Don’t miss out on this great night of rock!
Multi-platinum selling artist Godsmack are preparing to release their highly anticipated album, The Oracle. With two consecutive number one albums on the Billboard Top 200 (Faceless and IV) and their latest single “Cryin’ Like A Bitch” rapidly climbing the charts, this is one album you do not want to miss.
Drummer, Shannon Larkin describes the sound of The Oracle as much more like the band’s self-titled album, “It’s going to be a monster. The drums sound incredible, Sully Erna’s voice is on fire it’s gonna be much more like the first record; much heavier, with simple, catchy guitar-driven riffs.”
To build anticipation for The Oracle’s May 4th release, Godsmack has unveiled a series of webisode’s titled “The Making Of The Oracle,” which follows the band through the recording process of their first studio album in four years. In the latest installment, the band takes their fans inside the studio and gives them an exclusive peek at two new tracks titled, “What If” and “Forever Shamed.” But gears quickly shift from music to sports when front man Sully decides to place a friendly wager on a New England Patriots vs. New Orleans Saints football game with producer/engineer Jeremy.
I realize we haven’t been around much lately (that’s subject to physical location by the way, because if you were near any one of us… we would in fact, actually be around each other). We’ve been holed up in the studio working out the finer points of a brand spankin’ new Warrant album… HOW EXCITING!!! We are all really amped up (pun intended) to get the new tracks etched in stone, or on tape, or on hard drive as it is these days and out to all of your ears! No concrete release date at the moment, but word on the street is (actually, word between the five of us… mostly in our homes, not so much on the streets) we’re looking forward to an early to mid-summer release… I guess it’s safe to say.
I am using a little bit of extra discretion by NOT leaking too much info just yet… some nasty people still like to steal, even though they know it’s just not right, and I’d hate to have to rewrite this whole thing in the off chance that some of the song titles, concepts, even the album title be stolen right out from under our very eyes should the evil-doers take a stab at breaking the eighth commandment. I will tell you that the band name is Warrant and what we are hoping is that this album will further solidify the sound of this band as being one that is consistently awesome! Okay that may sound a bit trite and grandiose but I’d like to believe it’s also true. We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel, (although infinite tread, titanium lined tubeless tires would be nice) our hopes are that we will satisfy the cravings of every rock fan that has ever heard a Warrant album and wished they were longer. Consider the new Warrant sound as merely an extension of what we’ve done to date with a little more seasoning behind it. Stylistically the new tracks are perhaps a bit more diverse than on previous releases. Of course there’s the killer ballad (do those two words really belong together?) or two, the up-tempo slam it out until you pass out rockers, and some stuff that harkens back to our 70’s roots, you’ll know it when you hear it and it will definitely satisfy! With Pat Regan skillfully helming the board (You should see him, he actually does “helm” when he mixes) as he did on “Born Again” the sound is pure Warrant and then some – thanks to the boy with the golden pipes, Robert Mason.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated as things progress, and keep checking in for new dates as they come in – we look forward to seeing you all this summer, wherever you are – and hopefully we’ll be there too, or else you can come to us depending on how far a drive it is. Scratch that just show up and we’ll have a great summer together!
I have always considered myself a casual Rob Zombie fan. I have enjoyed many (but not all) of his songs in the past. With that being said, I am having a lot of trouble getting into the newest CD, Hellbilly Deluxe 2. After spinning this CD a few times, I found moments of brilliance, incredible guitar work, and a catchy song or two. On the other hand, I found Rob’s over industrialized vocals to be rather bland and noisy.
I have no problem with profanity in rock, but the repeated chorus of “Rock Motherfucker” in the song “Sick Bubblegum” does not work for this rock fan. I guess I am in a place in my life where I don’t need to hear the profanities over and over again. I am sure the angst filled teenagers will love it. I don’t care for it.
I must admit that I found the song “What?” extremely catchy, and I have grown to like this one a lot.
The musicianship on this CD is stellar, and I get a kick out of Rob’s horror filled lyrics. For whatever reason, Rob Zombie’s vocals grate on my nerves on this CD. People who like Rob’s vocals may find more to like with Hellbilly Deluxe 2, as John 5, and Piggy D do a great job here.
I have tried repeatedly to listen to this CD, and I have struggled with it ever time. For this listener, Hellbilly Deluxe 2 is a macabre mess of distorted mayhem. The Zombieheads out there will probably love this. I found it to be above average at best.

