The first Monday of the new year needs to rock. Check out Black Stone Cherry’s video, “Yeah Man.
This song is on the special edition of the Folklore & Superstition CD that was released last June.
There were so many good releases that came out in 2009, I am afraid that a few bands got overlooked. One such act is San Diego rock band, Thieves & Liars, and their sophomore effort, American Rock ‘N’ Roll.
On American Rock ‘N’ Roll, Thieves & Liars strayed away from the concept album of their debut, and went for a more straight forward hard rock approach. As a result, they have put together another solid album, that might have more mainstream appeal than their excellent debut. On American Rock ‘N’ Roll, the touches of Pink Floyd are gone, but the bluesy hard rock influences of Led Zeppelin, is clearly obvious in their music.
While the title track, “American Rock N Roll” is very good, it was the high octane rockers “Let’s Rock” and “Walking By My Side” that immediately hooked me. ‘Till the Walls Fall Down” seems like a cliched title me, but the song flat out rocks. I love the bluesy slide guitar of “Killed A Man”. The super catchy “Promised Land” is going to be a song that I replay a lot this year.
My only problem with this CD is that it is a little short, clocking in just over 34 minutes. Overall, this is solid release, and a great way to start out 2010.
