Electric Boys – And Them Boys Done Swang (2011)

After a fifteen year absence, The Electric Boys reunited, and have delivered their fourth album, And Them Boys Done Swang.

The band mates of Electric Boys didn’t exactly disappear during the bands hiatus.  Connie Bloom and Andy Christell have been playing in Hanoi Rocks, and released a great album, Street Poetry in 2007.

So how does And Them Boys Done Swang stack up? In my opinion, I believe the band has cranked out their best album since their classic debut, Funk-O-Metal Carpet Ride.

And Them Boys Done Swang sees the Electric Boys return to their funky roots.  The music on this CD is a mix of funky glam rock, 70’s psychedelia and classic hard rock.  The majority of the songs are positively upbeat, fresh and highly listenable.  This is definitely one of the more interesting albums I have heard in 2011.

Some of the highlights includes the rockin’ opening cut “Reeferlord”, the infectious “Father Popcorn’s Magic Oysters” (see video below), the Beatles-like “Ten Thousand Times Goodbye”, the silly yet fun “The House is Rockin” and the super funky “Sometimes U Gotta Go Look For the Car”.

And Them Boys Done Swang is one of the surprise albums of 2011.  This is a highly entertaining album, and a disc worth checking out. Don’t miss this!

Not only is it hard to buy this CD in the US, but it ticks me off just a little that there are three bonus tracks on the Japanese release. If I know there is a version with 15 tracks, I’m not gonna be as happy with a version with only 12.

Ive never understood why Japan Always always seems to get bonus tracks. And even Europe gets them a lot. But rarely does it happen in the USA. 😦

The Bonus tracks on this CD are really good. Are they worth an extra 20 – 25 bucks? I guess it depends on your bank account. I decided to pay for the the Japanese version, as the bonus tracks are really good.

The second song rocks as much as the first! 🙂 I see CDInzane has it for $14.00 http://www.cdinzane.com/_search.php?page=1&q=electric+boys

I freaking LOVE The Electric Boys, and have been following this one since they started posting some videos. Sounds like the old stuff, and Conny Bloom is truly one of the underrated musicians of our time.

I hope they get decent marketing and distribution.

I am still trying to find this one reasonably on CD. It is only available in the U.S. as an import. It is a real bummer, as without U.S. distribution, very few will buy or hear this.

I am VERY MUCH a proponent of paying artists for their music, but the label who is releasing this is harming them by not making it available (easily). I don’t even really mind a slight premium, but I can’t find it on CD for less than $40, and not at all digitally.

It’s a real shame, because increased sales can equate to more Electric Boys releases. This trend follows them on their own website, though, where there’s no easy option (if any?) to buy merchandise in USD. I realize there’s a world outside of the US, but the fact is they got a lot of their success in the US, so therefore there should be fans (like me) wanting to give EB’s some money!

Fortunately, we live in an age where there are other options. My last choice is to pirate it, but in this case I don’t see much choice. I’m not risking $40 on some unknown seller from Taiwan. It took all of about two minutes to find a *.rar file of the whole album.

        Sorry Conny.

Hi Frank, You can get the non Japanese version of Them Boys Done Swang from my friends at CD Inzane for $13.99. It is a great CD. I listened to it 3-4 more times on the way back from M3. I love it.
