LEGENDARY BAND CELEBRATES TWO ALBUMS IN THE BILLBOARD TOP 200 SIMULTANEOUSLY!….
NEW RELEASE CAN’T SLOW DOWN ENTERS AT NUMBER 29;….
2008 RELEASE NO END IN SIGHT ALSO ON CHARTS
Foreigner, one of the world’s most popular and enduring rock bands, celebrates having two albums in the Billboard Top 200 chart simultaneously. The band’s new release, Can’t Slow Down, entered the upper atmosphere of the chart at a very impressive number 29, their highest entry since Inside Information made its number 15 chart debut in 1987. Their 2008 album release, No End In Sight: The Very Best of Foreigner, re-entered the chart at number 147. This unique achievement puts Foreigner in a class of its own as the only classic rock artist in recent history to have two albums, both featuring newly recorded tracks, in the Top 200 simultaneously. This week, the first single taken from the album, “When It Comes To Love”, debuted on the Radio & Records Adult Contemporary Top Thirty chart at number 28.
Foreigner’s brand of a thrilling mix of blustery blues and impeccably crafted pop continues to captivate generation after generation of music fans. Founded in 1976, Foreigner has sold more than 70 million albums and has experienced multi-platinum success around the world.

WIN A COPY OF ZZ TOP’s DOUBLE DOWN LIVE 2 DVD SET FROM HARDROCKHIDEOUT.COM!
ZZ Top will be releasing Double Down Live, the first historic concert performance ever to be approved for release by the band. Clocking in at just under two hours, this double dose disc delivers twenty-eight years of hard rock, blues, and boogie – ZZ Top Style! The package hits stores on October 20th through Eagle Rock Entertainment.
Disc one, filmed in 1980, is dubbed “DEFINITELY THEN” and is packed with 22 early ZZ Top classics from their Tres Hombres and Fandango! albums, including: “La Grange,” “Tush,” “Cheap Sunglasses,” “Tube Snake Boogie,” and more, many of which remain in their live set to this day. This concert was captured at the Grugahalle in Essen, Germany for the Rockpalast TV series. The concert took place hot on the heels of the release, 30 years ago, of their classic Deguello album (it features 9 of the 10 songs from it). The show found ZZ Top in the era prior to the band’s discovery of sequencers and synthesizers and epitomized the down ‘n’ dirty take no prisoners attitude of “that lil’ ol’ band from Texas” nickname. To this day, this disc is a true best of ZZ Top in the seventies.
Disc two, subtitled “ALMOST NOW,” was shot during their European tour in 2008, includes 11 performances, interview clips, and backstage footage to create the ultimate ZZ Top on the road movie.

Domenica has just released their new album, “The Luxury”. You can check out their new song, “Above Me” for free, by downloading it at this link.
Winger is back with a brand new album, Karma and they are ready to kick your ass. While they may have been the butt of some heavy metal jokes back in the day (thanks Beavis & Butthead), Karma is no laughing matter. I don’t know what Kip and the band have been doing over the last couple of years, but I know this, they’ve worked hard to put out an incredible new record.
Karma opens with the hard hitting “Deal With The Devil”. The drums and guitars kick in immediately, and then Kip launches into the vocals. The first thing noticeable about Kip’s voice is that it sounds eerily like David Coverdale’s. This happens throughout most of the record. Kip is older now, so his voice probably changed over the years, but the high notes are no longer his friend.
“Big World Away” is a heavy rock song with a touch of grunge and a lot of grit. Beach’s stand out guitar is felt immediately, and Kip’s “David Coverdale” voice really gives this song a Whitesnake feel with a Winger chorus. It’s a song that gets your feet tapping and will have you listening over and over again. “Big World Away” will definitely hook you on Karma and have you proclaiming what an excellent record this is.
The guitar work on this record is nothing short of fantastic. Even the songs that aren’t spectacular (fortunately that’s just a couple) are saved by the guitar solos. It’s amazing the amount of work that went into the guitar playing for this record. Reb Beach should be celebrated for the amazing work he has done. His guitar licks are all over this record and every one of them sounds incredible. Beach really makes this disc shine.
“After All This Time” is a great power ballad, part of the 1-2 set of ballads to close the album. This is a slow, melodic rocker with balls. The heavy blues influence can be felt in this song about still being in love after many years have passed. Once again, Beach’s guitar solo is fantastic and inspiring. If I was a teenager hearing this for the first time, it would force me to get a guitar and learn how to play.
