EXPANDED RE-MASTERED DEBUT REISSUE OUT MAY 17TH ON CD AND VINYL
Queens of the Stone Age will be making an appearance on CONAN this Thursday, April 14th at 11/10c on TBS. The band are currently wrapping up a sold-out tour where it played it’s debut s/t album in its entirety. The reissue of Queens of the Stone Age will be available on CD (REK001CD), double vinyl LP (REK001LP) and via digital download (REK001D) on May 17th. Pre-orders for the vinyl or CD formats will receive an instantly available digital download of the full record.
The genesis of Queens Of The Stone Age-the band and this first album-goes back to the 1995 dissolution of the criminally overlooked Kyuss, specifically founding guitarist Homme’s migration from the California Desert to the Pacific Northwest to work on a new project concurrent with spending time on the road as second guitarist in Screaming Trees. Homme discarded the sludgy low-end expanses of his former band for much tighter song structure (for the most part) and honest-to-goodness capital ‘H’ hooks and what was originally christened Gamma Ray was quickly changed to Queens Of The Stone Age shortly after its 1996 birth.
DEBUT ALBUM “ONE” OUT IN JUNE 2011
FULLFORCE was formed in 2009 and now consists of members Mike Andersson (Cloudscape, Vocals), Stefan Elmgren (ex Hammerfall, Guitars), Anders Johansson (Hammerfall, ex Yngwie J. Malmsteen, Drums), CJ Grimmark (ex Narnia, Guitars) and Tommy Larsson (ex Heed, Bass). The Swedish five-piece started to write songs in order to complete their debut album and they describe their music to be a genuine blend of traditional, catchy heavy metal to more updated melodic metal with some ethnic touches which will make them a standout to within the genre. The band truly believes in their music and in late 2010 they completed the recording of 12 songs to be included on “One”.
“After being in contact with a few interested labels during these last months, we are happy to announce the decision of becoming a part of the SPV family! SPV is a label with a great Metal tradition and it’s an honor for FULLFORCE to join forces with them for the release of our debut album “One”. In SPV we see a good vision and a great future for FULLFORCE…this is the best thing that could have happened to us!”
(Mike Andersson, FULLFORCE vocalist)
“There are always reservations regarding bands with ex-members of well known bands but with FULLFORCE it´s different. I think that a lot of people will be very surprised when they hear the songs. It´s great to have the band on our roster and I´m sure that there is a bright future for the band.”

Mean Streak ‘s latest disc, Declaration Of War, is just what the title proclaims. Filled with war themed songs, boot-stomping anthems, and powerful music that explodes in your eardrums like a well tossed hand grenade, Declaration Of War is a praiseworthy, intense, hard rock album. Declaration Of War is this Swedish metal band’s second release, and although I am not familiar with their first album, I may just have to seek it out after hearing this disc.
If Jim Gillette from Nitro joined Manowar to form a band, Mean Streak is exactly what the band would sound like. Talented guitarist, David Andersson gives Nitro’s Michael Angelo Batio a run for his money as one of the best guitarists in thrash/speed/doom metal. At one time it was claimed that Batio was the fastest guitarist in all the metal world. After hearing Declaration Of War, I can guarantee that Andersson could outplay him.
David Andersson has a talent not found in many guitarists. He plays fast. He plays heavy. He plays clean. That last comment is the most important. Most guitarists that play fast or heavy tend to distort their sound or blend it in with special effects, whammy bars, etc. Not Andersson. When he shreds the guitar on songs like “As You Sow You Shall Reap” and “In For The Kill,” you can hear every note as clearly as the ringing of a bell. Andersson is an amazing talent and truly helps Mean Streak stand out from the rest of the pack.
However, great guitar work isn’t the only wonderful thing about Mean Streak. They also come equipped with one of the greatest lead vocalists since the dawn of Bruce Dickinson. Lead singer Andy La Guerin is a talent that needs to be heard. A more prominent howler than Dickinson in his prime, La Guerin can give a rock scream/metal yodel like none that has ever been heard. His voice is intense and mighty, and compliments Andersson’s guitar work beautifully. Together, the two are a supreme talent.
Mean Streak is a complete band. They have a phenomenal vocalist in La Guerin and one of the greatest guitar players on the metal scene in Andersson. For most bands, that would be enough, but Mean Streak pushes it to the next level by composing complex, progressive songs in the vein of newer Iron Maiden. Each song on Declaration Of War builds up over time and develops into something more than what it starts as. The intricate details in each track will demand multiple listens for many months to come. Layered guitar work by both Andersson and Patrick Gardberg accompanied by Peter Andersson’s galloping bass lines cement the music firmly in greatness. If you’re a fan of progressive, thrash metal, you are going to love Declaration Of War.
