The KISS episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” airs this Sunday, February 21 at 8 pm (EST).
In the spirit of the KISS Army, when the ABC hit show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” told legendary rockers KISS about a family of needy KISS fans in Gainesville, Florida, who started a home-based, non-profit music school while their own home is falling down around them, the band heeded the call and launched the offense during their Tulsa stop on their North American KISS/Alive 35 tour.
The Wagstaff Family, who are huge KISS fans, flew to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to meet the band who played at the BOK Center in Tulsa on December 8 as part of their North American KISS/Alive 35 tour in support of Sonic Boom, their first album in 11 years.
The next morning KISS and The Wagstaff Family, on behalf of Gibson and Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, a non-profit music group, met at the Wilson Middle School in Tulsa to present $100,000 in instruments from Gibson to the school as well as their own school back home in Florida. Some of the students at the school in Tulsa even donned the famous KISS make up to show their support.

FRONTIERS RECORDS SIGNS THE LEGENDARY BAND FOR NEW ALBUM WORLD-WIDE
Frontiers Records is very proud to announce the signing of legendary rock band WHITESNAKE.
David Coverdale and band are gearing up for their latest endeavour. WHITESNAKE has already started composing new material that promises to deliver one of the finest chapters in WHITESNAKE’S career. “We are off to a very good start, with the new songs taking positive shape. It feels good, fresh & exciting,” explains Coverdale.
The next release already feels like a solid, natural progression to their last opus, the successful, critically acclaimed ‘Good To Be Bad’ album, awarded by the influential Classic Rock magazine as “Best Album of the Year” in 2008. “As always, we want to take it to the next level,” states’ Coverdale. “I feel that with the last album we achieved a strong WHITESNAKE ‘cocktail’ that comfortably embraced & mixed all the previous musical aspects & styles of the band’s history, while taking our identity a little further… all on one album…”
Born in 1977, WHITESNAKE have been among the most influential representatives of the their genre, having produced numerous rock music classics such as ‘Here I Go Again’, ‘Is This Love’, ‘Still Of The Night’, ‘Fool For Your Loving’, ‘Ain’t No Love In The Heart Of The City’ or ‘Walking In The Shadows Of The Blues’.
Coverdale said the production team for the new album will most likely be the infamous Brutal Brothers, or Los Bros Brutalos, who handled the recording of “Good To Be Bad”. “The new songs are in the very familiar and recognizable WHITESNAKE territory of soulful, bluesy, melodic power rock, with a couple of ballads thrown in for good measure… It can’t be a WHITESNAKE album without ballads, mate!”
WHITESNAKE have conquered the love and respect of the audiences all over the world with their driving shows and music. The new album promises to follow in the steps of a great heritage of solid and timeless songs.
Check out the new video from “I’m Alive” from Story of the Year. The band’s new album, The Constant is in stores now. (It is available at Target through 2/20 for a $7.99). For more information on Story of the Year, check out the band’s myspace page.
I have been a fan of Jason McMaster for a long time. From Watchtower, to Dangerous Toys, to Broken Teeth, I have pretty much enjoyed all of the bands he has performed in. With that being said, it is hard for me to believe that Broken Teeth has already matched the number of studio releases as Jason McMaster’s other band Dangerous Toys, but they have done just that. With their latest release, Viva La Rock, Fantastico, McMaster and company may have released the finest Broken Teeth record to date.
Viva La Rock, Fantastico sounds as if Broken Teeth walked into the studio and performed the same kind of high energy set that they do live. It is a no frills hard rock effort cram packed with crank worthy tunes to help you get your party started.
Viva La Rock, Fantastico explodes out of the gate with fast paced rocker “Blackheart”. The Motorhead like feel to this tune instantly had me wanting to play the air drums. “Exploder” delivers that one-two punch for this CD. If “Blackheart” didn’t reel you in, “Exploder” will get the job done with its breakneck rhythm and energetic riffs.
At this point Viva La Rock Fantastico is merciless with its high-speed tunes. You don’t get a moment to catch your breath until the song “Break the Spell”. This tune does a very good job of breaking up the pace with its AC/DC inspired riffs. This song may lack in originality, but Broken Teeth deliver it with such conviction, you will hardly care. McMaster’s razor-sharp vocals, and the riffs of Tuten & Beeson are damn near perfect here.