Karma closes with the absolutely stunning “Witness”, an amazing power ballad with the emphasis on power. Witness is a closer that leaves you wanting to hear more. This is one of the few songs on Karma where Kip Winger’s voice shines through. The feature guitar solo to close the track is one of the greatest I’ve heard in a long time. Simply breath taking and it totally fueled my desire to hear this song live.
With incredible guitars, solid lyrics, and well written, beautifully crafted songs, Karma is poised to thrust Winger back into the spotlight and the center of the mainstream. If they team up with another 80s hair metal act for a summer tour, expect sellout crowds at most stops along the way. Winger is back, let the party resume!
Karma will be released on October 27th in the United States.

Co-founding member, principal co-songwriter, lead guitarist and co-producer of Aerosmith, JOE PERRY, will release his fifth solo CD Have Guitar, Will Travel on Tuesday, October 6th. The hard driving, ten-song, in your face, collection features Perry’s trademark rock and blues ferocity, as well as the CD’s first single, the blazing “We’ve Got A Long Way To Go,” set for release later this summer. Recorded this past spring at the BoneYard, Perry’s state-of-the-art home studio, where Aerosmith’s Honkin’ On Bobo and Just Push Play were recorded, Have Guitar, Will Travel is entirely written and produced by Perry.
Still as scorching hot on guitar as he is preternaturally cool in his persona, Have Guitar, Will Travel is a departure for Perry in that the CD was conceived as a band recording. From start to finish it took only forty-seven days to complete. “Making this record in such a short period of time gave us a chance to capture an energy and flow that was very different from the last record,” said Perry. “The way the players came together at a time when I had the music and lyrics in my head ready to go was pure synchronicity. The last record rocked, but this one rocks and then some. I’m really proud of it.
“We’ve Got A Long Way To Go,” the CDs first single, showcases the voice of a young German singer known as Hagen, found completely by chance on YouTube by Joe’s wife Billie. “I first called him from Cleveland when I went to perform at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Jam with Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Ron Wood, Flea and Metallica,” said Perry. “It took several minutes to convince him that it wasn’t a prank call, but a true invitation to audition to sing on the CD.” Hagen mans the microphone for five tracks, while Perry sings lead on four. The remaining tenth song is an instrumental entitled “Wooden Ships.”
In addition, Perry attracted an esteemed roster of some of the best players that the music world has to offer; bassist David Hull, who played with The Buddy Miles Band at 19 and was in the Joe Perry Project in the 80s, drummer Ben Tileston, a Boston University percussion graduate, who plays drums with two of Perry’s sons in TAB The Band, Paul Santo, whose played Hammond Organ/Pipe Organ with the likes of Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton and Ozzy Osbourne, drummers Scott Meeder and Marty Richards and Willie “Loco” Alexander, Boston’s “Godfather of Punk,” who was part of the Bostown sound of the band “the Bagatelle.”
A six-week Twitter search was conducted to find the CDs title. The winner, out of nearly 2000 entries, was Joe Piscitelli, who used a play on the old CBS television program “Have Gun – Will Travel.”
The release of Have Guitar, Will Travel follows self-produced solo releases including Let The Music Do The Talking (1980), Once A Rocker, Always A Rocker (1983), I’ve Got The Rock ‘N’ Rolls Again (1981) and 2005’s Joe Perry, which received universal critical praise and earned Perry his first solo Grammy nomination for Best Instrumental Song (“Mercy”).
Perry is planning a “short, fast, hard tour” with the Joe Perry Project.

It has been fourteen years since Lita Ford’s last album, Black. In her long absence away from the metal scene Lita has been lost in the Caribbean with her husband Jim Gillette (Nitro), and has been focused on her family, not music. Unfortunately, Wicked Wonderland shows just that. On this new album, Lita Ford has reinvented her sound, and I am not sure which set of music fans she is trying to appeal to. Her old fans will be left scratching their head, and I am not sure how many new fans this music will appeal to.
I have no problem with an artist updating their sound, or trying to stay current. Even though hair metal had made a minor comeback over the last few years, I didn’t expect Lita to put out a disc that sound like her 80’s material. If you go back and listen to her album Black from 1995, you will see a change in her sound. That disc showed a somewhat different direction from Lita’s roots, but it still worked. After a few spins of Wicked Wonderland, I wish she had gone back to the sound that helped make her famous. Some of the songs on Wicked Wonderland work well enough, but most of them are a maybe a little too grungy for their own good. Lita Ford’s husband, Jim Gillette, who was once known for his glass breaking screams in the band Nitro, shares the vocal duties on this CD. The odd thing is, he sings in a gruff, sometimes menacing voice that is completely unlike anything Nitro fans have heard either. Overall, it makes for a strange combination. It almost sounds as if Lita listened to a heavy dose of Rob Zombie in her hiatus.