About Halo Stereo:
Halo Stereo’s sound is most easily described as mainstream American rock with UK influenced melodies. When mentioning the music of Halo Stereo three topics come to mind: love, machines and the end of civilization. Based out of Nashville, Tennessee, these four musicians have tapped into a vein of pop rock music that is topped off with psychedelic lyrics and well-honed musicianship. It’s also loud. They are a melodically oriented rock act with well-written songs, poetic lyrics and head-turning musicianship.

“TAKE US ALIVE” WILL BE RELEASED APRIL 23rd IN EUROPE & MAY 4TH IN THE USA
EXTREME is releasing their ‘Take Us Alive’ live CD and DVD on Frontiers Records world-wide April 23rd in Europe & May 4th In USA. In 2008, following a 13 year hiatus, the band returned to the stage for their ‘Take Us Alive’ world tour, which encompassed 75 cities and multiple continents in support of their new and groundbreaking record, Saudades de Rock.
This recording captures EXTREME at the peak of their game with a renewed enthusiasm led by Gary Cherone’s spellbinding stage performance and powerful vocals, Nuno Bettencourt’s ferocious guitar, Pat Badger’s flawless bass and Kevin Figueiredo’s pounding drums not to mention the Extreme trademark, spot on, back up vocals.
This brilliant performance was recorded on the last night of their tour at the House of Blues August 8, 2009 in EXTREME’s hometown of Boston, MA . “We wanted to do something really special for our hometown fans that were there for us since the beginning… the club days,” states Nuno. “It was the last night of the tour and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than by bringing it back to where it all started… Boston.”
The concert showcases material from all 5 EXTREME albums and exhibits the bands broad stylistic abilities. Features include a blistering rendition of the Zeppelin-minded “Comfortably Dumb,” the scorching “Play With Me,” the funked-up “Cupid’s Dead” as well as the anthemic “Get The Funk Out.” Songs like their #1 hit “More Than Words” and the top 5 “Hole Hearted,” highlight the crowds enthusiasm and loyal support their fan base has had for this beloved foursome. “As much as we enjoy recording, for me, I’ve always loved playing live for the fans,” Cherone says. “We couldn’t wait to get out there and play for our fans.”
The DVD will contain 4 unreleased bonus videos from their latest record Saudades de Rock. Videos include the songs “King of the Ladies”, “Interface”, “Run” and “Ghost.” The videos were produced by Nuno Bettencourt. “This DVD/CD is a culmination of all the years we played together and the chemistry the four of us put out live,” explains Bettencourt.

