It is a crying shame that Bang Tango’s third effort, Love After Death has not had a proper release in the United States. This disc is the last to feature the band’s original recording lineup of Joe LeSté, Mark Knight, Tigg Ketler, Kyle Kyle, and Kyle Stevens. This was released after the grunge scene hit it big, and was released in Europe under the Music For Nations label.
It took months for me to track down a reasonably priced copy of this out of print CD. As they say, good things come to those who wait. Bang Tango’s Love After Death is another good release indeed. Does it stand up to Psycho Cafe or Dancin’ on Coals? Probably not, but there are some pretty good songs worth checking out on this CD.
The opening track “New Generation” is full of the all the fire & energy that made me love this band in the first place. “My Favourite 9” is another cool tune that is filled with that funky bass from Kyle Kyle that gave Bang Tango their semi-unique sound in the late 80’s and early 90’s.
“Crazy” starts off slow and finishes big. Joe LeSté and company takes the listener on a fun ride. If this would have been released earlier in Bang Tango’s career, it could have been a huge hit.
The only song that really doesn’t seem to work on Love After Death is the ballad “A Thousand Goodbyes”. The rest of the CD is pretty good, but this song I could have lived without. Nonetheless, Love After Death is a pretty good effort from Bang Tango, and seems like a natural bridge for Joe LeSté’s jump over to Beautiful Creatures in the mid nineties.
I can’t understand why this CD didn’t get a proper release in the United States. Bang Tango fans will without question love this disc. Sadly, it is a hard disc to track down, and it out of print. It often sells for over 25 bucks on eBay regularly. It is a cool CD, and one worth tracking down if you can find it at the right price. Happy Hunting!

ALBUM TO BE RELEASED MARCH 8, 2010 IN NORTH AMERICA ON SPV/STEAMHAMMER
For the original band members Harry Conklin (vocals), Mark Briody (guitar) and John Tetley (bass), JAG PANZER has always been something they held close to their hearts. “We’ve known each other from our earliest childhood and have never lost sight of the idea that this band is based on,” Tetley explains. “I don’t exactly want to use the term ‘spiritual’, but the three of us are connected with this band by a very special relationship. You could say that our lives are inseparably linked with the history of JAG PANZER.”
This heartfelt passion has always been apparent in their songs, however: the American band has never sounded as impressive, mature and accomplished as on their latest album “The Scourge Of The Light” (out on 28 February 2011 in Europe, 25 February 2011 in Germany, and on 8 March 2011 in the US).
The reasons? Well, there are probably a number of them. Without a doubt, the band’s two main songwriters, guitarists Mark Briody and Christian Lasegue, have never been in better form. Every one of their extremely dynamic riffs sounds haunting, every melody cuts their listeners to the core. It may sound like a contradiction, but since guitarist Chris Broderick, who was a band member between 1997 and 2007, left to join Megadeth, JAG PANZER have returned to their old roots. “There can be no question that Chris Broderick is an amazing guitarist, and we were really happy for him that he got this chance with Megadeth. But we feel that thanks to Christian Lasegue, JAG PANZER‘s classic, clearly more melodic power metal style has returned and that the fans will definitely be happy about this.” Tetley may well be right since JAG PANZER‘s most recent studio recording Casting The Stones (2004) was criticised, especially in Europe, for its noticeably harsher direction. “We knew that Christian was the best man for the job, after all he was a band member for three years in the mid-1980s.”
But there are other reasons, too, why “The Scourge Of The Light” sounds so impressive. Despite their limited production budget, JAG PANZER spared no expense or effort to give their ten fantastic new songs a driving their trademark sound. For this reason, they asked Jim Morris to mix the recordings at his legendary Morrisound Studios in Florida and sent the result to New York’s renowned Sterling Sound for mastering. The result is a real ear catcher, without any ifs and buts: “I feel The Scourge Of The Light is the best-sounding album in the history of JAG PANZER,” Tetley rightly expresses his pride in the product of his group’s labors.