The opening cut “Crave” is kind of cool. I will admit that this song has grown on me somewhat, even through it has an almost industrial like feel.
“Piece” on the other hand makes me shudder. It oozes sex, but not in a good way. This song has a grungy rap like feel, and for my ears, it just doesn’t work.
“Patriotic SOB” starts off with Lita’s sons pledging the allegiance to the flag. It then blasts off into a grunge filled rocker. This song isn’t great, but isn’t terrible either. It does have some catchy moments.
On the song “Inside” Lita shares the vocals with her husband Jim. This song has a sexual yet eerie vibe. I could actually see this song getting used in a Vampire flick of some sort.
I could almost hear the title track Wicked Wonderland getting some play in the dance/strip clubs. It has a pretty cool groove that is undeniably catchy.
The production on Wicked Wonderland is top notch, but the production can not help the weak songs, and there are far too many of them. I kept trying to find another song or two that might change my mind about this disc, but I could not find one. Overall, I found Wicked Wonderland to be a major disappointment. I still love Lita Ford, and I will definitely catch her on her tour with Queensryche. I just hope she plays more of her classic material.

Alter Bridge Lead Singer Confirmed as Keynote Speaker at Billboard’s Mobile Entertainment Live!
Myles Kennedy, front man for melodic power rockers Alter Bridge, has been confirmed as a headline performer and keynote speaker for Billboard’s Mobile Entertainment Live! October 6th Fall 2009 Conference, presented by Logic Wireless. Mobile Entertainment Live! at Int’l CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & Entertainment, taking place this week at the San Diego Convention Center.
In association with Rockpit.com, the new music website dedicated to all things rock, Kennedy will perform a live acoustic set at the Billboard Mobile Entertainment Live! Party at Hard Rock,San Diego. He also will preview, to the invite-only crowd of press and industry executives, the soon-to-be-released Alter Bridge Live in Amsterdam DVD, directed and produced by award-winning director Daniel E. Catullo III and DC3 Global Music, LLC.
Kennedy and Alter Bridge have emerged as rock music game-changers, building a loyal fan base both stateside and internationally through unconventional viral and digital marketing. The band’s creative digital and mobile outreach have been paramount to their rapid rise, allowing them to connect with their fans in a more authentic and meaningful way.
“Our world is changing right before our eyes,” says Kennedy. “The only way to truly stay connected and relevant to our fans everywhere is to take it straight to where they are – on their mobile phones. We realize we’ve got to do more than just be on iTunes and YouTube. To really connect, you have to be a part of everyday lives – accessible and real.”
Kennedy is one of the most sought after rockers of the digital generation. His singer-songwriter prowess and four octave vocal range earned him a place opposite Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston in the 2001 film Rock Star, directed by George Clooney. Credited with intensely resonating vocals influenced by the greats of jazz and R&B, Kennedy also has been courted by Velvet Revolver, the members of Led Zeppelin, and Creed. In 2004, Kennedy teamed up with three former members of Creed to form Alter Bridge.
In a rare speaking appearance, Kennedy also will join Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy and Billboard Editorial Director Bill Werde on stage to discuss how the music industry can best use mobile technology and devices to keep fans engaged.
“We’re excited to have a musician of Myles Kennedy’s notoriety keynoting and performing live at Mobile Entertainment Live! this year,” said Antony Bruno, Executive Director of Content & Programming, Digital/Mobile, at Billboard. Billboard’s Mobile Entertainment Live! Fall 2009, kicking off the CTIA festivities Oct. 6, 2009 at the Omni Hotel in San Diego, will explore how today’s advanced mobile devices and applications have revolutionized the music industry, and will examine how artists, promoters and managers are using them to promote and profit in new ways.

Cyber rockers POWERMAN 5000’s new album, Somewhere on the Other Side of Nowhere, is finally hitting stores this week. The collection finds the band returning to the hard groove of their earlier work which included hits like “When Worlds Collide” and “Nobody’s Real.” “We made this record with a clear vision and a purpose,” explains frontman, Spider. “We wanted to reclaim a sound we created and represent certain influences as only a band like Powerman 5000 can.
While writing, we would watch ‘Godzilla’ or ‘Ultraman’ films to ensure the sonics were on point. We knew that this record needed to sound like the footsteps of a giant robot!”