To date, the Grammy-nominated EXTREME have released five albums, plus a greatest hits set—selling over 10 million records worldwide. They also achieved a #1 hit single, “More Than Words”—from their 1990 multi-platinum album Extreme II: Pornograffitti—on the Billboard Hot 100, which they followed with the Top Five “Hole Hearted.” Although these two acoustic hits brought the band great mainstream success, the band’s trademark sound has always been more a mix of hard rock funk—fueled by guitar virtuoso Nuno Bettencourt’s signature style, Gary Cherone’s resonant vocals and socially conscious lyrics, Pat Badger’s rock solid bass, and the hard hitting Kevin Figueiredo on drums.
The Independent Music Awards (IMA) program in USA selected the new Eldorado album as one of the five best hard rock albums of the year 2009. The recognition to the band now comes from Australia, from the MusicOZ awards. These awards are mainly centered in Australian bands, where the bands compete in different categories: rock, pop, jazz etc. Nevertheless, the Musicoz awards have a category for international bands and Eldorado song “The House of the 7 Smokestacks” is finalist as best international song.
Jesús: ”this is one of the first songs we composed for our new album. When we played it in our gigs the people connected incredibly with the song and we decided that “The House of the 7 Smokestacks” would be the first single of our new album. And we were right!
To receive this recognition from these different and reputed sources is very motivating as an artist, it pushes us to continue with enthusiasm and energy”
OVERKILL – with 15 studio and a few live albums released by Overkill since their 1985 Feel The Fire debut, these Thrash Metal legends originating from New Jersey, have unleashed their newest Metal carnage among the masses… IRONBOUND. Released on February 9, 2010 on E1 Music, Ironbound could very well be Overkill’s finest album to date. Judging from the speed and thrashtastic riffage, leads and solo’s of Dave Linsk and Derek Tailer, frenetic drumming of Ron Lipnicki, empowering bass grooves from DD Verni and of course, the trademark, hardened and vicious vocals of Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth, to walk away from Ironbound feeling Thrash fulfilled is a Metal understatement. The two opening songs – “The Green And Black” and “Ironbound” are how Thrash Metal albums are supposed to begin… like decisive missile strikes and extremely Metal monumental.
“Ironbound” just sounds as if DD and “Blitz” decided to not just remind the world they are Thrash Metal originators and icons, they have also pronounced and engraved their loyalty to a genre they helped create. “The Green And Black” offers such a diverse song structure, with it’s near epic length of over 8 minutes. “Endless War” capitalizes on the combination of lyrical imagery, (a soldiers dread, suffering and anguish of dying) and blazingly brilliant, Thrash musicianship. The sinister acoustic intro to “The Goal Is Your Soul”, only accentuates the impending Thrash heaviness that is to follow. This song’s message can/may be interpreted: reap what you sow by your actions/words and knowing one can lose their soul to damnation and the dark unknown, despite life’s blessings being fulfilled or not. This is Overkill’s reality check… as only they can deliver it.
“The Head And Heart” is emblematic of what Overkill’s Thrash Metal makeup is all about. A dark lined intro that submerges your ears into the Thrash assault of heavy and fast grooves with the punctuated vocals of “Blitz” that come across with hellish and angst ridden conviction. The more times I delve my senses into Ironbound, the more I become convinced of Overkill’s allegiance to the foundation of Thrash Metal. Overkill reaches into their underground roots if you will, which is conveyed by them with dominance in their playing, energy, spirit, sound and feel of Ironbound.
Metal truth be told, this is probably the first Overkill album ever, where I have been highly enticed by deciphering the lyrics! This is not to say Overkill never possessed smart, entertaining or attention grabbing lyrics in their past albums. Ironbound just carries with it, an increased intellectual approach to it’s lyrical messages, in my Metal opinion. DD and “Blitz” seemed to turn it up a notch with their lyrics and song writing and this entire Overkill unit has obviously approached this Ironbound album with a type of new found Thrash epiphany.
Lyrical meanings aside, Ironbound is equal to or more explosive, heavy, fast and mean as any Thrash album in Overkill’s iconic catalog. If Overkill were ever be remembered as Metal martyrs, they would be for the Thrash Metal cause they have valiantly forged, with blue collar blood, sweat and muscle for over 25 years. Overkill carrying and waving the flag of Thrash Metal, spanning across decades, is not something I or countless others can ignore. This Overkill lineup has cast their finest album together, Ironbound is a new Overkill Thrash Metal classic, proving once again, this band has not abandoned the Thrash Metal cause, their fans or themselves.
Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth – Vocals
D.D. Verni – Bass, Backing Vocals
Derek “The Skull” Tailer – Rhythm Guitars, Backing Vocals
Ron Lipnicki – Drums
Dave Linsk – Lead and Rhythm Guitars
Justin and Dan Hawkins have reportedly held talks about reforming rock band The Darkness. According to The Sun, the brothers are currently demoing new material in a Lowestoft studio. “If their stuff is liked by label staff they will attempt to reunite The Darkness,” said a source.
The Darkness scored a number one album with their 2003 debut Permission to Land, which included the singles ‘Growing On Me’ and ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love’.
Their follow-up disc, One Way Ticket to Hell… And Back, charted at number 11, but frontman Justin left the group in 2006 after a spell in rehab. Since leaving, he has worked on musical projects including British Whale and glam rock group Hot Leg.
During a Hot Leg concert in 2009, the Hawkins brothers reunited on stage for a performance of ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love’, sparking rumors of a full Darkness reunion.

