KEEL – Streets of Rock & Roll (2010)
It has been a long time since KEEL has given us a new album. Their last album VI was released in ’98 without much fanfare. How does their new reunion effort Streets of Rock & Roll stack up? A lot better than you might expect. With this CD, KEEL didn’t try to reinvent the wheel, and change their sound.Ā The band wanted to make a classic sounding KEEL album, and I believe they have succeeded in that task. I somewhat expected Ron Keel to have lost some of his range with his vocals, but he does a great job on this record. Marc Ferrari and Brian Jay serve up some tasty guitar riffs that fans of KEEL’s earlier releases are sure to enjoy.
There really isn’t a band tune on this CD, in fact I enjoyed them all.Ā If there was any doubt in your mind, the title track “Streets of Rock & Roll” quickly lets you know this album is going to rock. This song immediately captured my attention, and this is far from the hardest rocking track on this disc.
“Come Hell or High Water” might be one of the best KEEL songs ever.Ā This high octane rocker is easily my favorite on this CD. “Does Anybody Believe” is another great tune that will have people breaking out their lighters and cell phones in unison at KEEL’s live shows.Ā “Gimme That” is a tune that will instantly get you rocking.
Overall, Streets of Rock & Roll is now my second most favorite KEEL album next their awesome self titled album from 1987. Ron Keel & company have crafted a well written CD full of catchy rockers that will definitely appeal to fans of hard rock and hair metal.Ā This is one of the better releases of 2010.Ā Don’t miss this!

I feel the same Metal sentiment. Streets of Rock & Roll looks like “the album” that will be consistently played by me, especially throughout the upcoming Summer of 2010… why? It has “feel good” oozing from every crack and Hard Rock crevice!
Stone.
Agreed Rob, this is a very good album. The song writing is excellent, and the guitars especially sound great. Ron’s voice still sounds rich and powerful. You can tell that he is straining to reach a few of the really high notes, but that’s to be expected at his age. My one slight criticism is with the production of the drums. there is some great drum work on this record, but it is lost in the very weak-sounding way in which the drums were recorded and mixed. This is especially evident on “Hell or High water” during the passages where there are just drums and vocals. this song rocks plenty hard, but imagine how much better it could have sounded with a meatier drum sound behind Keel’s strong vocals. Anyway, this is a surprisingly good record — highly recommended, (for whatever my opinion is worth.) š
Thats great to hear…from the sampling of a couple of the tracks that I have heard so far, it def. sounds like cassic KEEL. As a Keelaholic it kicks ass that they have decided to not only get back together, but to record some new material-something all bands from that era should consider. Cant wait to pick up my copy!