“On the surface, this album is a big fun electro metal romp…though there are bigger concepts hidden within. A quote from HG Wells sums it up best, he said, ‘Man is the unnatural animal, the rebel child of nature.’ That is an ongoing theme in the songs, our inability to find a place in our own world. I couldn’t be happier with the results. I finally feel like we have made a record that not only is exactly wanted we wanted it to be, but also a record that the fans are going to love!”
The band has released 2 singles from the new album so far, “Super Villain” and “V Is For Vampire,” and recently filmed a video for the latter with horror film director Robert Hall.

OUR LADY PEACE–Raine Maida (vocalist), Duncan Coutts (bass), Jeremy Taggart (drums), Steve Mazur (guitar)—will be kicking off a U.S. headlining tour starting October 19 in Solana Beach, CA to promote their seventh studio album, BURN BURN, which was released July 21 via Coalition Entertainment (Records) through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group. While the trek is set to conclude October 31, more dates are being added throughout the rest of the year.
The album, which debuted at #41 on the Billboard “Top 200 Albums” chart, has already produced a hit single with “All You Did Was Save My Life,” thanks to heavy rotation at four different formats: Alternative, Top 40, Triple A and Active. The video stars fellow Canadian, Shenae Grimes, of “90210” and “Degrassi: The Next Generation” fame.
“The End Is Where We Begin” is the second single is now being serviced to radio and has recently been added to stations nationwide including KDGE/Dallas, KTBZ/Houston, WKRK/Cleveland, KRBZ/Kansas City, WPBZ/West Palm Beach and WGRD/Grand Rapids. A video for the song will make its premiere in the next couple of weeks.
Primarily self-produced in lead singer Raine Maida’s Los Angeles home studio, BURN BURN marks the longest period between studio albums for Our Lady Peace. It also signifies a sonic and philosophical rebirth. The band now enjoys a creative and professional freedom that they haven’t experienced since the release of their now classic debut. “I think about the way we made NAVEED,” Maida recalls. “We were just starting, we knew nothing about the business and we had no expectations. It was four guys in a room just trusting their instincts. We went back to that. ‘Liberating’ doesn’t really even sum it up.”
BURN BURN is a triumphant return to what Maida terms “a proper, mature rock album,” steeped in the kind of raw intensity that drove their early material. Blinding rays of anthemic light make way to the tender poise and precision of a band that was looking for a way out and found a satisfying new way in.
Our Lady Peace’s live show is as good as it’s ever been and was on display during July’s sold-out shows in New York City and Los Angeles that had Billboard gushing, “OLP proved their readiness as arena-worthy superstars during the opening night of the Canadian act’s U.S. tour.” The performance in Los Angeles left the Troubadour none-too-pleased with the damage OLP incurred. Maida victoriously climbed up to walls to the second floor during “All You Did Was Save My Life,” leaving a heap of destruction in his wake. A fan caught the stunt on video and it can be seen below.
The album has been racking up rave reviews since the album’s release:
“…a nice return to the soaring rock they made their name on. Lead singer Raine Maida sounds more mature than ever – mostly forsaking his once eye-popping falsetto – and brings a poetic touch to his tales of everyday struggle and hope…Often praised for their energetic live show, OLP keeps the anthemic tracks flowing with ‘The End Is Where We Begin,’ ‘Escape Artist,’ ‘Refuge,’ and the blistering ‘White Flags.’ Check This Track Out: ‘Monkey Brains’ is a manic blast of energy that features a – dare I say it – Iron Maiden-influenced effort by bassist Duncan Coutts.”
–John Kosik, Associated Press
“Fingerprints of the band’s past are all over it, from the frantic basslines and guitar blasts found on the eccentric ‘Monkey Brains’ to stripped-down rocker ‘White Flags’…the soaring, piano-driven ‘Never Get Over You’ is proof that singer Raine Maida can still write a killer ballad.”
–Evan Lucy, Billboard
“…the slower moments are anthemic rather than sappy and the fist-pumping rockers are infused with righteousness and not mirth, with the two extremes tied together with an earthbound spaciness that splits the difference between U2 and Coldplay.”
–Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
“…a bombastic rock record…”
–Mike Schiller, Popmatters.com

Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the European release of the brand new MASTEDON album “3” on November 6th 2009.