Mark Briody – guitars

Alter Bridge and NoiseCreep.com have now premiered the video for their new single, “Isolation,” off their latest release AB III. The video, directed by Dan Catullo, was shot on their current European tour and gives a look into the everyday life of this band. “It’s a look into the real life of this band and not some put together story,” guitarist Mark Tremonti told NoiseCreep. “It’s a tribute to the fans. It’s a look into the tour. We just wanted to show how it is out on tour with us and our interaction with the fans by including them in the video.”
As reported here at Hard Rock Hideout, Axl Rose is suing Activision, makers of Guitar Hero III, for using Slash’s likeness in the video game. Rose was supposedly informed that a replica Slash or appearances of his other group, Velvet Revolver, wouldn’t be used in the game. Axl allowed Activision to use Welcome To The Jungle based on this information. There are some internet reports that Axl is upset because of an alleged hatred of Slash. Some message board comments claim Axl is trying to sponge all memory of Slash from Guns N’ Roses. Personally, I don’t know what to think, but I don’t believe either of those statements.
In light of the recent Guitar Hero III news, it made me wonder – will the original Guns N’ Roses ever reunite? What would it take for this to happen? The new incarnation of Guns N’ Roses has been sporadically touring the world (with the exception of the US) in support of Chinese Democracy. As usual, there are rumors that the tour will come to North America (including the US) next year, but that remains to be seen. Velvet Revolver is no more (or on hiatus, as they claim) and Duff McKagan is no longer a member of Jane’s Addiction. As far as anyone knows, Slash has no further plans to further hit the road in support of his solo debut album. Steven Adler has been touring on and off with Adler’s Appetite, but I’m sure he could easily make himself available for a reunion with Guns. As for Izzy Stradlin, he released a new album, Wave Of Heat, this past summer. He is currently not touring in support of that release.
Knowing that all of the principle members of the band are available, is it possible that the original Guns N’ Roses could reunite? All 5 members are currently doing next to nothing. Duff recently showed up at a Guns N Roses gig and played a couple of songs on stage, which had everyone speculating if that was the beginning of something. But, supposedly, there is so much anger and hatred between Slash and Axl Rose, that it would quash any chance of a reunion.
There obviously have been no conversations about reuniting. Axl and Slash would need to sit in a room, work out their differences, and make up to a Jagger/Richards level (at least). Promoters must be salivating at the chance to produce a Guns N’ Roses reunion. The greedy corporations like Live Nation would love to offer the band a guaranteed $100 million and then turn around and rape the fans on ticket prices, merchandise, and everything else they could get their pudgy little fingers on.
I personally think this is one of those rare cases where money won’t solve the problems at hand. I believe that Axl is too stubborn and Slash is moving forward in life. There will be no reunion because the two principal players will never make up. Sure, Duff might be able to be an intermediary, and with a little luck he may be able to get them to sit down and at least be civil toward one another, but I just don’t see a reunion happening. I don’t feel that Axl has grown up enough.
What would you pay to see the original Guns N’ Roses? Knowing how sky high ticket prices can go for these nostalgic concerts, would you be willing to pay a Roger Waters-ish price of $250/ticket? More? Personally, I don’t think that I would pay more than $50, and I would want the concert to start on time. I know, sometimes I can be an old curmudgeon. One of the largest problems the original Guns N’ Roses had was starting concerts on time. In his autobiography Slash said that it was the one thing that bothered him more than anything else about Axl or the band. Concerts have to start on time, not when Axl chooses they should start.
Could they do it? Would Axl and Slash be able to make up long enough to do a reunion tour for the fans? If the Eagles can reunite, anything is possible, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. There’s still a lot of anger, confusion, and frustration inside of Mr. Rose. Until he decides to address those emotional demons, there’s not much hope for anything else. That includes a reunited Guns N’ Roses.
