paul Stanley. I had shamed myself and my bandmates, none of who had met KISS yet and who all probably saw the whole thing.
I made it to the other end of the corridor, completely crushed and disappointed in myself…when all of a sudden at full volume, the corridor boomed with the Voice.
Yes, it was unmistakable. It was THE VOICE OF PAUL STANLEY. MY HERO. MY IDOL, MY REASON FOR BEING IN THAT HALLWAY IN THE FIRST PLACE.
And to the tune of “UNHOLY” he sang…”TED POLAAAAAYYYYY”
I heard it. My band heard it. But for a second, I still couldn’t believe it, until Westy said real loud, “Yeah, he knows you!” and everyone laughed, including Paul.
At that moment, I turned around to see Paul smiling at me with his hand out to shake mine…Paul Fucking Stanley, the coolest guy on Planet Earth.
He knew I was too shy to say hello. He had been watching my show, and I still don’t know how or why but he knew MY name and he sang it. I finally got a chance to say hello to Paul and life was finally complete.
I never made a million dollars but I wouldn’t have traded that moment for the million even if I had gotten it. I have seen Paul a few times at KISS concerts over the years since then as a fan and I still get the same thrill every time he says “Hi Ted”. So, to make a short story longer – Paul actually came up with the “Ted Poley” chorus…it was his idea 15 years ago and my buddy C.C. filled in the blanks.
HRH: When everything is said and done, musically what would you like to be remembered for?
Ted Poley: I guess being a good singer, a good live front man, making a lot of people around the world smile and releasing a c.d. called “Greatestits” with boobs on the cover.
HRH: You are on Myspace and tedpoley.com is there any other ways fans can keep up to date with you online?
Ted Poley: TedPoley.com, your one stop shopping spot for all things Ted Poley.
HRH: Ted, once again thank you for taking the time to talk to us today. Is there anything else you would like to tell the fans before we let you go?
Ted Poley: Yes! Thank you everyone for enabling me to continue to live my life long dream. I love you all and hope to see you on the road sometime soon. Oh! And please buy my “Greatestits” c.d. set at TedPoley.com

Liverpool Alt Rockers, Screaming Lights have announced details of the release of their debut album.
Like Angels will be released through Anti on Monday 5th October 2009. The tracklisting for the 11-track album is as follows:
2. 21st Century
3. Hello Tomorrow
5. Exit Wound
6. Air In A Lung
7. Champagne Socialist
Recorded with Dan Grech at the Hospital Studio in London’s Covent Garden and Parr Street in Liverpool during the Spring of ’09, the album will be preceded by a single, Hello Tomorrow, which will released on September 28th.
The band have also announced a number of festival appearances over the summer and a headline tour in October. The full list of dates are as follows:
22nd Stafford V Festival
23rd Chelmsford V Festival
29th Leeds Leeds Festival
30th Reading Reading Festival
5th Cardiff 10 Feet Tall
6th Kidderminster Tap House
7th Reading Oakford Arms
8th Newcastle World Headquarters
9th Glasgow King Tuts
10th Wakefield Escobar
Gloriously out-of-step and isolated from many of their contemporaries, Screaming Lights are very much a product of their home-town. Steeped in that time-honoured Scouse tradition of forward-thinking, bloody-minded psychedelia, Like Angels shares a fair bit with the likes of fellow Mersey pop-pranksters such as The Teardrops or The Bunnymen.
Very adventurous yet still anchored in that classic Liverpudlian song-writing tradition, the 11-tracks of the album sound far more accomplished then one would expect on a debut album from band just out of school. A truly innovative and exciting debut.
Screaming Lights are: Alan Breen (bass), James Connor (drums), Max Goldberg (guitar) & James Treadell (vocals / guitar).

On August 4th, Tantric released a follow up effort to their somewhat disappointing disc The End Begins from 2008.
Is Mind Control more of the same, or is this a return to form for the Louisville, KY alt rockers?
I immediately noticed the heaviness of the opening track “Mind Control”, and was hoping this was the direction the band was heading. I wouldn’t call Mind Control a heavy album by any means, but there are some songs on this CD that are much harder than I am used to hearing Tantric play.
“Kick Back” sees the band heading into a Shinedown like direction, while the title track “Mind Control” brings Creed to mind.
The opening riffs of “Fall To the Ground” nearly reminded me of early Lynch Mob. Hugo Ferreira gets a little growly with his vocals on this tune. This song gets better with every listen.
I am not sure what to think about the song “Coming Undone”. This song is quite a mixed bag for me. It almost sounds as if Tantric is trying to head into the Tool territory. The song starts off with a really cool violin and piano intro, and then blasts off into a grungy mid-tempo number. For whatever reason, this songs sounds unnatural for Tantric, but I must admit that it is growing on me.
“Desert Me” is a typical post grunge song that, if anything sounds kind of generic. If I were to hear this song on the radio, I would not be able to tell it apart from a lot of the other stuff that is being played today.
“The Past is the Past” has some cool guitar parts that bring U2 to mind. This song will be a hit without a doubt.
“Walk Away” is a catchy rocker, and “What Are You Waiting For” sounds like it is a hit waiting to happen. Both songs are enhanced with the violin of Marcus Ratzenboeck. The violin isn’t an instrument that you hear much of in rock music, and I appreciate his playing on these songs, and on this album.
“Lets Start” is another harder edged tune that rocks pretty well. Half of the song has this cool riff, that brings U2 to mind once more. The other half has these cool heavy crunch filled guitar riffs. This is a pretty cool tune that I would like to hear Tantric do more of.
Tantric has released another solid effort with Mind Control. There are at least seven or eight songs that I will get a lot of replay out of. While this disc may not be as good as their debut record, it is easily their best one since then. This is one of the better alternative rock albums of 2009.
Rating : Out of 10
1. Mind Control
2. Fall To The Ground
3. Coming Undone
4. Desert Me
5. The Past Is The Past
6. Kick Back

11. Let’s Start
12. Guiding Me
Hugo Ferreira – lead vocals and keyboard
Joe Pessia – guitar
Erik Leonhardt – bass and vocals
Marcus Ratzenboeck – violin