Mastedon is the Hard Rock band put together by ex KANSAS singer John Elefante, together with his brother Dino in the late 80’s. The band’s name was a pachyderm-inspired reference to the brothers’ last name. Although John was an accomplished vocalist and performer, the first two Mastedon albums featured multiple lead singers and performances by other artists, creating an eclectic sound anchored by John’s songwriting. His brother Dino played a prominent role, contributing songwriting and handling most of the guitar work. Some of the collaborators in the band’s first two albums were Dave Amato (REO Speedwagon), Stef Burns (Y&T), bassists John Pierce (Richard Marx) and John Patitucci plus guest vocalists David Pack (Ambrosia), David Robbins (X-Sinner), Tom Bowes (Tower of Power), James Dean Longacre (Life9) and Perry Lee (Tracer Fox).
In 1996 John Elefante started a solo career that brought him to release three successful albums more in the Adult Contemporary – Pop Rock vein. After a few years of hiatus, John decided to go back to his roots sound with a brand new Mastedon album that – contrary to the predecessors – would only feature his amazing lead vocals. Musically, the new album, simply entitled “3” harkens back to the best of Mastedon and to his work with Kansas. None other than main Kansas songwriter Kerry Livgren appears on lead guitar on this new release, collaborating on a 11 minute piece of music that any Kansas fan will surely love! More famed musicians and such as Dave Amato (REO Speedwagon), Anthony Sallee (Whiteheart), Dan Needham (Michael McDonald, Neville Brothers, Amy Grant, Garth Brooks etc) and of course John’s brother Dino Elefante contribute to the performance of this superb new release.
Rich melodic harmonies and melodies are the keys to a Mastedon record and “3” is clearly an instant winner in all its moments and will remain as an hallmark in John Elefante’s career for many years to come.
Final tracklisting of “3” includes: Revolution of Mind; Slay Your Demons; Nowhere Without Your Love; One Day Down By The Lake (See You Real Soon); Water Into Wine (Fassa Rokka), Questions (It’s About Time); You Can’t Take Anything; Lying; The Western World; That’s What You Do; Dust In the Wind (exclusive bonus track).
As a companion to this new release, Frontiers managed to acquire the rights for the re-release of Mastedon’s legendary debut album “It’s a Jungle Out There!”. Released originally in 1989, it charted at #25 in the Billboard Top Contemporary Christian chart. To this day, this album is still considered classics in the genre and has reached some amazing prices in the trades on E-bay. Frontiers new reissue includes full lyrics and three bonus tracks “Wasn’t It Love” (from the compilation “California Metal”) and live versions of “Islands In The Sky” and “Right Hand” recorded live at Cornerstone in 1991. Full tracklisting is below:
It’s A Jungle Out There; Glory Bound; This Is The Day; Love Inhalation; Islands In The Sky; Get Up; Love That Will Survive; Innocent Girl; Shine On; Right Hand; Wasn’t It Love *; Islands In The Sky (Live at Cornerstone ’91)*; Right Hand (Live at Cornerstone ’91)*

“The Hottest Band In The Land” Kiss is back with their first new studio album in 11 years. After two very disappointing albums in the late nineties, “Carnival of Souls” and “Psycho Circus”, a lot of fans were left thinking the band was through; with studio albums anyways. But seriously folks, did you really think Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley would let Kiss go out with a huge stinking thud?? I think not! “Sonic Boom” is everything the Kiss Army has been clamoring for years to hear, which is a step back to the sound of such Kiss classics “Destroyer” and “Rock and Roll Over” and the guys do not disappoint in the lest bit.
Admittedly I was not crazy about the album’s lead off “Modern Day Delilah” at first listen or even the second go around, but after a few listens it has started growing on me, which in my opinion is the best way to go. Paul Stanley sounds great, he can still seduce your mom out of her panties and she wouldn’t have a clue it was happening until it was too late. One thing I had forgotten over the years is that Gene Simmons can actually play bass and play it pretty damn good; here he lays down some nice thumping bass lines. After years on the sidelines Tommy Thayer finally gets a little of the spot light to shine on him and he makes the most of it showing the world he is a disciple of Ace Frehley, without stepping all over Ace’s legacy. On “Russian Roulette” Gene takes over the vocals and as usual it is a slow dirty innuendo laden song that Gene sings to perfection, while also laying down more heavy thumping bass lines, classic sing a long chorus, one of the early surprises on the album. “Never Enough” screams single and rightly so as it is one of the best songs Kiss has recorded in years. They could throw this song into the live show and it would fit right in without missing a beat, definitely a new Kiss classic. “Yes I Know (Nobody’s Perfect)” sounds like it could’ve been taken from the “Destroyer” or “Love Gun” recording sessions, great 70’s feel to it, this may actually be the best Gene Simmons song I’ve heard. “Stand” is yet another anthem with a late 80’s/early 90’s feel to it. Not the best song on the album but still better than 90% of the songs bands are releasing today. All I really need to say about “Hot & Cold” is COW-BELL COW-BELL COW-BELL!!! Honestly Gene has really surprised me with how good his vocals sound on this album.
