Big Ball – Hotter Than Hell (2010)

The band Big Ball comes from Germany, but on first listen, you might think they are from Australia. The front cover of my CD says if you like Krokus, Airbourne and AC/DC, You will love Big Ball! If every song sounded like the opening cut, “Double Demon” I would have to agree. Big Ball are masters of the three chord AC/DC influenced rock.  Hotter Than Hell doesn’t have one original thing going for it, but the band does rock.

Lead Singer, The Blood God has so much snarl & venom in his voice, that he sounds more like Udo Dirkschneider than Bon Scott or Brian Johnson.  With that being said, his voice quickly becomes tiring, and one that I could  do without. If you can get past the voice of The Blood God, you will probably enjoy the music.  Unfortunately for me, I can’t separate the two.  The singer of Big Ball absolutely kills this CD for me.  I like the song “Double Demon”, and aside from that I found the title track “Hotter Than Hell” to be ok, but I struggled to find any other songs to my liking.

There are a ton of bands out there that have a similar sound to AC/DC, and many of them are quite good.  To my ears, if Big Ball had a different singer, they could be one of the good ones.  Hotter Than Hell was nothing more than a disappointment to my ears.
