Back in the 80’s music videos used to be fun, and at some point it seems like the big music companies started to lose their creativity. I am sure this is due to their video budgets being greatly reduced. It is good to see some independent bands bringing some humor and fun back into videos, and that is exactly what Sin City Sinners did with their “Goin to Vegas” video. Check it out below!
Newly reformed NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) heroes STAMPEDE have announced details of the release of their new album ‘A Sudden Impulse’ – the long awaited follow up to their classic 1983 debut studio album ‘Hurricane Town.’
Finding a happy and welcoming new home with Rock Candy Record’s spin-off front line label Grind That Axe Records, the band are finally excited to be able to reveal full track listing and artwork for the new album, which is due for release on April 18. Lead singer Reuben Archer comments “Personally I am really excited about the new album and our association with Rock Candy. It’s great to feel part of something that’s happening and more than anything we can’t wait to get out there and play live!”
One of the most respected hard rock acts during the early eighties, the band signed to Polydor Records and released two albums of impressive melodic rock to both critical and commercial acclaim, being compared to earthy British bands such as UFO and Humble Pie.
Following regenerated interest brought about by Rock Candy Records’ reissue of ‘Hurricane Town’ in 2006, song writing partnership Reuben and Laurence Archer decided to reform the band in 2009. Together with original bassist Colin Bond, new drummer Steve Graystone and the addition of a second guitarist in the form of Chris Clowsley, the band have crafted a worthy, if not superlative, long lost follow-up to their studio debut in the opinion of label manager Derek Oliver, who describes the new material as “lean, mean tough-guy hard rock with all the soulful delivery of classic British steel led by Reuben’s instantly identifiable vocal and Laurence’s blistering plank spanking burn outs.”
Reuben strongly believes that welcoming additional elements to Stampede have only served to strengthen the band, making the new material on A Sudden Impulse their most enjoyablestudio experience yet. For example, twenty‐year‐old guitarist Rob Wolverson was invited toadd his unique flair to the recordings as a result of Laurence being indisposed for a period because of personal commitments. Explains Reuben: “We could have had several existing name players fill in during this time, but I’d known Rob for years and watched him grow into a real guitar whizz‐kid. He’s also a great writer and brought a lot of vibrancy to the project. I just knew he was right for the job.”
Commenting on the end result, Reuben adds: “We have a harder sound now, the melodic
hooks are there and I think we have a lot more edge than the first time around – especially due to our new powerhouse drummer Stevie G, and also Chris, whose strong rhythm guitar, vocal and guitar harmonies contribute enormously to the new sound. It has all resulted in making the reincarnation of Stampede an even more exciting project for us.“
‘A Sudden Impulse’ is released on Rock Candy Records, April 18th 2011
Live dates scheduled for Spring 2011 TBA.
Full track listing of the album is as follows:

The first thing that stands out on Gynger Lynn’s sophomore LP Baby’s Gone Bad (culled from material originally recorded in 1993) is the guitar work of Will Hair. Between blistering solos and clean notes, Will Hair stands out as the most talented member of this group. While I like lead singer Dean Pressley’s voice it is Will Hair’s ability with the ax that gives Baby’s Gone Bad some merit.
Oozing with 80s hair metal riffs, lyrics, and topics, Baby’s Gone Bad is a great album for the hair metal fanatic. Whether it’s singing about a girl, fast times, or partying, Gynger Lynn covers the 80s scene in full force for 16 tracks. Some of these songs are very catchy (Baby’s All Talk, Need To Know, Baby’s Gone Bad) and some are nothing more than filler (Take Me Away, Yes It’s True, The Chance).
Ultimately there is nothing outstanding or new in the presentation. Gynger Lynn is a band that would have made it big back in the day if they had the proper marketing. What that adds up to in 2011 is a mediocre effort that the nostalgic metal heads will love. That leaves little room to grow an audience though.
The power ballads on the album (of which there are several) do stand out and it’s these romantic jams that make Baby’s Gone Bad worth paying attention to. Pressley’s voice is a perfect companion to Will Hair’s moving guitar riffs and Gavin Jadwin’s keyboard playing. A quick listen to songs like Along The Way or Lonely, Lonely will leave you yearning for the innocent days of high school and your fringe leather jacket.
Part of the problem with Baby’s Gone Bad is that not enough songs were excluded from the album. If the band and the producer had decided to trim this album to 11 songs, it might be regarded as one of the strongest hair metal records released in quite a while. Unfortunately, Gynger Lynn decided to take the more is more approach which left a glaring error on the disc. Filler songs are far too many and actually take away from the stronger songs that stand out in their own right.
Overall, Baby’s Gone Bad isn’t a bad album; it’s just that it never rises above the level of average. If you’re seeking a hair metal sound from back in the day, Gynger Lynn is worth checking out. If you’re looking for a record that has depth and a little innovation, this is not the record for you. Hopefully for their next release Gynger Lynn will decide to write some current material that will include current topics. It would certainly be an interesting listen.

