Legendary hard rock icons RATT announced today that Infestation will be the title of their next album, due out in March 2010 via Loud & Proud/Roadrunner Records. Infestation is the band’s first studio album since 1999. The band lived together at Elvis’ Virginia studio while recording the album. In addition to core, longtime members Stephen Pearcy, Warren DeMartini and Bobby Blotzer, the album also features new guitarist Carlos Cavazo, formerly of Quiet Riot, and Robbie Crane, who has been with the band for twelve years, will continue on bass.

This week Fresh Blood makes our first trip to Ireland to check out a Ballyknockan four piece known as Glyder. Formerly known as H*llyw**d, the band rechristened themselves as Glyder in 2004. Glyder consists of Tony Cullen (Vocals and Bass), Bat Kinane (Guitars and Backing Vocals), Pete Fisher (Guitars),and Davy Ryan (Drums) have taken their Thin Lizzy influenced brand of classic rock to new heights with each new release, starting with their self titled debut followed by “Playground For Life” and an E.P. “Weather The Storm”. Glyder has also toured across Europe with some of the biggest names in rock including Gotthard, Thunder, Def Leppard, Whitesnake, Motley Crue, Velvet Revolver, and Metallica just to name a few. They are currently preparing for the release of their third full length album “Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow”, and judging by the growth displayed with each previous release, the new album may finally be the one to garner the band world wide attention.
With such songs as “That Line”, “Gamblers Blues”, “Jack Strong”, and “Pretty Useless People”, the band’s songwriting skills also offer proof that real talent and skill will always out last the latest musical trends. Fans of not only Thin Lizzy, but also Blue Oyster Cult, Gary Moore, Deep Purple, and even early Iron Maiden will want to get their hands on Glyder’s music. Glyder’s music is available from I-Tunes, emusic.com, as well as cdbaby.com. You can also visit the band’s myspace to preview tracks or their website. Glyder is definitely a thrill ride you do not want to miss.

Nineties rock gave Day of Fire lead singer Josh Brown a muse, a voice and stardom. Then it nearly killed him. Now his band is giving the sounds that first inspired him new life on Day of Fire’s third album Losing All, a powerful hard-rock record that explores the real meaning of rebirth.
Brown grew up in Jackson, Tennessee, where he picked up songwriting and a serious drug habit at age 15. Two years later he became the frontman for Full Devil Jacket, and at 22 he scored the big-time record deal. Jacket performed with Stone Temple Pilots, Papa Roach, Incubus, Slipknot, and Fuel as well as at Woodstock ’99, but on his way to major success, Brown had a major crash: a heroin overdose in an Orlando bathroom put his career on hold while he rehabbed and rethought his life.
After several years out of the spotlight, Brown had a burst of inspiration, re-emerged with a new slate of songs and assembled Day of Fire – guitarist Joe Pangallo, his brother Chris Pangallo on bass, and drummer Zach Simms. Brown penned most of their 2004 self-titled debut in his mom’s garage and the band wrote and recorded its follow-up, 2006’s CUT & MOVE, during a brief break in touring. The two albums sold more than 150,000 copies combined, and a few short years later Day of Fire inked a new deal with Razor & Tie.
San Antonio rockers, Powderburn has issued the following update:
We boys in Powderburn have been VERY busy over the whole of 2009, working our tails off to create, record, and supplement our new record, One Fix. We’ve slept in the studio, fought over song titles, filmed ourselves making KISS dolls have sex, shot a video in triple-digit heat, wrote a book (seriously, check out the 4th Package option on our MySpace) and finally, we’ve made a historic decision about what to do with this music . . . .
We’re going to give you this record, one-hundred percent free. That’s right. You heard that word correctly. FREE.
Of course, we’re not giving you the whole experience free, but following in the trail-blazing footsteps of luminiaries like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails, we are giving you a good-quality digital download of the album right here on Reverb Nation, all you have to do is go to our page there and download away!
By the way, if you are interested in helping our cause financially, we are offering a series of packages on our MySpace page, ranging from just the physical CD (with 16-page booklet designed by Sneaky Giants) to the Ultimate Fix, with art prints of each band member and a poster (again, by Sneaky Giants) signed and numbered by the band, along with an 80-page hardcover book detailing the writing, recording, and filming of One Fix. These packages will be the best way to experience the album to its fullest, and will help us finance the NEXT record!
Thanks in advance for getting our music, and for spreading the word. We love you all. Ciao.
To celebrate next week’s release of their new album, Congregation of the Damned, Atreyu has created “Metal Head Zombies,” loosely based on the original Call of Duty video game. “Metal Head Zombies” is a first person shooter that requires players to protect themselves from zombies who are out for blood and attacking from all directions. If players make it to Level 6, they gain access to a never-before-heard track titled, “Gallows” from the new album. Once done mowing down the undead, make sure to pre-order your copy of Congregation of the Damned, in stores October 27th!

It was a tragedy when we lost Bon Scott back in 1980. AC/DC’s front man will never be forgotten. When it comes to the band ’77, I believe Bon Scott may have been reincarnated as ’77’s singer, Armand Valeta. Not only does Valeta sound like Bon Scott, but his brother LG, has the Angus Young style of play down to a science. ’77 has been able to reproduce the sound of pre-80’s AC/DC almost perfectly.
Some may argue that ’77 is nothing more than a clone band, and perhaps they are. When a CD rocks as hard as 21st Century Rock, I could care less. ’77 doesn’t sound like a watered down tribute band. These Spanish rockers completely nail the hard rocking sound of AC/DC. This is the type of music that you immediately want to crank up, and play as loudly as possible.
21st Century Rock has a bunch of fun tunes including, “Big Smoker Pig”, “Your Game’s Over”, “Double-Tongued Woman”. I can’t get “Big Smoker Pig” out of my head. It is insanely catchy, even if the lyrics are somewhat silly. Did the band write this song about a Barbecue? One may never know.
If you are a fan of AC/DC, you owe it to yourself to give ’77 a chance. There isn’t a bad song on this CD, and it absolutely rocks!

