Bret Michaels, who appears in People Magazine’s World Most Beautiful People of 2010 Issue this week and ironically in the Scoop section because of his Brain Hemorrhage, is being treated at Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. Barrow is among the world’s leading neurological centers and is the home of the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center.
In the days following Mr. Michaels’ hospitalization, due to a subarachnoid hemorrhage, there was a lot of speculation as to where Mr. Michaels was being treated. Due to the severity of his life threatening condition, the instantaneous way in which the hemorrhage presented itself and respect for his family his location was not confirmed to the media. There is a seven to ten day period that is extremely critical in which multiple tests are conducted to detect the source of the bleeding.
“There is no doubt that Mr. Michaels’ condition is serious. We are treating the subarachnoid hemorrhage, which caused his severe cranial pain.” states Dr. Zabramski who has been a top neurosurgeon at Barrow Neurological Institute since 1986 and serves as the Chief of Cerebrovascular Surgery and Director of Clinical Neurosurgical Research at the center and is leading Michaels’ team. Zabramski continues “Mr. Michaels will continue to undergo testing considering we have hit a few roadblocks including hyponatremia, severe cranial and back pain suffered from blood drainage, an emergency appendectomy performed a week earlier and a lifelong history of Type 1 Diabetes. However, “Bret’s sheer will to live and fully recover is undeniable.” He has an unbelievable fight in him and told me what kept him alive at the moment of the hemorrhage was that he ‘did not want his family to wake up and see him lying unconscious in the middle of the floor.” It was a combination of Bret’s fight to stay conscious during the hemorrhage and get to the emergency room, and the immediate medical attention provided by our staff at Barrow that enabled us to stabilize his condition.”
At this time Barrow neurologists and neurosurgeons will be having a press conference at 12pm Tuesday to discuss and update his condition, treatment and prognosis in full detail. Those wishing to attend the press conference should arrive at Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center at 350 W. Thomas Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85013 prior to noon on Tuesday.
Media should enter the hospital through the Marley Lobby, which is located on the northwest corner of Third Avenue and Thomas Road in Phoenix. Parking is available in the Third Avenue Parking Garage, which is located across the street from this lobby. All media will need to check in at the Marley Lobby doors with a hospital PR staff member. Media will then be escorted to the room in which the news conference will take place. For additional information or clarification, the media can page Carmelle Malkovich at 602-746-9303 on Monday.

“Let Me Hear You Scream”–the album’s first single–is already Top Five (#5) on the Mainstream Rock Chart and Top Ten (#9) on the Active Rock chart in only its second week on the charts. The fist-pumping anthemic song had its world premiere, during a prison riot scene, on “CSI: NY” Wednesday, April 14. Next month, OZZY will shoot a video for “Let Me Hear You Scream” with famed director Jonas Akerlund. SCREAM was produced by OZZY and Kevin Churko, both of whom did the same honors for OZZY’s 2007 worldwide million-seller Black Rain, the album. The multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer recorded most of the album at his Los Angeles home studio, The Bunker, and co-wrote all the songs, primarily with Churko. Notably, the album marks the first appearance of OZZY’s new guitar player, Gus G. OZZY’s band also features bassist Blasko, drummer Tommy Clufetos and keyboardist Adam Wakeman.
OZZY will also embark on an 18-month world tour (dates TBA) in support of SCREAM, with news about OZZFEST to emerge THIS Friday night, April 30

Brooklyn, NY hard rockers, Black Water Rising released their stunning self titled debut digitally a few months ago. The band recently signed with Giddy Up! Records, and released their debut on CD in March. If you never checked out Black Water Rising, take notice now! I have seen people compare Black Water Rising to Black Label Society mixed with Led Zeppelin & many more. It doesn’t matter what band you compare BWR to. The important thing you must know is this CD is good…..DAMN good!
If you aren’t sold by the searing opener, “The Mirror”, then “Brother Go On” [see video below] will likely knock you over the head. Both songs are two of the strongest opening cuts that I have heard from a new band in a long time. “Hate Machine” is a real grower track that has a stoner rock groove, with some retro 70’s guitar thrown in for good measure. There are times when Rob Traynor reminds me of Layne Staley on this song. Very cool!
Johnny Fattoruso blasts out some awesome riffs on “Black Bleeds Through”. This is another killer tune that deserves massive radio airplay! It is nearly impossible to listen to “Blessed” without going into a foot-tapping, head-banging glee. I thought the hiss & pop effects of playing an old LP was a pretty cool touch to open up “No Halos”. This song is a catchy rocker that gets in your head and wont let go.