Avenged Sevenfold have released the following statement announcing the new drummer, Arin Ilejay, who will be joining them on the “Nightmare After Christmas” tour. Arin previously played in Southern California metal outfit Confide.
We recently asked several friends who knew Jimmy and his style, and also knew our music and each of our personalities to suggest drummers to tour with us starting this year. Our long time studio drum tech, Mike Fasano, recommended Arin Ilejay. We’ve rehearsed with Arin and have been impressed with his technical skills, attitude and work ethic. We’re very excited to tour with Arin and hope all of you will give him the warm welcome to the family we have.

TMZ.com is reporting:
Mötley Crüe is being sued over a sweatshirt … and it all stems from an iconic photo taken way back in 1981.
The Crüe and Live Nation are being sued by Ron Toma who claims he owns the copyright to the famous “belt buckle photo” …. taken by photog Michael Pinter back in 1981. The band used the photo on the cover of their hit album “Too Fast for Love.”
But according to Toma’s lawsuit, filed in Illinois Northern District Court, Crüe and Live Nation stole the image without permission and used it on some signature hoodies they’re selling on their websites.
Toma is asking a judge to step in ASAP to administer some justice — blocking MC and Live Nation from using the image without permission. Calls to Mötley Crüe weren’t returned.

WHITESNAKE, the legendary rock’n’roll legacy founded and formed by renowned singer/songwriter David Coverdale, unleashes a brand new storming ‘Snake statement, “Forevermore” on Frontiers Records on March 25th in Europe and March 29th in North America.
Their 11th studio album, “Forevermore” was recorded, produced and mixed by Coverdale, guitarist Doug Aldrich and Michael McIntyre at Snakebyte Studios and Grumblenott Studios & Villas in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, with additional work at Casa Dala, Sherman Oaks, CA, and Whitesnake will take to the road for a full world tour in support of the release.
Formed in 1977, and steered by the legendary Coverdale, Whitesnake carry a rightful reputation as one of the world’s leading rock’n’roll bands. Coverdale’s blues and soul roots, combined with a feral sense of rock and roll, have consistently shaped the ‘Snake’s sound, and add to that Coverdale’s love and appreciation of impeccable musicianship and you have a failsafe recipe for success.
Their ascent to the very top of the rock’n’roll tree was confirmed with 1987’s self-titled mega-platinum album, which saw two top 10 hits, two number one singles with ‘Here I Go Again’ and ‘Is This Love’ and a virtual 24 hour domination of MTV around the world. Such triumphs were surely foretold when as a young man from Saltburn-By-Sea, Coverdale enthusiastically answered the call to be Deep Purple’s singer. Such bombast, bravado, talent and passion have thus helped establish Whitesnake as the perennial platinum favorite they have become.
With “Forevermore” Coverdale has reignited an explosively fruitful vein of creativity with guitarist and co-writer/producer Aldrich, Reb Beach (Winger, Alice Cooper) on guitar, Briian Tichy (Ozzy, Billy Idol, Foreigner) on drums and Michael Devin (Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Lynch Mob) on bass, and as with all Whitesnake’s albums, Coverdale aided so capably by Aldrich opens up his heart and soul to express emotions and empathy rarely heard these days in any musical genre.
More than simply their latest release, “Forevermore” represents Whitesnake’s no holds barred, most heartfelt, melodic and musically muscular excursion for many a year.
The album’s release will be anticipated by the digital only release of the first single/videoclip “Love Will Set You Free” on February 21st.
“Forevermore” will be specially released on a “Snake Pack” edition for the first 3 weeks in England only. This very special release – arranged in conjunction with Future Publishing and Classic Rock magazine – will come with a collectors edition 132 pages deluxe magazine + A1 poster & metal pin badge and shall feature an exclusive cover art and 2 bonus live tracks “Slide It In” and “Cheap An’ Nasty” which will serve as an appetizer for the forthcoming “Live @ Donington 1990” to be released in the summer 2011.
The album will be also be released on a double gatefold vinyl format, with deluxe special editions to be announced shortly.
This time Coverdale and Co. have really laid it on the line for their fans, and be sure of this, the Snake’s charms are going to convert a whole new army of believers… just watch.
“Forevermore” will include the following songs:
Steal Your Heart Away; All Out Of Luck; Love Will Set You Free; Easier Said Than Done; Tell Me How; I Need You (Shine A Light); One Of These Days; Love And Treat Me Right; Dogs In The Street; Fare Thee Well; Whipping Boy Blues; My Evil Ways; Forevermore.
David Coverdale – vocals
Doug Aldrich – guitar
Reb Beach – guitars
Michael Devin – bass
Briian Tichy – drums