Hinder is back with their third effort. All American Nightmare. I have been looking forward to this disc for a while, but I have to admit I had a few reservations about it. Once I found out that they used some of the same writers as country artists Tim McGraw, Martina McBride, Faith Hill and Dierks Bentley I was left scratching my head in disbelief. I mean, after all, what does a bunch of country writers know about rock and roll? Certainly they can’t write a rock album can they? YES THEY CAN!!
As it turns out Brett and Brad Warren, the two writers who wrote many of the songs on All American Nightmare, were in a lesser known hair metal band called St. Warren in the early 90’s. (You can still find their St. Warren releases at FNA Records.com) The two brothers also have plenty of credibility as hit country writers as well. Needless to say, they helped Hinder craft some cool tunes on what is quickly becoming my de facto favorite of all the Hinder releases.
The opening cut “2 Sides of Me” has those big hooks that Def Leppard became known for. This song gets better with every listen.
The title track “All American Nightmare” is another infectious rocker that had me proudly displaying my Ronnie James Dio “Mano Cornutos”.
If “What You Gonna Do” doesn’t blow up, and become a major hit, there is something seriously wrong with American radio out there. This is a great tune.
“Waking Up the Devil” was originally featured on the Saw 3D soundtrack. If you picked that disc up, you already know how cool this track is. This song has a little bit of a southern rock edge, with a splash of heavy modern rock mixed in for good measure.
“Striptease” may just be the heaviest Hinder song of all time, and honestly I wish the band would do MORE songs like this. This song is catchy and heavy.
“Put That Record On” is a catchy and clever song honoring all of the awesome rock bands that blazed the path for Hinder. This is a very cool way to close out All American Nightmare.
If you are a fan of Hinder, you are going to love All American Nightmare. If you haven’t check the band out before, check out this CD first. You won’t be disappointed.

NOTE: All That Remains only performs on dates from Jan 19 – Feb 20.
Frontiers Records is excited to announce the release in Europe of JOHN WAITE’s new studio album entitled Rough & Tumble on January 21st, 2011.
Waite’s anticipated new release follows 2007’s Downtown…Journey of Heart and shows a new and fresh side of the British singer/songwriter’s creative output. Part of the album was recorded in Nashville. The record wrapped with a spirited studio session in Los Angeles with the members of his touring band.
Waite says of Rough & Tumble: “As much as I feel the release of the live album, In Real Time, last May was a defining moment and as much as I have enjoyed playing those songs, I consider this album a new beginning. I approached this project with an entirely different ambition musically than I’ve had in the past. It’s the first record I’ve made that I think is made up of singles. All 12 tracks are contenders. They’re all alive in their own way. I’m not really sure what the energy is behind the songs, but there is a real kind of velocity in the album where we just picked up speed and kept going. We just wanted to play and win.”
A good portion of Rough & Tumble was written and produced in a sweet pocket of creativity enjoyed over the past year and a half with Matchbox Twenty lead guitarist/songwriter Kyle Cook, who Waite met through a mutual friend. “It’s pretty much extraordinary,” Waite says about the material he created for the new album. “It’s not like what people would expect from me. It’s a step to the left. There’s a rock imprint on the music and a melodic presence, but it’s just shifted gears. It’s an extreme record. It has an identity and a philosophy of its own, which is really fresh for me.”
The Waite/Cook collaboration has proved to be nothing short of phenomenal, as evidenced by songs like “Evil” (a thumping rocker-meets-dance-club tour de force), “Better Off Gone” (a hook-laced better-off-on-the-open-road anthem), the deep groove-laden “Love’s Goin’ Out of Style” and the soaring magic ballad “If You Ever Get Lonely”. “I’m not saying it’s high art, but genuinely speaking, it’s fantastic for me,” Waite says, reflecting on his new music. “I certainly am interested in spending the rest of my life doing something creative rather than just living in the past”.
On Rough & Tumble, Waite also managed to keep the rougher live rock edge that shines through on In Real Time alive and well. The no-holds-barred, riff-ready title track and the driving renditions of “Sweet Rhode Island Red” (a Tina Turner number) and “Mr. Wonderful” (a new take on a hidden gem originally included on his debut solo album, Ignition) are set to shake heads during the next tour. The melodies of the amazing “Shadows of Love” are yet another highlight of Waite’s new superbly varied and interesting musical statement.