Jason McMaster has made no secret that he is a fan of Danko Jones. The song “Twister” has similar pacing as some of Danko’s previous work. Borrowed ideas or not, “Twister” is one hell of an infectious tune.
The guitar riff on “Back On The Road” is so insanely catchy that I consider this song, one of Broken Teeth’s best. I can’t this song out of my head.
Much like “Twister” before it, “Bullet” also that similar guitar rhythms as Danko Jones. This is another fun tune that I like a lot.
Danko Jones sings on the title track “Viva La Rock, Fantastico!”, as well as the following tune “Big Spender”. The end result are two classic Broken Teeth songs that make Viva La Rock Fantastico a must own record for all Danko Jones, and hard rock fans alike.
If you like your hard rock raw, and not over produced, you are going to love this CD. The songs are fairly short in length. What they lack in length, they deliver in punch. Viva La Rock Fantastico is one of my favorites of 2010. Don’t miss this!

Would she follow in her father’s operatic rock footsteps? Or would she venture into metal alongside her husband, Scott Ian? Pearl Aday did neither on her first, full length album, Little Immaculate White Fox. She followed her own road to rock, and it’s good.
With such a colorful musical upbringing, there was no way this lady wasn’t destined for rock greatness. Meatloaf is her father, whom she performed and toured with. That was followed by a stint as a back up singer for Motley Crue (call me jealous). And now Pearl is taking her well deserved position at center stage.
The first track, “Rock Child,” establishes all this and more. From being a “little girl living center stage” and “sleeping in a guitar case,” this song is a rock anthem about her life. She comes out wailing and comes out with a bang that makes you stop and take notice.
She follows that up with a rockin’ rendition of Tina Turner’s “Nutbush City Limit,” which is a perfect selection for her voice and would definitely make Ms. Turner proud.
Although it’s easy to spot all of the different musical influences in her music, the one influence that isn’t overly stated is the influence from her father. The one song that really has that Meatloaf vibe to it is “Whore.” From the harmonies to the musical and vocal phrasing, it just screams Meatloaf . Whether she meant to do it or not, it is quite an excellent homage to her father.
Pearl wasn’t messing around when putting together musicians for this album. Her band consists of guys from Mother Superior, who have backed The Rollins Band and U2. Husband Scott Ian plays guitar, and there are a couple of other tasty guitar players who also make appearances.
First up, Ted Nugent. Yeah, you just can’t go wrong with Uncle Ted. And the second you hear “Check Out Charlie,” there’s no denying that Ted Nugent guitar sound. The song is heavy and solid and Pearl proves that she can stand her ground in the rock world.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, Pearl can slow it down and croon a touching ballad too. With Jerry Cantrell’s guitar mastering on “Anything,” Pearl’s soft, sweet vocals blend perfectly with his soulful sound. It was the perfect way to end the album. Some may question ending an album with a ballad, but this worked well for me, like a moment of zen after rockin’ out for almost an hour.
Song after song, your ears are bombarded with great rock and roll. Sometimes it’s hard for me to really get into an album. With this one, there was no problem at all. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to it already and it hasn’t grown old. Why? Because it’s real. Rock is in her heart, her soul and her blood and it’s obvious when you hear her voice. There are plenty of decent rock singers and rock bands out there, but there are very few that make you feel it. Pearl makes you feel it.

Frontiers Records is pleased to announced the signing of a new female music star from Norway. Her name is simply Issa and she is destined to stardom in the Melodic Rock musical world ! With amazing looks and an equally amazing set of pipes, Issa has been working hard on her debut album under the coordination of producer Ronny Milianowicz (Saint Deamon, Primal Fear, Dyonisus etc.).
Issa is a 26 years old girl from Oslo, Norway, since she was 17 she started working her way into the music business as a ”demo” singer for different labels in studios all around Norway and at the age of 19 Issa won a competition with almost 150.000 votes singing the song Fade away written by Stian Aarstad, who was earlier a member of Dimmu Borgir. The song got released on a record in cooperation with tv channel Fox Kids.