Legendary front man John Bush (Armored Saint, Anthrax) appears as a guest vocalist on the track “Middleville”. When asked what made him decide to collaborate with LONG DISTANCE CALLING he said the following:
“Music. That is the sole reason that I did this song. When I was approached by LONG DISTANCE CALLING, instead of seeking information about them, I just listened to the music. I didn’t look at a web site or a social network. I didn’t inquire about their history. I didn’t even look at a picture. I just listened to them. That was all I needed. It inspired me and allowed me to be part of an amazing song. Ambience, power, mood, melody, it has it all. Crank it!! Preferably in headphones
The album was recorded together with Benjamin Schäfer (Celtic Frost, Subway To Sally) at Horus Studios (Celtic Frost, Donots, Paradise Lost, Eloy, Scorpions, Rolling Stones uvm.) in Hannover, Germany. LONG DISTANCE CALLING push the envelope even further this time out with the surprise guest appearance by Armored Saint/ex-Anthrax vocalist John Bush on “Middleville”. However, John Bush’s guest-appearance is not the only reason that should encourage people to check them out.
After supporting bands such as Opeth, Katatonia, Dredg, labelmates And You Will Know Us By Trail Of Dead, Anathema, Coheed And Cambria, and Deftones they will finally play their own club shows again in order to give people the full audio-visual experience of “LONG DISTANCE CALLING“:

Beginning Jan. 17th, Hard Rock Nights will begin airing a new, 3-hour show Monday thru Saturday on KARL Radio based out of Los Angeles. The Monday thru Friday shows will feature original programming each night, and the Saturday show will serve as a recap show highlighting the best music of the previous week.
Hard Rock Nights is a 2 hour weekly syndicated radio program, hosted by Brian Basher, that currently airs on 20+ affiliates and in 3 countries and can be heard approximately 25 times a week. Participating stations and show times can be found at http://hardrocknights.com/affiliates/ .
Since it first hit the airwaves in August 2008 on WMWX-FM in Cincinnati, through its move to syndication in 2009,. Hard Rock Nights has strived to give its listeners the best hard rock show possible each and every week. Following a slight format change and a new host in 2010, the syndicated radio show plans to take that goal a step further heading into 2011.
Hard Rock Nights owner and host Brian Basher had this to say about the show. “Having a 2 hour weekly show is great for introducing our listeners to various new bands, but it doesn’t really give the listeners a chance to become familiar with those bands because the play-list changes so much from week to week. With a nightly show we’ll be able to introduce the bands to listeners around the world and give them a chance to really become familiar with a band and their music on a consistent basis.”
Basher continues, “I’m grateful and thrilled that the staff at KARL Radio have enjoyed what we’ve been trying to accomplish with Hard Rock Nights week-in and week-out, and I am thankful for the opportunity they have offered us to take Hard Rock Nights to the next level.”
While the initial nightly episodes of Hard Rock Nights will be broadcast on KARL Radio other stations, both internet and terrestrial are invited to contact Brian Basher in regards to carrying Hard Rock Nights – either the weekly or nightly broadcasts.
KARL Radio is an internet radio station based out of Los Angeles that offers its listeners a wide variety of programming on a daily basis and can be heard at the following link http://www.showbizbroadcasting.com/
The Two Acts Vow to Bring Big Show With Full Production on Extensive Forty-Five City Trek of Secondary Markets; Early Ticket Buyers to Receive $5 Discount on the First 1,000 Tickets Sold From Each Show
As announced last month, Korn and Disturbed, two of rock’s biggest acts, are teaming up to co-headline this year’s “Monster Energy Music As A Weapon V Tour.” With the first half of dates on sale now and off to a scorching start, the highly successful Monster Energy’s MAAW V Tour has added even more dates and new markets: a second leg from March 8th through March 30th that will include stops in Las Vegas, Texas, the West Coast and many more.
Jonathan Davis of Korn and David Draiman of Disturbed on how the 45 city trek across America came about:
“We’ve both just finished great tours. We headlined Mayhem and Disturbed headlined Uproar. The Disturbed guys came out to see us play in Chicago and we got to talking about doing something together. We both agreed that as cool as those types of tours are, they usually only hit major markets, and we both agreed that a lot of our fans just don’t live in those cities- so we thought it would be cool to team up, put a big show together, and hit every great place that those big tours never get to. Besides all that, with us and Disturbed together, doing full shows with full production… all I can say is IT’S ON!” said the excited Korn frontman.
“We are thrilled to launch the Monster Energy Music As A Weapon V Tour with our good friends from Korn,” says Disturbed singer David Draiman. “Every year we try to up the ante, and this year, by having Korn co-headline, we really think it’s going to be our best tour yet. When the idea first came up, one of the main things both bands agreed upon and wanted to focus on was hitting a lot of smaller markets. It’s exciting to bring a show like this to cities that are usually skipped over on some of the other larger rock tours that only hit the major markets. We have a lot of loyal fans in these cities and we wanted to bring them a show that they deserve.”
Tickets for the first leg of the tour are on sale now and tickets for select dates on the second leg go on sale this weekend. The bands have decided that the first 1,000 tickets from each show will be sold at a $5 discount during the on-sale weekend to reward early ticket-buying fans.
“A lot of promoters only offer discounted tickets a day or two before the actual show date. We wanted to do something for the fans that are buying their tickets as soon as they go on sale. To offer a discount upfront made the most sense to us,” adds Disturbed guitarist Dan Donegan.
“We’re tired of promoters offering discounted tickets to last minute folks in order to sell the seats in the back of the gig. We’d rather give our fans a discount for buying early,” said Korn guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer.
On August 31st, 2010, Disturbed released their fifth studio album Asylum, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart. Asylum is the band’s fourth consecutive studio album to debut at No. 1, a feat achieved by only two other rock groups in history: Metallica and the Dave Matthews Band. An international hit with Top 10 chart bows across the globe, Asylum has earned critical praise from USA Today, which called it “a tight, sharp-riffed ride… the combo of aggressive roar and guitar grace recalls Metallica’s finest moments,” and the New York Daily News, which declared “On Asylum, Disturbed finely weigh power and delicacy, catchiness and punch. The subtle variety of the band’s tunesmanship, and the buoyancy of their rhythms make this hard group so easy to love.”
Over the last 16 years, Korn have established themselves as one of the biggest bands in the history of hard rock and metal, selling over 30 million albums worldwide. Their latest album, Korn III: Remember Who You Are, released on Roadrunner Records, debuted at #2 on the Billboard charts this year, with Metal Hammer proclaiming that fans would be “wiping away tears of recognition and delight when they blast it for the first, second, and 38th time.”

Critics raved about the 21st Century Breakdown tour, which launched in North America in July of 2009. “As if releasing a wave of energy that had been building up during their four-year hiatus from touring, Green Day poured all their heart and soul into a powerhouse set,” said Rolling Stone, while Spin noted that “the band’s relationship with its audience is disarmingly real.”
Released by Reprise Records on May 15th, 2009, 21st Century Breakdown debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, won a 2009 Grammy Award for “Best Rock Album,” and has sold more than 3.5 million copies worldwide. It has spawned the hit singles “Know Your Enemy,” which has been certified gold, and the platinum-selling “21 Guns,” whose video won three 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, including “Best Rock Video.”

There were a ton of great videos in 2010, but 10 of them stood out among the rest.Roadrunner Records Taking Dawn is one of the newer bands to the label, and it was refreshing to see this young band injecting some humor in the video, instead of just standing around playing instruments. Check out their video, “Time To Burn” below!