Another notable band to hail from Sweden, Mean Streak is definitely worth checking out. Declaration Of War is an amazing album and one that should catapult Mean Streak into the next stratosphere of metal greatness. If you want to treat yourself to some great music that is simply irresistible, pick up a copy of Declaration Of War.

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR NIKKI SIXX RELEASES NEW BOOK, THIS IS GONNA HURT TODAY
Finnish metal/hard rock outfit Amoral has completed work on it’s 5th studio album. “Beneath” was recorded at Sound Supreme studios in Hämeenlinna, Finland, and was produced by Janne Saksa and guitarist Ben Varon. The album will be released in late 2011, with the first single out by the beginning of summer.
“I’d describe the album as ‘three steps forward, one step back'”, says Varon. “There are several nods to our past in form of long songs, intricate riffs and growling vocals. But the main focus is still on the strong melodies, big choruses and catchy riffs, just as was on our last album ‘Show Your Colors'”.
“Beneath” marks the first time new guitarist Masi Hukari has recorded with the band. Hukari – who joined the group late in the songwriting process – immediately wrote two songs together with Varon, both which ended on the album. Another first is that, from now on, Amoral has two lead guitar players.
“Masi is such a talent, it would have been a crime to make him ‘just’ the rhythm guitarist. It’s been killer to be able to do lead trade-off for the first time in the band’s history, for example. Masi is responsible for many of the guitar highlights of the album”, Ben declares.
The band documented the recording of “Beneath” in their studio blog, which was updated daily during the session. You can read the blog here:http://amoralinthestudio.blogspot.com/
Amoral will end their months-long break from playing live by doing a one-off show at On The Rocks in Helsinki on June 3rd. The idea is to break in the new guitarist, as well as trying out several brand new songs onstage for the first time. Check out a trailer for the show here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSPAcwyOg..Po

Whitesnake’s brand new album FOREVERMORE released worldwide on Frontiers Records, has made its worldwide debut bowing in the Top 50 of multiple countries’ album charts. In the United States, FOREVERMORE comes in at #48 on the Billboard Top 200 Current Album chart and arrives even higher in numerous European countries. FOREVERMORE charts at #6 in Sweden, #11 in Finland, #15 in the Czech Republic, #16 in Germany, #17 in Switzerland, #27 in Austria, #41 in Italy and #42 in both The Netherlands and Poland, respectively.
FOREVERMORE finds founder/singer/songwriter David Coverdale and company returning to their no-holds-barred, bluesiest, sexiest rock n’ roll roots and is the band’s 11th studio album. FOREVERMORE was recorded, produced and mixed by Los Bros Brutalos (Coverdale, Doug Aldrich and Michael McIntyre). Whitesnake is David Coverdale (vocals), Doug Aldrich (guitars), Reb Beach (guitars), Michael Devin (bass) and Briian Tichy (drums).
Formed in 1977, and steered by the legendary David Coverdale, Whitesnake carry a rightful reputation as one of the world’s leading rock n’ roll bands. Coverdale’s blues roots, combined with a feral sense of rockin’ and rollin’, have consistently shaped the ‘Snake’s sound along with Coverdale’s love and appreciation of impeccable musicianship. Whitesnake’s ascent to the very top of the rock n’ roll heap was confirmed with 1987’s self-titled mega-platinum album, which saw two massive Top 10 hits, two #1 singles with “Here I Go Again” and “Is This Love” and a virtual 24-hour domination of MTV around the world.

A video of Jane’s Addiction recording their new track “End To The Lies” has been made available on the band’s official YouTube channel, which can be viewed here http://www.youtube.com/janesaddiction. “End To The Lies” comes from the band’s forthcoming new album ‘The Great Escape Artist‘, which is set for an August release through Capitol.
On Thursday (April 7th), the band made an MP3 of “End To The Lies” available for free on their web site http://www.janesaddiction.com. “To me, it sounds like an updated Jane’s Addiction as it has the hypnotic repetitive nature of some of our early work combined with a modern approach,” guitarist Dave Navarro told Spinner. “This track was released as a taste of the record for our die-hard fans. I can’t wait for everyone to hear our first single next month and then the album later in the summer.”