Somehow people just love listening to this girl sing and she soon hooked up with Gaute Ormaasen from the Norwegian Idol Show touring with him. Issa has also performed on more Metal and Rock records such as Gaia Epicus and Illusion Suite. Issa has also played over 400 shows with Norwegian artist such as Postgirobygget, Dde, Jahn Teigen etc.
Musicians participating on her debut album include Uli Kusch on drums (Helloween, Masterplan , Gamma Ray), Nobby Noberg on bass (Saint Deamon, Dionysus, Nation), Peter Huss on guitars (Sinergy, Shining, and guitarist for world known Bosson “One In A Million Hit“) and Tim Larsson on keyboards (producer for Nick Lachey among others with Play Production).
Frontiers hopes to unleash this outstanding new talent to the unsuspecting public after the summer 2010. Stay tuned for more news.
Glam fans rejoice! One of the better hair metal bands of the 80s (although they weren’t as well known as the big names) has released the follow up to their exceptional debut CD some 20 years later, All Those Strangers. This album is everything that a growing (or well seasoned) metal fan needs in their collection.
On All Those Strangers, Vain make it sound like the late 80s all over again. The reason for that? This follow up disc to their superb debut album was recorded in 1991. It is finally getting to see the light of day thanks to Jackie Rainbow Records who dug it out of the vaults and decided to give it a shot. I am extremely grateful that they did.
Vain was a band that never got enough recognition. Lead singer Davy Vain has the ultimate glam voice, sounding like a cross between Taime Down (Faster Pussycat) and David Roach (Junkyard). Davy Vain is a master behind the microphone. His ability to hit the right key and the precise inflection at the perfect moment is impeccable. On songs like “Shooting Star”, “Love Drug”, and “Here Comes Lonely”, Vain shows his power and ability by sounding like a leader from the L.A. Strip circa 1988.
Exceptional vocals aren’t the only thing that All Those Strangers is blessed with. The guitar playing is incredible, highlighted by Danny West’s killer solos and James Scott enchanting rhythm. All Those Strangers has a lot of fast paced, bluesy moments, which only helps to catapult it to the upper echelon of greatness. It has a sound similar to early LA Guns and a touch of White Lion.
Every song on this disc is great. All Those Strangers is one of those rare records where you want to hear the next song as badly as you want to replay the last one. It’s that strong. Why this band never gained more attention remains a mystery to me. You can blame grunge and the death of the Hollywood Strip scene all you want, but these guys should have made a comeback a lot sooner.
The best song on the disc (by far) is also the power ballad of the record and it an amazing one at that. “Shouldn’t Cry” is the epitome of what late 80s rock aspired to be. If you slap on the headphones, put this song on, and sit in a darkened room with your eyes closed, there is no doubt you will be whisked back to high school days, thinking about your girl and wondering what tomorrow is going to bring. I’ve never heard a song that can transport me back instantaneously the way “Shouldn’t Cry” does. It’s magical.
Blessed with the ability to capture the sound of hair metal at the height of its fame, All Those Strangers is a glam fans dream come true. A must own for your collection, this disc will not disappoint, but it may make you yearn for the easier days of yesteryear. That’s a small price to pay for a collection of exceptional rock and roll.

“EYE 2 EYE – LIVE IN MADRID” RELEASES MARCH 19TH IN EUROPE & APRIL 6TH IN USA
Legendary studio wizard Alan Parsons returns with a live concert recording – Eye 2 Eye – Live In Madrid to be released March 19 in Europe and April 6 in the USA on Frontiers Records. Eye 2 Eye – Live In Madrid will come out in two separate configurations in CD and DVD format.
Eye 2 Eye – Live In Madrid was filmed and recorded at the May 14, 2004 show in Playa Mayor – Madrid, Spain. The location is a gorgeous plaza surrounded by historic buildings and is a legacy to a very fine performance from an outstanding group of musicians.