Of Course, I couldn’t get through this review without mentioning Eric Singer and while his drumming is phenomenal throughout the album it is when he steps up to the mike on “All For The Glory” that he really shines, the sound reminds me of “Creatures of the Night” or maybe “Lick It Up”. “Danger Us” and “I’m An Animal” borrow some influence from Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin respectively, but Paul and Gene borrow with style. “When Lightning Strikes” marks the return of the COW-BELL and if you hear a little Black N’ Blue in the song then it should not surprise you that Tommy Thayer has stepped up to the mike and absolutely knocks this song out of the park!! “When Lightning Strikes” goes with “Never Enough” as my two favorite songs off “Sonic Boom”. The album wraps up with “Say Yeah” and with that I can say yeah to quite a few things about “Sonic Boom”. Yeah “Sonic Boom” is a kick ass ride from beginning to end. Yeah Tommy Thayer finally gets some of the attention he has earned and deserved over the years. Yeah “Sonic Boom” is the best Kiss album in years. Yeah it is possible “Sonic Boom” is Kiss’s best album since the mid 70’s. Yeah it definitely deserves a spot alongside “Destroyer”, “Rock and Roll Over”, and “Love Gun” as a Kiss classic, because that is simply what it is.

Canadian hard rockers HELIX will release their new album, “Vagabond Bones”, in Canada on November 17 via Universal/Fontana. Singer Brian Vollmer has been collaborating with Sean Kelly (CRASH KELLY) on material for the CD, which was mixed by engineer Aaron Murray.
Commented Vollmer: “On ‘Vagabond Bones’, we were working under a self-imposed deadline of having the CD out for the fall of 2009.
“The writing relationship between Sean and I developed when Sean joined the band this past spring. At the same time my writing relationship with Gord Prior came to an end as he could not commit to the project, so Sean and I began writing with each other and quickly hit it off.
“When Sean got the job as the new guitar player for Nelly Furtado, we made a pact between the two of us to finish the new CD before he had to take off on tour. We went right down to the wire last week, but in the end victory was ours and everything was finished by the time Sean got on the plane for Europe.
“We really lucked out with the talented people we were able to involve on the project. From the recording to the artwork, the team we assembled did a remarkable job on a shoe-string budget.
“I’m very proud of this piece of work. I hope the fans will enjoy it as much as I did recording it.”
“Vagabond Bones” tentative track listing (not final sequence):
01. The Animal Inside (Won’t Be Denied)
02. Go Hard or Go Home
03. Vagabond Bones
04. Monday Morning Meltdown
05. When The Bitter’s Got The Better Of You
06. Hung Over But Still Hanging In
07. Best Mistake I Never Made
08. Make ‘Em Dance
09. Jack It Up
Vollmer’s track-by-track description of “Vagabond Bones” can be found on the band’s official web site.
The classic ’80s lineup of Canadian hard rockers HELIX — Brent “The Doctor” Doerner on lead guitar, Greg “Fritz” Hinz on drums, Daryl Gray on bass, and Brian Vollmer on vocals — recently reunited and is planning to hit the road throughout western Canada in October.
Regarding his collaboration with Kelly, Vollmer previously said, “We hit it off as writers right from the start, and the tunes we’ve produced so far have been getting great feedback. I’ve been playing them not only for industry people but to fans as well. One thing for sure — whether you love or hate this CD, you’ll find it very different from anything we’ve done in the past. In particular, ‘Monday Morning Meltdown’ is a real stretch for us. It’s BEATLES/CHEAP TRICK-influenced, which led Rudy Blair of 680 News to comment to me that ‘…if he hadn’t known who it was us, he would have thought it was a young band.'”
“Writing with Sean Kelly has really brought out some of my other musical influences, like DAVID BOWIE, T. REX, and ALICE COOPER. You can hear traces of them in different songs we’ve put together.”
HELIX has been active in the past several years with several releases. The band’s most recent collection of original material, “The Power of Rock and Roll”, came out in 2007. Their latest CD, “A Heavy Mental Christmas”, was made available in all Canadian Wal-Mart stores last November and received airplay worldwide. The CD also received great reviews from the critics.