Rough & Tumble final track listing includes:
Rough & Tumble, Shadows of Love, Evil, If You Ever Get Lonely, Skyward, Sweet Rhode Island Red, Love’s Goin’ Out of Style; Better Off Gone, Further The Sky, Peace of Mind, Mr. Wonderful, Hanging Tree.
The songs “Shadows of Love” and “If You Ever Get Lonely” can be listened to in full exclusively on the Frontiers Web Radio. Tune in at: www.frontiers.it/webradio
The first single “Shadows of Love” is available NOW for digital purchase !
It’s been years since Nelson has released any new material and even longer since they’ve had a radio hit (1991 to be precise). So, why would the band think that after all this time, they would be able to release a brand new album that fans would find relevant and want to add to their music collection? The answer is simple. Nelson still has talent. They proved that with their new release, Lightning Strikes Twice (due out in February in the US, available now in Europe). Lightning Strikes Twice is the perfect complement to After The Rain, even though it is several years (and several albums) removed from the Nelson debut.
Matthew and Gunnar Nelson are still a talented pair of twins with their father’s (Ricky Nelson) blessed ability with the gift of music. After several years away from the studio, the twins decided that it was time to record some new material and release it to the public. Whether they’ve been sitting on this material for years, or recently wrote it with a new album in mind is hard to tell, but one thing’s for certain – the material is excellent.
Officially billed as the sequel to 1990’s After The Rain, Lightning Strikes Twice is a true return to that era of good time, happy, rock and roll. It’s a return to a style of music that didn’t take itself too seriously and only cared about having a music party with a great groove. Lightning Strikes Twice has accomplished this feat with relative ease. Both Matthew and Gunnar sound incredible. Their voices have not aged over the years and there is no hint that either of them lost their ability behind the microphone.
Gunnar’s talent with the guitar is still fascinating. The solos on Lightning Strikes Twice are rich and deep, and while the basic structure of the songs can sometimes be “cheesy,” it’s that kind of corny that we are looking for to rescue us from the layered, over thought, overly produced hard rock of today. Gunnar and his guitar bring it back to the simplicity of yesteryear.
Thematically, Lightning Strikes Twice builds on the similar ground that produced Nelson’s chart topping debut album. Broken hearts, lots of parties, and the chivalrous, “boy rescues girl from bad relationship” are all present and accounting for. Sappy, romantic lines textured with high wailing guitar solos drench this record throughout. Boy meets girl, boy falls for girl, boy wants girl in the worst way, boy doesn’t know how to tell girl he loves her… the list goes on and on. If you enjoyed (or still enjoy) After The Rain, then you are going to love Lightning Strikes Twice.
While the album is not groundbreaking by any stretch of the imagination, Lightning Strikes Twice is more about the fun factor. If you want to revisit the late 80s/early 90s without having to get nostalgic or find your own flux capacitor, listening to Lightning Strikes Twice is the best way to do it. Chock full of nothing but fun and happiness (even on the sad songs), this is a terrific album that you should get your hands on.

American Bang, Default, My Darkest Days & Hinder played to a packed house at Cincinnati, Ohio’s Bogarts on November 19th.
Unfortunately, I missed American Bang. I hit the club right at 8 P.M., and American Bang has already left the stage. I was looking forward to seeing those guys. (My ticket said show at 8 P.M., DOH!!!)
Default took the stage at approx. 8:30. I have to admit, that I was not familiar with the band. I thought they were good, but they didn’t overwhelm me. I probably would have liked them better if I knew some of their songs. I have checked out their latest CD, Comes and Goes yet, but will be doing so soon. You can download their song, “Turn It On” for FREE at this link!
