The long-awaited new tunes from Jetboy are finally here! If you attended the M3 Festival in 2009, and saw Jetboy perform, you got a preview of the band’s first new tunes in several years. Jetboy was easily the best band on the second stage, and the new songs were quite impressive. I have been waiting to get my hands on them ever since.
This EP has three new studio cuts, and three live songs.
The opening track “Perfectly Wrong” oozes the style of classic Aerosmith, while maintaining the feel of Jetboy. This song is an absolute monster. If you aren’t hooked after hearing Fernie Rod and Billy Rowe dish out the riffs on this tune, your headphones must have a short in them.
“Going Down (Above The Clouds)” was one of my favorites from M3. This song has a cool southern rock vibe, with some super catchy lyrics.
“Dogs Gotta Roam” exudes L.A. sleaze from its hard rockin’ exterior. This song sounds like it is a lost track from 1988 without sounding dated. This is another cool rocker from the Jetboy camp.
“High Gear” and “Crank it Up” are from the hard to find 1998 CD, Make Some More Noise. The live version of “High Gear” absolutely rips. I love hearing Billy Rowe going to town on the slide guitar on “Crank It Up”. “Losin’ Streak” is a song from the band’s demo album, A Day In The Glamourous Life. It is one of Jetboy’s earlier tunes, and good to hear it recorded live.
If Off Your Rocker is any example of what a new CD from Jetboy will sound like, then I need a new album from these guys as soon as possible.
You can purchase “Off Your Rocker” EP at this link. Get it! You won’t be disappointed!!

JOHN 5 To Perform & Speak At The Grammy Museum
MARCH 31ST @ 7:30 PM
Guitar virtuoso John 5 will perform live followed by a Q&A about the studio, recording, touring and other topics at the Grammy Museum on March 31st. This event will include a signing session to end the evening’s excitement.
John 5 has compiled one of the most impressive resumes in rock. In addition to his own solo work, his commanding riffs combined with his composition skills have most recently earned him a coveted spot playing with rock icon Rob Zombie. Join us as he demonstrates his masterful techniques, breaks down his signature gear, talks about life on the road and songs from his latest album, Requiem.
John 5’s credentials include his famous stint with shock rocker Marilyn Manson, his current gig with Rob Zombie, but also includes diverse work with some names you might not expect, including Lita Ford, K.D. Lang, David Lee Roth, Meatloaf, Salt-N-Pepa, Lynyrd Skynyrd and many others. Surprisingly, to many, John 5 has an ardent love of bluegrass music and has the chops to prove it (just listen to “Sugar Foot Rag” from 2004 solo album Vertigo).
We have the opportunity to offer reservation seating for the first few rows of this event. This is first come first serve. If you would like to make a reservation please send an email to email@example.com and in the subject field put “Reserve Seats”. This has limited seating so reserve your tickets now!

Swing rock, modern blues, or ultra hip contemporary; whatever you want to call it, Poppy & The Usual Suspects is good music. Singing the modern day blues of hating work, wanting to be with a girl, getting dumped, and the desire to party all night, Poppy & The Usual Suspects have found a way to spice up the blues with some great guitar riffs, enjoyable percussion, and old fashioned crying over the pain lyrics.
Celestial Love Jones is an album that is hard to categorize. It’s filled with a blues rhythm but fueled by a drummer that would be perfect in the latest heavy metal rock band. Poppy & The Usual Suspects definitely rock hard, and that is made clear by the time the first guitar solo arrives on the opening track Can’t Find That Thing. Lead guitarist Julio Franco does a wonderful job executing an amazing solo that demands attention. It’s been a while since I’ve heard a deep guitar solo like this, and the fact that it is being played on a rockabilly blues album makes it all the more astonishing.
Poppy & The Usual Suspects are a different band and Celestial Love Jones is certainly a different album. Breaking away from the everyday repetitive crap that is churned out on modern radio, Celestial Love Jones is so unique, that at first listen, it’s hard to say if it’s lovable or not. There is so much going on in the music, that an immediate opinion is hard to form because there is too much to absorb.
The title track consists of heavy harmonica (played by Poppy himself) that competes with the guitar solo on the previous song for most amazing sound on the disc. This is one harmonica solo that was well thought out and deep. It is a true centerpiece for the song. The rest of the tune is basic 4/4 bar blues, but the wail of the harp pulls it all together and makes it a stand out song.
Poppy has a deep voice and works to his strengths. Rather than going for the high notes that he might not be able to pull off, Poppy stays within his range of low tenor and lets the guitars and harmonica take center stage. He is more of a backdrop to the wonderful world of music that is surrounding him.
The incredible guitar riffs and harp work continue throughout the album. If you’re a fan of guitar solos or excellent harmonica playing, this is the album for you. Mr. Boss Man is an exceptional chant to hating your job and telling your boss to stick it where the sun doesn’t shine. An ode to those slaving on the job everywhere, this is Poppy & The Usual Suspect’s opus for the working man. Even if you love your job, you will be singing along with this catchy riff.
Obsession opens with an ominous feeling of darkness and the lyrics solidify that this is a dark song of wanting something all the time, so much that it overtakes all other thoughts of the day. In this case, the obsession is a girl. Musically, this is the simplest song on the record, but it is so catchy that it’s worth nothing what a great song this is. An easy sing-along, Obsession will have you rocking out in no time.
Simply stated, Celestial Love Jones rocks hard. If you’re on the search for a different type of rock that is going to be new yet deeply satisfying, look no further. Poppy & The Usual Suspects are exactly what you want. Filled with exceptional guitar work, wonderful harmonica riffs, and a steady rhythm section that never misses a beat, Celestial Love Jones is an excellent disc.