Tiago Della Vega is the fastest guitar player in the world again, he broke his previous record of 320 bpm secured on 2008. He set up the new record on the 7 of January 2011 at Intel stand at CES show in Las Vegas, where Tiago was guest with Orange Amps, that he endorses.
Tiago played without any errors N. R. Korsakov’s “The Flight Of The Bumblebee” at 340 bpm, smashing his previous record of 320 bpm secured at EM&T in Sao Paulo on 2008.
DC4 has made their song “Candy Caine” available as a free download on their Reverbnation page. You can get yours by visiting the band’s Reverbnation page, and by signing up on the band’s mailing list!
One band that many veteran metal heads feel should have hit the big time was New York’s The Rods. Comprised of members David “Rock” Feinstein (guitar/lead vocals), Garry Bordonaro (bass/vocals), and Carl Canedy (drums/vocals), The Rods would go on to open arena shows for such renowned groups as Iron Maiden, Twisted Sister, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne (the ‘Blizzard of Oz’ tour), the Scorpions,
Rainbow (Joe Lynn Turner era), and during the mid ’80s, even had a then-unknownMetallica opening a headlining tour for them. Add to it the fact that Feinstein is the cousin of the late, great Ronnie James Dio (both played together in Elf) and Canedy is an acclaimed metal producer (having worked on classic early releases by Megadeth, Anthrax, Overkill, etc.), and it makes it even more baffling why The Rods never got their due.
But this appears to changing quickly, as the trio has signed on with the Niji Entertainment Group, a label that was created by Ronnie James Dio and his wife/manager, Wendy Dio. The band’s seventh release overall (and sixth release overall for Niji) is titled ‘Vengeance,’ and will be released on March 29, 2011.
The release comes hot on the heels of Feinstein’s recently-released solo album, ‘Bitten by the Beast.’
The first single off ‘Vengeance’ will be “The Code,” which features vocals from none other than Ronnie James Dio (one of the very last songs that Ronnie ever recorded, before his untimely death in May of 2010).
This aforementioned Rods line-up has been rocking and rolling for nearly 30 years, and the group has been officially invited to play SXSW this year in Austin, Texas.
More info and tour dates will be announced soon, so get ready to rock once more with The Rods!
‘Vengeance’ Track Listing:
1. “RAISE SOME HELL
2. “I JUST WANNA ROCK”
3. “REBELS HIGHWAY”
4. “RIDE FREE OR DIE”
5. “THE CODE” (Featuring Ronnie James Dio)
6. “LIVIN’ OUTSIDE THE LAW”
7. “LET IT RIPP”
8. “FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE”
10. “RUNNIN WILD”
In an official message from STRATOVARIUS: “Some good news and some bad news. The good news is that we’re back on the road with Helloween. And Jörg Michael is back in his drum chair after his brush with death.
The bad news is that Timo Kotipelto caught some sort of bacterial infection. We suspect it was something from the backstage food in December, but we don’t know. Two of the other people on the tour had the same thing: A very bad dysentery-like stomach infection with vomiting and diarrhea, dehydration, also eventually had to go to hospital, etc.
Timo’s infection is stubborn and in addition to ruining his Christmas break, it has dried out his vocal cords. In his own words, he can’t sing a note at the moment. We are currently in France and so far we had to cancel playing in Paris and Lyon.
We are of course very sorry about this, and nobody is more heartbroken or frustrated than Timo himself. Apart from heeding the advice from doctors we are in touch with, the only thing we can do at the moment is to hope Timo gets better. We will ride the 1000 km to Bilbao tonight and hopefully we will all get some sleep on the nice smooth French motorways.
Check out a short video about the Paris cancellation and some words from Jörg HERE.

SkullsnBones.com has teamed up with SPV/Steamhammer recording artist THE VERY END to offer an exclusive free download of their cover of the Led Zeppelin classic “Immigrant Song”. The band offers quite an interesting take on this classic rock staple. Download your free MP3 here: http://www.skullsnbones.com/profiles/blogs/the-very-end-immigrant-song
Being children of the industrial Ruhr-Area of Germany, THE VERY END know for sure that the sweetest praise ain’t worth a dime if they don’t work off their own balls, too! Thus, the guys recently inked a deal with one of the most prestigious German metal labels.SPV/Steamhammer, as the foundation stone for a successful future partnership. Not to mention that – despite of their prophetic moniker – the metal world will hear a whole lot of THE VERY END in the future!
After their acclaimed debut album “VS. Life” (Dockyard 1 Records, 2008) THE VERY ENDhave tightened the screws and skillfully bridge the gap between classy melodies and 40-ton-groove. THE VERY END have crafted brutal thrash steamrollers with a bluesy-doomish middle vibe on songs while also coming up with melodically impulsive songs with state-of-the-art guitar solos like “Dead Is The New Alive”. The diversity of this record is truly shown with atmospheric tracks that have some haunting yet enchanting acoustic elements like “Rat Nation” or the crunching yet catchy “The Leper”.
“Mercy & Misery”, offers metal in all its shades, yet still reduced to the core. Categories are out of place, because THE VERY END are their “very” own!
