Turkey Video #2 – Anthrax with Public Enemy – Bring the Noise

Did anyone really think Anthrax with Public Enemy was a good idea?  Did this song help give birth to Nu-Metal (shudder)?  Does Flavor Flav bring anything remotely musical to hard rock?  This Public Enemy cover may have been a hit for Anthrax, but it doesn’t get any airplay today.  This song can be found on the 1991 Anthrax album, Attack of the Killer B’s. I doubt you will want to seek this turkey out though.

i agree with these two. public enemy AND anthrax were, and still are, leaders and pioneers of their genre. nu-metal didn’t come around until almost ten years after this song’s release, and i seriously doubt limp bizkit and korn got together and reminisced about the past in order to come up with their music. times change, and so does the music or otherwise we’d be listening to beethoven rocking out in the 90’s… duh! on that same note, let me be clear about one thing: anthrax never gave a shit about radio play, hence their “anthrology” entitled “no hit wonders”. i rest my case, and continue to rock out to my favourite bands, both old and new…

I liked this song too. This pairing wasn’t that surrpising either because Anthrax had been outspoken rap fans for years before this.It worked because it’s honest and not forced. Doesn’t get any airplay today? Like Anthrax were getting a great deal of radio airplay back then.

I totally disagree. While both thrash and hip-hop had lost much of their urgency by 1991, this collaboration came from two artists that, at that point, had still bucked that trend. You might be able to pin a little bit of the blame for nu metal on this one, but even so, this one has none of that sub-genre’s annoying qualities. At this point, Anthrax was still a really good band and PE was, and still is, amazing.