Check out the video “Eyesore” from Janus. This song is on album Red Right Return that was released last September by Janus.
“Desire And Truth” is the follow-up to 2006’s “Demented Honour”, which received rave reviews globally and cemented Erol Sora’s reputation now as a lead vocalist as well as guitarist and ended up in melodicrock.com‘s Top 10 New Artists of that year.
To match the success of his debut album, the ex-John Lawton Band guitarist took his time to work on the songs for his sophomore record. His goal was to recapture the spirit and sound of great British bands from the late 70s/early 80s such as MSG, Whitesnake, Rainbow, UFO and Gary Moore. “Desire And Truth” is heavier and more guitar oriented than the debut, yet still very melodic in terms of vocals and songwriting. The album includes some of Erol’s finest work to date like the in-your-face opener “Taste of Rock & Roll”, a heavy bluesy Whitesnake influenced song. The aptly titled “The Storm Has Just Begun” is equally rocking and features a stunning guitar solo. The Schenker influenced Melodic rocker “Diamonds In The Wind” and the tongue-in-cheek “Rock & Roll Dog” are more examples of Erol’s diverse songwriting skills and influences. “When You’re Gone” a heartfelt ballad, and the haunting “When You Gonna Love Me” deliver the quieter moments of this fascinating new album by a fabulous guitarist and vocalist.
“Desire And Truth”, release date Feb 26th 2010, has already received some great feedback around the world, including an 86/100 rating in the Feb issue of the well respected Japanese Burrn! Magazine.

Twenty years after the release of the highly acclaimed ‘Damnednation’, JETBOY has completed work on their most recent project ‘Off Your Rocker’. ‘Off Your Rocker’ will be available on March 2, 2010 via iTunes and Amazon.com.
Best described as a blend of edgy rock and roll with a traditional blues based influence, ‘Off Your Rocker’ is the perfect vehicle to exploit the commanding vocal styling of Mickey Finn. The three studio tracks on the EP were written in mere days, further exemplifying the fact that the music is so entrenched in passion that the writing was clearly unforced Having been absent from the studio for some 20 years, JETBOY recorded ‘Off Your Rocker’ in a fully organic mode. The band played all in the same room together in a “live-style” format in an effort to duplicate the way the songs were written, all together, in a true 1970’s fashion where the band could feed off of one another’s energy.
No longer bound to the constraints of a major label like MCA records has afforded the band the freedom to make music their own way. However, freedom has its’ price, and that price in the recording industry is the pressure of getting into the studio and back out again as economically as possible. “Contrary to what people may think, pressure is great for creativity” says Billy Rowe.
‘Off Your Rocker’ was recorded without all of the luxuries and creature comforts that we had when we were with MCA. So, while there was a lot more pressure and no big spread in the greenroom, this disk captures the essence of what JETBOY has been about since day one. Down and dirty rock and roll that leaves you feeling edgy and excited every time you hear it. We wanted to rock you the old fashioned way, where every time you get in your car your first priority is making sure the stereo is turned up to 10, and to hell with the temperature gauge!”