UNITED STATES FORCES IS FUNDING MARCH CONCERTS IN IRAQ
HOWE to Perform From Upcoming New Release CIRCUS BAR
Releasing February 26th On Frontiers Records
Rock’s legendary voice, Brian Howe finds himself preparing for a history-making event and concert. Four March concerts are scheduled for Kuwait and Iraq and one is a “command performance” for the historic “Change of Command Ceremony”– Baghdad – March 12, 2010.
The Bad Company/Brian Howe/Kuwait/Iraq mini-tour is funded (and supported) by the U.S. Forces Iraq/Entertainment Branch. The “Change of Command Ceremony” marks the day the Iraq national police take partial command of Baghdad and it is the first phase of President Obama’s overall withdrawal of US troops – Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The Baghdad-based U.S. Forces Iraq had Bad Company’s Brian Howe on “their short list”. They called group’s agent, who told the band there was an offer from the Iraq Entertainment Branch requesting Brian and the band to perform four concerts in March. The call came however, just as Brian was making promotional plans for “Circus Bar”. Quick and simple – “Circus Bar’s launch” would be postponed for a week or two.
This out-of-the-blue “command performance” for the troops was an honor the band did not expect that day. The concerts in Kuwait and Iraq were not going to be ordinary concerts – there is a risk element in the mix. Brian and the band decided that even with their commitment to a heavy 2010 touring schedule, they could not pass up this chance of lifetime to give back to our men and women serving overseas.
“At first news, I could not believe what I was hearing – me going to Iraq? What are they going to do – parachute me in and ask me to sing on the way town to scare the Taliban? Seriously though, the boys and girls in uniform have been there for awhile without any real Rock ‘n Roll that I know of. I could not pass up the chance of doing concerts in Iraq. This time Baghdad is going to be rocked in a different way.
We are heading to a city where bombings occur on a daily basis. However, this time, it will be our explosive rock ‘n roll show that shakes Baghdad – Bad Company style.
The U.S. Forces division and their production expertise are well-known. This isn’t their first concert. Also, Jeff Thornton of Lone Wolf Entertainment is managing the dates along with my management/booking agency, Artists International Mgt. (Boca Raton, FL.). So I’d say we have our bases covered – Iraq and Baghdad here we come,” Howe said.
Supagroup has posted the following update on their blog:
It’s Supagroup here. Miss us? We missed you! To make up for our long and agonizing absence, we’re going to preview a bit of our new record “Hail! Hail! tomorrow, Friday March 5th at Noon CST. http://www.myspace.com/supagroup
Usually a band puts out a record and it’s at most one or two good songs and the rest a bunch of filler. We hate that! We would never do that to you. So, just to prove just how bad ass we are, we’re going to start by previewing the END of the record first – AKA “Side Four”. That’s right, “Hail! Hail!” is a four sided, double album of eighteen rock and roll gems. We’ll do the same kind of preview for “Side Three” next Friday, 3/12, “Side Two” on 3/19, and “Side One” on the 3/26.
I’m thinking we’ll leave the songs up for 24 hours, but if there’s enough interest, maybe we’ll leave them up for the weekend. Hope you like them! Remember to friend us on your facebook account here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Supagroup/106132465098, or if you’re into twitter, at twitter.com/supagroup.
We want to know what you think, so make a comment after you’ve heard.

SLIPKNOT drummer Joey Jordison will spend the spring and summer of 2010 pounding the skins for new labelmate Rob Zombie, who is embarking on a very busy touring schedule. Zombie said, “Joey is an absolutely crushing drummer and I am thrilled to have him as part of the Zombie family. His amazing skills promise to take the live show to a whole new level of insanity.”
Jordison also commented, saying, “I am honored, proud and excited to announce that I have joined the ranks as the new touring drummer for Rob Zombie. I’ve been a fan of Zombie’s since the beginning. I’ve toured with them and have always wanted to play for them. When John 5 called me up to ask if I knew any drummers I could recommend, I said, only half-jokingly, ‘Yeah, me!”
Jordison is universally recognized as not only one of the best drummers in hard rock, but as one of the most talented skinsmen in music, period. He will be sitting behind the kit for several appearances and tours throughout the year, namely the “Gruesome Twosome” tour, which features Zombie along with his longtime pal, Alice Cooper, which begins April 26 in Canada and runs through May 4 in Wyoming. Following that historic tour, Jordison will tour alongside Zombie as part of the 2010 Rock Star Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, which Zombie is co-headlining with Korn. That tour kicks off July 10 in San Bernardino, California and runs through August 14 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
“This show and set-list is mind blowing, and what better way to kick things off than the ‘Gruesome Twosome’ tour with horror-rock legend Alice Cooper,” Jordison said. “I want to thank all the Slipknot fans for their support and the Rob Zombie fans for welcoming me in. The Demonoid Phenomenon is on its way!”
Jordison will make his debut with Zombie at the 2010 Revolver Golden Gods Awards, held on April 8, 2010, at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. Zombie will be closing out the evening’s awards ceremony with what is sure to be a “must see” performance.

The much publicised reunion resulted in highly successful world tours, a double live LP and DVD (entitled Fantasia: Live In Tokyo) and an acclaimed studio album Phoenix in 2008 which debuted at number 73 in the Billboard charts in the USA and entered the top 100 in several European countries.
OMEGA will be released in the first pressing in digipak with one exclusive bonus track:
Finger on the Trigger; Through My Veins; Holy War; Ever Yours: Listen Children; End of the World; Light The Way; Emily (*); Still The Same; There Was a Time; I Believe; Don’t Wanna Lose You Now.
(*) Bonus track first pressing in digipak.

