Audio Samples of Stryper’s The Covering

If you have been keeping up with the latest Stryper news, you probably already know about the band’s up and coming album, The Covering, which will feature Stryper covering some classic metal and hard rock that influenced their career.  Stryper front man Michael Sweet revealed via Twitter a link on Stryper’s site with  audio samples from six of the albums 13 tracks.

Quite honestly, I don’t typically care for covers albums, but judging from the samples below, this one looks to have some potential.  Check out the audio samples below.

Set Me Free From Sweet
Blackout From the Scorpions
Heaven and Hell from Black Sabbath
Carry on my Wayward Son From Kansas
The Trooper From Iron Maiden
On Fire From Van Halen

Excellent… I think it’s a brave thing to do. I could listen to a STRYPER album with 100 covers. I’d love to hear them do “The temples of Syrinx” by RUSH… STRYPER are simply ‘one of a kind’.

It’s great to see people leaving behind artificial distinctions like “Christian” and “Secular” when it comes to music styles. Like someone else said (I think from P.O.D.) “if you’re a Christian and a plumber, does that make you a Christian plumber?” It’s absurd. Stryper are excellent musicians who happen to be Christians. They’re playing music by other excellent musicians, and the lyrical content doesn’t contradict their faith. Also, you’d be surprised how many Christians play in so-called “secular” bands (e.g. Megadeth, Alice Cooper, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, U2, P.O.D….and the list goes on). If you’re not telling people to go hurt themselves, hurt others, sacrfice animals to satan etc., a particular style of music doesn’t make it “secular” or “satanic”. Metal is metal, and metal is good ^_^.

Great stuff there Rob thanks for the info. Can’t wait for this one to come out Huge Stryper Fan here. Micheal defiantly still has the pipes for a song like Blackout and On Fire.