Alan Parsons’ career started aged 19 when he worked on The Beatles last two albums, Let It Be and then Abbey Road, an album recorded in the legendary London studios of the same name. He soon become a well respected studio engineer and producer, working for Paul McCartney, John Miles, The Hollies, Al Stewart and Pink Floyd among others. He is particularly renowned for his work on the Pink Floyd masterpiece Dark Side of The Moon. This classic album was recorded in 1972, and Parsons’ contribution to the album is legendary.
With The Alan Parsons Project, Alan went on to release 10 acclaimed studio albums but never performed live, even after several US and UK Top 20 hits. The Project ended in 1990 when Eric Woolfson and Alan went separate ways. Eric devoted his career to the musical theatre, while Parsons felt the need to bring his music to the live concert stage and to continue to record conceptual symphonic rock music.
As well as receiving gold and platinum awards from many nations, Alan Parsons has received 12 Grammy Award nominations for engineering and production. In 2007 he received a nomination for Best Surround Sound Album for A Valid Path.
Eye 2 Eye – Live in Madrid features an outstanding performance and for many fans this is the first opportunity to see Alan Parsons’ touring band. The musicians’ performances are superb throughout, and this could well be the definitive band line-up that Alan has toured with. An added treat is Alan singing lead vocals on three songs as well as all band members sharing the lead vocal duties.

Hard Rock Hideout caught up with Morgan Lander recently, the lead vocalist and guitarist for one of Canada’s, (and the world’s), finest Metal Bands – KITTIE. Morgan Lander has proven she can growl and croon with the very best in world of Metal Music, she also proved to be quite the sincere and friendly interview as well. Here’s what Morgan Lander of Kittie had to say:
HRH: So, Morgan, where in the world are you?
Morgan: Home! We, (Kittie) have been off tour since January 25th, (of 2010).
HRH: How was the tour in Europe?
Morgan: Awesome, we had a really good time.
HRH: One of the great things about being a world known band, is the opportunity to travel the world and see so many great countries.
Morgan: Yeah, it is a great experience to go to so many different countries and play in front of the fans around the world. We had some fans that traveled eight hours in Europe, just to come out and see us! That really means a lot to Kittie, having fans that will travel that long and far to see our show.
HRH: Kittie and God Forbid in the States, what can the fans expect?
Morgan: Fun! We know God Forbid real well, plus we never toured together, so it should be great. We have always talked about touring together, (with God Forbid), now it’s going to happen. We also share a mutual crew person.
HRH Note: Kittie and God Forbid kick off their 17 date North American Tour, on March 3, 2010, in Toronto, Ontario at the Opera House.
HRH: Any tour pet peeves you want to reveal?
Morgan: I, Kittie, we love everything about touring. Let’s see… there is one pet peeve that really bothers us all, it’s when strangers knock on the tour bus door! Anytime of the day it’s scary, especially at night. The tour bus is our home, our sanctuary, you just don’t go knocking on someone’s front door in the middle of the night! We don’t feel very safe just opening up the door to strangers that want to meet us. Besides, maybe I’m in my pajamas!
HRH: Is there a live album in the future for Kittie?
Morgan: No, yet we always wanted to do one. It’s definitely doable, we could work it out. If one was to happen, I would want it to be a CD/DVD combination. A future live album from Kittie would be an eye opener for the fans as well, it’s been ten years of Kittie! We definitely have the material and so much has changed with Kittie since the Spit In Your Eye video, which came out in 2000.
HRH: I agree, the transformation of Kittie, from (1999’s) Spit and it’s all out Extreme Metal to Funeral For Yesterday and your newest album In The Black, where you have become a melodic and heavy band, with still some nods to extreme, is just unbelievably great in my opinion.
Morgan: Thank you!
HRH: What country has Kittie not played yet, that is on your must list?
Morgan: It seems like we have played just about everywhere, I believe we never played Norway. If you can believe that! Norway it is.
HRH: What’s your favorite Metal album of all time?
Morgan: If you asked me this question five years ago, you would get a different answer! It changes, all the time.
HRH: It changes weekly sometimes too!
Morgan: Yeah, it can! It is ever changing. Metallica Ride The Lightning, Carcass Heartwork and Van Halen I and II.
HRH: With Ride The Lightning and Heartwork, enough said, those are powerhouses. Wow, Van Halen, thats old school.