CURRENTLY ON TOUR WITH VOLBEAT AND THE DAMNED THINGS
Hourcast have just released a video for their current single “Attraction,” co-starring adult film star Jessie Jane. The video, which was directed by Ryan Smith and drummer Jerry Clews, was shot at Big Sky Movie Ranch in Simi Valley, CA. Hourcast singer Patrick Mcbride dishes on what it was like to work with Jessie Jane, “It was truly the epitome of ‘suffering for your art’. Here’s this gorgeous girl coming to the set, so friendly and warm. She shows up for the first scene in costume and transformed herself into a maniacal, gun wielding, madwoman.” In the video Jessie Jane wields the AUG assault rifle, made famous in the video game Call of Duty.
The band are currently out on the road with Volbeat and The Damned Things. For a full list of dates visit Hourcast’s Facebook.
“Attraction” is featured on the band’s sophomore album, Dystopia, which was released in 2010.
Swedish sleaze and punk influenced metal band SISTER have just released the artwork and track listing for the Metal Blade Records debut HATED, due out June 3/6 in Europe. The first single also happens to be the title track of the album, HATED, which the band recently released a teaser video for that can be seen HERE.
Listen to the song at the following location: http://www.metalblade.com/sister
The band talks about the first single HATED:
“The first single from the album is the title track HATED. It’s a song about when people close to you fuck things over for you, making your life miserable till the degree that you can’t take it anymore. You get so pissed and frustrated that you start to hate them and want them to hate you too. You want them to despise you and you use that anger as fuel to pull yourself back up. Feed you till you’re up on the top again. We’ve also had a lot of people that have worked against us over the years and this track and album title is kind of a statement as well. A big fuck you to those people. So it’s both the title track and the anthem of the album.
It was a song that took form real quickly and pretty much put together in one evening in the rehearsal. It just came natural and it felt right to have a heavier, low tempo song after some time of writing a lot of fast maybe more punk feeling songs. Though, this one still has the punk edge like all our work of course.”
Track listing HATED:
1. Radioactive Misery
2. Body Blow
3. Bullshit & Backstabbing
5. Motherfuckers (like you)
6. Werewolves on Blackstreet
7. Spit on Me
8. The Unlucky Minority
9. Would You Love A Creature
10. Too Bad For You
11. Drag Me to the Grave
Cover art for HATED was created by Kim Oktavia who is an artist/tattoo artist in Stockholm Sweden and photographer Axel Engström, also from Stockholm Sweden. The band comments; “The cover art for the album are made of us and our close friends Kim Oktavia and Axel Engström. Kim is the bands tattoo artist pretty much as the whole band gets their tattoos at her studio. She worked with the pictures that we took with Axel and really made them come to life. We did the layout with Axel afterwards and we are stoked over the result. The final cover and booklet blows our minds every time we see it. We have taken photos with Axel a lot times and it felt right to work with people that really understand what we want and are on the same page all the time. So it couldn’t have been better and when everybody sees the result they will see what we mean.”
About the band:
SISTER, who hails from Stockholm/Jönkoping Sweden, formed in early 2006 working hard to build up a name as a strong act both live and in the studio. SISTER consists of 4 members- Jamie on vocals, Lestat on guitars and backing vocals, Rikki on bass and backing vocals, and Cari on drums and backing vocals- who combine the sounds of Punk, Glam, Rock, and Metal with an end result sounding something like the bastard child of GG Allin and Guns N’ Roses.
SISTER’s Metal Blade debut HATED will be annihilating the world come June 3rd/6th, 2011. Stay tuned to MetalBlade.com and the band’s websites for further details over the coming months.
BELIEVER release new single ‘Ego Machine’ off new album ‘Transhuman’!
BELIEVER have just released the final single, Ego Machine, off their upcoming concept album Transhuman (out now!).
Check out Ego Machine, the track that is inspired by the work of Dr. Thomas Metzinger and his book “The Ego Tunnel,” HERE. Fans can pre-order their copy of Transhuman at the same location. Also available on the band’s pre-order page is a video that shows how the cover art came to be.
Transhuman track listing:
1 Lie Awake
4 End of Infinity
6 Clean Room
9 Ego Machine
10 Being No One
Once again, BELIEVER tapped into the artistic genius of Michael Rosner and Eye Level Studio to produce the Transhuman artwork and layout. “We wanted to work with Roz again on Transhuman as our visions of combining art and music truly parallel. He just gets it and his artwork is outside the typical box in a way that we strive for musically. It is an amazing collaboration that we have with Roz that continues to evolve. We are excited for everyone to see the final layout!”
The band continues; “Sonically we’re extremely happy with this album and can’t wait for other people to hear it. We feel like this is a really strong and unique album in the BELIEVER catalogue and it’s something we’re definitely proud of.