Its not every day when you get the chance to talk to the former Metal Queen Lita Ford, but we were happy to have the opportunity at HardRockHideout.com. After a long absence from the music scene, Lita Ford is coming back strong in 2009 with a new CD, Wicked Wonderland on October 6th, a new comic, and a role in an up and coming major video game release, and of course, a tour with Queensryche.
HRH: Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to do an interview with us today. It has been fourteen long years since your last album Black, and we are damn glad you are back.
Lita Ford: Thank you very much!
HRH: What have you been up to in your long break in between Black and Wicked Wonderland?
Lita Ford: Been living on an island with my husband and 2 boys. I focused on my family. Had tons of crazy wild sex with Jim – not much else to do on our island at night!
HRH: Your return to the music scene seemed to start with your duet with Dee Snider on Twisted Sister’s Twisted Christmas CD. Did this give you the itch to start playing live again?
Lita Ford: I’ve always had the itch! I was just waiting for our kids to grow up. I wasn’t going to drag them all over the world as babies! Now they’re a little older and they LOVE it as much as I do! We’re having a blast out there!
HRH: The songs on Wicked Wonderland are a bit of a departure from your sound in the late eighties and early nineties. “Crave” is a pretty cool rocker, and “Wicked Wonderland” almost has a club like vibe to it. That has to be one of the coolest Lita Ford songs in years.
Lita Ford: Thanks very much. I wanted to come back heavier than ever and I did! I wasn’t going to come back with sandals and hairy armpit music – I wanna ROCK!
HRH: How have the fans reacted to your new songs so far?
Lita Ford: It’s been incredible! Crave debuted at #2 in the USA at metal radio! All the emails, posts, etc have been overwhelming – I’ve been blown away by the support of my fans.
HRH: What was the song writing process like for the new album?
Lita Ford: Me, Jim, and Greg Hampton wrote all the songs. When it came time to write lyrics, Jim and I would crack open a bottle of champagne and let it go.We unintentionally ended up writing pretty much the entire album about our crazy sex life! Hahaha?
HRH: What is the inspiration behind the new songs?
Lita Ford: My marriage with Jim – after 15 years we’re more in love, more in lust, and have an incredible love life. Jim’s the only man that’s ever sexually satisfied me. We’re soul mates that just happen to have a taste for kink! Sex Sex and Rock n Roll!
HRH: Back in ’95, you and Jim were working on a new project called Rumble Tribe. Did any of these songs from that project turn up on Wicked Wonderland?
Lita Ford: No that was a different animal. Great stuff back then – maybe we’ll release some of it one of these days. Wicked Wonderland is all brand new. We wrote all of it within the last year.
HRH: The artwork inside your booklet for Wicked Wonderland is pretty incredible. What can can you tell me about that?
Lita Ford: Piggy D and his girlfriend Carin did an AWESOME job for us! We absolutely LOVE the artwork! We wanted to go old school and make the artwork an important part of the package. We gave Piggy the lyrics and told him to go for it.
HRH: Bumblefoot from Guns N’ Roses, and PJ Farley from Trixter and Ra played in your band at Rocklahoma earlier this year. Who will be going on the road with you when you tour with Queensryche on the American Soldier Tour?
Lita Ford: Queensryche is my backing band!!!!How awesome is that?!?!?
Lita Ford: We’ll I’m playing a few songs in the middle of their set. Geoff is going to sing Close My Eyes with me and then I’ll do a few new songs. I can’t wait to get out there!
HRH: You are playing a bunch of cities that haven’t seen you in years. Are you excited about hitting the road?
HRH: You have always been knows to play BC Rich guitars in your career. Have you added any new guitars to your arsenal?
Lita Ford: Oh yeah! Bernie Rico Jr. is making me some incredible new guitars. Bernie’s father started BC Rich! He passed away and Bernie is keeping the family craft alive! Can’t wait for you to see some of the new guitars.
HRH: We are big fans of the Playstation 3 at HRH, and are pretty excited about the up and coming game Brutal Legend that you are featured in. What can you tell us about the game?
Lita Ford: Well Jack Black is the male lead and I’m the Queen!
Ozzy’s in it along with Lemmy, Rob Halford…It’s good to be the Queen!
HRH: You also have a new comic coming out called “The Gillettes”: Family Business. What can you tell us about that?
Lita Ford: Very excited about that too! We get to kick a lot of zombie ass!
HRH: What are some of your fondest memories of your music career so far?
Lita Ford: Being nominated for a Grammy was pretty cool – BOTH times!
Having a platinum record….Those were pretty high on the list!
HRH: In closing, is there anything you would like to tell your fans?