Morgan: It’s what I remember growing up as a kid, listening to what albums my parents played, Van Halen I and II left a mark on me.
HRH: When you want to chill out, what music do you listen to?
Morgan: I have lot’s of interests, Kings of Leon, Silver Chair, and definitely Pantera! Believe it or not, I can really chill out to Pantera!
HRH: There’s nothing wrong with that. Who are your peer bands that you draw influence from?
Morgan: Kittie is inspired by everybody we tour with. Still there will always be Pantera. Not only were they the best Metal Band that ever lived, they were and still are really cool people, the very best.
HRH: If there was ever to be a movie made about Kittie’s career, what would the title be?
Morgan: Wow, cool question! It would have to be named after one of our songs, like Until The End or Into The Darkness. These two song titles capture the crazy times, ups and downs and the unknown we have experienced throughout our career.
HRH: What is the rowdiest venue Kittie has ever played at?
Morgan: Wow, there has been a few over the years! There was this place in Seattle, where the fire marshal came and closed the place down, there was way too many people that showed up. White Rabbit in San Antonio, Texas for certain! South America in general, Chile, Mexico and Brazil. The Spit In Your Eyevideo/DVD is a great example for fans to see us playing in a rowdy venue.
HRH: From everything that I’ve read and heard, Brazil has some hardcore and dedicated Metal fans there.
Morgan: They sure do!
HRH: What’s your opinion on the Grammy’s?
Morgan: They should be inviting us to go! Really, it’s a spectacle and a popularity contest. Having the Metal and Hard Rock categories is good, still they need to focus on Metal Music more, with more categories. The Grammy’s should be representing everything that’s out there, there is definitely room for improvement.
HRH: In the eyes of younger female fans, are you comfortable with being a role model or more an inspiration?
Morgan: A role model takes on a heavy burden to bear. Parents, friends, older siblings and extended family should be the real role models. I’m more comfortable with being an inspiration for younger girls. I want them to see in Kittie, the hope and strong female character that shows the ability to become self empowered.
HRH: At what point, did you and your sister Mercedes realize that Kittie was for real?
Morgan: Looking back on the last ten years, it all happened so fast, there never seemed to be time to process it all and reflect on what is really happening. It always felt like quick time and being caught in the middle these past ten years, like being in the eye of the storm! Truthfully, to pick out those moments where we felt that Kittie was real, was knowing we had released our first CD Spit. Having a tangible CD that people could buy was reality. Being a part of Ozzfest was another moment where we knew Kittie was real as well. We just need those moments to reflect on it all.
Doug Fieger, leader of the power pop band The Knack who sang on the 1979 hit “My Sharona,” has died. He was 57.
The band’s manager Jake Hooker says Fieger died Sunday at his home in Woodland Hills near Los Angeles after battling cancer.
Fieger, a Detroit-area native, formed The Knack in 1978. He co-wrote and sang lead vocals on “My Sharona,” which held the No. 1 spot for six weeks. Fieger said the song was inspired by a former girlfriend.
The Knack’s albums include “Get the Knack” and “… But the Little Girls Understand.”
In 2006, Fieger underwent surgery to remove two tumors from his brain.
HRH: Doug Fieger sings on the Bruce Kulick tune, Dirty Girl that is on the recently released CD, BK3. Our condolences go out to the Fieger family and friends!
Michael Sweet posted the following update on Stryper’s blog:
Wow! Typically (and historically) speaking, a new Stryper record comes out every 2-3 years. I’m pleased to announce shocking news – we are starting pre-production at the end of February (of this year) and we begin recording the 2nd week of March (of this year)! We will have a new record completed by early May 2010 and we will be planning for a release later in the year!!!
I don’t want to say too much at this time but I will write an update by next week describing what we’re going to do and I can tell you this – it won’t be what anyone expects and it will show a completely different side to Stryper that the world has never heard before. Let the controversy begin………..
The band is incredibly excited about this project and the label is equally as excited… Great things ahead!
Just in time for Valentine’s Day! Take notes everyone, Steel Panther finally answer the love and sex questions that fans submitted on Shockhound. Check it out!