My Darkest Days took the stage next, and quite honestly almost stole the show. I don’t know if I could classify My Darkest Days as a hard rock band, but it didn’t matter. They were excellent!! The band had an amazing stage presence, and I truly enjoyed hearing their songs live. Reid Henry, the band’s keyboard/guitar player put forth so much energy on stage. He was fun to watch. If I was going to put together a new band today, I would be proud to have this guy in a band. He was great! I hope that I will get to see this band play again in the near future.
Some of the songs they played live were, “Move Your Body”, “Come Undone” (Duran Duran cover), “Fucked Up Situation” and the set closer “Pornstar Dancing”.
Hinder was the headliner for the show, and rightfully so. Every time I have seen Hinder they have always put on a good show, and this night was no exception. These guys get a bad rap far too often, and I don’t understand why. The only thing I see Hinder as being guilty of is rocking! Joe Garvey, Mark King, and Mike Rodden, Hinder’s guitar triumvirate play with a lot of energy and are fun to watch. I love seeing Cody Hanson play the drums on his riser behind the band. With his fiery red hair, he reminds me of Animal from the Muppets when he plays the drums. I don’t know what was going on with Austin Winkler on this night. I thought his voice sounded good, but his hair was slicked back in a fashion that he looked a lot like George McFly in the Back to the Future movies.
The band played a bunch of new songs from their soon to be released CD, All American Nightmare. The songs were well received by the packed house at Bogart’s. Prior to this night, I have only heard a couple of the songs from the videos that we have posted at Hard Rock Hideout. Judging from the new tunes that I heard, the new album is going to kick butt!
I thought Hinder put on another great show in Cincinnati, and the crowd that was there definitely seemed to think so too.
Don’t miss Hinder when they come to your town. They have a bunch of tour dates remaining in December. Check the band’s website for tour dates here!
This is the set list from Hinder’s show:
2 Sides of Me (new)
Up All Night
All American Nightmare (new)
What Ya Gonna Do (new)
Better Then Me
Hey Ho (new)
Lips Of An Angel

The latest from Gary Cherone (Extreme, Van Halen) who has teamed up with his brother Markto write his most succinct record to date. The self-titled, HURTSMILE is a raw sonic suckerpunch in the face! From the opening buzz saw riff of “Just War Theory” to the epic finale of”Slave” and “Beyond The Garden/Kicking Against the Goads”, Gary continues to push andpoke you in the ear with his lyrically provocative themes.“Hurtsmile was a long time coming… I always wanted to write a record with my brother,” saysGary. “I’m a big fan of Mark’s song writing and his snarling guitar riffs.” The timing was right as Extreme was in-between their touring and record cycle, leaving Gary the freedom. Theyrecruited Joe Pessia (bass) an alumnus of Nuno Bettencourt’s Dramagods as well as the guitarplayer for Tantric. Joe also engineered, and co-produced the record with Gary.
To round off thelineup they enlisted heavy hitter Dana Spellman on drums “It’s an east coast-Boston thing,”states Gary. “Mark, my brother, was in a band with Nuno’s brother… Joe was in Nuno’s bandand Dana was a friend, and student of Mike Mangini (former Extreme drummer) … we like tokeep it in the family.”The lineup is not the only thing familiar with the band. In true Cherone fashion, the record ischock full of swaggering guitar, soaring vocals and the trademark Cherone eclecticism ontracks such as “Jesus Would You Meet Me”, the reggae-tinged “Just War Reprise” and theDylanesq “The Murder of Daniel Faulkner (4699)”. “Hurtsmile was about returning to myroots, writing a record in my basement, a straight up rock ‘n’ roll record… but it turned out tobe more diverse and ambitious than I expected.”Gary is no stranger to taking on intense topics, and Hurtsmile is no exception.