It seems to me that this year, as well as in years past, Europe has been kicking the United States ass when it comes to major music festivals. I decided to breakdown some of major festivals this year and see which ones provided the most bang for your buck.
The Download Festival is quite possibly the biggest music festival anywhere. The promoters for this festival understand that if you want to draw a lot of people, you have to have a major headliner. This year, the Download festival has more than one with AC/DC, Aerosmith, Megadeth on the same bill. Add Motorhead, Rage Against The Machine, and Stone Temple Pilots to the bill, and you have the makings of one incredible rock show. The lineup for this festival is already stout, and they will be adding more bands soon. Will Aerosmith implode before then? Who knows? I imagine the paycheck must be pretty fat for big rock shows. Maybe money has healed all wounds with them. I know that if I lived in Europe, there is no question where I would be that weekend. This festival drew 120,000 in 2009, and will probably exceed that in 2010.
The six festivals I chose are Download, The Stockholm Rockout, The Sweden Rock Festival, Rock on the Range, Rocklahoma, and M3. There are many more that I didn’t consider in this including Sonisphere and Hard Rock Hell. Any way you look at it, Europe has the U.S. beat on major rocks festivals.
Why is the United States getting the major shaft on major festivals? What can be done to turn this around? What are your thoughts about this? This rock fan is fed up!

Download Festival June 11 – 13
Donnington Park, Derby, United Kingdom
(196.35 – 244 prices include camping)
Rage Against The Machine
Them Crooked Vultures
Stone Temple Pilots
Bullet For My Valentine
Thirty Seconds to Mars
Lamb of God
Five Finger Death Punch
Stockholm Rock Out is a newer festival that is comparable to M3 in Columbia, Maryland. This festival has a solid lineup, although there are no real headliners. There are twenty bands performing over the two days of this festival, many of which you will not see perform in the United States. Is it worth $166 dollars? Probably not.
HRH: Grade C+
Stockholm Rock Out (April 30th – May 1st)
2 Day ticket $166.07
Dizzy Reed of Guns n Roses
Pretty Boy Floyd
Vains of Jenna
Killer Clan of F.U.N.
The Sweden Rock Festival has been around since ’98, and seems to get bigger and better every year. This multi-day festival has a good mix of hard rock and heavy metal. It would be this metalhead’s dream to see some of the band’s on this bill play live. With 4 days at $295.00, the price is pretty steep for the average rocker. I am guessing most folks will buy a single day ticket, and catch some of their favorite bands and live with it.
HRH: Grade A-
Sweden Rock Festival (June 9th – 12th)
4 Days $295.00
1 Day avg $165.38
Guns N’ Roses
Bachman & Turner
The M3 Rock Festival is a hair metal festival in Columbia, Maryland that is celebrating its second year. This is the only music festival that I attended last year, and will probably be the only one in 2010 as well. If you are really low on dough, you can cough up $35.00 for a lawn seat (an pray it doesn’t rain). The average price in the pavilion is $75.00. For 14 bands this isn’t a bad deal at all, although I admit there are a couple of bands on the bill that I could skip. Seeing the Scorpions on their farewell tour is a must! I am looking forward to this one!
HRH Grade: B+
M3 (1 Day $35 – $175.00) Saturday June 19th
Dizzy Reed of G&R
Rock on the Range has become the premiere modern rock festival in the U.S. This is the festival’s fourth year, and the festival promoters always manage collect a large amount of radio friendly bands. This year, I believe the festival lineup is a lot weaker than the 2009 bill which had Motley Crue, Slipknot, Alice in Chains, Avenged Sevenfold and Buckcherry but it is still a solid bill nonetheless. No single day tickets are available for this show, which is a complete disappointment to me. Is Godsmack or Rob Zombie a true festival headliner? I don’t think so. This festival typically draws about 60,000 over the two day event. My guess is, this year it will be less.
HRH Grade: C+
Rock on the Range (May 22nd & 23rd)
US $99.50 – US $119.50 (for 2 day ticket)
Three Days Grace
Theory of a Deadman
Bullet For My Valentine
Coheed & Cambria
Puddle of Mudd
Escape the Fate
Year Long Disaster

Wow, I understand that the folks at Rocklahoma nearly lost their shirts last year, but this new direction is not a good one. Something had to change, as the attendance was absolutely abysmal in 2009. AEG has taken this hard rockin’ hair metal festival and turned it into Rock on the Range part 2. In years past, Rocklahoma was a destination music festival. Now it is a regional one at best. They still haven’t figured out that you need a headliner to draw folks to a show. While I like ZZ Top & Godsmack, they really are not headliners. While I love Tesla and Cinderella, having them on the bill isn’t enough for me to travel to a multi-day festival. They at least got it right by moving the date to Memorial weekend, when it isn’t 105 degrees in Oklahoma. I am betting that they have alienated the majority of the folks who attended (or played) in this festival in the past. M3 will continue to grow as a result of this. Will the attendance be better than last year? Yes. Will it exceed 25,000 for the three days? Highly doubtful.