The best song on this CD has to be “The River”. Johnny Fattoruso sounds as if his soul was possessed by Tony Iommi on this tune. “The River” is packed with outstanding heavy riffs that put a big smile on this metalhead’s face. I want to hit replay every time I listen to this song.
Overall, I am quite extremely impressed with Black Water Rising. Rob Traynor is one of the best new vocalists to hit the hard rock scene this year. Johnny Fattoruso’s fat riffs, and Oddie McLaughlin’s heavy bass grooves truly deliver one amazing listen. Don’t miss out on one of the best CD’s of 2010!

Massive riffs, noisy guitars and a keen sense of melody push Fever into the hot zone of 2010 rock-metal discs. The British band’s visceral assault bulldozes most of the feeble lyrics, except in the case of power ballad Bittersweet Memories, a valentine that didn’t dodge Bullet’s high-school smarm. — Edna Gundersen, USA TODAY

Test results indicate a setback in Bret Michaels condition a side effect from the brain hemorrhage called hyponatremia a lack of sodium in the body which leads to seizures.
Bret Michaels was the topic of Larry King Live as Donald Trump Jr. and other celebrities weigh in on Michaels condition. Due to the severity of his condition, Bret Michaels continues to remain hospitalized in an intensive care unit at an undisclosed hospital. He remains in critical but stable condition according to his doctors. Last night on Larry King Live Bret Michaels condition was the topic on the show as Donald Trump Jr., Daryl Strawberry, Sanjay Gupta and Carlos Diaz discuss concerns, lasting affects as well Michaels as a person. Donald Trump Jr. stated that “Bret is very likeable guy, down to earth and a solid person.” He stated out of all the people from “Celebrity Apprentice,” I may have had the best kind of off-camera relationship with him over the three years. Trump Jr. also says he is a great father and rocker and concerned for the singer’s health. Strawberry who starred on Celebrity Apprentice with Michaels says he is a good friend on and off camera. He is a hard worker and is a creative force on the show. Without a doubt he lives a crazy lifestyle and he wishes him a speedy recovery. Carlos Diaz who is a Radio Host and Entertainment Correspondent says Michaels is “a star that transcends several generations.” He has reinvented his career, both on “Rock of Love” and “Celebrity Apprentice as well as his music. Dr. Sanjay Gupta is CNN’s chief medical correspondent says a subarachnoid hemorrhage is an aneurysm in one of the blood vessels. He stated about 10 percent of people don’t survive. He obviously survived that. About another quarter of people don’t make it through the first couple of days in the hospital and 30 percent make a full recovery.
Michaels medical workup demonstrated findings of a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a type of stroke that causes bleeding in the fluid-filled spaces around the base of the brain. It presents itself suddenly as the sound of a loud gunshot or thunderclap at the back of the head causing severe cranial pain and muscle spasms. Many people are speculating Michaels head injury suffered from a prop striking the singer at the Tony awards last June is the cause. Additional studies are planned throughout the week to hopefully detect the exact cause of the rupture. Coupled with the fact that Michaels is a lifelong Type 1 diabetic and has recently undergone emergency appendectomy surgery while on tour in San Antonio, he will remain monitored closely by his medical team to make sure no complications occur from the diabetes.
The most common cause of this condition is a spontaneous rupture of a cerebral aneurysm, however 15 to 20 percent of spontaneous episodes of this hemorrhage are found to have no cause. Michaels has undergone a continuous series of tests while in the ICU including angiograms, CT scans, MRI’s and transcranial dopplers (TCD’s). Doctors state Michaels is very lucky as his condition could have been fatal. With further testing and rehabilitation, they are hopeful that Bret will gradually improve as the blood surrounding the brain dissolves and is reabsorbed into his system, which can be a very painful recovery and take several weeks to months. Michaels remains under 24-hour observation in the ICU and is in positive spirits. He is responding well to tests and treatments. Even though today was a minor setback Doctors remain hopeful for a full recovery and plan to release more specific information next Monday.

JON OLIVA – has made quite the mark on the music industry. Since 1978, Jon Oliva has been involved in making music… after all, as you will later find out, Jon Oliva is a man of music. A founding member, along with his late brother Criss Oliva, of the influential and legendary Progressive Metal Band -Savatage. As Jon Oliva will elaborate, later in this interview, Savatage has since been transformed into the ultra world popular – Trans Siberian Orchestra, in which Jon Oliva is most personally proud of.
In the midst of of Jon Oliva’s music career, he has also founded and nurtured his Heavy Metal brainchild known as Jon Oliva’s Pain, with four studio albums released since 2004. Jon Oliva’s Pain has recently released a fourth studio album on AFM Records titled, “Festival”, this very same month on April 13th. Recently, Jon Oliva took the time from his busy schedule to talk to Hard Rock Hideout about his terrific new album and the music he has created and loves. Here’s what Jon Oliva had to say:
HRH: Jon, I can’t stop listening to “Festival”, I’m really hooked! An incredible album you made here!