Lita Ford: Thank you so much! You’ve been with me a LONG time and I hope you guys will be as blessed as you’ve made me! You’ve always been so good to me and now to my family!
It means so much to me.

Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the signing of Hard Rock icons CINDERELLA for the European release on the “Live at the Mohegan Sun” album on November 6th 2009.
Featuring the all original line-up of Tom Keifer (vocals, guitar), Eric Brittingham (bass), Jeff LaBar (guitar) and Fred Coury (drums), the show was recorded during the VH1 sponsored “Rock Never Stops” package tour, which Cinderella headlined, supported by Ratt, Quiet Riot and Firehouse. The concert was held in Uncasville, Connecticut on July 21, 2005 is now officially and integrally released in Europe as an appetizer to the ultimate live return of the band on the European soil, which is planned for the year 2010!
Formed in Philadelphia in 1983 by singer/songwriter/guitarist Tom Keifer and bassist Eric Brittingham, they quickly added guitarist Jeff LaBar to the line-up. With Jody Cortez completing the band on drums, Cinderella started to write and perform original material in clubs and bars in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, until Jon Bon Jovi caught one of the performances and alerted his record company, Mercury, who immediately signed the band. Cinderella’s debut album “Night Songs”, was released in June 1986 and went on to sell over 3 million units, sporting such singles as “Shake Me“, “Nobody’s Fool” and “Somebody Save Me”. Fred Coury replaced Cortez prior to the release of “Night Songs” and the band has remained unchanged since.
Two years later Cinderella returned with their second album, “Long Cold Winter”. The record was another huge success, selling in excess of 3 million copies with tracks like ”Gypsy Road” and “Don’t Know What You Got (‘Til Its Gone)” becoming soon fan favourites.
Their third album, “Heartbreak Station”, was released in 1990 followed by “Still Climbing” in 1994. The later two albums featured songs more influenced by Keifer’s love of the blues. Cinderella disbanded in 1995 but by 1998, there was interest by promoters for Cinderella to reunite in the original lineup for a tour. Cinderella were later signed to Sony’s Portrait label by famed record executive John Kalodner, however the lack of success of the label’s initial releases brought the cancellation of the deal as the label folded.
Nevertheless, a faithful fan base supported the continued road work by the band, which reunited again in the summer of 2000 for a tour with Poison, followed by a second outing by the two groups in 2002 and regular live activity until 2006 which will be finally resumed during next year. Get ready for the return of Cinderella!

I can’t lie. I’m a sucker for lists and surveys. When friends send those stupid email questionnaires, I’m always the first to respond. It’s really hard for me to resist all the stupid surveys on Facebook. So when trying to decide what to write for Rock Whiplash, I decided to create my own little survey of sorts. It’s short and sweet and to the point: What are your top 5 favorite songs of all time?
Why favorite songs? Because I’m pretty sure I did a list of the top 10 most influential albums. Why just 5? I don’t know…because I just felt like making it difficult. I know I could list WAY more than 5. So without further ado, here is the list of my top 5 most favorite songs of all time.
1. Kashmir – As far as I’m concerned, this is the greatest rock song ever written by one of the greatest rock bands to ever exist, Led Zeppelin. The song is big, full, rich and kick ass. This song is just f-ing amazing. It’s rock & roll at it’s finest.
2. Home Sweet Home – Did you really think I’d get through a musical list of any kind without including Motley Crue? Not a chance. Although many would argue that Motley Crue has many songs that are better, this is the song that is closest to my heart. It reminds me of childhood and running home from school every day to watch the video on MTV. To this day, I get all girly and teary eyed whenever I hear it live.
3. Stranglehold – In my opinion, it may be Ted Nugent’s greatest song. The guitar is SO f-ing incredible and memorable. This song just oozes sex from beginning to end. From the sound to the tempo…it just makes me want to get it on. Was that too much information? Sorry. What can I say? Guys watch porn and I listen to Stranglehold.
4. Don’t Cry – A Guns N’ Roses masterpiece. Although Welcome to the Jungle put the boys on the map and is probably the most recognizable of all their songs, Don’t Cry is my favorite. It’s pure genius and it’s beautiful.
5. I Want You to Want Me – I know, I know. It’s cheesy and it’s most likely every girl’s favorite song. But I can’t help but bounce around and sing along when it comes on the radio. It just makes me happy.
So go ahead and list’em folks! I want to know what your all time favorite songs are. After you share your list, go on over to my blog and read my interview with the lovely Ms. Lita Ford.