So what will you hear? We focused more on the overall musicality which included more instrumental layers than we used before. The vocals were also more of a focus as we have had much feedback throughout the years, specifically to get out of the one dimensional realm. Kurt wanted the vocals to be more complimentary to the overall tune feel, so he used many facets of his vocal abilities. As with all Believer albums, this one is definitely unique.”
Transhumanism: The study of the ramifications, promises, and potential dangers of technologies that will enable us to overcome fundamental human limitations, and the related study of the ethical matters involved in developing and using such technologies.
Immensely heavy, deceptively melodic, ambitiously daring, and brilliantly played. BELIEVER’s brand new concept album TRANSHUMAN available everywhere now!
Kurt Bachman – guitars/vocals
Joey Daub – drums
Jeff King – keyboards/guitars
Kevin Leaman – guitars
RALF SCHEEPERS – It’s not inappropriate to call Ralf Scheepers a Heavy Metal tenor. His larger than life voice can rival the very best in the history of Heavy Metal. Just let your ears delve into the back catalog of albums that Ralf Scheepers has sung lead vocals on and you shall be convinced. As a founding member of Gamma Ray, alongside Kai Hansen, Ralf Scheepers was the lead vocalist on three of their studio albums, from 1989 to 1993. In 1997, Ralf and Mat Sinner founded Primal Fear, a formidable Heavy Metal band that has etched out a powerful legacy to this very day.
There are many famous lead vocalists in Heavy Metal and Ralf Scheepers is one. However, when it comes to Ralf Scheepers, there is much more to being just a “famous” front man for a world known Heavy Metal band like Primal Fear. I never received a micro-hint of ego from Ralf as we spoke, nor did it ever appear that Ralf has, will or ever rest on his laurels. Ralf values friendship, (in a tiered format which he explains) and likes to create music on his acoustic guitar in front of his fireplace.
No, your not going to read on about a spoiled and partied out Heavy Metal star here, instead you will find out that Ralf Scheepers puts more thought into compassion and staying in touch with family, than he does about any Sunset Strip shenanigans. His new solo album “Scheepers” accentuates his fondness for ballads, guest musicians and of course, Heavy Metal. After my interview with Ralf Scheepers ended, I had to quickly remind myself that he is the intimidating vocal and physical presence of Primal Fear, for he truly carried himself in such a relaxed, polite and accessible manner. Here is what Ralf Scheepers had to say:
HRH: How relieved and proud are you, now that your solo album is being heard and praised?
RALF: I’m very pleased about it. The reviews have been good so far. I hope the people who bought the album are having a good time with it.
HRH: Which song on “Scheepers” moves you the most on a personal level?
RALF: Definitely “The Pain Of The Accused”, it’s based on a personal situation that I went through years ago. Once I got the melody line in my head for this song, I couldn’t get it out of my head.
HRH: How was the idea of doing a song (“Remission Of Sin”) with Tim “Ripper” Owens born?
RALF: I actually got to know Tim five or six years ago. We have gotten to know each other personally and Tim is a very nice guy. We’ve kept in close contact over the years. We email and see each other often, getting together to have some beers. I sent Tim this song while he was between two tours and he recorded it! I’m very happy about the way it came out. Tim and I are just good buddies!
HRH: Am I out of line by calling “Saints Of The Rock” a Heavy Metal Anthem Classic?
RALF: Well, you know, this song was recorded back in 1996 originally. It’s been re-recorded with Matt (Sinner) on bass. I did the whole choir on this re-recording.
HRH: A “Cyberfreak” never existed back in the eighties. Were the eighties a better time for Heavy Metal and the world as well?
RALF: I don’t think so, there’s always many changes happening. You have to deal with progress, you know? I sent my first email fifteen years ago! It’s a better world now. I get to stay in touch with cousins in America through Facebook, where years ago I couldn’t as easily stay in touch from a long distance. Facebook is a great network to keep in touch with friends and family. I’m not trying to sound like a Facebook commercial here by promoting them either. (laughs) You can advertise your music better through the internet now, then again, you can also lose money from people illegally downloading your music too.
HRH: Many of your friends appear as guests on “Scheepers”. Where do you rank friendship on the scale of life?
RALF: That’s a good question. It all starts with Facebook right? (laughs) It’s the same in personal life as well. I have friends that are not as much close. Then I have friends in business and friends I exchange problems with on a more personal level.
HRH: What other musicians would you have liked to guest on your current solo album and perhaps on any future Primal Fear or solo album?