Iconic rocker Bret Michaels, lead vocalist of Poison, reality TV star, actor, and solo musician, has just released the single “Nothing To Lose.” On the track Michaels taps into his melodic prowess and knack for composing epic ballads and delivers a song that will easily find a home amongst rock, pop and country music fans. Knowing that “Nothing To Lose” had potential to cross genres Michaels recorded it a number of ways; solo, acoustic, and as a duet with Disney star Miley Cyrus.
The concept of pairing the two household names may seem out of left field but the two come together beautifully on the track. “Bret and I had a great time in the studio together just hanging out and making music,” Miley was quoted saying. “He’s so passionate about music and it shows. I think it’s such a rad collaboration because it shows that two artists that seem so different on the outside can come together and organically create something that we are both proud of.”
With the Internet buzz around the track, Michaels sat down with US Magazine to set the record straight, for anyone who was questioning the lyrical content of the song and Miley’s participation on it, “I never sat down and said, ‘Look at the content. Look at the lyrical content… There is nothing I have to be defensive about,” he said, “I just thought it was a beautiful song.”
All five versions of the country-rock ballad “Nothing To Lose” are now available on CD at the singer’s website and the single featuring Miley Cyrus will be hitting iTunes Tuesday March 2nd. DEBUT ALBUM “TRANSITIONS” AVAILABLE NOW
September 2009 saw the release of SOMETHING TO BURN’S critically acclaimed debut album “Transitions” on Soft Drive Records, the record label founded by Stone Temple Pilots front man Scott Weiland. After playing a handful of shows last year with Stone Temple Pilots and some successful headlining shows of their own, SOMETHING TO BURN are gearing up to hit the road this spring with Fair to Midland and Karnivool. The tour starts March 23rd in San Antonio, TX and wraps up April 14th in Denver, CO.
Lead singer Greg Wayne, had the following to say about the upcoming tour: “Imagine a caged tiger…pacing back & forth…aching to get back out into the wild…dying to do what it was put on this earth to do. Well, SOMETHING TO BURN is that tiger and we are finally being set free this spring. I’d do everything I could to catch one of these shows if I were you…just sayin”
SOMETHING TO BURN – Norman (guitar), Greg Wayne (front man), and brothers Shawn (drums) and Jeff (bass) Ballard – have emerged from a pool of influences a lot deeper than your typical I-Pod shuffle button. They’ve been raised on music, not the radio, and they know how they want music to sound… And more importantly, they know how they want music to feel. From the classic rock upbringing of the Ballard twins-whose musical tastes were shaped by their seven older brothers and sisters, to Norman’s guitar god meets rhythm and blues fusion, and to the Maynard James Keenan meets Ray Charles vocal colors of Wayne, it’s all about what happens when their chemical backgrounds blend.
The music of SOMETHING TO BURN resurrects what we’ve been missing from our musical past, while forging boldly ahead into the future, and serves as the perfect soundtrack for the party that bridges the two. SOMETHING TO BURN bridges the gap between rock and roll’s heady past and its uncertain future on their debut album “Transitions”

Stratovarius released their first studio album Fright Night in May of 1989. Practically twenty one years to the month later, Stratovarius releases upon their fans, an album of songs that radiates Power Metal sophistication. Polaris, released on May 21, 2009, may not bestow the original Stratovarius lineup, nonetheless, this is as potent a lineup as there ever has been, in this bands history. Being an integral name in a select group of Power Metal pioneers, Stratovarius continues on without original guitarist Timo Tolkki for the first time on Polaris.
Step in new guitarist Matias Kupiainen. The melodic Power Metal guitar of Matias is standout, with his solos abundant on Polaris and not self serving. On Winter Skies, Matias lends his guitar to be a true asset to Stratovarius. Matias’s emotion for playing seeps from his guitar tone with riveting believability on Winter Skies. The same can be said for his talent during many, many moments onPolaris.
Lauri Porra as the new bass guitarist for Stratovarius fits right in alongside drummer Jorg Michael, bringing the melodious thunder that holds together these songs, especially on Blind and Forever Is Today, which can be equated as the two heaviest and fastest tracks on Polaris. Lead vocalist Timo Kotipelto can be considered to be the featured attraction for Stratovarius, never over powering yet powerful enough are his vocals to make any fan of Power Metal or Heavy Metal take notice.
On Polaris, the progressiveness of Stratovarius cannot hide, especially when a song such as Falling Star exists. The integration of Progressive and Power Metal styles that sometimes gets non mentioned doesn’t escape my ears, on a song so dynamic as Falling Star this never sounded more true. King Of Nothing carries out this same Power Metal progressiveness, with a saturated and brilliant overlay of synthetic sound from Jens Johansson’s keyboard skills. At 6:44 long, King Of Nothing borders on epic and plays out masterfully, without ever becoming an elongated power ride of nonsense.
Emancipation Suite I Dusk and Emancipation Suite II Dawn blend together with a thematic power ballad style that is reminiscent of 1970’s Hard Rock legends Styx, with Power Metal mechanisms all in place, of course. The vocals of Timo Kotipelto have pronunciations that remind me of Styx vocalist and founding member Dennis DeYoung, these two opening tracks are my best examples of this complimentary example.
Deep Unknown culminates Polaris as one of the best formulated and once again, mature, Power Metal albums that I have listened to in quite some time. Deep Unknown does not mask itself from any dark theme lyrically, it just spirals it’s way through a mixture of melodies and hooks that signify exactly what Stratovarius is… sophisticated Power Metal. Polaris is not going to grab you with non-stop and heavy Power Metal fury, nor will it have you wondering where the good parts are either. The element of surprise lies in it’s tantalizing progression toward the highs, while never letting in the lows.
Polaris has become a Power Metal album that I would recommend in the same sentence, along with Yngwie J. Malmsteen’s Trilogy and Helloween’s Keeper of the Seven Keys Part I. The significance for me lies within the overwhelming musical credibility that I hear from this Stratovarius lineup, in addition to the exemplary song writing and layering of music elements. It’s not always about the heavy in Power Metal, the hardness, diverse tempos and progressive articulation is what has won me over with Polaris.