Jon Oliva: Thank you, “Festival” really is an album that grows on you each time you listen to it.
HRH: As with all of the music you have created or helped to create, it’s always been a listening experience for me. “Festival” continues this trend. How did you prepare your thoughts and ideas for this new and amazing album?
Jon Oliva: There’s a lot of little things in the background. The last album, (“Global Warning”/AFM Records), was an experimental album and I pretty much got that out of my system. I wanted to play guitar, so when we were on tour in Europe, “Festival” was written. We had an amp and a 4-track riding around Europe! I wanted a darker, old school Savatage type album, a back to basics without losing any weird stuff that is heard in the songs.
HRH: “Festival” showcases your musical diversity, all the while maintaining a dark, hard and heavy style. Were there any last second double guessing happening while in the studio?
Jon Oliva: Not really, there was a plan. I was confident when we went in and prepared. “Festival” is different from the last three (John Oliva’s Pain) albums, every musical thing was written and ready to go. There was no searching for parts, no searching for keyboard parts, no stress. This was a very happy album to make.
HRH: The song “Now” has an uncanny Classic Rock feel to me, with a tad of ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) flavor and still it’s Jon Oliva’s Pain. Is that accurate for me to state?
Jon Oliva: Sure! A big influence on me is ELO, I love that band! Back when I was eighteen years old, my bother Criss and I wrote the chorus for this song in grandmas garage. After all those years, I pulled the tape out, wrote a new verse for it, inserted the chorus and this song, “Now”, is the result. “Now” was half written in 1978!
HRH: That’s really cool, the story behind “Now”.
HRH: “Death Rides A Black Horse” gives me goose bumps, such an epic power it delivers. How did this song come about?
Jon Oliva: From a nightmare. Lyrically based on nightmares are all my songs. I saw that guy with the long scythe, it was death coming through the clouds and he had fire in his eyes. What I remember from nightmares I elaborate on it, lyrically. I have nephews in the military and their slogan is this song title, so I thought it was a great name for a song! I wanted to do it for them, adding their slogan as the song title. “Now” and “Lies” are two songs not based on a dream or nightmare though. “Living On The Edge” is about being chased by something I cannot see, all I am seeing is blackness ahead of the lines in the road. The storyteller comes out in me through songs, I just improvise the ending of these nightmares I have.
HRH: It’s amazing and unique, these nightmares you have that eventually become songs.
Jon Oliva: Since I was a kid, I always have nightmares, every night. As a kid, I would watch “Creature Feature” (a Saturday morning/classic horror movie matinee on television) and my mom would warn me, “you’ll have nightmares if you watch this stuff!” My brain is having a party up there and this is what comes out in my sleep!
HRH: Each time I listen to “Festival” I get the perception that there is no slowing down Jon Oliva. How true is my perception?
Jon Oliva: Very true. There is a lot going on in my life. I am creating as much music as I can, while I can still do it. I’m not twenty one anymore and eventually it will all stop. I still have a lot of stuff on tape to pull out and work on. I like to get up and get out there! As I get older, I have acquired a sense of urgency. Trans Siberian Orchestra helps, I get lots of music through them that doesn’t suit John Oliva’s Pain, the Hard Rock and heavy side of Pain. The soft and more tender music I write suits Trans Siberian Orchestra.
HRH: Is there a North American tour on the horizon for Jon Oliva’s Pain?
Jon Oliva: I’m looking at a mid September to late September window, with a few dates in the Northeast and I’m working on setting this up. Washington D.C., Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York would be the area for these dates. The economy is bad and the drinking age is twenty one. The club scene is killed with the drinking age of twenty one. The clubs lose fifty percent of their business with twenty one being the drinking age.
HRH: I always wonder, how much of a deterrent to alcohol this drinking age of twenty one really is.
Jon Oliva: It’s not a deterrent. When we were young, you would still gather somewhere to drink and play music.
HRH: Yeah, my buddies and I would set up in a remote field in the woods, crank up some Metal and let the keg beer flow!
Jon Oliva: Exactly! That’s what we did.
HRH: Who were your musical influences growing up and even now?
Jon Oliva: The Beatles and ELO. ELO’s music is so melodic. I saw ELO in concert in Florida, sometime in the late 70’s. ELO had this enormous spaceship on stage, it was like going to see Alice Cooper for the first time!
HRH: Was it the “Out Of The Blue” tour?