RALF: For a guitarist, Neal Schon is amazing. He had no time and was just too busy with touring and recording to appear on my record. I’m pretty sure there are many names I can’t think of right now. There are many out there, it’s not easy to name them all. Rob Halford still is an old time favorite of mine! Tim “Ripper” was great to sing together with!
HRH: What are the differences that you see, when it comes to Heavy Metal being marketed in Europe compared to the U.S.?
RALF: That’s a tough question. In the U.S. the market is huge, it’s the biggest. I’ve learned later in life (laughs) with Primal Fear, that you must go to the U.S. and play for the fans. You play for the kids in the U.S. to go out and buy your album. It’s the opposite in Europe, the kids buy your album first and then go to your concert.
HRH: Would you ever consider a singing role on Broadway, if the situation was right?
RALF: Never say never! I love the musicals in Germany. At the Musical Theater in Germany, they are really studying singing and stuff. I’m not quite aware of being able to do it though.
HRH: Why’s that Ralf?
RALF: You have to be very professional and deliver the goods more so than Heavy Metal. It is night in and night out on Broadway. It’s a job too, it can become boring in a way. Then again, Heavy Metal is an everyday job too! I’m sure there has to be different feelings you must have to perform on a Broadway stage as well.
HRH: Will there be a solo tour in the U.S.?
RALF: It would be great! Only, with the new Primal Fear album being recorded and released, combined with Primal Fear doing festivals and tours, it may not be. I also have to see what the market reaction is to my solo album. If the promoters want me to go out solo, I am the last one to say no!
HRH: Do you feel our world needs to exercise some more compassion right about now?
RALF: Yes. I mean, I had the idea for this song (“Compassion”) when the earthquake happened in Haiti. Now its Japan too. I had the chords and the melody in my head as I watched the news on that Haiti earthquake. We need to show people we have feelings and not only money, that people are there for them, to give them (earthquake survivors) feelings that someone is there for them. I remember writing this song on my acoustic. I’m the acoustic guitar guy in front of the fireplace.
HRH: What? Ralf Scheepers sits in front of the fireplace, with his acoustic guitar and writes songs? (laughs)
RALF: (laughs) I also like to shred with my acoustic too! (laughs) That doesn’t mean I’m a big softy or anything like that! I’m still the Heavy Metal guy!
HRH: (laughs) Don’t worry Ralf, you’ll always be the big Heavy Metal guy in my mind!
HRH: How is the new Primal Fear album coming along?
RALF: We have now, about ten songs. The guys are very busy. They’ve sent me playbacks and I’ve put my vocals and melodies on them. Then, we team up and rehearse the songs. It is very important to team up with the band and not rely solely on the internet when writing songs.
HRH: Good luck with the recording of the new Primal Fear album Ralf!
RALF: Thank you very much, it’s going to sound great! I’m already banging my head to these Primal Fear demos!

“END TO THE LIES”
FIRST MUSIC HEARD FROM THE GROUNDBREAKING BAND’S FIRST STUDIO ALBUM IN EIGHT YEARS
ALBUM SET TO BE RELEASED AUGUST 2011 ON CAPITOL RECORDS
JANE’S ADDICTION yesterday (April 7) gave their fans the chance to be the first to hear music from THE GREAT ESCAPE ARTIST, their first new studio album in eight years.
The band’s singer Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins are giving away a free download of the final mix of ”End To The Lies” exclusively at their website: www.janesaddiction.com. THE GREAT ESCAPE ARTIST will be released this August on Capitol Records (exact date TBA).
An early, unfinished version of “End To The Lies” leaked last Wednesday (March 30) in Chile when Farrell made an appearance on the “La Ley D Rock” program on the Chilean radio station Radio Futuro, after which the song became an instant viral sensation.
JANE’S ADDICTION were in Chile as one of the headliners of the inaugural Lollapalooza Chile, which took place last weekend (April 2-3) in Santiago’s O’Higgins Park. See band photos below and this New York Times story:
For THE GREAT ESCAPE ARTIST, JANE’S ADDICTION are working with producer Rich Costey (Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Interpol), with TV on the Radio‘s Dave Sitek on the team. Sitek, best known for his production work on TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Foals, is writing, programming, and playing bass on the album. The band, with Chris Cheney on bass, will be touring throughout 2011 (see preliminary dates below).
Forming in 1985 in L.A., JANE’S ADDICTION as been firmly embedded in the collective pop culture consciousness for 25 years now. Perry Farrell stands out as one of music’s most forward-thinking and enigmatic frontmen. Dave Navarro remains a veritable guitar god. Drummer Stephen Perkins’ tribal stomp has also influenced a generation of percussionists. The hugely influential Los Angeles-based band has sold in excess of seven million records in the U.S. alone. When lead singer Perry Farrell created the traveling Lollapalooza festival, it galvanized the alternative rock movement and brought it to a whole new level.
