DUFF MCKAGAN has split from JANE’s ADDICTION, five months after joining the band. Reuters reports PERRY FARRELL, DAVE NAVARRO and STEPHEN PERKINS issued a statement via e-mail, thanking McKagan for helping them write songs. The group e-mail stated, “We love the songs we worked on with him -– and the gigs were a blast -– but musically we were headed in a different direction. From here, Duff is off to work on his own stuff so we wish him all the best.”
In a Twitter posting, Farrell wrote, “Jane’s wishes Duff much luck with his band LOADED. What a fun time we all had working together. Look out for his record and tour this fall.” Blabbermouth.net reports Loaded recently finished recording its new album at a studio in the Seattle area.
Five months ago, McKagan said he joined Jane’s Addiction because he needed to occupy himself while VELVET REVOLVER was searching for a new singer. In an interview with Seattle Weekly in April, the bassist said, “Velvet is in a period of downtime right now, and perhaps we will one day get a new singer. For now, though, I have to look at opportunities when they are presented.”

In an official band statement made this afternoon, KAMELOT have postponed their North American tour, which was set to begin this week:
“Hi Kamelot Nation.
As many of you know, Roy has fallen ill and could not make the North American tour. We have been rehearsing like madmen here in Tampa — the band is tighter than ever and Michael from Circus Maximus is truly an amazing singer; if there is one male vocalist in this world who is on par with Roy, it is Michael! However, after today’s rehearsal, we all decided that we do not feel right about doing the North American tour as anything less than a 100% Kamelot Experience. We appreciate that many fans have waited more than 2 years for new material and to see us perform together. Our new album, Poetry for the Poisoned represents a labor of love from us, and to present it at anything less than full strength seems a disservice to all involved.
Though we will suffer financial losses on this late hour cancellation, we still feel it’s the right decision for us as a band to make – we regret disappointing all those who worked so hard to shape this tour, and especially those fans who were still so willing to come through and support us despite Roy’s absence. We are humbled by that type of support, and we sincerely hope that our return in full form Kamelot strength will be more reward for your unwavering loyalty! We will reschedule all shows in the near future, once Roy is able to return. To thank Michael for his effort, the band will still appear at the sold-out Progpower Festival, as a one off show with him and many special guest singers from the festival. Again, we want to thank all of you for your amazing support!!
Best regards, Kamelot Members”

Swedish guitarist Magnus Karlsson (PRIMAL FEAR, STARBREAKER, LAST TRIBE) has finished laying down his parts for the forthcoming solo album from Ralf Scheepers of German power metallers PRIMAL FEAR. According to a posting on the PRIMAL FEAR web site, “Magnus delivered his guitar parts on some songs of the album and did a killer job as always. Just some more lead guitars are missing by some other great players and we’re ready to mix the album after the forthcoming [PRIMAL FEAR] European tour!”
As previously reported, powerhouse American vocalist Tim “Ripper” Owens (HAIL!, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, BEYOND FEAR, JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH) will make a guest appearance on Scheepers’ forthcoming CD. Owens will be heard dueting with Scheepers in the track “Remission Of Sin”. Other guest musicians expected to appear on the album include Swedish multi-instrumentalist Snowy Shaw (DIMMU BORGIR, THERION, DREAM EVIL, KING DIAMOND, MERCYFUL FATE) on drums, Sander Gommans (AFTER FOREVER, HDK) on guitar and PRIMAL FEAR‘s Mat Sinner playing bass on the entire LP and producing. A photo shoot with Alex Kuehr for the CD’s cover took place in early July in Germany.
In a recent interview with the “Metalzone” radio show (web site) with Kostas Purevil Kyriakakis and Helena Mihailidou, Scheepers revealed that his upcoming solo album will include a remake of his song “Saints Of Rock” from Scheepers‘ pre-PRIMAL FEAR band TYRAN PACE and a cover version of “Before The Dawn’ from JUDAS PRIEST. “‘Saints Of Rock’ is gonna be, of course, a little bit more modern than it was [when the original version was recorded] in 1986,” he explained. “I mean, right now we have much more possibilities to make songs sound a little bit more modern, starting with the drum sound and the bass sounds — having a much more distorted sound.” He added, “I think ‘Before The Dawn’ pretty much is a [straight] cover — [there’s] just a little more orchestral things going on, I have more strings in the song compared to the JUDAS PRIEST [original]. Back then there wasn’t much strings going on. I think they even have a piano [in the original version], which I don’t have. I have strings and I have this atmosphere stuff going on. Vocal-wise, I just added a harmony at the last bridge before last chorus, I added a harmony which is not on the original, but that’s the basic difference.”
In a June 2010 interview with Metal Assault, Scheepers stated about the musical direction of his forthcoming solo CD, “It’s more diverse [than PRIMAL FEAR], you can say.” He added, “In the beginning I had those ballads that we couldn’t use for PRIMAL FEAR because they might be too mellow, but now we’ve started to write together on it. Basically, it’s my ideas on it, but I have a great team, with Mat and Magnus and some other members — Sander [Gommans], the ex-AFTER FOREVER guitarist, helped me a lot. It’s a good variety — from the hardest to the softest tones.”
PRIMAL FEAR recently released a new live DVD, “16.6 – All Over The World” (recorded in various locations between September and November 2009), and a live CD, aptly titled “Live In The USA”.

Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the signing of VEGA, a very exciting new Melodic Rock band from the UK, featuring former KICK vocalist Nick Workman and the successful and respected songwriting partnership of Tom and James Martin (House of Lords, Ted Poley of Danger Danger, Khymera, Sunstorm to name but a few), together with drummer Dan Chantrey.
VEGA are set to bring back the reputation of British Melodic Rock music with a strongly original sound approach that while obviously influenced by the genre’s greatest names (from Bon Jovi, to Def Leppard and Journey) adds a strong personal element that will definitely bring the band to the attention of a very wide audience.
The band’s debut album “Kiss Of Life” has been recorded under the direction of producer John Greatwood (engineer for Tom Lord-Alge of QUEEN fame), with the band selecting a total of 12 songs out of a total of 25 written for the purpose. Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69) stepped up to the plate to put the final touches to the album, mastering it in his studio in Germany. The band has also recently finished the shooting of the first video for the album title track, which will be launched as first single in the fall.
Singer Nick Workman commented: “We are pleased and excited to be signed to Frontiers Records. We are very proud of this album and believe that it brings new vibe to the rock scene whilst maintaining the roots of all of the bands that have inspired us over the years!”
Frontiers plans to release the debut album “Kiss of Life” later this year with more details to follow later. VEGA will be out on the road in the new year taking their music to the Rock fans live on stage!

I don’t know who writes up the stickers that embrace the front of the CDs from Victory Records artist Sister Sin, but they always catch the eye of this 80’s metal fan. Sister Sin’s latest output True Sound of the Underground declares the CD as real street metal for fans of Judas Priest, Motley Crue, Scorpions & Accept. Typically, when I read this on the cover of a CD, I think to myself, “Yeah Right”, but in the case of Sister Sin, they completely nailed it. If you like 80’s metal, you are going to enjoy True Sound of the Underground!
My first taste of Sister Sin came with their 2008 release, Switchblade Serenades. I really like that CD a lot, so it was only natural that I was going to pick this disc up. Typically, I have an aversion to female hard rock singers, but this is not the case Sister Sin’s Liv. Liv often reminds me of Doro Pesch when she sings. She has the perfect metal voice, and one that really helps to drive these songs home. True Sound of the Underground blasts off with the opening numbers, “Sound of the Underground”, and “Outrage”. To my ears, these are the best songs on the album, but the all of the songs rock. If you are looking for some power ballads, you won’t find it here. The eleven tracks here are packed full of up tempo heavy metal. If anything, this album could have used a couple of slower tracks to break up the pace a little bit. A little more diversity could have given some of these songs a bigger impact. “Sound of the Underground” and “Outrage” are both awesome, as is the cover song “24-7″.
Most folks may not recognize “24-7” as a cover tune, but this is a Udo Dirkschneider tune from his 2005 CD, Mission No. X. I like Sister Sin’s version of the song better than Udo’s quite honestly. Liv’s voice is nowhere near as abrasive as Udo’s and this makes the lyrics much easier to understand.
Another highlight on the album is the headbanging tune “Heading for Hell”. This kick ass song will have you throwing your horns up in no time!
Overall, True Sound of the Underground doesn’t break any new ground musically, but if you are a fan of 80’s metal, you won’t care about that any more than I do. I believe Switchblade Serenades is a stronger disc than True Sound of the Underground, but this disc does not disappoint in the least. You can download the song “Outrage” for free at this link, and you can score a digital copy of True Sound of the Underground for only $5.o0 in the month of September here! Don’t miss this!

I have been a Jorn Lande fan pretty much from the first time I have heard him sing. To see Jorn Lande perform live is definitely on this metalhead’s bucket list. Masterplan may have come as close to metal perfection as they are ever going to get by having Jorn Lande return to the band. While the band is extremely talented in its own right, Jorn Lande’s powerhouse vocals really make Masterplan one of the better new metal acts of the last decade. Check out their killer new video, “Time To Be King” below.
