I too hope this better than I expect Frank. Arnel Pineda is a pretty phenomenal singer, so it will be interesting to see what the band can do with him again. Now that he is over the “new guy” hump, hopefully they can put something out that makes Journey fans, Arnel Pineda fans too. (Although I think he has already won over a lot of folks!)
I wish the best for them, and it’s good they’re still hitting it. I’m not too excited about the new songs, though. I don’t hear the ‘hooks’ that we all know and love about Journey. It’s like the new Metallica – great sound, but it just sounds like they’re going through the motions.
This new singer is phenomenal, but it also goes to show you what a heavyweight Steve Perry was (is). You can have all the vocal technique in the world, but it takes a one in a million artist to come up with a melody like ‘Lovin, Touchin, Squeezin’ or ‘Any Way You Want It’.
Personally, I’m a great guitar player. Maybe better than 80% of the players out there. BUT, until I can come up with a ‘Slide It In’, ‘Wicked Sensation’, or ‘Lay It Down’, I’m just another good player. Kinda like the new KISS……
Good luck, Journey, I hope the new album is better than I expect.