JANE’S ADDICTION have written the rule book for alternative music and culture through a combination of genre-defying classic songs and a cinematic live experience. Great bands break rules, but legends write their own.

“It’s going to be a great morning for a great cause. I have lived with someone who has Cystic Fibrosis and have seen first hand how horrible the effects can be. Every dollar raised goes to improve the quality of live of those suffering” Said Green
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 70,000 children and adults worldwide. In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond. The possibility of a cure is only limited by dollars. Money buys science and science buys life, hopefully one day CF will stand for “Cure Found.”
Sin City Sinners past charitable efforts have raised over $10,000 to date for various causes. In March, Manager Jason Green shaved his head to raise $3,000 to fight Child hood Cancer.

If you are a fan of Thin Lizzy, then Brian Robertson is no stranger to you. This former Thin Lizzy/Motorhead guitarist has finally released his first solo album after years of being absent from the music scene. On his new album, Diamonds and Dirt, Robbo has enlisted an all-star crew to help form one hell of a good debut record. The line up for this CD is Ian Haugland (Europe) on drums, Nalley Påhlsson (Treat) on bass, Leif Sundin (MSG) on vocals and Liny Wood on background vocals. Many of the songs on Diamonds and Dirt were written by Brian Robertson, the late great Phillip Lynott, plus you get three cool Frankie Miller cover tunes. What this means is, on Diamonds and Dirt you get 100 % quality music all the way through.
Brian Robertson’s guitar work shines all the way through this CD. Hearing him play again after all of these years, makes me wonder where he has been hiding. Robbo’s style of playing reminds me of a cross between Stevie Ray Vaughn and Peter Frampton. He is one hell of a talented player. Diamonds and Dirt ought to put him back in the spotlight.
The music on this CD is a blend of classic rock, blues and AOR. It isn’t a perfect outing, but it is one entertaining listen. The songs on this CD came from Robertson’s unreleased compositions, so I am sure that a lot of the material is fairly old, however that doesn’t make it bad. Some of the songs remind me of a blend of Bad Company, Foreigner and of course, Thin Lizzy. If Diamonds and Dirt was released sooner, who knows what kind of impact it could have had on the music scene.
I am glad Robbo finally let this music see the light of day. Hopefully, he won’t wait a long time before Robbo blesses us with another set of tunes. Until he does, I will be enjoying Diamonds and Dirt. Check it out!

Do you live near Southhaven, Mississippi? Tennessee rockers Tora Tora and Every Mother’s Nightmare will be opening for Whitesnake at the Snowden Grove Amphitheater in Southhaven, Mississippi on Tuesday, May 24th! This will be one awesome night of rock!!!
Atlantic recording group Shinedown has announced details of their forthcoming live, multi-disc CD/DVD collection. “SOMEWHERE IN THE STRATOSPHERE” will arrive in stores and at all DSPs on May 3rd.
The collection — which received its title from a member of the “Shinedown Nation” fan community — will include material filmed and recorded on Shinedown’s two epic 2010 headline tours: the inaugural “Carnival Of Madness” tour, in which they topped a stellar lineup of today’s biggest rock acts including Chevelle, Puddle Of Mudd, Sevendust, and 10 Years; and the highly praised “Anything & Everything” acoustic tour, which featured stripped-down versions of both chart-topping hits and fan favorites alongside intimate conversations with the audience about the stories behind the songs. The Jacksonville, Florida-based band has long been hailed as one of rock’s most dynamic live acts. “SOMEWHERE IN THE STRATOSPHERE” showcases both the energy of their electric show and intimacy of their acoustic sets with a CD/DVD dedicated to each tour (see track listing below).
Frontman Brent Smith: “The Carnival of Madness and Anything & Everything tours were some of the most intense and rewarding shows we’ve ever played. ‘SOMEWHERE IN THE STRATOSPHERE’ allows us to relive those special times with all the fans that came out, and share the experience with those that we didn’t get to see on the road.”
The pre-order for “SOMEWHERE IN THE STRATOSPHERE” will begin April 12th on www.shinedown.com. Every order includes immediate MP3 downloads of “Diamond Eyes (Live from Washington State)” and “45 (Live Acoustic from Kansas City)”. A Premium Pack will also be available, allowing fans to choose from the Standard or Deluxe album, plus a poster and t-shirt. The deluxe version of the multi-disc CD/DVD set includes an expanded 16-page booklet with the four discs each packaged in die-cut baby jackets and housed in a special box.