In 2009, Eonian Records has been uncovering some classic metal acts that never got their due. Chicago’s Uzi is another band that showed a lot of potential, but by the time they relocated to L.A., the hair metal scene was dead. If this band would have made the move five years earlier, they could have made their mark on the music scene. There a quite a few cool rockers on Madhouse that are worth checking out.
The CD opens up with the title track “Madhouse”. This sleazy rocker had me sold on the first listen. This tune has a lot of energy that really sets the stage well for the rest of the album.
“American Dream” is a short little rocker, clocking in just shy of three minutes. It does a good job at keeping the pace going on the CD.
“Away From My Heart” is a power ballad that should have generated a hit for the band. While it doesn’t break any new ground, it is easily as good as a lot of the stuff that was being released in the late eighties and early nineties.
“Rocker” reminds of classic Skid Row, while the tune “Raise Hell” is more like a Def Leppard tune. Both tunes are very cool!
“For the Money” is a kick ass, foot-stomper that has it all: cowbell, horns and some excellent guitar noodling. This is as good as any closing song that I have heard all year.
It doesn’t detract from the experience too much, as the songs are pretty good.
There are far too many cool bands out there that never got their due. Madhouse is a cool retrospective on a band that should have been huge. I am grateful for Eonian Records, as they have uncovered another gem with Uzi’s Madhouse.

Gotthard is back with their 9th studio release Need To Believe, and one of Switzerland’s finest exports does not disappoint. Since the release of their self-titled debut in 1992 Gotthard, which consist of Steve Lee (Vocals), Leo Leoni (Guitars), Freddy Scherer (Guitars), Marc Lynn (Bass), and Hena Habegger (Drums), has built a reputation as one of the finest and most popular hard rock bands in Europe and around the world, but they are virtually unknown here is the U.S.. Fans of blues based, Zeppelin/Whitesnake/Deep Purple influenced hard rock should be lining up to get their copy of not only Need To Believe but Gotthard’s entire catalog.
“Shangri-La” kicks Need To Believe off with a Eastern Asia flavored intro before kicking into the song. Lee’s vocals sound great as do the background vocals, and the band’s Zeppelin influence really shines through on the entire song but especially on the solo, a great way to get the album rolling. “Unspoken Words” is a rocker with stadium written all over it, Leoni and Scherer make a great guitar tandem and Marc Lynn’s thumping bass gives the song a full sound. “Need To Believe” is a dark and slow building song until it kicks in a the chorus again it is filled with some great vocals by Lee and even though the song is dark it is still very much a sing along song and Leoni has another nice solo maybe the best so far. “Unconditional Faith” is a foot tapping mid-tempo number with some mandolin added to give the song a fuller sound with the band’s Whitesnake influence starting to raise it’s head a little, but on “I Don’t Mind”, David Coverdale’s influence is shining its brightest on this rocker from the guitar intro to Lee’s vocals and the rhythm section of Lynn/Habegger sound phenomenal we even get treated with a little COW BELL. I would definitely love to hear this song in a live setting guaranteed to get the crowd going.
Another song custom built for the stadium and bic lighters is “Break Away” an epic feeling mid tempo number with Lee’s vocals shining through once again, I could see this song being played with an orchestra and it would make “Break Away” even better than it already is. “Don’t Let Me Down” is a classic sounding power ballad that back in the day would have everyone knowing who Gotthard was because it would have been all over radio. Excellent acoustic opening that is joined by some nice piano before the band kicks in at the chorus. “Right From Wrong” is a modern sounding rocker that goes for the throat and once it grabs hold it doesn’t let go, the band as a whole sounds great on this track. “Rebel Soul” and the bonus track “Ain’t Enough” are two more straight up rockers built for a stadium show.
Any fan of hard rock should have Need To Believe and pretty much any of Gotthard’s albums in their collection, as they are without a doubt one of the best hard rock bands around today.

This weekened marked the 20th Anniversary of the KISS CD, Hot in the Shade. This is the last CD to feature the late Eric Carr, and the first to feature song writing credits of current KISS guitarist Tommy Thayer.
Once upon a time, I didn’t care for this KISS album very much, but I decided to revisit, especially with all of the hoopla over the new KISS CD, Sonic Boom. Much to my surprise, I like this album a lot more now, than when it was initially released. I am glad that I got reacquainted with Hot in the Shade.
“Rise To It” is a great hard rocking cut to lead off the album with. I can’t understand why this song doesn’t get played live by KISS.
Gene Simmons handles the vocals on “Betrayed” and does a solid job. The catchy sing-along chorus in this tune really works. This is a very under rated KISS tune.
The Paul Stanley/Desmond Child penned tune “Hide Your Heart” was a modest hit for KISS. I am not a huge fan of the song. It is maybe a bit too pop for my tastes. I like Ace Frehley’s version of this song (on Trouble Walkin’) better.
“Read My Body” has a total hair metal feel, and is a pretty cool tune to boot.
“Forever” is the ultimate KISS ballad, and one of the band’s biggest hits in the nineties. I was glad to see this one show up on the Greatest Hits CD in the Sonic Boom package.
The late, great Eric Carr sings on the song “Little Caesear”. Carr may not have been the best vocalist in the KISS, but he does a damn fine job on this hard rocking tune.
Overall, this is a better album than I originally remembered it to be. There are quite a few solid tunes, but Hot in the Shade is not without some filler material. It is worth picking up if you can find it cheap, and you can at this link.