The first half of the record is a group of more loosely knit songs such as the cynically inquisitive “Just WarTheory”, the limit’s of free speech “Tolerance Song (edit)” and the disturbingly mesmerizing“Kaffur (Infidel)”, inspired by the beheading of Daniel Pearl. The 2nd half of the record is more conceptually cohesive; an introspective look at the nature ofman and the condition of the human heart. “Stillborn” introduced earlier, and “Set Me Free”both touch on mans inclination toward darkness, culminating with an epic journey from sin tosalvation… “Slave” to “Beyond the Garden/Kicking Against the Goads”.For the most part both themes are represented as 2 sides of a record. A concept familiar toExtreme fans but make no mistake, whether reading between the lines or just moved by thevisceral power of the music, this is a completely different type of record. Gary adds, “All theboys in the band have brought something new to the table, and you’ll never know what hit you!”
Just War Theory,Stillborn, Love Thy Neighbo, Kaffur (Infidel), Painter Paint, Tolerance Song, Set Me Free, Jesus Would You Meet Me, Slave, Beyond The Garden – Kicking Against The Goads, Just War Reprise, The Murder Of Daniel Faulkner (4699)

Formed in London, England, in October 1978, KILLING JOKE was the brainchild of classically trained musician and vocalist Jeremy “Jaz” Coleman and drummer “Big” Paul Ferguson, who eagerly recruited two like-minded comrades in the form of guitarist Kevin “Geordie” Walker and bassist Martin “Youth” Glover and set about establishing a brand new and highly idiosyncratic manifesto for reinventing the rock ‘n’ roll wheel. Coming to life during what would become known as the “post-punk” era, KILLING JOKE were never willing to conform to the artistic restrictions of any particular scene or genre. Instead, they took a vast and bewildering array of influences and experience, and combined them to create something entirely unique and utterly timely that still stands up today.
Over the years, the band members have chosen to develop their talents in a variety of ways: Triple Grammy winner Jaz Coleman, for instance, has established an international reputation working with some of the world’s greatest symphony orchestras, while Martin “Youth” Glover has become one of the UK’s most celebrated producers, supervising albums from the Verve and Primal Scream among many others, as well as achieving major success as one half of highly-regarded duo, The Orb.
Covered by Metallica, Foo Fighters and so many others, KILLING JOKE’s apocalyptic post punk/industrial vision continues to draw praise from such high-profile supporters as Jimmy Page and Billy Corgan, and the band’s considerable musical legacy can be heard in the works of Nirvana, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails and the like – artists whose rise to fame never saw them cutting ties with the underground/alternative scene.
Once described by Paul Ferguson as “the sound of the earth vomiting,” KILLING JOKE are now poised to take their music of resistance to a whole new level, both in the studio and on the road. Stay tuned.

Los Angeles based hard rock artists Will Wallner (Guitarist) & Vivien Vain (Vocalist) announce debut album featuring an all-star line up of guest musicians. The duo have written and recorded several songs and are in the process of recording the final tracks for their debut release.
The project began when Wallner/Vain had a chance meeting with Carmine Appice (Blue Murder / King Kobra) and Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath / Dio) at the Rainbow Bar & Grill on the Sunset Strip. Half of the songs feature Carmine and half feature Vinny. Bassist Tony Franklin (Blue Murder / The Firm) plays alongside Carmine which reunites the duo who played together in the critically acclaimed Blue Murder. Vinny performs with bassist Jimmy Bain (Rainbow / Dio) who had previously played together in the classic line-up of DIO. Rudy Sarzo (Ozzy Osbourne / Quiet Riot) also plays on several tracks with Vinny.
Guest musician Tony Carey (Rainbow / EBC) also plays on two tracks and reunites Carey with Jimmy Bain who last played together on Ritchie Blackmores Rainbow – Rising. Mixing the album is industry pro Gary Tole who in addition to working with Bon Jovi and Metallica has worked with David Lee Roth and Joe Lynn Turner.
Finally a song from Will Wallner’s previous project with Keyboardist Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater / Black Country Communion) will be included on the album. The song was produced by Derek and features Brian Tichy (Whitesnake / Pride & Glory) on drums with Tony Franklin.
The album will be released sometime in 2011. For more information go to http://www.wallnervain.com