Jon Oliva: I believe it was. It was around 1977 and 1978.
Jon Oliva: Theater Rock is what I’ve always been into and inspired by. People get bored at a concert without entertainment on stage, you might as well stay home and listen to the album or CD instead. If you are really into ELO, Klaatu is a band you should look into. I’ve always loved this band’s music. They were a Canadian Progressive Rock band. Klaatu is named after a character in the science fiction movie “The Day The Earth Stood Still”.
HRH: Thanks Jon, I’ll have to definitely check out Klaatu.
HRH: Which instrument, that you play, gives you the most satisfaction?
Jon Oliva: The piano. There’s nothing like playing a real piano and singing. The guitar also, it’s a weird combination. I can get real emotion on the keyboards, yet it transposes better on guitar. Still, the touch and feel on a piano is something special.
HRH: Will Trans Siberian Orchestra return with a new Christmas theme in the future?
Jon Oliva: I’m not sure, it’s Paul O’Neill’s decision. Paul has lot’s of projects set up that he wants to get out.
HRH: Jon, you have seen and done it all in the world of music. What moment or moments in your career make you the most proud?
Jon Oliva: Becoming so successful with Trans Siberian Orchestra. Trans Siberian Orchestra is Savatage. We worked very long on Savatage and Trans Siberian Orchestra put a cap on Savatage, it’s all the same people. It was always as if we never could get over the hump, (with Savatage), where Savatage was a big name band, by changing the name to Trans Siberian Orchestra, it broadened the whole thing. Trans Siberian Orchestra was a natural progression to go to, there are no limitations, many musicians and singers are featured while the nucleus of Savatage is there. We have the same writers in Paul O’Neill and myself. The name and versatility of Savatage changed.
Living on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and trying to survive since 1980, we, (Savatage), would get beaten down and people would stomp on us! Then we got back up for another ten rounds with Mike Tyson and finally delivered that Buster Douglas punch with Trans Siberian Orchestra! Trans Siberian Orchestra is the biggest band, if not, one of the biggest bands in America today, two shows sell out a day! Currently, “Beethoven’s Last Night” is on tour.
HRH: Is music all about life or is life all about music?
Jon Oliva: Music is all about life! Music is personal experiences, desires, dreams, loves and losses. Music is life with a tune!
New York Rocker Queen V has released a new video, “Revolution Baby” in support of her latest CD, Death & Glory that is available through CD Baby. Check out the clip below.
Pete Evick from the Bret Michaels Band sent out the following letter about Bret Michaels:
Hey everyone. Much like Janna, I rarely speak out about Bret other than
my own personal facebook comments. But I wanted to reach out to all of you
and let you know that we who are closest to Bret, are overwhelmed with the
amount of love and well wishes he is receiving. I know that everyone is
waiting for some OFFICIAL news, however we just cant give any right now.
This is a time for family, a time for healing and a time for love. It is
out of respect first and foremost for his precious daughters, their mother
and his immediate family that none of us say anything. The press has a way
of taking information and doing what they want with it. At a critical
time, we who care deepest for him, refuse to offer any information that
can be delivered incorrectly. Imagine if your children or parents read
something even slightly not true about you or your health on the internet.
Its not fun. What I can tell you is that when I was invited into Bret’s
world, over 5 years ago, I was introduced to a new level of strength, and
loyalty. So much that I had to rethink my whole life and how I do things.
I thought I was a hard worker. I didn’t understand that a man
10 years older than me, battling a life long war with Juvenile Diabetes,
more fame than most, and more money than he knows what to do with, could
possibly get up everyday with more drive and passion than myself. I was
wrong! I didn’t understand what it meant to be a loyal friend. The kind
that would do anything you ever needed without even asking why, what, who
or where. Bret is the kind of guy that wakes up everyday and treats it
like it is his first, and may be his last. He is full of passion, energy
and love. But most of all, he is a survivor. Against the odds of a
critical music industry, or battling a crippling disease, over and over
again Bret has come out on top and ahead of the game. I personally expect
nothing less from him in this situation.
With all that being said, all Bret has ever really wanted to give is the
gift of music. All he has ever asked for is the gift of music. We have
been hard at work on the upcoming CUSTOM BUILT record. To keep my own
sanity in this last week, I dove heavy into the music. One of my personal
favorites in a track called WASTED TIME. It is full of pure BRET
MICHAELS emotion and heart. While not the final mix, I took some of the
vocal we have laid down on the bus during the tour and comped
together a piece of NEW MUSIC for you all. I believe all the fans will
agree with me that this teaser is an amazing song. I hope you all use it,
like I have this week, to remind you how amazing my great friend Bret is.
Cheers to all
Much love to Bret