In other news, Shinedown recently made history when “Diamond Eyes (Boom-Lay Boom-Lay Boom),” the latest single from their RIAA platinum certified third album, “THE SOUND OF MADNESS,” hit #1 at Active Rock radio outlets nationwide. In a truly remarkable feat, ALL six singles from the acclaimed album have now reached the top of the rock airplay rankings. What’s more, “THE SOUND OF MADNESS” is one of only two platinum-selling albums by a rock band on the current Billboard 200 chart.
Produced by multiple Grammy Award-winner Rob Cavallo (Kid Rock, Green Day), “THE SOUND OF MADNESS” debuted at #8 on the Billboard 200 upon its 2008 release before spending 120 consecutive weeks on the chart. Since then, each of the album’s five singles prior to “Diamond Eyes” — “Devour,” “The Sound of Madness,” “The Crow and The Butterfly,” the gold certified “If You Only Knew,” and the double-platinum certified crossover smash, “Second Chance” — have peaked at #1, marking a genuinely stunning streak of rock radio hits.
Shinedown’s unprecedented domination of multi-format rock radio initially began with their RIAA platinum certified 2003 debut “LEAVE A WHISPER” and its gold certified 2005 follow-up, “US AND THEM.” Together, both albums yielded a staggering seven consecutive top 5 radio hits, including “Fly From the Inside,” “45,” “Simple Man,” “Burning Bright,” “Heroes,” “I Dare You,” and of course, the #1 classic, “Save Me.” Shinedown is currently hard at work writing their hugely anticipated fourth studio album.
Shinedown is: Brent Smith (vocals), Barry Kerch (drums), Zach Myers (guitars), and Eric Bass (bass).

The band was formed in 2007 when guitarist Michal “Stempel” Stemplowski (along with drummer Luksus and bassist Kuba) recruited vocalist Wojciech “Susel” Kaluza for his new rock project. Soon, out of a few loose ideas came a material that felt like the stench of the muddy waters of Louisiana mixed with a warm breeze of the wind traveling across the Nevada deserts. The American style of stoner rock and southern metal dominated their music completely, eventually giving life to Jack Daniels Overdrive. They self-released their debut EP called “Pure Concentrated Evil”, which received a bunch of great reviews in various webzines and magazines. They played their very first show supporting Jesus Chrysler Suicide and the following two opening for Beatallica. In the meantime the band experienced two line-up changes, welcoming in their ranks drummer Lukasz “Jooras” Jurewicz and bassist Lukasz “Peo” Pomietło. In March 2009 they were given the honor of performing in Krakow with the living legend of stoner metal – Phil Anselmo’s Down. In the following months came the inevitable – they changed their name to J. D. Overdrive to avoid legal problems with the Tennessee tycoon. And just when they thought that nothing can surprise them – on March 9th, 2011 they opened for Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society in Warsaw.

Michał “Stempel” Stemplowski – guitar
Łukasz “Joorek” Jurewicz – drums
Łukasz “Peo” Pomietło – bass
As recently reported here at Hard Rock Hideout, Poison has decided that the best way to celebrate their upcoming 25th Anniversary is by releasing a greatest hits album. This would be Poison’s sixth greatest hits package. They’ve only released six studio albums (seven if you count Poison’D, but that’s a covers album, so I don’t). Aerosmith has just announced they will be releasing another greatest hits album, this one containing only their best ballads. That’s five greatest hits albums from Aerosmith since their last studio release of new material.
Kiss was always notorious for releasing endless amounts of repackaged music to sell to their fans. Even I, one of the biggest Kiss fans in the world, a fan who had to own every official release from the band whether it was repackaged music or not, got tired of all the best of bull. I stopped buying/caring when Kiss released Ikons, the 4 disc, best of compilation set that had 1 disc of each member’s songs. What a joke!
Enough is enough already. How many different versions of greatest hits can be released by a band? And unfortunately, 70s/80s metal acts are the worst of the worst. An excellent example of this is Aerosmith, Kiss, and Poison. Let’s look at some other culprits though. Cinderella has more greatest hits albums than they do studio records! How is that possible? They too have released a Best Ballads album. They too are annoying with all the greatest hits releases. How about some new music? Winger released a new album. Def Leppard has been making new music for years. Why not Cinderella? Don’t they think the fans would buy a new Cinderella album much quicker than they would go out to purchase yet another package of songs that they already own?
Iron Maiden has just announced another compilation as well. This one contains only their newer songs. It’s called From Fear To Eternity and has their best songs from 1990 – 2010. While another Maiden Best Of is disturbing, at least this band gets it right. They admit that long time fans are tired of repackaged material. They admit that the album is aimed at newer fans that might not own all of their albums and just want a collection of their best material. They acknowledge that there are fans out there who might get upset about paying for a packaged album just to get the artwork. They also do something about it. Iron Maiden is offering the artwork and CD booklet for free when the album is released on May 23rd. They will allow anyone to go online and download a PDF of the booklet. That covers the best of both worlds. Plus, Maiden still releases new music, so their latest greatest hits album isn’t a re-shuffling of a former disc with one additional song thrown on.
I know the old argument, if you don’t like the repackaged music, then you don’t have to buy it. However, I think that statement is garbage. As a fan of the band, I want new music. Just give us some new music already! Warrant is. The Cars are. Whitesnake has. Even Kiss is finally hearing the cry of their fans and working on another studio album. Don’t be afraid that the record may not sell or put a chink in your legacy. If done right, the fans will purchase your latest album.
I’ve always viewed greatest hits albums as filler until the next studio album is available. However, in the case of some bands, it’s not filler, it’s all they can release. Certain bands aren’t going into the studios to make new music, so they churn out another repackaged album to steal more money from the fans. Poison, are you serious? Another greatest hits record instead of new music? I’m sure that’s what all the fans want. I can’t wait to see how well this package doesn’t sell.
Uriah Heep’s new song, “Nail On the Head” is from the band’s new album, “Into the Wild” due out on April the 15th 2011 in Europe and on May the 3rd 2011 in North America.
Check out the video clip below!
Edguy post the following update tonight:
After a successful world tour with more than 100 concerts all over the globe in support of their latest release “Tinnitus Sanctus” in 2008, Edguy have entered the studio to record a new album. Still under the influence of their arena tour as special guests of “the Scorpions” and the latest “Avantasia” world tour (featuring Tobias Sammet and Felix Bohnke), Edguy feel it’s about time to squeeze their energy on tape in a recording studio again. This time the band has chosen the famous Peppermint-Park in Hannover (Scorpions, Phil Collins), according to the band ” a recording temple with a tremendously great sounding room”. Tobias comments: “We have chosen the Peppermint Park to record the basics there. I had done a few little bits and pieces for Avantasia there, but it’s so great to record drums and stuff like Hammond B3 with a big bad fat mean Leslie there. The room is big and the sound is mean! We were always striving for a powerful but natural sound. I guess we had a good sound recently, but I think there is always room to improve. The more I listen to what’s going on in the Heavy Metal world these days, the more I long for drums that sound like drums. I want them to sound powerful without sounding like Atari. Sascha and I came to the conclusion that we have to start from scratch and do things the way they have to be done, not the fashionable way. I don’t want a distorted master-copy, just so it is loud enough on an iPhone or on PC-speakers. If you talk to your most fancy producer he will say something like: “Well, it’s the sign of the times, you have to be able to compete in the loudness war…” What the fuck?! If I want it to be loud I turn up the stereo. I want dynamics, room, a real big sound, not that distorted trendy compression. Why don’t we all move back a little and record great sounding music, not loud sounding music? Do a Google search for “loudness war” and you’ll see what I mean. Whatever, the new songs sound great, we have thirteen of them, and we’ll pick maybe ten and put them on the album. We have anthemic melodies, although it’s not kitsch. When you record anthemic music, you tend to be dangerously close to kitsch, it’s a fine line and I think we balance on that fine line pretty well. To cut a long story a little insignificantly shorter: I just think it is great, and that’s what counts. Real music, you know? We’ll keep you informed, if you want it or not! ;-) – Tobi

“ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL 2011 is a true mix of molten veterans and smoldering up-and-comers, who are bringing their A games and giving the fans nothing less of an amazing day,” adds tour producer Kevin Lyman.
In 2008, the ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL bulldozed onto the scene and quickly made itself known as the preeminent summer destination for the hard rock and metal community. ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL boasts the most powerful artist line-ups in heavy music. Artists who have performed in ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL’s past include hard music legends SLAYER, SLIPKNOT, MARILYN MANSON, KORN, ROB ZOMBIE, LAMB OF GOD, HATEBREED, CANNIBAL CORPSE, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, MASTODON, FIVE FINGER DEATHPUNCH, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE and many more. All have pummeled the stage, while delivering the intensity and heaviness that fans have grown to expect year after year.
